Who Will Win And Who Should Win At The 2024 Grammy Awards

The 2024 Grammy Awards are just around the corner, and much like previous iterations of the annual ceremony, there likely won’t be a shortage of show-stopping performances. But above all, fans are hoping to see if their favorite artists’ hard work will pay off with a win, and the chance to take home their own golden gramophone trophies as they secure their spot in music history.

When it comes to the Grammys in particular, half of the fun is trying to understand the voting criteria, which remains elusive from year to year. While music journalists are just as in the dark as average music fans about who gets to win a Grammy, nerding out over this stuff is what we do best. (Though we’re aware that we may end up dropping some potentially controversial viewpoints, thus testing the pressure cooker that is the internet in the process.)

In anticipation of the big night, this music journalist is taking a look at 10 stacked nomination pools, and will distinguish which artists probably will win, and who probably should win that coveted Grammy gold. (But please, go easy on me if you don’t agree!)

Best Pop Dance Recording

“Baby Don’t Hurt Me,” David Guetta, Anne-Marie and Coi Leray
“Miracle,” Calvin Harris featuring Ellie Goulding
“Padam Padam,” Kylie Minogue
“One in a Million,” Bebe Rexha & David Guetta
“Rush,” Troye Sivan

Will win: “Padam Padam”
Should Win: “Padam Padam”

“Padam Padam” is Kylie Minogue’s first single in two years, and with its infectious dance-pop sound, energetic synths, and sweet, sticky chorus, it was almost guaranteed to be a hit. To create a song that penetrates the pop landscape, social media, and the LGBTQ+ community this deep into her decades-long career proves Minogue’s affinity for hit-making. A win in this inaugural category would be justified and incredibly appropriate.

Best African Music Performance

“Amapiano,” Asake and Olamide
“City Boys,” Burna Boy
“Unavailable,” Davido featuring Musa Keys
“Rush,” Ayra Starr
“Water,” Tyla

Will Win: “Water”
Should Win: “Unavailable”

A win by any of these artists would be a win for the culture, Africa, and Afrobeats, which continues to be overlooked by the Recording Academy in all-genre categories despite its influence. This is the first time this award will be presented, though few can deny the impact this style has made to the sonic landscape of modern-day music as a whole.

“Unavailable” in particular became the first song by a Nigerian act to hit 100 million streams on Spotify in 2023. This achievement is merely a footnote for Davido when observing the larger picture of his success and musical contributions, achieved through his artistic and cultural integrity. A Davido win would be incredibly overdue, but Afrobeats’ oft-omitted importance places all nominated acts in a deserving light.

Best Rap Song

“Attention,” Doja Cat
“Barbie World,” Nicki Minaj & Ice Spice ft. Aqua
“Just Wanna Rock,” Lil Uzi Vert
“Rich Flex,” Drake & 21 Savage
“Scientists & Engineers,” Killer Mike and André 3000 feat. Future and Eryn Allen Kane

Will win: “Barbie World”
Should win: “Scientists & Engineers”

Women have (rightfully) been running the hip-hop game for the better part of the last few years. A win by either the Queen of Rap and the new pop-rap princess—or even rap’s resident chameleon Doja Cat—would be a welcome, tide-shifting moment for the macho genre.

However, in “Scientists & Engineers,” one of rap’s most respected voices Killer Mike shines through conscientious bars, while Future’s undeniable flow showcases why he’s one of the biggest names in contemporary music. Elsewhere in this link-up for the ages, fellow ‘Dungeon Family’ member André 3000 provides what very well could be his final rap verse on wax. “Scientists & Engineers” carries attributes that continue to stand the test of time in hip-hop: authentic rhymes, rhythm, and collaboration.

Best R&B Song

“ICU,” Coco Jones
“Angel,” Halle
“Back to Love,” Robert Glasper ft. SiR & Alex Isley
“Snooze,” SZA
“On My Mama,” Victoria Monét

Will win: “Snooze”
Should win: “ICU”

As one of the highlights on an album full of highlights, the smoothness and soothing vibes found in SZA’s “Snooze” would cap off an incredible year for the Jersey girl.

