Lil Durk’s HBCU-Focused Scholarship Gave $350,000 To Howard University Students

Lil Durk is doing good.

According to Complex, the Chicago rapper has donated $100,000 scholarships to two students of Howard University through his Neighborhood Heroes HBCU College & Career Readiness Cohort Program. He also donated $250,000 to Howard’s financial aid program GRACE Grant.

“I’m the voice this the part they don’t show,” he wrote on Instagram. “I appreciate all the kids who struggling to finish school and needed this blessing.”

Howard’s GRACE (Graduation Retention Access to Continued Excellence) Grant program is designed to allow students with the greatest financial need to stay in school and graduate on time. Established in 2014 by President Frederick, the program provides additional funding for students who receive the maximum Federal Pell Grant, matching the Pell Grant distributions by 100% and providing additional funds.

Lil Durk has been working at cleaning up his image lately, choosing to present himself as the actual Voice Of The Heroes that he called himself on his joint project with Lil Baby. After his attempted murder charges from 2019 were dropped, Durk proclaimed he’d no longer drop the names of people who’d been victims of street violence in his music.

Since then, he’s used his voice to speak up on behalf of the incarcerated Young Thug, and apparently, make sure students have the option of finishing their education without having to turn to the streets.

A Supposed Pop Smoke Mural That Looks Nothing Like The Rapper Sparked Online Ridicule And Outrage

Pop Smoke was shot to death inside of his Hollywood Hills home in February 2020. The New York-born rapper (real name Bashar Barakah Jackson) tragically lost his life at just 20 years old. Earlier this month, the Associated Press reported that one man connected to Pop Smoke’s murder pled guilty to voluntary manslaughter.

There have been efforts to preserve his memory, including posthumous releases and the debut of a mural in his Brooklyn neighborhood months after his death.

Today, April 17, an mural, supposedly of the rapper is making the rounds online — and it looks nothing like Pop Smoke:

It’s unclear where the mural is located (it appears to be inside of a store), and it hasn’t been totally confirmed that the mural is intended to reflect Pop Smoke, but it does (somewhat) bear a resemblance to a photo of the late rapper.

The reactions are predictably negative. Commenters flooded No Jumper’s post claiming that the painted figure looks more like Babyface Ray, Fivio Foreign, or Lil Durk.

“They put the Snapchat baby face filter on him smh…,” a tweeter going by Dan I wrote, while Everyrealm compared it to the infamous Ronaldo sculpture from 2017.

While the mural is objectively sore, it was much more egregious when Aubrey Jackson, Pop Smoke’s mother, shared in September 2021 that his gravesite had been vandalized.

Off-White x Nike Air Force 1 Mid “Pine Green” Gets A Release Date

Virgil Abloh’s famed Off-White x Nike collaborations are a thing of legend. The legendary designer first linked up with Nike all the way back in 2017. Since that time, there have been various new collaborations to make their way to the market. Overall, Virgil’s impact on Nike is hard to truly quantify. Although he recently passed away, Nike still wants to push out new Off-White offerings. Simply put, it is a testament to just how much Virgil meant to the brand.

Aside from the original “The Ten” collection, Abloh got to work on a whole plethora of Off-White x Nike silhouettes. Some silhouettes were simply ones that already existed. However, he changed them up so much that they were beyond recognition. One shoe that got this kind of treatment was the Nike Air Force 1 Mid. Although this is a staple of the sneaker world already, Abloh and Off-White flipped it on its head with a spiky and bulky design.

Off-White x Nike Strikes Again

In the images above and below, you can find the “Pine Green” version of this Off-White x Nike Air Force 1 Mid. Immediately, you will come to realize that these are not for everyone. However, they are very cool, so there is that. Firstly, green adorns the upper and the spikes on the outsole. Secondly, the shoe gets an injection of white thanks to the Air logo on the tongue, the Nike swoosh, and of course, the infamous hang tag. Finally, we have an orange Air unit on the midsole. Seeing this unit is very unlike the Air Force 1, so it is cool to see here.

For those of you out there who are bold enough to wear a sneaker like this, you will be able to cop it as of Friday, April 28th. The price on these is $205 USD which makes sense thanks to all of the detail that we find here. Overall, these will be hard to wear, but they will create quite the outfit. Let us know what you think of the new Off-White x Nike collab, in the comments section below. Additionally, stay tuned to HNHH for the latest news and updates from around the sneaker world.

