Boldy James Links With Detroit Producer Whothehelliscarlo For “Hidden In Plain Sight” Tape

There aren’t many like Boldy James right now. The cutthroat Detroit rapper has been just that toward his competition all year long, dropping single after project after feature. He’s for sure one of the most consistent and hard-working MCs in the game and the depth of his catalog alone proves that. It’s become that much more expansive in 2024, as he put out now five projects and a whole bunch of loosies and collabs. This week, we are going to focus on the bodies of work, because he’s here with a new one, Hidden in Plain Sight.

Like 80 percent of his endeavors over this 12-month span, Bo is collaborating with a producer from start to finish. So far, he’s teamed up with Canadian beat maker Nicholas Craven for Penalty of Leadership. Boldy James then tapped in with Conductor Williams in June for Across The Tracks. Following that would be the November link-up with Harry Fraud called The Bricktionary. All of those efforts we just listed are over 10 tracks, but Hidden in Plain Sight is under that mark. It stands at seven cuts and is a breezy 18 minutes. Also differentiating this tape from the others is the producer. Meet whothehelliscarlo, also a Detroit native who doesn’t have as much standing in hip-hop as the others Boldy’s worked with. But he’s been developing some chemistry with a lot of the acts from Motown like 42 Dugg, Zelooperz, and more. Now, he’s getting a chance with one of the stalwarts from his hometown. See what they cooked up below.

Boldy James Proves That His Tank His Never Empty On Harry Fraud Joint Tape “The Bricktionary”

Boldy James is building a foundation with a new collaborator brick by brick on his new album, The Bricktionary. This is his first joint venture with longtime and slept on icon, Harry Fraud. The Detroit and Brooklyn natives aren’t complete and total strangers to one another. They have brought their skillsets together on some spot records here and there. You could hear on songs like “Live from the Roxy,” that these two had some potential to go the distance. For the most part, they do so on The Bricktionary, which is Boldy’s fourth and Fraud’s third projects of 2024, respectively.

Leading up to its release, these prolific artists gave fans a couple of previews of what they could expect going forward. The grand and orchestral/trap-like “Cecil Fielder” with Tee Grizzley kicked things off back at the start of August. Then, last Friday, November 15, the duo would return with perhaps the most accessible of the bunch, “Shrink Wrap” featuring Babyface Ray. Across the tight, 12-song tracklist. Fraud brings some elements of trap, hardcore, and the grittiness of Detroit and the East Coast scene at large. The rapping performances from Boldy are extremely substantial as usual. However, this a snoozer or two, with “Harvey Grant” being maybe the biggest offender. But overall, The Bricktionary is a very cohesive sounding record with some enjoyable instrumentals and slick street talk from Boldy. Check it out with the links below.

Boldy James, Babyface Ray, & Harry Fraud Get The “Shrink Wrap”

“Shrink Wrap” brings together an unexpected Detroit duo: Boldy James and Babyface Ray, with Harry Fraud paving the way. The track flows effortlessly over Fraud’s signature smooth production, showcasing the exceptional chemistry among all three artists. Although they are from different sides of the city, both James and Ray are comfortable exchanging games. Their unity is captivating, and the two blend each other’s styles throughout the song, which is notably enjoyable.

Fans will enjoy Boldy James and Babyface Ray’s similar stories with polar opposite messages. The track’s glossy production offers rap stars a blank canvas, further enhancing their creativity. Both artists display some word-play tricks we’ve never heard before. After the creative year, Boldy James has had, it’s amazing how limitless his lyrical prowess has become. Ray’s latest collaboration comes after the release of his impressive album, The Kid That Did, in September.

The Bricktionary, arriving November 22, includes the lead single “Cecil Fielder.” With their previous collaborations receiving rave reviews, Boldy James continues to push boundaries while staying true to his idolized storytelling. For James as for many others, Harry Fraud’s unique production has created diversity, making him one of hip-hop’s most sought-after producers. This is James’s fourth album of 2024, following the critically acclaimed Across the Tracks and Plenty of Leadership.

Richard Milli Enlists Boldy James And Willie The Kid For Slick “Still Mergin”

Richard Milli has already proven himself a capable producer with the single “Daily Routine.” His latest release, however, is a cut above. “Still Mergin’” sees the producer link up with Boldy James and Willie the Kid for a stellar display of bars and effortless flows. The sample loop is simple and repetitive, but it locks the viewer into a hypnotic groove. From there, Boldy James and Willie the Kid flex their lyrical ability and prove that they can flow over pretty much any instrumental they come across.

Boldy James proves to be a natural fit for Richard Milli’s production. His sleepy, unaffected voice helps to anchor the looped vocal at the heart of the instrumental. His bars are clever without being flashy, but it is undoubtedly Willie the Kid who runs away with “Still Mergin.” The rapper is absolutely stellar on this one, between his aggressive, counterpoint delivery to Boldy and his clever turns of phrase that come spilling out of him like stray thoughts. Richard Milli’s production may not be as animated as his second guest is, but the contradictory elements on display here actually play to the song’s benefit. Another stellar cut.

Boldy James Is Fiery & Gritty On Antt Beatz-Produced Single “Dead Flowers”

There might not be anyone pumping out more music than Boldy James right now. The Detroit native just simply has an unlimited supply of collaborations, singles, and projects at the ready. The former especially because it seems like every week for the past month or so, we have talked about him. So, it’s not a shocker at all that we are covering Boldy James again and the title this time is “Dead Flowers.” If you have been able to keep with his recent stretch of singles, you may remember his team effort with Helluva and Antt Beatz, “Super Mario.” The latter is back alongside the Across The Tracks creator for this trap and hardcore rap cut, and we are hoping a collab tape is coming.

