Big Sean Gives Rich Homie Quan His Flowers After His Passing

More and more tributes to Rich Homie Quan are pouring in following his tragic and untimely death at age 34. Whether it’s from longtime collaborators, younger admirers, or his loved ones, the hip-hop world is taking this time to mourn and support not just each other, but the people and legacy that he left behind. The latest artist to pay homage to the Atlanta artist’s memory is Big Sean. TMZ Hip Hop caught up with him in Hollywood on Thursday (September 5) at his pop-up event for his new album Better Me Than You. Amid other questions, the Detroit native took time to reflect on this loss.

“RIP Rich Homie Quan, for sure,” Big Sean remarked. “We got a lot of good memories together, you know what I’m saying? We’ve been in the studio, Treehouse Studios, you know, ATL. We had some great sessions, me and Rich Homie. He was one of one. He was one of one, for sure. His style… He was just very special, a very good heart. It’s such a tragedy hearing about his loss today.

Man, I’m sending love,” Big Sean said of Rich Homie Quan. “Life is such a rare thing. We got to realize that every day we wake up, we’re winning, you know what I’m saying? It’s such a short time we here. It’s a blip of time, so don’t look back and wish you would’ve, could’ve, should’ve did anything, man. Go out here and get it. Just know that you got to go through it just to get to it. So everybody that’s going through something, just know that it’s all temporary. That’s the best and worst part of life is that it’s all temporary.” Click the “Via” link down below at the end of the article to see the full video.

Meanwhile, this is what Rich Homie Quan’s father had to say about his son’s loss. “Unbearable pain,” he shared on his Instagram Story. “Lord please please please help me to understand this. To lose my son… my 1st born, my best friend. Lord let this be a dream…. Yall pray for me and my family. I feel like I’m crushed into a million pieces.”
Rest In Peace Rich Homie Quan.

Big Sean Confirms The Alchemist Collab Album

With so much content already releasing these days, we wouldn’t blame Big Sean if some of his future plans don’t end up panning out. After all, we already got a great album in Better Me Than You, an upcoming self-help-style book in 2025, and plenty of promotional content, loosies, freestyles, and press runs to boot. That’s more than enough to hold us over. On that last note, though, the Sean Don recently spoke to XXL for an extensive cover story, during which he revealed a whole lot about his new LP, his personal life, and more. But one of the most interesting parts of this conversation for hip-hop fans was when he confirmed that a future plan that he had teased previously is actually panning out one day.

Moreover, Big Sean answered a question about his music video for “Together Forever,” his latest collaboration with legendary producer The Alchemist. At the end of it, a new black-and-white clip plays of a completely new set of beats and bars. “That’s part of a side quest I’m doing with Alchemist that me and him been locked in on,” the Detroit rapper revealed. “So, excited about that. That’s a project that me and Alchemist are working on together, so that’s why that part is not on the album.”

Big Sean & The Alchemist’s “Together Forever”: Stream & Watch The Music Video

So there you have it, folks: Big Sean and The Alchemist are officially working on a joint project together. This is what the former had suggested in a Complex interview from just a couple of days ago, so it’s nice to get this prompt confirmation. “I have been burnt out lately because I have chosen to take so much on by doing multiple music projects,” he had told the outlet. “So what I mean by that is my album and then also cooking up with Alchemist too.”

Of course, there’s a good chance that this collab album won’t end up seeing the light of day. That’s just the way the game goes sometimes. Maybe it’s a short EP instead of a full-length effort, maybe it comes out on an NFT site like VOIR DIRE did, and maybe this is one of those ideas that stays in the drafts. But if Big Sean and The Alchemist follow up their chemistry on “Palisades, CA” and “Together Forever,” we’re in for a true treat.

