Tierra Whack is back. While seemingly half of the women in rap are busy chucking insults at one another lately, the former Philly battle MC is floating over all of it as she preps for the release of her debut album, World Wide Whack. After sharing the “Chanel Pit” video back in November, Whack follows up today with the video for “Shower Song.”
Although it’s a crowded release day, fans of innovative, left-of-center hip-hop should allow themselves to overlook “Shower Song.” The video, directed by Alex Da Corte, is a typical avant-garde Whack affair, with cartoony, pop art-influenced imagery blending stop motion animation, high fashion, and colorful sets that perfectly complement Whack’s playful delivery and the funky, uptempo beat. As far as the content goes, no, there are no acid-tongued jabs at any of her peers; in fact, it’s pretty mundane subject matter for a modern rap song.
Whack’s only boast here is that she sounds great singing in the shower while getting ready to start her day. The only brand she flexes is Dove soap. It’s kind of refreshing and it’s a cheeky, sly reminder that hip-hop is what we make it. It doesn’t have to be about street shootouts, drug sales, and traumatic relationships. It can be fun and bright and kind of silly and just about the regular stuff we all do every day. There’s room for more. Bravo to Tierra Whack for opening up the sonic palette and once again pushing boundaries — even if they aren’t the boundaries anyone expected to be pushed.

Drake’s commercial success isn’t even surprising to most people anymore. He’s racked up nearly unrivaled success across streaming platforms and various Billboard charts. For more than a decade now he’s been one of the biggest stars in music. So it’s no surprise that in 2023 he was one of the most-listened to artists in almost every country in the world. That included the US where he dropped a number one album on the Billboard 200 with For All The Dogs. That album included numerous smash hit singles like “Slime You Out,” “First Person Shooter,” “Rich Baby Daddy,” and “IDGAF.”
When all of the numbers were tallied up Drake turned up as the second best-selling artist in the US in 2023. He totaled an astounding 10 million total units across streaming, radio, and album purchases. Unsurprisingly, he’s second to the other biggest star in music Taylor Swift. Drake Tops 10 Million Total Album Sales
In recent weeks, Drake has been dealing with a strange beef with Yasiin Bey, former known as Mos Def. During a podcast appearance Bey was asked about Drizzy’s music. He responded claiming that the music he makes is closer to pop than rap. It started quite a firestorm online as fans debated the merit of pop rap. Some other artists like NLE Choppa and Common came to his defense in the wake of the comments.
Eventually Drake himself responded. First he shared an interview snippet of Method Man talking about how hip-hop is for the culture. Then he followed up with a more direct attack calling Bey a “crackhead.” Fan backlash against Bey got even more intense after a video of him performing at Paris Fashion Week made the rounds online. Earthquake Addresses Katt Williams’ Illiteracy Accusations On “The Breakfast Club”
At the beginning of this month, Katt Williams made waves with his viral appearance on Club Shay Shay. During the interview, he took aim at several of his peers, including Kevin Hart, Rickey Smiley, Cedric The Entertainer, and more. One fellow comic he mentioned was Earthquake, and he had mostly complimentary things to say about him. While he did note that Earthquake is undeniably funny, he accused the D.C. native of being illiterate.
“‘Why Earthquake not in movies?’ Cuz he’s illiterate,” Williams told Shannon Sharpe. “He can’t read. And they found that out when they gave him a show and then put the cards in front of him.” Later on in the interview, he praised him for his ability to make others laugh. “I don’t think anybody’s ever said Quake not funny. He’s probably never been booed, I don’t think. I don’t think he’s ever given a bad performance in his life.”

Earthquake Insists He Can Read
During a recent appearance on The Breakfast Club, Earthquake decided to clear things up. According to him, he appreciates Williams’ compliments, but can definitely read. He also notes that he’s proven this time and time again throughout his decades-long career. As for what Williams’ Club Shay Shay appearance did for Black comedy as a whole, Earthquake says nothing. “Comedy I don’t think [it did] anything, cuz there’s wasn’t no jokes in it,” he explained. “I’m in the joke-telling business, you know what I mean? So, it didn’t do anything I think for comedy.” He continued, describing how Williams’ apparent shade towards him came out of left field.
“Personally speaking, me and him was cool, so I didn’t know where that came from. Certain things he said about me, half was true half was a lie. But, to each his own,” he said. Ben Shapiro is a conservative pundit who has certainly made his feelings about hip-hop clear. In his mind, it is not real music. Overall, it is an idiot take. However, it is one that is not rare in conservative circles. It is pretty easy to read between the lines and understand why they feel this way. Regardless, it is pretty pathetic, to say the least. Regardless, there is a certain piece of kryptonite for the conservative pundit and that is the white conservative rapper. Forgiato Blow, Tom Macdonald, and even Vanilla Ice (these days at least) fall into this category.
The MAGA rap phenomenon is one that has risen to prominence over the last few years. However, it really came to fruition in the midst of COVID-19 and the Black Lives Matter protests in 2020. It is here where the Macdonald’s of the world soared to popularity amongst Trump supporters. Even Shapiro can’t contain himself from the grift. On Friday, he featured on the new Macdonald song “Facts.” If you thought he was just going to lend his voice as an interlude of sorts, you would be wrong. Instead, he actually delivered a real verse.

As you can see up above, this verse is pretty atrocious. He sounds like an AI version of himself. Furthermore, there is a certain cadence that can only be described as Epic Rap Battles Of History-core. Perhaps the most notable part of the entire song is the fact that he disses Nicki Minaj on it. This is certainly interesting timing given the fact that Nicki got dissed by Megan Thee Stallion recently. Shapiro and Nicki have gone at it in the past, so no surprises here. Regardless, this has to be one of the worst verses ever recorded.

Pharrell Williams Announces Film About His Life Made With Legos
Pharrell Williams is about as versatile of a creative force as anybody. It’s rare that any celebrity has the reach and scope of ambition that he does and it extends to numerous different mediums. He’s obviously made is musically in a variety of lanes. After getting his start as a producer in The Neptunes he’s also released music of his own both as a solo artist and with his band N.E.R.D. But his reach also extends into the world of fashion. Following the tragic death of Virgil Abloh, Pharrell was named head of menswear at Louis Vuitton. His reach has also extended into film. He’s made a number of songs that appear on film soundtracks and even composed a few entire scores for movies. That’s in addition to cameo appearances and voice roles he’s made.
But now he’s reaching into the world of film in a brand new way. Earlier today Pharrell announced a new movie telling the story of his life using Lego. The film is called Piece By Piece and promises “an unparalleled motion picture experience that captures the magic and brilliance of Pharrell Williams’ creative genius, one Lego brick at a time.” The film will be directed by Morgan Neville whose handled critically acclaimed documentaries like 20 Feet From Stardom and Won’t You Be My Neighbor?. Pharrell’s Lego Life Story
Pharrel has had a pretty busy 2024 so far. This past week he put on yet another Louis Vuitton runway show for Paris Fashion Week.