Update On NBA In-Season Tournament

The NBA will be adding an In-Season Tournament to the schedule next year. The addition will be the first time the league has done something of this magnitude. Many fans are skeptical about what adding something like this will do to the league. However, the league is moving forward with plans for the tournament and adding incentives. On Monday, NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski tweeted the latest details on the league’s newest adventure.

Here is the latest update on the in-season tournament from Woj’s official Twitter account. “@BobbyMarks42: 2023-2024 NBA In-Season Tournament schedule is expected to include quarters, semis and finals in early December. Prize money: $500K per player on winning team, $200K per player on runner-up; $100K per on semifinal loser; $50K per quarter loser.” The league is hoping these incentives will grab the attention of the players who will be involved. However, making the tournament mean something will take a lot more work than just incentives for the athletes.

NBA Making In-Season Tournament Worth Investment

Rest has long been an issue with the league and its athletes. A in-season tournament seems to go against giving the players the rest period they are looking for. However, making it worth their while could change the minds of those that will be potentially involved. There are still so many questions about how this tournament will proceed. First off, who will receive an invite to the tournament? Is there more than money going to the winner of the tournament?

These questions will surely be answered the closer we get to next season. But it seems the league will need to work on clarifying what the in-season tournament means to all involved. However, this topic is far from the minds of everyone involved in the game. The league is currently in the midst of the playoffs. The most important time of the year for those still in the hunt. However, what are your thoughts on the NBA adding an in-season tournament? Will players want to be involved? Let us know your thoughts on the tournament in the comment section. Who Is “Shabooya” Breakout Rapper Slimeroni?

Slimeroni has been making waves since emerging as one of four rappers on the viral breakout hit “Shabooya.” The newcomer is a frequent collaborator of fellow Memphis native, Glorilla, who is seeing a meteoric climb herself. With “Shabooya” featured Slime, Aleza, K Carbon, and Gloss Up. The track was a staple on TikTok and helped put several of the femcees on the map. We want to know more about Slimeroni as her career takes off. Learn more about the 26-year-old emerging star from Tennessee.

Representing Memphis

Slimeroni hails from the same city as other notable rappers, including Yo Gotti, Moneybagg Yo, and fellow newcomer Glorilla. Born and raised on the east side of Memphis, Slime’s household included her mother, sibling, grandmother, and aunt. According to Slime, her childhood sparked an early interest in the arts for her. On Sundays, she would watch her aunt and grandmother sing in the church choir.

While in school, she also embraced competitive dance and theater alongside lyric writing as outlets. After leaving Memphis to pursue a degree in criminology, she eventually returned home to pursue her growing interest in music. Shortly after, she began performing at local shows and other venues while also growing her following via social media.

Origins Of Her “Slimeroni” Moniker

Real name Aja Canyon, Slimeroni says that her stage name was given to her in her hometown. “Slime” is what she is called by her close friends, and “roni” comes from tenderoni, which means an attractive woman. “It’s gangster and Memphis but it’s got this femininity to it too,” she said of her sound. “It shows all
sides of me. I never just wanted to be one thing. And lyrics have gotten way harder, my writing keeps getting better. I’m having more fun with it.”

Songs & Collabs

In 2021, Memphis producer Hitkidd tapped Slimeroni, along with rappers Aleza, K- Carbon, Gloss Up, and Glorilla, to appear on the hit song “Set The Tone.” The artists would come together in future collaborations, including “Shabooya,” “Set The Tone 2,” “You The Type,” and others. The chemistry between Slimeroni and her other frequent collaborators has led to each song seeing a tremendous amount of success. “Set The Tone” currently has over 4 million views on YouTube alone. “Shaybooya” already has over 30 million views on the same platform.

Not relying solely on the creative chemistry between her and her collaborators, Slimeroni’s solo career is taking off as well. Before “Set The Tone” featured her and her fellow artists, Slimeroni released the singles “Thrift Store Wh***s,” “Gangsta,” “ Lil Drumma Girl,” and “Hellraiser.” She recently released the video for her latest single, “Trust Issues,” on YouTube, to much acclaim from her fans. There is no word on when to expect a full solo album or mixtape from the new artist, but her current catalog of rising hits can hold fans over until the future.