It’s wishful thinking, as nothing has been said about it publicly, but we think it could happen. So, whether or not you decide to run with us on that prediction is up to you. We are going to because it makes this single that much more exciting. But “Dead Flowers” is good on its own too, don’t get it twisted. Boldy once again is spitting fiery and threatening bars over a cavernous production. It’s nothing new per se, but something that we took away from this track is his underrated ability to pen a catchy chorus. “Dead Flowers” has one and it makes the replay value extremely high for us. Check it out and see for yourself with the link below.

Brodie Fresh Teases Upcoming Album With Boldy James Joint “Boldy Fresh”

Brodie Fresh has been rapping for about eight years now, but fairly sporadically. 2022 is sort of the year in which his production began to pick up quite a considerable amount. That would be the point in his career in which he would release his first project, Lost & Found. He would get some features from some more recognizable names such as Kirko Bangz and Conway the Machine. That latter collaboration would lead to Brodie becoming an opener for the Griselda affiliate’s recent Slant Face Killah tour. Moreover, it’s led to them collaborating together not too long ago for “Lo Island”. But Brodie Fresh isn’t stopping there this year, in April, he put out his second project, A Kid From Elmont: Fosters Meadow Side A. But at just seven tracks, it felt like more of a sampler. It turns out we were correct because the New York native is gearing up for a third tape called Dogma.

The business owner (car detailing) and rapper announced this news to his IG just hours ago. “Album Officially Turned in 🥂Heart & Soul in everything I do! I appreciate everyone tapped in. Let’s take this to the Moon 🌙 ‘DOGMA’ The Album 💿”. It will be out exactly one month from today, with potential promotional singles being “Yea”, “Lo Island”, “Hard Knock Life” with Mozzy, and “Toast” with Maxo Kream. The latest though is “Boldy Fresh” which features –you could probably guess– Boldy James. It sounds like a beat that the latter would tackle. It’s got dramatic string sections and a banging and dusty boom bap rhythm. Check out the track with the link below.

Boldy James Rocks With Helluva Beats & Antt Beatz For New Single “Super Mario”

Boldy James is busting out his Nintendo gaming consoles for this week’s single, “Super Mario”. This is his latest release, and it follows up on his excellent collaboration with Tee Grizzley and Harry Fraud, “Cecil Fielder”. In terms of projects, it comes after a tandem of AOTY contenders in Penalty of Leadership and Across The Tracks. Both were handled exclusively by two separate uber-talented beat crafters. Nicholas Craven laid things down on POL, whereas Conductor Williams was all over ATT. Nothing is known about another LP in development, but we think “Super Mario” and “Cecil Fielder” will go down as loosies for Boldy James.

However, in that same breath, there has been a particular theme with both singles. Each one has a more trap-like soundscape to it, so maybe he’s got something cooking. If that doesn’t turn out to be the case, it’s always cool to hear Boldy over some slightly different production. You’re getting your typical topical focus of violence and putting on for the hometown. Boldy also speeds up his usually slow and methodical delivery to keep pace with the bouncy beat from Antt Beatz and Helluva Beats. We wouldn’ t say this is better than “Cecil Fielder” but its certainly got good qualities going for it. Check it out for yourself below.

Boldy James & Tee Grizzley Tag Team A Luxurious Trap Beat From Harry Fraud On “Cecil Fielder”

There is no stopping Boldy James. The Detroit, Michigan MC, one who embodies the hardcore subgenre, is back with yet another single. It comes just a few days after the YouTube exclusive release of “10 Pints”. It’s a reuniting of legends, as him and The Alchemist pick up right up where they left off a few years ago. Now, the East Coast figure is rekindling his relationship with New York producing vet Harry Fraud. Boldy James is also bringing his Detroit brethren Tee Grizzley along for the ride, as they drop “Cecil Fielder”.

Something that Harry and Boldy do not share is an album. The latter has plenty with other producers, so with “Cecil Fielder” being their song, the hope is that this a lead single. As per usual, Fraud lays down another incredible instrumental that equal parts grand and gritty. The elegant string and horn sections intertwined with the trap drums lead to one heck of an extravagant vibe. Additionally, Boldly and Tee display that thy have something to build on outside of their same-city connection. This is hands down one of the former’s best tracks of 2024.

Boldy James & The Alchemist Stay Hot In 2024 With Reunion On “10 Pints”

We can view mainstream hip-hop artists this year as having a major return to form. Metro Boomin and Future put out two huge albums in a one-month span. Eminem dropped his first album in four years with The Death of Slim Shady. Of course, you cannot talk about rap in 2024 without mentioning the big-time beef between Drake and Kendrick Lamar. But a side of the genre that seems to always remain consistent is the underground scene. Last year, they carried the superstars for the most part and over these seven months, artists in this space have been successful once again. One of them who is contributing heavily is Boldy James because he’s dropping stuff like “10 Pints” with great regularity.

Both of his projects, Penalty of Leadership and Across The Tracks, are going to be on a lot of publications lists for best albums at the end of the year. Each one featured incredible production as well thanks to the likes of Nicholas Craven and Conductor Williams. While we love these pairings for the Detroit MC, there is another beat master out there who’s an even better match arguably. That would be The Alchemist and he’s on “10 Pints”. This marks their first work together since their 2021 album Super Tecmo Bo.

There’s something about Boldy over a guitar-laced instrumental that just makes sense. The Alchemist conjures that up for him here, and the laid-back MC makes easy work of it. “This s*** hit harder than tar and ten pints of Tris Pharma / So many choppers, got the strip hotter than the Sahara / Clip full of R-I-Ps for n****s wearin’ body armor“. You can stream “10 Pints” on YouTube.
