Nicki Minaj Sued By Ex Manager For Alleged Assault And Battery
Nicki Minaj is starting the year with legal troubles. The rapper is being sued by her former manager, Brandon Garrett, for allegedly striking him during a tour. Garrett claims that the “Super Freaky Girl” berated him for failing to properly follow chain of command for a prescription pickup. The manager additionally claimed that Nicki Minaj was verbally abusive to him in front of others. The rap superstar allegedly went as far as to say that Garrett was a “dead man walking.”
Garrett’s allegations date back to April 2024. Nicki Minaj was in the midst of her Pink Friday 2 tour, which is currently the highest grossing tour for a female rapper of all time. The ex manager claimed Nicki Minaj was absolutely fuming when she found out he failed to pick up a prescription. A prescription Garrett was specifically told to collect. “Are you f**king crazy having him pick up my prescription? You have lost your f**king mind,” Minaj was alleged to have said. “If my husband were here, he would knock out your f**king teeth.”

The rapper reportedly threatened Garrett point blank. “You’re a dead man walking,” she allegedly added. “You just f**ked up your whole life.” Brandon Garrett then accused the rapper of striking him in the face. He claimed that the rapper hit him so hard that his neck snapped back and his hat fell off. Security was said to have intervened, but not before Nicki Minaj allegedly struck Garrett in the wrist. The ex manager reportedly dropped the documents he was holding as a result. He left the room, and hid in a bathroom for several hours. When he emerged, however, he claimed Minaj’s team had left him stranded in Detroit, Michigan.
Brandon Garrett is suing the superstar for assault and battery, as well as damages. Nicki Minaj’s lawyer, Judd Burstein, told TMZ that that she has yet to be properly served, however. “We are unaware of the specific allegations,” Burstein explained. “However, if the lawsuit is as reported by TMZ, it is completely false and frivolous. We are confident that the matter brought by this ex assistant will be resolved swiftly in Mrs. Petty’s favor.”

Outlawz Member Young Noble Disses Nas In New Song “EuthaNASia”
Tupac and Nas did not get along. Despite, or perhaps because of the fact that they were two of the most respected rappers of their generation, they clashed. Tupac bombed on Nas with the posthumous single “Against All Odds,” and Nas allegedly dissed ‘Pac on “The Message.” Unsurprisingly, Tupac’s group, the Outlawz, took his side in the feud. They declared war on Nas and the rest of the West Coast. And based on the latest release by Outlawz rapper Young Noble, the war isn’t over.
Young Noble released a diss against Nas on Thursday, January 2. Titled “EuthaNASia,” the diss sees the Outlawz veteran absolutely tear into Nas as though it’s still 1996. The lyrics aren’t quite on par with what Nasir has been putting out as of late. But that’s an unreasonably high bar. Young Noble spends a lengthy seven minutes digging into Nas’ past and rumors that he’s heard from peers like N.O.R.E. The beat goes pretty hard, even if it does eventually wear out its welcome. A solid diss, and one that should come as no surprise given Young Noble’s recent comments about Nas.

Young Noble Bombs On Nas For Seven Minutes
The Outlawz rapper recently called out Snoop Dogg for “misremembering” an incident involving Tupac and Nas. He claimed that Snoop misrepresented the interaction the two rappers had at Bryant Park in the 1990s. “He had a wild version of the story like Nas had ‘Pac surrounded and all that,” Young Noble stated to the Art of Dialogue. “I’m thinking maybe Snoop don’t realize all these n**gas is actually with Tupac…. Not with Nas.” The rapper showed nothing but love for Snoop Dogg, given the latter’s bond with Tupac, but he did jokingly reference Kendrick Lamar’s recent call out of Snoop Dogg on the song “wacced out murals.”
Young Noble felt that it may have been the “edibles” the LBC legend was taking that compromised his memory of the Bryant Park incident. “When Kendrick […] was saying to Snoop, ‘I hope it was the edibles.’ I hope it was the edibles when he said this one,” the rapper posited. It will be fascinating to see if Nas decides to respond to Young Noble on wax. The Queens rapper has taken a reverent approach to Tupac ever since he passed, so he may let the diss slide out of respect to the late great.

