YG Seemingly Responds To Drake’s “Family Matters” On New Single

YG was not involved in the Drake vs. Kendrick Lamar battle. He was actually one of the few West Coast artists who didn’t step in with an opinion. The problem, he was directly referenced by name on the Drake diss “Family Matters.” The 6 God used the Compton rapper to discredit Lamar by claiming YG banged a set but Lamar didn’t. It was a relatively unimportant line, and one that saw YG get lumped in with other artists. No big deal, right? Well, it seems like the Compton rapper felt a way about it.

YG dropped a new single titled “Weird,” and in it he seemingly makes reference to the fact that he was, well, referenced. The lines he drops suggest that he didn’t care for Drake involving him in a battle that he had nothing to do with. Especially when it was battle with another West Coast artist. “When it’s smoke, don’t ever mention my name (mention my name),” he raps on the track. “You gon’ have me jeopardizin’ my fame, jeopardizin’ the gang, jeopardizin’ where you hang, n**ga.” The rapper doesn’t mention anybody by name, but it doesn’t take a lot of sleuthing to put the pieces together.

YG Calls Out Drake For Referencing Him In A Diss

YG and Drake have had a long collaborative history together. Drake appeared on the single “Who Do You Love?” from his 2014 debut, My Krazy Life. The single peaked at 54 on the Billboard Hot 100, making it the second-biggest release from the album. YG and Drake teamed back up for “Why You Always Hatin?” in 2016, which peaked at number 62. YG also served as the opening act for the Drake vs. Lil Wayne tour, which took place the same year. As friendly as the two rappers have been over the years, YG’s bond with Kendrick Lamar supersedes it.

Both rappers hail from Compton, and rap about similar subject matter. YG praised Lamar as a rapper and as a collaborator during an MTV interview from over a decade ago. “It’s A-1 to be able to get somebody like that on my record,” he told the outlet. “I knew Kendrick before I blew up, he knew me before he blew up and be rocking with what I was doin’ and I been rocking with what they was doin’ so it’s all love and respect.” It’s also worth noting that Mustard, YG’s longtime friend and collaborator, produced K. Dot’s Drake diss and number one single, “Not Like Us.” The rapper was also going to side with the West.

Tha Dogg Pound Drop Star-Studded Tracklist For Their New Album

Tha Dogg Pound are back and better than ever. The West Coast powerhouse has been promoting the hell out of their upcoming album on podcasts. Kurupt and Daz Dillinger have mended fences after years of dissent, and everything we’ve heard so far suggests that they put their best foot forward when it came to making W.A.W.G. (We All We Got). Even the title advertises the newfound sense of unity the group feels. Now that Dogg Pound has dropped the tracklist, though, we can confidently say they have a lot.

Snoop Dogg is technically not a member of Dogg Pound. The group always comprised of Kurupt and Daz, with Snoop being part of the larger D.P.G.C. (Dogg Pound Gangsta Clicc). That being said, he’s a major part of this album. Tha Doggfather is featured on eight of the album’s fourteen tracks, which is more than enough to qualify him as the honorary “third” member. It doesn’t hurt that Snoop is now the owner of Death Row Records, which W.A.W.G. is being released through.

Tha Dogg Pound Are Bringing Back Death Row Vets

Fans of the Death Row heyday will be thrilled to know that other OGs are in the mix. Lady of Rage and RBX will contribute verses to the last song, which is fitting given their essential contributions to the Dr. Dre album that started it all, The Chronic. There will also be multiple features from Butch Cassidy, who wasn’t present for Death Row but has worked with all of its affiliates over the years. Cassidy is a Long Beach native, just like Snoop and Daz. The more intriguing collaborators come from the production.

Mike & Keys handled the lion’s share of the album’s songs, which makes sense given their LA sound. It’s cool to see a producer as capable as Daz, who produced most of the first two Dogg Pound albums, hand over the reigns to younger artists to see what they can provide. It will ensure that W.E.W.G. doesn’t sound like a retread. Hyphy legend Rick Rock will work his magic on two songs, one of which features Will.i.am. The most exciting producer choice, though, is Dogg Pound linking up with DJ Premier for the outro, titled “Who Da Hardest.” That one is going to hit hard.