A Viral Sensation

With the hit single “Shabooya” seeing much of its early success via social media, it only makes sense that the artists behind the hit have a strong online following. On Instagram, Slimeroni, also known as Kween Slime, has over 124k followers. Also known as “The IT Gworl” and “The Villian” on her bio, Slimeroni’s posts often showcase her sharply creative sense of fashion, another trait her fans love. On her Instagram page, many of her pics get up to well over 20k likes from her adoring fans.

What’s Next For Slimeroni?

She recently wrapped a tour with Glorilla, and fans of Slimeroni are expecting more collaborations to come out of the friendship. Slowly becoming one of the hottest new artists out of Memphis, Slimeroni is on track to become one of the next prominent female rappers in the game. With the momentum of “Shabooya” and “Set The Tone” still moving forward, Kween Slime’s popularity and opportunities will grow as well.

Pop Smoke Mural Gets Roasted Online

Years after his untimely death, Pop Smoke’s legacy continues to loom large over the hip-hop world. However, not every attempt to immortalize and celebrate his memory has gone over particularly well. On one hand, some people disrespectfully vandalized The Woo’s mural last December to many’s outrage. Still, a new mural has people feeling heated for other, albeit much less overtly disrespectful reasons. On Monday (April 17), an unknown mural made rounds on social media, for which people don’t know the location, artist, or if it was even meant to resemble Pop. However, the details certainly match up, even if many fans think it looks nothing like the rapper.

Of course, Twitter had a field day reacting to this news, either making jokes about it or expressing straight up disgust. Still, since it’s unclear where this mural is, it’s not like people can go out and ask around its location to see who could explain some more. Despite the confusion, it looks to be inside a store, so take that hint and run with it if you’re in the New York area. Also, this news comes shortly after a suspect in his murder pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter and received a sentence of four years and two months in juvenile detention.

Pop Smoke Mural Gets Blasted Online

Even though this mural isn’t the best look for Pop Smoke’s legacy, given that his fans seem to hate it, the New York legend lives on in many other ways. One of those is his strong connections to other heavy-hitters in the industry who tell stories of what a pleasure he was to work with. “I f***ed with Pop Smoke and the whole Drill sound,” Polo G said on the Full Send podcast. “You know, coming from Chicago, that’s where that s**t started at. So, I really tapped into they s**t. I hit up Pop like, ‘Yo, let’s do this.’ He had been hitting me up in the past, but before I knew who he was. And then, when I seen they wave going strong, I hit him like, ‘Yo, I f**k with y’all s**t. Let’s do something.’” Polo was asked if he worked with Pop in the studio.

“The craziest thing, I worked with him right before he passed,” he continued. “I was in the studio with him. He said he was leaving to L.A. I stayed in New York an extra day to make sure Fivio [Foreign] laid his verse [for ‘Clueless’]. And Pop, a contact was telling me Pop wanted to get in the stu in L.A. the night he passed. ‘Cause I live there, he live there. We was supposed to get up.” Furthermore, he shared that Pop Smoke asked Polo for the name of a popular Chicago spot to shout out in his verse, and he did exactly that. Check out reactions to the controversial Pop Smoke mural below and return to HNHH for more on the late legend’s legacy.

LeBron James Had Premonition On Lakers Teammate

LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers took down the Memphis Grizzlies on Sunday night. The 128-112 victory proved the Lakers can compete with one of the top teams in the West. But James didn’t do it all alone. The Lakers had help from budding stars Austin Reaves and Rui Hachimura. The duo for over 50 points, assisting the team in a massive way. After the game, James was asked about the performance by Reaves. For James, he knew it was something the guard was always capable of.

“I knew from the first practice that we had when we grabbed him that he wasn’t gonna be a two-way player for long… I’m extremely happy for him. I want him to do it again.” James claims he knew of Reaves’ talents the first time the two shared the floor together. James’ basketball IQ has long been shown to be of the elite. However, knowing that Reaves would be an incredible talent from day one is an incredible statement by James. Reaves has been a very bright spot for the franchise during their playoff push.