Though in her breakout single “ICU,” Coco Jones’ lower register and unbelievably velvety vocals display that the hallmarks of R&B live on in our newest stars. A win in this category for Jones would solidify her place among one of the brightest lights in the genre today, and would bring a happy ending the former Disney darling’s Cinderella story.

Alternative Music Album

The Car, Arctic Monkeys
The Record, Boygenius
Did You Know That There’s a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd, Lana Del Rey
Cracker Island, Gorillaz
I Inside the Old Year Dying, PJ Harvey

Who will win: The Record
Who should win: The Record

The debut studio LP from the supergroup (comprised of Julien Baker, Lucy Dacus, and Phoebe Bridgers) is crafted in a way that showcases each member’s individual strengths, but also proves the power of collaboration and teamwork. Their long-awaited link-up remains modern while still evoking the sounds and styles that inspire them, from rock to folk. Christened the best album of 2023 in UPROXX’s Music Critics Poll, this is virtually a no-brainer.

Record of the Year (awarded to the song itself)

“Worship,” Jon Batiste
“Not Strong Enough,” Boygenius
“Flowers,” Miley Cyrus
“What Was I Made For?” from “Barbie,” Billie Eilish
“On My Mama,” Victoria Monét
“Vampire,” Olivia Rodrigo
“Anti-Hero,” Taylor Swift
“Kill Bill,” SZA

Who will win: “Kill Bill”
Who should win: “Flowers”

“Kill Bill” spins the idea of breakup anthems on its head through thematics and sonics that slay. However, what gives “Flowers” the edge is the commercial and personal triumphs on top of its thematics. The funky, rockin’ self-love anthem feels like a cathartic return to form for the musical shapeshifter, whose personal life has undergone as many changes as her sonic identity.

Unlike her previous pop efforts like “Malibu” and “Prisoner,” which felt forced in some respects, “Flowers” found the superstar and the audience meeting at the right place and time. The song brings a sophisticated, confident maturity, and for the first time in a long time, it truly felt like Miley was just being Miley.

Song of the Year (awarded to the songwriter/songwriters)

“A&W” — Jack Antonoff, Lana Del Rey & Sam Dew, songwriters (Lana Del Rey)
“Anti-Hero” — Jack Antonoff & Taylor Swift, songwriters (Taylor Swift)
“Butterfly” — Jon Batiste & Dan Wilson, songwriters (Jon Batiste)
“Dance the Night” (From “Barbie the Album”) — Caroline Ailin, Dua Lipa, Mark Ronson & Andrew Wyatt, songwriters (Dua Lipa)
“Flowers” — Miley Cyrus, Gregory Aldae Hein & Michael Pollack, songwriters (Miley Cyrus)
“Kill Bill” — Rob Bisel, Carter Lang & Solána Rowe, songwriters (SZA)
“Vampire” — Daniel Nigro & Olivia Rodrigo, songwriters (Oliva Rodrigo)
“What Was I Made For?” [From the Motion Picture “Barbie”] — Billie Eilish O’Connell & Finneas O’Connell, songwriters (Billie Eilish)

Who will win: “Anti-Hero”
Who should win: “What Was I Made For?”

“Anti-Hero” marks the seventh time Taylor Swift has been nominated in this category, now a Grammy record. The single serves as the pulse of her LP, has been virtually inescapable for over a year, and shows the depth of her pen and personal glossary. A T.S. win in this category would amplify the Grammy’s love of “making moments” at the ceremony.

However, the perfect, tear-jerking placement of “What Was I Made For?” in Barbie solidifies the power of Billie Eilish and brother Finneas’ lyrical simplicity. The (future Oscar-winning) song showcases what we love about Billie’s more subdued tracks: the palpable optimism underneath surface-level melancholia — which is befitting of the film’s underlying theme — as well as the general feelings of modern-day womanhood.

Best New Artist

Gracie Abrams
Fred Again..
Ice Spice
Jelly Roll
Coco Jones
Noah Kahan
Victoria Monét

Who will win: Ice Spice
Who should win: Victoria Monét

High-profile friendships, a masterful social media pull, and even a Chia Pet made in her likeness — it would seem as though Ice Spice would be the clear-cut favorite to win. High honors here would crown the Bronx artist as the third woman rapper in history to win Best New Artist, which could be a controversial bestowment amongst rap purists who deem Ice to be “too pop.”