Drake Posts Bahamas Photo After Dropping “Fighting Irish” Freestyle
Drake has the internet in a chokehold again. The rapper played coy with new music in 2024, but he’s managed to make quite a fuss in the first couple days of 2025. He leaked three snippets of new songs on Thursday, January 2. He continues to tease his joint PARTYNEXTDOOR album. And on Friday, January 3, Drake released the “Fighting Irish” freestyle on YouTube. The song quickly got taken down, but the bars had fans scrambling to determine who they were targeted at. All the while, the 6 God retreated to one of his favorite vacation spots: the Bahamas.
Drake posted a photo of himself on Instagram the same day he released “Fighting Irish.” There was no caption or hashtag referencing the freestyle, but the intentionality was there. Drake posted up in a very tropical shirt, evoking the lifestyle he sung about on 2024’s “Bahamas Promises.” The rapper is clearly getting ready for something big in terms of a rollout. “Fighting Irish” freestyle took aim at a lot of people, and the Instagram post that followed the song’s release is giving the impression that Drake is unbothered by the drama.

Drake Looked Unbothered In New Instagram Photo
The decision to post a tropical-themed photo may also be a nod to one of Drake’s new lyrics. “I guess now you boys gotta abandon your summer tradition,” he spits. “Cold shoulders I gave in the Hamptons, it come with the distance.” Some fans have even theorized that these bars are aimed at Michael Rubin and his annual White Out parties. Drake is drawing a line between his friends and his many, many enemies. It is the start of a new era for the 6 God, and his activities over the last couple days all but confirm it.
Drake’s “Fighting Irish” freestyle also makes good on a rumor that fans heard as far back as July. Peter Rosenberg and Ebro claimed that Drizzy has multiple albums in the works, including one with Conductor Williams. The very same producer who made the “Fighting Irish” beat. “I also heard that he has a whole project’s worth of music done with Conductor Williams,” Rosenberg said on Ebro In the Morning. “Which is the opposite [of recent Drake songs], very hip-hoppy.” Maybe the new song will finally open the flood gates for fans to hear this alleged album.

Jelly Roll Urges Eminem And MGK To Squash Years Long Feud
Jelly Roll occupies an interesting space. He rides a fine line between genres, and has established professional relationships with both Eminem and MGK. He’s a fan of both artists, and he has even recorded multiple songs with MGK. Jelly Roll’s hope, however, is that Eminem and MGK ultimately squash their differences. The two superstars have been feuding for almost a decade, and have yet to break bread with each other. Jelly Roll hopes that he can be the bridge between their two worlds.
Jelly Roll discussed the contentious relationship between Eminem and MGK during a recent stint on Andrew Schulz’s Flagrant podcast. He admitted that his dream is to one day bring them together and show just how much they have in common. “My heart is always to bring them together one day,” Jelly Roll said. “I see so much more of them in each other than they know.” The artist admitted that he’s a bit hesitant to breach the topic with Eminem, since they are still getting to know each other. “I’m just still kinda glad that I’m in that circumference to be able to have them conversations.”

Jelly Roll Thinks Both Rappers Actually Respect Each Other
Jelly Roll and MGK are much closer, and the former told the Flagrant panel that they both grew up idolizing Eminem. “If you got mentioned in an Eminem song, it was like getting mentioned in a comedy special,” he recalled thinking at a young age. “You couldn’t be hotter if you got mentioned in an Eminem [song].” Roll believes that Eminem’s willingness to trade disses with MGK denoted a sign of respect. Andrew Schulz agreed, and claimed that MGK’s respect went up in the aftermath of the Slim Shady battle.
It seems like Eminem may be ready to bury the hatchet with MGK. The rapper acknowledged all of the beefs he’s had over the years on his 2024 song “Guilty Conscience 2.” He made it clear that he wanted to move on from the combative aspects of his career and embrace a more positive outlook. Eminem also joked about MGK having sex with his mother during a parody interview with himself. Maybe Jelly Roll’s job will be easier than he realizes.

Bossman Dlow Shoots His Shot With GloRilla After Dubbing Her “Wife”
Bossman Dlow is a GloRilla fan. The two rappers collaborated on the songs “Step” and “Finesse,” but that clearly wasn’t enough for Dlow. The rapper decided to openly thirst after his collaborator on Friday, after she posted a photo in an eye-catching outfit. Bossman Dlow decided to shoot his shoot, and refer to GloRilla as his “wife.” There’s no two ways about it, he was down bad. This is not the first time that he has made his admiration for Glo public knowledge, however.
Bossman Dlow reposted GloRilla’s aforementioned photo and went wild with the emojis. He included two heart eyes emojis and two weary face emojis with a very unsubtle message. Dlow was into it. “Jesus Lord help me,” Dlow wrote. “God why did you take yo time with my wife like this @glorillathepimp.” The Glo fan base took to the comment section to tell Bossman Dlow to chill out, but the overall sentiment was humor above everything else. Dlow has made it clear he has a crush on GloRilla, as recently as his last interview on The Breakfast Club.