W.A.W.G. Tracklist:

  1. Intro (featuring Snoop Dogg)
  2. Smoke Up (featuring Snoop Dogg)
  3. We All We Got (featuring Tha Eastsidaz & Snoop Dogg)
  4. Imma Dog
  5. Need Some Space (featuring Blxst)
  6. Favorite Color Blue
  7. Inside of Her (featuring Butch Cassidy)
  8. House Party (featuring Snoop Dogg)
  9. After Hours (featuring DaBaby, Snoop Dogg & Butch Cassidy)
  10. LA Kind of Love (featuring Will.i.am)
  11. Grown Up (featuring Snoop Dogg)
  12. The Weekend (featuring Jane Hancock & October London)
  13. Always on My Mind (featuring Snoop Dogg & Butch Cassidy)
  14. Who Da Hardest (featuring Lady of Rage, RBX & Snoop Dogg)

Giant Trading Card Honoring Baseball Legend Leroy “Satchel” Paige was unveiled at Negro Leagues Baseball Museum

The Negro Leagues Baseball Museum announced a collaboration with FOX Sports and Fanatics Collectibles ahead of this summer’s special presentation of MLB at Rickwood Field: A Tribute to the Negro Leagues. The collaboration featured an unveiling of a giant trading card, honoring Negro Leagues legend Satchel Paige, at the museum. This card is the first of four baseball legends featured during a promotional tour at select Major League Baseball games and tourist destinations throughout May and June, and will also include Josh Gibson, Jackie Robinson and Willie Mays.

The giant trading cards, featuring the Negro Leagues greats, stand 24×16 ft and weigh in at 8,000 lbs. They were masterfully sketched by former MLB player Micah Johnson using only his fingers, charcoal sticks, an eraser, and a paint roller. The tour, which fittingly kicked off at the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum, only builds the anticipation for the one-of-a-kind matchup between the St. Louis Cardinals and San Francisco Giants on Thursday, June 20 that will be played at historic Rickwood Field, America’s oldest ballpark located in Birmingham, and televised nationally on FOX.

The greats of the Negro Leagues are larger-than-life figures in American history and the history of the great game of baseball and it is only fitting to have a larger-than-life unveiling at the Negro League Baseball Museum,” said Bob Kendrick, President of the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum. “We would like to thank our friends at FOX Sports, Fanatics Collectibles, and Major League Baseball for keeping the spirit of Black baseball alive.”

“We are honored to pay tribute to the enduring legacy of the Negro Leagues and its players with this one-of-a-kind, larger-than-life activation,” said FOX Sports President of Marketing, Robert Gottlieb. “And we couldn’t be more grateful to have the opportunity to launch this tour at the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum, providing fans a unique access point to uncover a deeper knowledge and understanding of the league and its history.”

The unveiling also featured a one-hour public activation window that offered immersive experiences, including brand ambassadors and unique photo ops. To kick off the public activation, Negro Leagues Baseball Museum President Bob Kendrick and former MLB player and artist Micah Johnson led Kansas City Royals MLB Urban Youth Academy athletes and media through a tour of the museum before walking to nearby Buck O’Neil Tribute Park for the special unveiling.

Sango Expands His Sound On New Album “North Vol. 2”

Sango has different sides to his artistry. There’s the Da Rocinha series, which is largely tropical (and instrumental), there’s the tapes where he produces for another artist, and then there’s the North series, where he combines both into a singular statement. North Vol. 1 blended Sango’s instrumental prowess with a talented roster of rappers and singers. North Vol. 2 follows suit, while adding some sonic twists. These twists keep the album sounding fresh, albeit wholly familiar.

Sango’s usual roster of collaborators is here, and they deliver. Xavier Omar sounds great over the bouncy and surprisingly gritty instrumental for “The Lake.” The same goes for Smino, who manages to stay atop the busy samba shuffle of “Ice Storm.” The chemistry is predictably excellent on these songs, but it’s the new collabs that make North Vol. 2 stand out, for better or worse.

A Sango and Channel Tres collab could have gone lots of different ways, but the mood they settle on; jazzy and wistful, with Channel Tres’ usual spoken word, makes “Spaceship” one of the best songs on the album. Also worth checking out is Sango and GoldLink’s “Peace,” which strikes a perfect balance between the former’s solo work and GoldLink’s weirder impulses. The song would slot in perfectly on Link’s 2019 album, Diaspora.