Big Sean Says Baby Keem & Kendrick Lamar Biting Accusations Are Misleading

Big Sean’s new album Better Me Than You was a tender and impressive album, but it also held a few controversies and debatable qualities. Chief among them for many hip-hop fans online was the track “Yes,” which many people felt bit off of the vocal style of Baby Keem. Moreover, the Detroit MC was quick to subliminally respond to this online… Or at least, that’s what many fans interpreted when they saw this tweet: “Must not be familiar with my game.” During a new cover story with XXL, the Sean Don spoke directly about these accusations and this discussion. While he has a very understanding perspective, he also knows what the truth is.

“I saw a little bit of the conversation when the ‘Yes’ video dropped,” Big Sean expressed. “About like, ‘Oh, he’s trying to sound like him,’ or, ‘He’s trying to sound like Kendrick’ or, ‘He’s trying to sound like Baby Keem,’ or, ‘He’s trying to sound like…’ who knows? And I was kind of confused personally by it, but then when I did some research, I was like, ‘Oh, I see that.’

Big Sean’s “Yes”: Stream & Watch The Music Video

“But also I’ve been doing that since 2014, you know what I’m saying?” Big Sean posited. “Since even on a Drake clip that he posted, [where I’m rapping], ‘H*e, shut the f**k up,’ It’s really them flows or that ‘Paradise (Extended)’ that I literally listened to when I was making that stuff for… So, I can’t really read into it too much. I saw some of it, but I can’t be all up on the internet because that s**t’ll have you f***ed up.” Elsewhere during this interview, he also confirmed previous hints that a joint project with The Alchemist is coming out in the future.

Meanwhile, Big Sean also clarified whether or not he dissed Lil Yachty on the bonus track “Wire Me.” “I wasn’t talking about [Lil Yachty],” he told Complex. “Yachty is on the album as well. On ‘Yes,’ he’s doing ad-libs with me. No, I’m not taking a jab at Yachty. It was like a whole double entendre. If I was referencing him, that would have been a whole other entendre. He was in the studio with me while I was making the album. He actually has a verse on [‘Yes’] too. I might throw it on there later.”

Big Sean Flows With Remarkable Ease In A New Freestyle For “Complex”

Big Sean is on a hot streak to reinforce his new album Better Me Than You, and not even the project’s release could slow him down. Moreover, he just joined Complex‘s elevator bank in New York City to drop a brand-new freestyle on Thursday (August 29) over a Hit-Boy-produced beat. The Detroit rapper’s most impressive feature here is his dominance of flow, weaving in and out of similar pockets without missing a beat: pun most definitely intended. Lyrically, he dives into his staunch self-confidence, lack of support in the rap game, and how he has changed as a person and an artist.

Furthermore, the reactions to this new freestyle are about as impressed and compelled as those to Big Sean’s new album. Better Me Than You was a hit with fans, albeit a failed attempt to convince any haters that his music is worth checking out. But those naysayers are in an ignorant minority, because there’s a lot of soul, introspection, hunger, and determination on this LP to nurture your listening sessions this week. All that’s left to see is whether or not this prolific run will continue past this point, or if we’ve already reached the quantity and quality peak of the Sean Don’s 2024 offerings.

Big Sean’s Complex Freestyle: Watch

Elsewhere, many fans expected Big Sean to plant his flag in the great rap beef of 2024, but he’s got other priorities in mind when it comes to the likes of Drake and Kendrick Lamar. Recently, he jokingly tried to imitate Drizzy’s “duck face” selfies online, which was pretty funny if not distinctly out of character for hip-hop these days, especially when it comes to The Boy. But “The Baddest” MC doesn’t seem interested in commenting on that showdown or feeding into its social media frenzy. That’s commendable in and of itself.

Meanwhile, it’s heartening to see Big Sean overcome many of his personal struggles and insecurities through this cathartic release. “When you make art, you put your heart into this s**t,” he expressed during a recent and emotive IG Live session. “When I had COVID last week, I was down. I was still working on the album. When I last dropped an album, it was COVID. I was excited to plan my release party, I was excited to do all of that. [My mother] was giving me them words. And I was just like, look, I can keep working on some s**t and make it exactly how I wanted. But I’d be pushing it back forever.”

