Maricet Espinosa Gonzalez, a two-time Pan American judo champion, has died at the age of 34. “With great pain, the university community of Cuban sport receives the news of the passing of the outstanding Cuban judoka Maricet Espinosa González. On behalf of our teachers, workers, and students we extend our deepest condolences to their families, friends, and colleagues,” the Cuban Sports University said on social media. Espinosa Gonzalez reportedly died as a result of a heart attack.
Espinosa Gonzalez was the Pan-American champion in 2013 and 2014, as well as the silver medalist at the 2016 Games. Also in 2016, she represented Cuba at the Rio Olympics, losing in the second round of the Women’s 63kg Judo competition. Espinosa Gonzalez had surgery on January 21. However, it is unknown at this time if that was in any way related to her death.
Furthermore, Espinosa Gonzalez’s death comes just six days after that of another Olympian. Canadian pole vaulter Shawn Barber was a world champion, Pan-American champion, and Commonwealth silver medallist. “More than just an incredible athlete, Shawn was such a good-hearted person that always put others ahead of himself. It’s tragic to lose such a good person at such a young age,” Barber’s agent said after the news of the pole vaulter’s death broke. Barber was 29 at the time of his death but had been suffering some health issues.
Barber took home world championship gold in 2015 but was unable to translate that into Olympic success. He finished 10th in Rio He retired from professional athletics following the conclusion of the 2018 season. He had earned a bronze medal in the Diamond League that season. Furthermore, Barber came out as gay in 2017 and was well-regarded for his vocal advocacy and visibility as a queer athlete. Barber was residing in Texas at the time of his death and had been living there for many years.

Fivio Foreign recently teamed up with N3on for a live stream, and as expected, the collab came with its own unique set of challenges. At one point during the stream, for example, N3on referred to the rapper as “bousin.” Fivio Foreign proceeded to correct the streamer, who then awkwardly apologized.
“Woah, you’ve got to call me cousin, bro,” Fivio interjected. “Oh sh*t, I just tried to fit in I don’t know the terminology, cousin,” N3on explained. “Wait that’s bad?” Clearly, Fivio didn’t take the misstep to heart, simply reminding him not to refer to him as anything other than cousin. “Just call me cousin, bro, that’s all. Ain’t nothing wrong with the bousins but call me cousin,” he said. N3on continued to apologize, insisting that he didn’t mean any harm.
After all, Fivio Foreign has made some mistakes of his own in the past, one of which he recalled on Twitter earlier this week. Fans were curious about one of the New York native’s lines in “Same 24” with Meek Mill, prompting him to elaborate. “Can I live? All that stupid sh*t I did / I iced out the gang before I iced out my kids,” he rhymes. “I packed out a show before I packed out my fridge. And they sayin’ they need more, that’s some disrespectful sh*t.” According to Fivio, he meant what he said.

Last week, Snoop Dogg‘s 24-year-old daughter, Cori Broadus had a “severe stroke,” which she revealed on her on her Instagram Story on Thursday. Today, People posted an update from the rapper himself, in which he said she’s “doing a little bit better,” and agreed that the incident has put life into perspective for him. However, Cori may still in the hospital as of earlier this week, when she posted her latest Story from a hospital bed on Tuesday (January 23) in a follow-up post, explaining, “They took me off heaprin tonight (blood thinner) & most likely can go home tomorrow.”
Cori also noted in a video, “I just want to thank everyone single person that has sent me flowers… I mean, like, thank you so, so much. I really, really appreciate all the love and support, it’s been keeping me going in here, like for real.” She was still undergoing tests to determine the exact cause of the stroke, but despite her young age, she has always been at increased risk of health issues after being diagnosed with lupus when she was just six years old, according to Billboard. Lupus causes the body’s immune system to attack its own tissues and organs, and can affect the blood cells, brain, heart, joints, kidneys, lungs, and skin.

The Tennessee Titans have hired Brian Callahan as the team’s new head coach. Some of the interview processes have been delayed by interview rules concerning playoff teams. Coaches from the Chiefs, Niners, Ravens, and Lions cannot be contacted until after the Conference Championship games this weekend.
