Jack Harlow and Drake Go to the Races in ‘Churchill Downs’ Video

Riders up.

Jack Harlow and Drake saddle up and go to the races in the video for “Churchill Downs,” which was shot at the Kentucky Derby in Harlow’s hometown of Louisville last month. With bets in hand, the dapper duo watches as their horses race across the finish line at Churchill Downs Racetrack. Harlow’s mother makes a cameo, dancing as Drake raps to her, while Bryson Tiller, Boi1-da, DJ Drama, and Druski also join the Derby festivities.

Jack served as announcer for the Riders Up, commanding the jockeys to mount their horses prior to the start of the Kentucky Derby.

“Churchill Downs” can be found on Jack’s album Come Home the Kids Miss You, which debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200. The album also features appearances from Lil Wayne, Pharrell, and Justin Timberlake.

During an interview with “The Breakfast Club,” Harlow recalled meeting Drake for the first time at one of his parties in Atlanta in 2019. Drake came up to him and complimented his music, much to Jack’s surprise.

“He was walking across the party and he saw me and he came over to me, and at the time I was pretty wide-eyed, I didn’t have a big record out at all, but he was tapped in on me,” he said. “He was like, ‘You got some hard shit.’ It meant the world to me.”

Ckay Teaches Us ‘Pidgin English For Dummies’

One of the rising trends in pop music has been the explosion in the popularity of international music in America, especially Nigerian Afropop (also known by the confusing moniker “Afrobeats” or by Burna Boy‘s chosen appellative, “Afrofusion”). But as international music becomes more mainstream stateside, one barrier still remains in bridging the gap between America and the world — namely, the language barrier. Thanks to stars singing in their native languages of Spanish, Korean, and three or four Nigerian dialects, being a music fan is starting to mean becoming a polyglot.

Fortunately, Nigerian star Ckay is more than willing to help his growing US audience learn his favorite Igbo phrases. He recently stopped by the Uproxx Studios in LA to help give us a “Pidgin English for Dummies” lesson on TikTok with the help of Uproxx’s own Cherise Johnson. Check out the video below, where Ckay explains “nwantiti” — as in, his hit song “Love Nwantiti” — “mezebu,” and “wahala.” He even shows us how to use them in a sentence, mixing English and Igbo for some useful phrases that can help unlock the infectious grooves of Afropop with a little more context for those of us who didn’t grow up on jollof and moi moi.

Ckay is a Warner Music artist. Uproxx is an independent subsidiary of Warner Music Group.

Johnny Depp Awarded $15 Million In Amber Heard Defamation Suit

For about a month now, Johnny Depp and Amber Heard have been embroiled in a very ugly defamation lawsuit. Depp was suing Heard for comments she made in a Washington Post op-ed in which she claimed that Depp physically and sexually abused her. Following these allegations, Depp lost out on millions of dollars worth of movie roles, and for the most part, he has kept quiet from public life.

The trial had millions of eyes on it and the court of public opinion seemed to sway in Depp’s favor. After a few days of jury deliberations, a verdict was made and read out in court today. According to TMZ, the jury sided with Depp stating that Heard acted with malicious intent and that her words were, in fact, an example of defamation.

As you can see in the clip below, the judge asked the jury to go back to their quarters to fill out the compensation section of the verdict. At this point, it was clear that the jury was going to side with one person or the other. Once they came back, it was revealed that Depp was being award $15 million in the lawsuit.

Needless to say, this is a massive victory for the movie star, who many thought was finished in the entertainment business following the allegations.

This remains a developing story, so stay tuned to HNHH for all of the latest news and updates.

Jada Pinkett-Smith Finally Speaks On Will Smith Oscars Slap

It’s been a few months since the slap was heard, debated, and memed all over the world. When Will Smith slapped Chris Rock at the Oscars in March after the latter made a joke about Jada Pinkett-Smith’s bald hairstyle (which she maintained due to a hair loss condition, unbeknownst to Rock), it shocked viewers everywhere. Amid the flurry of Twitter memes and instant reactions, a lot of debate was had concerning the sensitivity of Chris Rock’s joke and the justifiability of Will Smith’s actions. Finally, after addressing it on social media, Jada Pinkett Smith talked about the incident on the latest episode of her family-centered talk show Red Table Talk.

Contrary to what might have been expected by some, Jada Pinkett-Smith did not apologize or take responsibility for the incident, either on Will’s behalf or her own. Of course, she was not responsible at all, but she hopes that Chris Rock and Will Smith “have an opportunity to heal, talk this out, and reconcile” as “two intelligent, capable men.” She had just one more thing to say about the slap: she believes both stars are sorely needed considering the state of the world, and that support for one another is more important than ever.

This episode’s focus was on the challenges of alopecia, the condition that causes Jada’s hair loss. This season of Red Table Talk began with a statement that the Smith family is focused on deep healing and would address the Oscars issue when the time comes.

Will has since been banned from the Oscars ceremonies for the next ten years for his actions, and responded in acceptance. While he has yet to address the slap at length, we hope that Jada’s statement is the start of a new chapter of reconciliation for Will Smith and Chris Rock.

Jack Harlow & Drake Takeover The Kentucky Derby In “Churchill Downs” Music Video

Jack Harlow is only a few weeks removed from the release of his latest project, Come Home The Kids Miss You. The rapper’s latest opus includes minimal features, but the ones that do appear on the tracklist hold weight in the game. Prior to the album’s release, a leaked record featuring Drake surfaced online which many believed could’ve jeopardized its release. Thankfully, that’s not the case and the two emerged this afternoon with the official music video for the single. The video offers insight into their hangout at the Kentucky Derby in early May. The two are spotted in the box at Churchill Downs where footage of racehorses cut in between shots of their performance and candid BTS antics.

Check out the official video above and sound off with your thoughts in the comments.