LeBron James Always Believed In Reaves

The Lakers will need to continue to see these kinds of performances from Reaves. While James and Anthony Davis are the focal points of the team. But having a third option in Reaves or Hachimura will go a long way in the team’s playoff success. However, James’ so-called premonition about Reaves brought back many great moments from social media on The King’s comments about past knowledge. James has been known to claim he knew something before it happened on several occasions.

No matter when James knew it, Reaves is becoming a star. Many were out on the Los Angeles Lakers one week into the regular season. But now the team is looking like it could compete for a Western Conference title. However, being the seventh seed does come at a price. In order for the Lakers to make it to the mountaintop, they will need to be a good team every step of the way. Can LeBron James lead the Lakers to their second title since his arrival? Or are the Lakers catching a break with an injured Grizzlies team? Let us know your thoughts on the Lakers playoff hopes in the comment section. Vince Staples Voices Frustration Over The Alchemist’s EP Leak

Vince Staples has reacted to the news that his unreleased EP with The Alchemist was leaked last week. In a post on Twitter, he seemed to imply that the iconic producer was responsible for the leak.

“Leaking means you’re tweaking,” he wrote alongside a photo of Michael Jackson with the caption, “You raggedy bitch.” Staples first revealed that he had worked with The Alchemist on a number of songs back in July 2021 during an interview with Apple Music‘s Ebro Darden. He explained that he recorded numerous verses for a collaborative project with Earl Sweatshirt but that The Alchemist was holding things up.

“Alchemist had hit me, he was like, ‘I want this project. Me, you and Earl. I only need three weeks,’” Vince explained. “I’m like, ‘Alright, I’ll do it.’ So we go over there, and they get high. So I’m the only one over there rapping and I don’t smoke, so it didn’t really blend. I was getting headaches. So next thing I know I got 30 verses on 30 beats… I thought we was collaborating. Whatever, boom. I got 10 songs, I’m like, ‘Alright man, we finna put these songs out.’ Alchemist moves at a very cryptic pace, you know, he’s hella slow.”

Alchemist later fired back at Staples on Twitter. “Vince is full of shit. Ive have a finished 6 song EP with JUST HIM for over 3 months!!” he wrote at the time. “MIXED! Plus mad songs with him and Thebe.” From there, it appeared that the songs would never be released.

As for official music from the “Norf Norf” rapper, Staples released his last project, Ramona Park Broke My Heart, in April 2022. The project was met with acclaim from both fans and critics alike, and according to Brian B. Dot Miller, JAY-Z even labeled Staples “one of the smartest, most creative” rappers after hearing it.

Kim Kardashian Channels Uma Thurman In “Kill Bill”

Kim Kardashian is someone who is deeply embedded in the fashion world. Although she was mostly dressed by Kanye for many years, she still knows her way around a wardrobe. Moreover, she is someone who has her very own clothing line. She has a keen eye for an outfit, and she can make it work at any given moment. This has been especially true over the last couple of weeks or so as Kim K has been out and about with her children in Japan. Throughout the trip, Kardashian hit us with numerous fit pics that had her fans gushing.

As it turns out, Kim Kardashian is not done stunning fans with her well put together ensembles. Recently, she took to Instagram with a reference to the infamous Quentin Tarantino film Kill Bill. Of course, the main character of the film is played by none other than Uma Thurman. Overall, this is an iconic role that people still gush about. Additionally, she had a pretty exceptional wardrobe in that movie. Simply put, it should come as no surprise that Kim would want to recreate it.

Kim Kardashian Continues To Stun

In the images up above, you can see that Kim is wearing a zip-up leather jacket. Firstly, the main color here is black. Secondly, the sleeves and shoulders have a black strip going all the way down. When you put these elements together, you get an amazing recreation of what Thurman wore on the posters to the film. Of course, she also wore that outfit in various iconic scenes that are quite bloody, gruesome, and ironically beautiful. Subsequently, Kim Kardashian showed off some caps from the movie, just in case some didn’t get the reference. However, if you don’t know this is Kill Bill, you are simply too young to be on social media.

While Kim won’t be in any Tarantino movies anytime soon, she will be doing some acting. It was recently announced that the entrepreneur will be on the latest season of American Horror Story. She has acted before, but never in anything as serious as this particular show. Let us know how you think she will do, in the comments down below.