But when was the last time we had a true blue triple threat in our midst? Victoria Monét has been under our noses the entire time. Her incredible stage presence, deeply quotable lyrics, and overall star power make her the full package, and a win of this magnitude would be worth the wait. Noah Kahan would also be a great choice, as his musicianship has steadily earned a following amongst both fans and artists alike.

Album of the Year

World Music Radio, Jon Batiste
The Record, Boygenius
Endless Summer Vacation, Miley Cyrus
Did You Know That There’s a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd, Lana Del Rey
The Age of Pleasure, Janelle Monáe
Guts, Olivia Rodrigo
Midnights, Taylor Swift
SOS, SZA

Who will win: Midnights
Who should: SOS

As mentioned earlier, the Grammys love “making moments.” Taylor Swift is far and away the biggest name in contemporary music, and a win in this category will provide the moment. If honored with the biggest award of the night, Taylor could surpass Stevie Wonder, Paul Simon, and Frank Sinatra for the most Album of the Year wins by any artist in history. However, some could argue that — though thematically sound — Midnights is not a career high. Although a win would be the cherry on top of her banner year, star power and fanfare don’t always warrant an automatic win.

SOS on the other hand, is a true career high for SZA, solidifying her status as thee reigning R&B superstar. It was her first No. 1 album, it nabbed the biggest streaming figures for an R&B album in U.S. history, and it’s the longest-running No. 1 album by a woman in this decade. A much-deserved win in this category would also create a “moment”: SZA would be the first Black woman since Lauryn Hill in 1999 to win Album of the Year, and only the fourth ever after Natalie Cole, Whitney Houston, and Hill. The personal triumphs, coupled with the album’s successes, will feel like a win for all.

Wack 100, Offset & 42 Dugg Bicker Over Stories About The Rappers’ Fight & Beef

According to Wack 100, Offset and 42 Dugg once got into a scuffle that resulted in the former robbing the latter. Although there are many other sides to this story and plenty of denials and corrections, we’re already seeing the narrative clear up thanks to all of their recent words on the matter. Well, to be specific, all of this is due to Wack, who posted alleged direct messages with both Dugg and ‘Set on Instagram on Sunday (January 28). In these messages, we see that the two MCs, from Detroit and from Georgia respectively, are calling cap on each others’ version of events, although this doesn’t seem like it’ll evolve into rap beef per se.

First, Offset’s side. He called cap on 42 Dugg denying that he robbed him, and Wack 100 elaborated with some alleged details. “@akademiks You know I clap back ..” Wack captioned the post. “@42_dugggg Wasn’t robbed I made sure that didn’t happen. He’s only guilty of getting hit in his mouth & not fighting back. Other than that he’s a rappers gangsta [shrug emoji] I mean who ever labels 42 as a fighter. Lil guy feet do want eve touch the floor when he takes a Sh!t.”

Wack 100 Posts DMs With Offset

Beforehand, alleged Instagram DMs between 42 Dugg and Wack 100 leaked, and we don’t know who was behind it. “Wack we both know I wouldn’t [have] left if ah n***a took something from me,” the Detroit rapper expressed. “I’ll clean it up and won’t speak on it again,” Wack responded, and it’s unclear whose “side” he’s really on. “He tried, you didn’t lose nothing, I woulda got it back if they did take it you know that.”

42 Dugg Messages Leak

Meanwhile, it was at least heartening to see that Dugg enjoyed his homecoming concert in his city following his prison stint without dealing too much with this drama. He invited Yo Gotti, Lil Durk, GloRilla, and so many more to perform with him. We’ll see if any of these figures have anything else to say about this supposed fight. KenBarbie Slams Nicki Minaj For Dissing Her On New Track, “Big Foot”

KenBarbie fired back at Nicki Minaj on Twitter, early Monday, after the rapper dissed them on her new song, “Big Foot.” While the track was primarily a diss aimed at Megan Thee Stallion, KenBarbie caught a stray with the bar: “If you don’t apologize to your mama in 24 hours. Sh*t’s gonna get uglier than KenBarbie, okay? Don’t play.”