Bossman Dlow Wants To Make An Album With GloRilla
Charlamagne Tha God asked Bossman Dlow if he’s “extra fresh” when he sees GloRilla, and the latter claimed he was “fresh” all the time. The host then called out Dlow for blushing when GloRilla’s name got brought up. “I f*ck with her,” the rapper admitted. “I f*ck with Glo.” The two even joked about getting Glo something for Christmas. Bossman Dlow also made his fandom clear during a December appearance on 99 Jamz. The host asked whether he would be interested in making an album or EP with GloRilla, and he was very much into the idea. “That would be hard,” Bossman Dlow explained. “She’s super cool, like for real.”
Unfortunately, for Dlow, GloRilla isn’t looking for a hook up. The rapper recently announced that she would be remaining celibate until she’s wed. “Single & celibate until God send me my husband,” she wrote on Instagram in November. GloRilla also practiced celibacy during the first couple months of 2024. “Started my 90 day celibacy lil sh*t for new year’s or wtv,” she said. “I’m on da 9th day & my vision blurry af.”

[SEE IT] Gunna’s Attorney Bluntly Reaffirms: ‘Gunna’s plea could not and was not used at Thug’s trial’
Gunna’s attorney is stepping up to set the record straight regarding his client’s involvement in the YSL RICO case and the accusations of him being a “snitch.”
On January 3, 2025, attorney Steve Sadow took to social media to defend the rapper against claims that he cooperated with authorities to secure his release, particularly in relation to his relationship with fellow rapper Young Thug.
He was blunt about it all to say the least and we have to say the facts are the facts. But we have to ask, does anyone really care whether he did or didn’t? Anyways, let’s keep unpacking …
Let’s recap the YSL RICO Case and Gunna’s situation
Gunna, born Sergio Giavanni Kitchens, became a focal point of the YSL (Young Slime Life) RICO trial when he took an Alford plea in December 2022, after spending 8 months in jail. The plea deal allowed Gunna to avoid a lengthy prison sentence, but it also sparked intense controversy, with critics accusing him of betraying his YSL associates, including Young Thug, who was facing similar charges. Gunna was sentenced to five years with a suspended sentence, meaning no jail time, probation, or travel restrictions, which further fueled speculation about his alleged cooperation with authorities.
However, Sadow strongly refuted the idea that Gunna cooperated with prosecutors to undermine Young Thug’s case. In a detailed post on X (formerly Twitter), Sadow explained that Gunna did not “cooperate,” “say anything,” or “do anything” to harm Young Thug’s defense. He clarified that Gunna’s plea agreement was never used during Young Thug’s trial, and Gunna was not named as a witness. He also pointed out that Gunna’s sentence included no probation, travel restrictions, or living conditions, and he was able to continue his music career while Young Thug’s trial proceeded.
Onto defending Gunna’s rep
Sadow’s post also took aim at those who continue to criticize Gunna, including prominent rappers like Lil Baby and Lil Durk, who publicly labeled him a “rat” following the plea deal. Lil Baby, in particular, called Gunna out during a 2023 interview with DJ Akademiks, which sparked further division in the hip-hop community. In response, Sadow wrote, “THOSE THAT HAVE AND CONTINUE TO BAD MOUTH GUNNA, GET OVER IT. NUFF’ SAID.”
Sadow went on to compare Gunna’s situation to Young Thug’s. While Gunna was able to move forward with his career, performing internationally and earning millions, Young Thug spent over two years in jail, ultimately pleading guilty to lesser charges and being sentenced to 15 years of probation with reporting conditions. Sadow made it clear that Gunna’s decision to take the plea did not impact Thug’s case, noting, “Gunna did NOT cooperate, and did NOTHING and said NOTHING to cause harm to Thug’s case.”
What probably matters most–Gunna responded via music
In addition to his attorney’s statement, Gunna addressed the accusations of snitching in his music. On his song “Bread & Butter,” the rapper directly confronted the claims of betrayal, rapping about his loyalty to Young Thug and his refusal to cooperate with authorities. He said, “F**k I pay the lawyers all those mills for? / Just so I won’t have to say a word to dodge a railroad.”
Gunna continued, emphasizing his integrity: “Never gave no statement or agreed to take no stand on ’em… On whatever you ni**as on, then trust me, I’m a stand on it.” He also hinted at the manipulative tactics used by the D.A. and his lawyers, expressing that he was now prepared for the system’s challenges.
How all the he said, who said or didn’t say is shaping up
As Gunna continues to face criticism from his peers and fans, his legal team remains adamant that he did not compromise his morals to gain his freedom. With his case now part of a larger conversation about loyalty, justice, and the complexities of the YSL RICO trial, Gunna’s future in the industry and his relationships with fellow artists will likely remain under intense scrutiny. For now, though, his attorney has made it clear: Gunna has kept his integrity intact throughout this tumultuous period.

