Rod Wave Says His Album ‘Nostalgia’ is a Form of Therapy: ‘I Went Through a Lot of Real Life Stuff’

Rod Wave 'Nostalgia' Projected for 140K First Week and No. 1 Spot

Rod Wave pulled up on Nick and Eddie for Rap Life Radio on Apple Music 1 and talked about his fifth studio album, Nostalgia. In conversation, Rod Wave detailed the album as therapy.

“The music just therapy, bro. I just went through a lot of real life stuff,” Wave said. “A lot of stuff that I’ve just been going through on this journey, period, made me just appreciate the journey. It’s not the destination. It’s not where you’re going. It’s the time that you’re having while you’re doing it. I remember just doing little small shows with four, 500 people like, “Damn, I can’t wait til I’m in arenas,” and, “Damn, dog. I remember when I was like …” you know what I’m saying? Instead of just living in that moment with the people who was around me at the time. Because none of them people around me no more.

“My life is totally different…it’s just life, bro. So now I just want to appreciate the people who is around me, because two, three years from now, you never know, you know what I’m saying? Just going through it. I didn’t have to meditate or nothing. Just being aware of your surroundings, bro, and understanding what’s going on right in front of you.”

Rod Wave is eyeing another No. 1 debut with Nostalgia. According to chart rumors and updates, Wave is expected to bring in 130,000-140,000 copies of his new album, becoming the third-biggest rap debut of the year.

Ari Lennox Says She Hates “Craving Validation”

It seems that Ari Lennox is just as transparent in her social media posts as she is in her music. The D.C. native recently opened up about something many women can relate to: insecurities and love’s pitfalls. Taking to Twitter to vent her frustration, Ari talked about how harmful seeking validation from others can be. The “Pressure” singer added that she is unsure when she can see herself as others do.

“I hate that I crave validation in every ounce of my life. It is truly a miserable existence. I hate that I wish I was cool. I’m embarrassing. I don’t know when I’ll ever start loving myself. I don’t know if it’s possible. I can’t even enjoy all that I’ve created for myself,” Ari tweeted on Wednesday (August 30). Later the same day, she posted another tweet with a similar sentiment: “It’s painful reality to not be loved yet to crave it so bad in the most harmful places. To not be able trust anyone. To want people around but to push them away simultaneously. It’s mental misery,” she wrote.

“It Is Truly A Miserable Experience,” She Says

Following the initial post, support poured into the singer’s comment section immediately. “Ari this breaks my heart. You’re truly exceptional & everything you’ve accomplished has been on your own merit. Your vulnerability is so appreciated—you’re not alone. I know you’ll be able to get to the root of these feelings & fully enjoy life on your own terms,” one fan replied. Another fan added, “It takes time and a lot if work, but it’s possible.”

However, this isn’t the first time the Shea Butter Baby songstress has been vulnerable with her fans online. Earlier this year, she opened up about her desire to find love. “Have I made myself unattractive by wanting love so bad? By speaking about it? Complaining about it? I wish I didn’t crave it.” she tweeted back in March. “I wish it didn’t make me blind, weak, and so dangerously trusting… Wish I didn’t have emotions. Wish I didn’t care [sad face emoji].”

Here Are The Afro Nation Detroit Set Times For 2023

The Afro Nation festival series is arguably one of the most important live events in today’s Black music market as it bridges together the genres pioneered by Black entertainers, including Afrobeats, Afro-fusion, Amapiano, R&B, hip-hop, and more. At the inaugural installment of Afro Nation Detroit 2023 this weekend (August 19 and 20) held at the Bedrock’s Douglass site, artists such as Burna Boy, Davido, Ari Lennox, Latto, and will amplify the sounds heard around the world.

Burna Boy spoke with Los Angeles Times journalist Kenan Draughorne about the growing movement amongst native Africans and people with African ancestry living around the world, saying, “They’ve successfully broken us apart, to where many of us don’t even want to identify with each other. The primary objective for our people should be unity, and to build a bridge between us that can never close or break. With the music, I try to play my little part in trying to do that.”

Afro Nation Detroit is a mere example of this comradery, with music at the center of it all. View the set times below.

Limited VIP and general admission tickets are still available for Afro Nation Detroit 2023. Find more information here.

Ari Lennox Calls Phor’s Bedroom Pegging Confession “Beautiful”

The news cycle for the past few weeks has been particularly chaotic, and notably caused many debates about relationships and sexuality. Ne-Yo’s thoughts on children wanting to transition into the LGBTQ+ community before they’re of legal age came with plenty of backlash. Elsewhere, Finesse2tymes is being criticized for allowing his 10-year-old son to perform concerning lyrics to a crowd of thousands. Another person who’s been feeling the heat for expressing themselves is Phor, though he appears to be the only one channelling his energy in a productive way.

Earlier this month, the tattoo artist went viral due to a leaked photo from his OnlyFans that shows him spending time in a dog cage. “I’ve been a laid back n***a most of my life, most of this whole TV shit. I been chilling. Now that I’m at a place where I’m good and I’m getting my mind right and I’m doing what I wanna do outside of tattooing and music and TV shows n***a, I’m just doing me, I’m just living my life,” he clapped back at those shaming him.

Phor Gets Real About His Unconventional Sex Life

As they say, there’s no such thing as bad press, and Phor is taking full advantage of the attention he’s got from his NSFW content. On Angela Yee’s Lip Service podcast he spoke candidly about his experiences with pegging, being walked on a leash, and water sports – something Yung Miami is also familiar with.

As expected, some additional hate has come the 36-year-old’s way for being so honest about his sexual preferences. Thankfully he’s capable of letting the negative comments roll right off his back by now, especially because of the support he’s simultaneously been getting from other stars.

Good for him,” she wrote. Upon seeing her words, Phor took a screenshot to share on his IG Story, writing “❤ a real one.” Do you agree with Ari’s opinion?