In response, the blogger wrote: “Nicki how are you going to buy anyone’s catalog when you got liens on your publishing and your tour deal? You blew your advance from your last tour and now this tour is collateral, so you’re literally bout to tour for free cause you owe Uncle Sam money.” From there, KenBarbie appeared to reference Minaj’s husband, Kenneth Petty, who is a registered sex offender.

“That man is keeping you all drugged up and mixing your coke wit horse tranquilizers and Ozempic so he can make you more stupid while taking your money and letting you look crazy. YOU HAVE TO BUY LOVE,” they continued, “You have no room to judge anybody on anything, You have no friends (hence why they got you out here looking like a complete maniac while they ‘yesss queen!’ you to death just to keep their brownie points and your nasty ego under control) your brothers are pedophiles, your real dad is [a] drug addict like you, and your lil sister is living in the projects.”

KenBarbie Responds To Nicki Minaj

KenBarbie concluded: “You might be ‘Nicki Minaj’ on the surface but deep down inside you’re that hurt lil girl that your mom abandoned in Trinidad till you was five and that’s why you hate her, you want to [talk] about apologizing to mothers like you didn’t hit your own mom and as it came out your own mouth you still haven’t forgiven her… Muah no family, no friends [face blowing a kiss] just coke.” The feud between Minaj and Megan flared up when the latter referenced Kenneth Petty on the song, “Hiss.” Be on the lookout for further updates on Nicki Minaj on HotNewHipHop.

A History Of Eminem’s Most Vicious Lyrics

This past week, Eminem re-ignited his 22-year beef with Benzino on “Doomsday Pt. 2” from Lyrical Lemonade’s All Is Yellow. He also mentioned the former Source Magazine co-owner’s daughter, Coi Leray on the track, who later responded to Em’s lyrics on Twitter. Coi wrote, “There’s no way I’m about to entertain these grown ass men and the beef they been having for over 20 years. Lmao it’s so stupid, all I can do is laugh.” Throughout his career, Eminem has been notorious for engaging in beef, sending fiery diss tracks and stray shots at anyone who slights him. His competitive spirit contributed to his ascent as a rapper and still permeates his music today. Today, we are looking into the history of Eminem’s most vicious disses, including particular lines and entire songs. Take a look at the list below.

Read More: Breaking Down Eminem & Melle Mel’s Beef

“Just Don’t Give A F*ck” (1998)

Eminem’s debut single saw the birth of his Slim Shady alter ego, as well as numerous rap beefs. His second verse on “Just Don’t Give a Fuck” targets multiple white rappers, dissing them in just a few bars. He raps, “I’m nicer than Pete, but I’m on a search to crush a milkbone / I’m everlastin’, I melt vanilla ice like silicone/ I’m ill enough to just straight up diss you for no reason/ I’m colder than snow season when it’s twenty below freezin’.” Eminem cleverly incorporated the names of Miilkbone and Vanilla Ice into cold-blooded punchlines while praising Pete Nice, MC Serch, and Everlast. Before he would beef with the latter, his jabs at Miilkbone and Vanilla Ice on this song led to exchanges of multiple diss tracks.

“Nail In The Coffin” (2002)

One of four diss tracks from Eminem’s feud with Benzino back in 2002, “Nail In The Coffin” was a vicious response to “Pull Your Skirt Up.” The entire song is quite cutthroat, but here are his most scathing bars: “You sit behind a fuckin’ desk at The Source butt-kissin’ / And beggin’ motherfuckers for guest appearances / And you can’t even get the clearances ’cause real lyricists don’t even respect you or take you serious/ It’s not that we don’t like you—we hate you, period.” Though Eminem recently took shots at Benzino, this song spoke true to its title during their beef back in the day.