Selena’s Murderer, Yolanda Saldivar’s Case Set For Parole Review After 30 Years
Yolanda Saldivar, the woman convicted of murdering beloved Tejano music star Selena Quintanilla-Pérez in 1995, will soon have her case reviewed for parole. The parole panel in Texas is set to consider Saldivar’s eligibility for release in late March 2025, marking 30 years since the tragic shooting that shook the Latin music world.
Selena, known for her powerful voice and groundbreaking success in the Tejano music genre, was fatally shot by Saldivar at a Days Inn in Corpus Christi, Texas, on March 31, 1995. At the time of the shooting, Saldivar had been the president of Selena’s fan club and managed the singer’s clothing stores. However, just weeks before the murder, Saldivar had been removed from her positions and cut off from the business accounts after Selena discovered discrepancies in the financial records.
Saldivar’s motives for the crime were said to stem from this confrontation, and prosecutors claimed that Selena was shot in the back by Saldivar as she was attempting to leave the motel room. Severely wounded, Selena ran to the lobby and told hotel staff that Saldivar had shot her before collapsing. Tragically, Selena died later that afternoon at the age of 23.
After a nine-hour standoff with law enforcement, Saldivar was arrested and later convicted of first-degree murder. She was sentenced to life in prison and is currently serving her sentence at the Mountain View Unit in Texas.
Now onto the parole review process.
Saldivar, now 64, is eligible for parole on March 30, 2025. Under Texas law, inmates become eligible for parole once they have served a specified portion of their sentence and the offense is considered parole-eligible. The parole review process begins about six months before an inmate becomes eligible for parole, and the case will be heard by a panel around that time.
Trial officials and registered victims, including Selena’s family, will be notified of the parole review, allowing them to submit their input on the decision. As part of the process, an Institutional Parole Officer will interview Saldivar, and a file with all relevant details will be sent to the voting parole panel for consideration. If Saldivar is granted parole, she could be released no earlier than March 30, 2025. However, if the panel denies parole, a new review date will be set, typically between one and five years from the decision.
The lasting impact of Selena’s murder.
Selena was at the height of her career when she was killed, having achieved major milestones, including winning a Grammy in 1994 for Best Mexican-American Album for Live. Her album Amor Prohibido produced several number-one hits and was nominated for a Grammy. The year after her death, Selena’s crossover album Dreaming of You topped the Billboard 200, further cementing her legacy as one of the most influential Latin artists of all time.
Her murder not only devastated her fans but also marked a tragic turning point for the Latin music industry, where Selena had been an inspiring force for women and artists of all backgrounds.
Saldivar has appealed but faced many legal challenges.
Saldivar has filed several appeals over the years, all of which have been unsuccessful. In her 1998 appeal, her attorneys argued multiple points of error during the trial, including claims of racial discrimination in jury selection, the admission of prejudicial evidence, and the denial of motions for a mistrial and a new trial. More recently, in 2019, Saldivar filed an appeal based on the assertion that prosecutors had withheld key evidence—specifically, a pair of white shoes and a black baseball cap—that could have supported her defense. The court rejected her argument, and the appeal was dismissed.
Despite these setbacks, Saldivar’s legal team continues to challenge her conviction, but to no avail.
What lies ahead for Saldivar?
As Saldivar’s parole review approaches, the question of whether she will be released remains uncertain. Selena’s family, fans, and the larger Tejano music community are likely to continue voicing their opposition to Saldivar’s release, given the brutality of the crime and the lasting impact of Selena’s death. Whether the parole panel will consider these factors, along with Saldivar’s behavior during her imprisonment, will determine whether she will be granted the opportunity to walk free after three decades behind bars.
The upcoming parole hearing is a significant moment in the case, drawing attention to the ongoing legacy of Selena and the unresolved pain felt by her family and fans. As March 2025 approaches, all eyes will be on the Texas parole board as they decide whether or not Yolanda Saldivar will be granted parole for the murder of one of the most beloved stars in Latin music history.