Sango Experiments To Varying Degrees Of Success

Unfortunately, not every collaboration goes over perfectly. “Masego’s Interlude” never really gets off the ground, despite the nice harmony vocals from the titular singer. “Lost Intro (Sango’s Version)” is another missed opportunity. Sango tries to hard to fit Bryson Tiller’s signature sound, and the result is a generic Tiller song rather than something new. North Vol. 2 isn’t perfect, but there are more than enough high points to warrant a listen.

What are your thoughts on this brand-new album North Vol. 2 by Sango? Is it an improvement over the first installment? What is the best song? Is there a feature artist who steals the show? We would like to hear what you have to say, so be sure to leave your takes in the comments section. Additionally, always keep it locked in with HNHH for all of the latest news surrounding Sango. Drake Shouts Out Octavian After Singer Samples “Chicago Freestyle”

Drake loves to co-sign international artists. He’s always singing along to their music, or tagging them on social media. Some of these co-signs lead to collabs, others merely boost the profile of the artist who’s mentioned. Octavian falls in the latter camp. The French-British rapper has been getting love from the Toronto superstar since 2018, when the latter was seen rapping to his song at a Golden Globes party. Octavian has continued to grind since then, but it appears as though Drake is still a fan.

Drake posted a clip from Octavian’s new single, “I See You,” on his May 23 Instagram Stories. The song has been getting attention online, and once you hear it, you’ll understand why Drizzy likes it. “I See You” contains a recognizable sample of Drake’s 2020 song “Chicago Freestyle.” The sample is looped under the verses, but the Giveon chorus from the original really comes through on Octavian’s hook. It’s a cool choice for a sample, as it’s developed a reputation for being one of Drake’s most underrated songs.

Drake Is A Huge Fan Of Octavian’s Single “I See You”

Octavian took advantage of the shout-out and posted a screenshot of Drake’s IG Story on his own account. He simply tagged him @champagnepapi with a sword and black heart emoji. Octavian lucked out in terms of timing, as Drake has more eyes on him than ever these days. The world was waiting to see how the 6 God would respond to losing the Kendrick Lamar battle. The answer, it appears, is to act like it doesn’t bother him. Drake popped up at a WNBA game the week of May 19. He also dropped his first new verse since the K. Dot battle ended.

In an attempt to make light of the battle, Drake appeared on the Sexxy Red single “U My Everything.” He rapped over the “BBL Drizzy” beat that went viral, and flipped the meaning of Metro Boomin’s version to suggest that he can link girls up with a BBL if they want one. The new single is going to do impressive numbers. That said, it wasn’t received as well as Drake might have hoped.

Zacari Continues To Shine On Sultry New Single “Lonewolf Still”

Zacari is the secret weapon of Top Dawg Entertainment. He always crushes his guest verses, and sometimes he lends soulfulness to album cuts he’s not even credited on. His best known feature is still Kendrick Lamar’s “LOVE,” but the singer has shined equally bright on albums by Ab-Soul and TDE as a whole (Black Panther soundtrack). Zacari has yet to drop a solo release, though, and the desire to hear one grows increasingly higher with each new single he puts out. “Lonewolf Still” keeps this desire sky high.

“Lonewolf Still” is Zacari’s second single of 2024. He went the off-kilter acoustic route on “Ocean,” but “Lonewolf Still” sees him veer back into his sultry, R&B sweet spot. It works. The production is spacey in ways we previously haven’t heard from Zacari tracks. It’s reminiscent of blackbear, or perhaps even the weirder side of Post Malone. It’s a welcome change, given that some of Zacari’s earlier singles suffered from nondescript beat selection. “Lonewolf Still” brings all of the atmosphere one could hope for, given the evocative title and album cover.

Zacari Embraces A Darker, More Textured Sound

The lyrics follow suit. “Thunderstorms let me know God is watching over. Ain’t afraid of death as much as I’m afraid of comfort,” Zacari croons. “Leave me ‘lone, you know I been plottin’ on a come up. And I don’t wanna see that girl unless she wanna comе f*ck.” It’s melodramatic on a certain level, but it sounds epic given the textured musical accompaniment. The hope is that “Lonewolf Still” serves as the introduction to Zacari’s debut album. He’s upped his solo game since the late 2010s, and it sounds like’s ready to step off the bench.

What are your thoughts on this new song, “Lonewolf Still” by Zacari? Is this his best single yet? Do you want to hear a solo album in 2024? Who do you want the singer to collab with? We would like to hear what you have to say, so be sure to leave your takes in the comments section. Additionally, always keep it locked in with HNHH for all of the latest news surrounding Zacari.