Big Sean’s New Album “Better Me Than You” Splits Fans & Haters On Social Media

Big Sean has finally released his new album Better Me Than You, and fans are quite happy to witness his growth and development as a rapper. Moreover, there were all sorts of reactions online, many of them being impressed praises of the new project. Of course, there were also plenty of folks who chose not to listen to it at all, which is surely its own form of disappointment and frustration when compared to the people that actively disliked what they heard. Nevertheless, the Detroit MC has a lot he should be proud of on this new LP, especially after what he endured to make it here.

“When you make art, you put your heart into this s**t,” Big Sean said earlier this week on Instagram Live, tearfully addressing his new album and his career trajectory. “When I had COVID last week, I was down. And I was still working on the album. When I last dropped an album, it was COVID. I was excited to plan my release party, I was excited to do all of that. [My mother,] she was giving me them words. And I was just like, look, I can keep working on some s**t and make it exactly how I wanted. But I’d be pushing it back forever.”

Fans React To Big Sean’s New Album

What’s more is that Big Sean dropped some other material alongside Better Me Than You to give fans even more of what they’ve waited for. One of these cuts includes a surprising Ye homage on “Fighting Fires,” which is odd given their complex history. It seems like the G.O.O.D. Music signee still has love for his former boss, even if that might not be a two-way street. Either way, all’s well that ends well. Check out more reactions to this new album down below.

Meanwhile, make sure to drop your thoughts on Big Sean’s new album down there in the comments section. We haven’t even gotten close to breaking down the introspective bars on here, and the production has some lush details to replay over and over. But despite some biting accusations, what makes Better Me Than You compelling is his own charisma and hunger on it. It’s a very welcome treat, and one that we will continue to enjoy throughout 2024.

Big Sean Surprisingly Raps Over A Kanye West Beat On New Song, “Fighting Fires”

Big Sean’s new album Better Me Than You comes out in just a couple of hours (Friday, August 30), and fans can’t wait to hear what’s in store. However, some new SoundCloud-exclusive singles (or perhaps loosies) also have folks wondering whether we will get an update to one of his most complex sagas as a career musician. Of course, we’re talking about the Sean Don’s relationship with Kanye West, a complicated and often contentious one, especially in the 2020s decade. Nevertheless, Sean recently rapped about his status in the rap game on “Fighting Fires,” a SC-only song that used the beat from Ye and Ty Dolla $ign’s “MY SOUL” off of VULTURES 2.

This version of the cut features the VULTURES duo speaking about freedom, religion, and mass incarceration alongside Ty’s brother TC. Big Sean, on the other hand, provides more of a boastful and bar-heavy hip-hop display over the same “MY SOUL” instrumental. Another SoundCloud exclusive, “Dirty Work,” was taken down from the platform, so we don’t know if these are actual Better Me Than You singles or just random leftovers. Nevertheless, he had teased “Fighting Fires” all the way in July as a potential Kanye West and Ty Dolla $ign collaboration on their next VULTURES effort, but we now know that this didn’t work out.

Big Sean’s “Fighting Fires”: Listen

Rather, it seems like the former G.O.O.D. Music colleagues instead have their own individual versions of this cut. Big Sean has been through a lot to release Better Me Than You, so it’s no surprise that he wanted to get this release off his chest in some way. The album faced a full leak earlier this year, and many fans even thought that Kanye West was responsible for this. Sean himself dismissed this notion, instead showing love to Ye despite his disparaging comments about his G.O.O.D. signee during a previous interview.

Meanwhile, Kanye West isn’t the only person that allegedly inspired Big Sean amid this Better Me Than You rollout. Many Baby Keem fans felt like Sean was biting his style, another idea that he didn’t subscribe to at all. Nevertheless, his inspirations and dedications –wherever they come from – should make for a really compelling album experience. Here’s hoping that the lyrical firmness we’ve heard on these teaser cuts remains a prevalent theme on the LP.