“Bully” (2003)

“Bully” not only fires at Benzino but also at Ja Rule, with whom Eminem was also beefing during the early 2000s. Released during the peak of their feud, Em spits an aggressive diss towards Ja and Murder Inc. In his third verse, he raps, “If Irv really gave a fuck about Ja, like he claims he does / He’d wake him up and make his boy get off them drugs / But he just keeps feedin’ him pills, so if that E doesn’t kill him / Someone from G-Unit will, and I ain’t buzzed.” Eminem backs 50 Cent, who was also aiming disses at Ja Rule. As one of his meanest disses, he declares that he will not back down and “cower to no bully.”

“The Warning” (2009)

Eminem’s tension with Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon is one of his most bizarre feuds, but we got a relentless diss track out of it. “The Warning” responds to Carey’s “Obsessed” song and video, which stems from lyrics on “Bagpipes From Baghdad” and The Eminem Show about the singer. He fires at both Cannon and Carey: “You’re gonna ruin my career, you better get one / Like I’ma sit and fight with you over some slut bitch cunt that made me put up with her psycho ass over six months / And only spread her legs to let me hit once.” A harsh diss, “The Warning” certainly contains some of Eminem’s most disrespectful diss bars.

“Fall” (2018)

Eminem’s 2018 album, Kamikaze took digs at his critics, mumble rappers, and others who have spoken ill of him. Songs like “Fall” respond to his critics, including Pitchfork, Akademiks, Charlamagne tha God, Tyler, The Creator, and Lord Jamar. Most notably, he disses his former Shady Records signee and Slaughterhouse member Joe Budden. “Somebody tell Budden before I snap, he better fasten it or have his body bag get zipped/ The closest thing he’s had to hits is smackin’ bitches (Pump it up!),” he raps. Eminem makes light of Joe’s alleged domestic abuse after Budden heavily criticized Revival on Everyday Struggle. Joe Budden responded on his podcast, claiming to have been a better rapper than Eminem for “this entire decade.”

“Killshot” (2018)

Also on Kamikaze was “Not Alike” where Eminem directly attacked Machine Gun Kelly, which resulted in MGK’s “Rap Devil” diss. In response to the track came “Killshot.” The lethal diss track references the 2008 film in which a man named Colson, MGK’s government name, is targeted by a hitman. The song is riddled with vicious lyrics, including “Younger me? No, you the wack me, it’s funny but so true / I’d rather be 80-year-old me than 20-year-old you” and “as long as I’m Shady he’s gon’ have to live in my shadow.” Eminem also warns MGK: “Kelly, they’ll be putting your name next to Ja, next to Benzino—die, motherfucker! / Like the last motherfucker sayin’ Hailie in vain.” “Killshot” proved once again that one cannot mess with Eminem on a song without consequence.

“I Will” (2020)

“I Will” saw a mini Slaughterhouse reunion without Joe Budden. In the song, Eminem pays respects to his favorite rappers while also poking fun at Lord Jamar. The two have exchanged disses and words outside of music, but “I Will” was Eminem’s most brutal diss against him to date. He raps, “I’m more than you bargained for and I am far more worse than a forty-some bar Lord Jamar verse.”

Eminem responds to Lord Jamar calling him a “guest in the house of hip hop” and calls him the worst rapper in Brand Nubian: “If it was anyone’s house, G Rap and Rakim would be havin’ you mop floors / Run-DMC would be havin’ you cleanin’ sinks / Yeah, your group was off the chain, but you were the weakest link.” Over the span of his career, Eminem has come out victorious in his rap beefs by spitting lethal bars. With his latest verse against Benzino, it still holds true no matter how petty it might come across.

Megan Thee Stallion Receives Glowing Praise From High School Peers, Yearbook Reveals She Was “Sophomore Class Favorite”

Megan Thee Stallion has been a fixture of the news cycle over the past few days. Overall, a lot of this has to do with the fact that she unleashed a diss track on Nicki Minaj. The song “Hiss” was not a direct diss, however, there were certainly bars thrown Nicki’s way. Subsequently, Nicki has been going on a plethora of Twitter rants against Meg. On Monday morning, she even dropped “Big Foot” which is meant to be the official response. Unfortunately for Nicki, it is not working too well.