Big Sean Reveals COVID Diagnosis During Emotional IG Live: Watch

Big Sean has been through a lot since he dropped his last album. He became a father, he quit drinking, and apparently, he suffered from COVID. The rapper hopped on Instagram Live ahead of his new album release and dropped the bombshell news about his diagnosis. Big Sean talked about the various ways in which he feels he’s been tested since 2020. He also relayed the importance of these tests, and the role they play in the lyrical content of Better Me Than You.

Big Sean doesn’t take long to get emotional. Upon reflecting on the last four years, the rapper starts to tear up. He turns away from the camera, and even cuts at one point before walking back into the frame. “When you make art, you put your heart into this sh*t,” he explains. Big Sean then reveals that he is in the midst of recovering from COVID. “When I had COVID last week,” he reveals. “I was down and I was still working on the album.” The rapper then pointed out the irony of his diagnosis, given that his last album, Detroit 2, dropped during the pandemic. “When I last dropped an album, it was COVID,” he noted. “I was excited to plan my release party, I was excited to do all of that.”

Big Sean Is Already Working On His Next Album

Big Sean credits his family with helping him get through such a difficult time. He recalls a phone call from his mother that helped to put everything in perspective. Especially with regards to the release date of the album. “She was giving me them words,” he explained. “And I was just like, look, I can keep working on some sh*t and make it exactly how I wanted. But I’d be pushing it back forever.” He ultimately decided to have faith in the music he had, and put it out August 30. “That’s what I’mma do,” he told viewers. “The album is dropping this week.”

Big Sean also revealed that he’s begun work on his next album. He explained that he kept working while he was sick, and actually has dozens of songs that didn’t make the Better Me Than You tracklist. One of them, evidently, features Fantasia. Big Sean dubbed their collab “soulful,” and hinted at its inclusion on whatever he drops next. The uncertainty over which songs to include makes sense, given that Sean had to deal with Better Me Than You leaking in its entirety. We’re excited to hear the final version.

Big Sean Delays Release Of Upcoming Album After Leak Controversies

Big Sean has not had luck on his side. The rapper was supposed to be basking in the goodwill from his comeback after four years of silence. Then, his teaser single got stepped on by the Drake and Kendrick Lamar beef. His album got leaked by a vengeful Kanye West stan. Big Sean took it all in stride, assuring fans they will get to hear the finished product on August 9. Well, the date is almost here, and now the ex GOOD Music rapper has revealed plans to delay its release. Rather Me Than You has suffered another setback.

The rapper took to Instagram on August 6 to announce the music video for his single “On Up.” He said that the accompanying album is “coming soon,” which confused a lot of fans. One of them took to the comment section to inquire about Big Sean’s plans. “Why u saying album soon like it’s not suppose to drop on the 9th?,” they wrote. The rapper then confirmed that Rather Me Than You would be getting a multi-week delay. “I gotta push it back just a lil bit,” Sean wrote. “Music done but jus organizing listening events, shows, etc.” The rapper then gave a rough estimate as to when fans can expect it. The glass half full take? At least it’s coming in August. “Might need a extra week or 2 to plan,” Big Sean concluded.

Big Sean Is Pushing His Album Release Back By 2 Weeks

Big Sean seemingly backed up these claims on Twitter. He threw out the idea of doing “end of summer” shows in select cities once his album drops. “Think im a do some end of summer bbq’s in a few cities,” he wrote. “‘On Up’ gimme that cook out feel. Any suggestions?! Local food vendors, merch, performance that the whole family can come to.” Big Sean is definitely leaning into the family man image, so the desire to promote a wholesome concert environment makes perfect sense. The low effort, laid back appeal is a feel that the Detroit rapper wants to convey on Better Me Than You.