This new song has been hit with a lot of criticism from fans. Some are even saying that Nicki is washed. Others have brought up the Safaree ghostwriting allegations. Needless to say, things are not going too well for the “Queen Of Rap.” In fact, many have taken to social media to defend Meg. Even her high school classmates are getting involved. Below, you can see how one person spoke about Meg’s reputation at her high school. She even shared a Yearbook photo that dubbed her “sophomore class favorite.”

Megan Thee Stallion Is The People’s Champ

“I didn’t know her personally when we were in HS but I knew enough OF her to know she was NICE to everyone!” the Twitter user wrote. “Like nice enough to get voted class favorite not once but TWICE in our yearbooks. She was in a lot of social clubs bc she’s a LIKABLE person. I won’t let y’all lie abt Meg.” Based on this glowing seal of approval, it is clear that Meg was a good person throughout her life. Overall, it can be easy to be a bad person on your way to the top. However, it seems like Meg has always been down-to-earth and well-liked.

Charlamagne Tha God Thinks Nicki Minaj’s “Big Foot” Diss Track Was Disappointing

Like most rap fans out there, Charlamagne The God was really looking forward to Nicki Miinaj’s new diss track against Megan Thee Stallion, “Big Foot.” However, taking to The Breakfast Club on Friday morning (January 29), he wasn’t really feeling it, lamenting a lack of fresh bars and unnecessary shots against the Houston MC. “This ain’t it, Nicki. Okay? I don’t know who Nicki got around her, but there is absolutely no reason that should’ve left the studio,” the entrepreneur began. “I’m glad Nicki decided to finally rap and not just tweet, but no. That ain’t it.

“‘Cause Megan put out [her] song Thursday night at midnight, right?” Charlamagne Tha God continued about Nicki Minaj. “For the next 72 hours, all weekend, Nicki just has been talking about her on social media. And a lot of the bars that may have made me been like, ‘Oh, shoot,’ she already tweeted about! You know, she tweeted the ‘Megan’s Law, Megan raw’ line on Twitter. Slick line, but once I heard it in the song, already saw it on social media. So it ain’t hit the same.

Charlamagne Tha God Speaks On Nicki Minaj’s “Big Foot”: Watch

“The ‘Big foot’ line on IG Live didn’t hit the same, because I heard it on IG Live,” Charlamagne added of Nicki Minaj’s diss track. “And I know we say all is fair in love and rap battles, but man, hearing Nicki keep talking about Megan’s deceased mother, that ain’t it, man. I was born in 1978. If you had asked me this question 20 years ago, I would’ve probably said, ‘Nah! All is fair and love and hip-hop!’

“And I still kind of feel like that to a certain extent,” he concluded. “[Biggie and Tupac] are terrible examples. Hov apologized, said he went too far, and I’m sure Nas looks back on ‘Ether’ sometimes like, ‘Okay, I shouldn’t have said that.’ We’re approaching this from a grown level. I just don’t see the need to bring in somebody’s deceased mother. Like I said, I can’t say it’s not fair. I’m just speaking from a human perspective. From a human level, I don’t agree with that.” For more news and the latest updates on Nicki Minaj and Charlamagne Tha God, come back to HNHH.

Why YFN Lucci Was Sentenced To 20 Years In Prison?

YFN Lucci is the Atlanta artist behind such hits as 2016’s “Key To The Streets” with Migos and Trouble, as well as the 2017 single “Everyday We Lit” featuring PnB Rock. Unfortunately, the rapper’s current notoriety stems more from legal controversies than his prolific music career. Since authorities indicted him in 2021, he has been contending with a series of RICO charges, adding complexity to his legal predicament. The rapper, whose real name is Rayshawn Bennett, recently pleaded guilty to racketeering charges, incurring a 20-year prison sentence. Here’s all we know about the situation thus far.

Lucci Turned Himself In Back In 2021

YFN Lucci initially surrendered himself after authorities issued a warrant for his arrest in connection with a shooting murder in Atlanta. A key detail in the case places Lucci in a vehicle associated with the murder. Since then, he has remained in jail awaiting trial, as the District Attorney continued to cement a racketeering case against him. Prosecutors have since alleged that Lucci’s music outfit YFN is closely associated with a faction of the Bloods gang, and have been involved in numerous crimes.

As the trial continued into 2024, Lucci was facing 13 felony charges, each carrying with them heavy minimum sentences. The rapper was among many suspects indicted by Fulton County officers on a RICO case which spawned over 88 pages of legalese and a 56-count grand jury.

The YFN Case: Sweeping Indictments In Fulton County

YFN Lucci was first arrested on the RICO indictment in May 2021. Since then, the Fulton County district attorney worked diligently to build a case against Lucci and his associates with interconnected charges including aggravated assault, murder, and a host of other gang-related activities.

The District Attorney’s office, presently prosecuting a trial against Young Thug and his YSL associates, alleges the music outfit’s involvement in real-life gang activity. In both the YSL and YFN Lucci cases, prosecutors have entered song lyrics as evidence, aiming to use the rhetoric about crime within the tracks as confessions to the charges. These cases are on track to set an incredibly dangerous precedent in the United States court system, as the use of song lyrics, which are often fictional or metaphorical, is arguably a violation of freedom of speech and artistic expression.

YFN And YSL Famously Have Bad Blood

The two alleged gang outfits have made no secret of their beef with one another, which includes alleged incidents of violence on both the streets and prisons of Atlanta. Many fans assumed during the YFN trial that the District Attorney would press Lucci to take the stand against Young Thug and company, citing a popular theory that suggests Thug may have arranged a jail stabbing on the rapper. Despite this, Lucci refused to participate in the YSL trial in any capacity, cementing the rappers’ down-to-earth legacy in the eyes of many fans.

YFN Lucci Has Plead Guilty To The Charges

Unlike Young Thug, who is voraciously fighting against the court system, YFN Lucci has taken a guilty plea for a sentence of 20 years. Apparently the YFN artist reached the plea deal during the jury selection last week. The court has accepted time served as credit toward the sentence, which includes 10 years in federal custody and 10 more on probation. Per parole eligibility rules in the county, the rapper could theoretically be considered for release in under four months. Two unnamed YFN associates also took similar plea deals alongside the YFN Lucci trial.

The plea deal allowed Lucci to have 12 of the 13 charges brought against him dismissed entirely, including all counts of racketeering. According to his lawyers, the rapper has pleaded guilty to a single charge, specifically in violation of the Street Gang Terrorism and Prevention Act, enacted in 1998. Lucci managed to escape one of the counts linked to a 2020 shooting death. If found guilty, Lucci could have faced a life sentence for the charge in question.

Nicki Minaj’s “Big Foot” Name Drops Lupe Fiasco, His Reaction Is Priceless

The Nicki Minaj and Megan Thee Stallion beef are continuing to reach new heights. Everyone from fans to rappers, and social media pundits are weighing on “Big Foot.” It is seemingly trending everywhere, especially on Twitter (X). For the most part, the music community is not feeling the track because they feel it was “rushed” and career-ruining. Nicki felt the need to drop the diss as soon as possible after Megan Thee Stallion put out “HISS,” hence why some have this belief.

In addition, like Ebro, some have the opinion that is all for marketing and is just a way to get the fans engaged. Chicago MC Lupe Fiasco is certainly one of those people enjoying all of this unfolding from the sidelines. If you have heard Nicki’s lyrical attack, you would know that there were a few other rappers who received some not-so-subliminal namedrops. Lupe is one of the lucky few.

Nicki Did Not Only Include Lupe

In the song, Nicki refers to Megan’s career as a total mess. One synonym for the word “mess” is “fiasco” and this is how she decided to use it. “They got you all them Grammy’s, but your flow’s still a no / What a Fiasco, Lupe.” Subsequently, others like Future, G-Eazy, Moneybagg Yo, and of course, Pardison Fontaine and Tory Lanez were included in the mix. Lupe reacted to this shout-out on Twitter by using the iconic Leonardo DiCaprio meme from his The Wolf of Wall Street film. More is still to come on this Nicki and Megan beef, so be sure to stick around.

What are your thoughts on Lupe Fiasco’s reaction to the name drop in Nicki Minaj’s new Megan Thee Stallion diss track “Big Foot?” Do you agree with the masses that the song is bad?