He said as much during a recent Essence interview. When asked to explain the album, Big Sean made it clear that it’s his most authentic. “[It’s] just me having fun and expressing myself,” he stated. “The only thing I’m going for is just authenticity. I don’t like putting too much pressure on an album anymore. I just want to get my art off, do my thing.” Hopefully fans get to (officially) hear the album sooner, rather than later.

Big Sean’s Album Has A Release Date And Twitter Worries Kendrick Lamar Will Overshadow It

Big Sean seems like a nice guy. By all accounts, the rapper is well-liked and respected throughout the industry. There are seemingly only two rappers who don’t like him, but both have gone out of their way to steal his shine. Kanye West dissed Big Sean in a Drink Champs interview, and one of his fans leaked the rapper’s new album. Kendrick Lamar, meanwhile, has allegedly dissed the rapper on multiple occasions. To make matters worse, Lamar has a habit of overshadowing Big Sean’s releases. And social media is worried it’s going to happen again.

Sean Don announced that his new album, Better Me Than You, would be dropping August 9th. It was an exciting development, and a smart one given the recent leaks. The rapper released an official trailer for the album, which teased an unreleased beat. The feedback was positive, with many rooting for Sean to score a major comeback. Some, however, looked at Kendrick Lamar’s track record. Kendrick Lamar was the one who stomped on the release on Sean’s “Precision” single by dropping the “Like That” the same exact day. Then there was “Control” in 2013, which drew so much online attention for Lamar’s verse that it overshadowed the album it was supposed to be on. Never mind the fact that Dot calls Sean out on his own song.

Big Sean’s Release Date Coincides With A K. Dot Theory

Even when Kendrick Lamar is not stepping on Big Sean’s rollouts, he remains a talking point. The latter dropped a freestyle on July 16, and it went viral because listeners though he was dissing K. Dot. DJHed had to clarify that Sean was not, but by that point, the narrative had taken over. It’s also worth noting that Kendrick Lamar has an album rumored for release in August. The jacket Lamar wears in the “Not Like Us” video has an 8/8/2024 pendant, which many believe to be the official release date. If true, then Big Sean would once again be outdone by his Compton peer.

Big Sean’s Album Leaked And The Internet Genuinely Feels Bad For Him

Big Sean and Kanye West used to be a dynamic duo. The former was the golden boy of GOOD Music. Kanye West spoke incredibly high of the rapper, and featured him on several classic singles. Then, the rub came off, and the two men parted ways. Big Sean claimed that West owed him $6 million and his masters. West, meanwhile, claimed that he regretted signing Sean to GOOD Music in the first place. It was all very ugly and unpredictable, like most West beefs are. Things really took a turn for the worse on July 17, though.

Big Sean dropped a freestyle with disses thought to be aimed at West. Less than 24 hours later, a hacker claiming to be working for West leaked Sean’s upcoming album. “F*ck him and his team,” they wrote. A few people questions the validity of the album, but the hacker responded by claiming “Ye told me to leak it.” There’s nothing to confirm this claim, but it does raise some troubling questions about West and Sean and their current dynamic. The rap world has never seen an album get leaked out of spite before, but if the hacker is to be taken at his word, that’s what happened here.

Fans Feel Bad For Big Sean’s Continued Struggles

Unsurprisingly, social media has had a field day with this claim. Fans are shocked that West would stoop so low, and if the rapper didn’t know about the leak, then they are equally shocked by the fact that one of his stans would ruin Big Sean’s rollout. Some Twitter users voiced sympathy for Sean, as he constantly gets overshadowed by his peers. “Big Sean can never win lol,” they opined. “N**gah started his promo run and his album leaks 24 hrs later.” Another user pointed out that Sean’s lead single, “Precision,” was drowned out by the Drake and Kendrick Lamar beef. “Kendrick and Drake stepped on his single and then he diss Kanye,” they tweeted. “[Then] one of his fans leak his album n**ga can’t win.”
