Red Hot Chili Peppers Made The Odd Move Of Letting Opener ASAP Rocky Close Their Concert

Last night (June 22), Red Hot Chili Peppers performed at Emirates Old Trafford in Manchester, England, with support from Thundercat and ASAP Rocky. Typically, the support acts go on before the headliner (they are called “openers,” after all), but that’s not what happened yesterday.

According to The Independent, signs in the stadium read, “Due to unforeseen circumstances, A$AP Rocky will now play immediately after the Red Hot Chili Peppers.” Indeed, following RHCP’s set, Rocky put on a four-song performance, which technically made him the headliner and Chili Peppers the support act (with an exceptionally long set for an opener).

One fan, journalist Darren Burke, tweeted, “Red Hot Chili Peppers cut short their set tonight so support act ASAP Rocky could play AFTER their headline set. Been going to gigs for 30 odd years and never seen anything like it. Many disappointed fans. Bizarre end to the night.”

A brief fan-shot clip shows Rocky performing as what looks like a good number of attendees face away from the stage and head for the exits, since they presumably already saw what they went to see and didn’t have much interest in sticking around for Rocky, who isn’t musically similar to RHCP.

Claims that RHCP cut their set short to accommodate Rocky seem unfounded, however: Per Setlist.fm, the band had an 18-song set, which is as many (or more) songs than their recent performances have included.

Red Hot Chili Peppers is a Warner Music artist. Uproxx is an independent subsidiary of Warner Music Group.

SOURCE SPORTS: Mike Tomlin Shuts Down Antonio Brown Retiring as a Steeler

Antonio Brown Trolls Buccaneers After Playoff Loss To The Rams

Antonio Brown is currently out of the NFL but if it was up to him he could retire as a Pittsburgh Steelers. The Pivot Podcast caught up with Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin and asked him would it happen? His response: “Y’all know that ain’t happening.”

“In terms of putting a helmet on and running out of the tunnel and playing ball and stuff like that, man. You know he’s moved on, and we’ve moved on,” Tomlin said. “We can sit around and chop that up like it’s a realistic conversation, but we know that’s not realistic.”

During a stellar nine-year run with the Steelers, Brown had 837 receptions, 11,207 yards, and 74 touchdowns. Tomlin would touch on those achievements.

“What I’ll say about AB is this man, we had nine great years,” Tomlin said. “I appreciate that dude in ways I can’t explain to y’all. I won’t even bother to attempt to explain to y’all because it sounds like I’m defending him in some way. And to me, from that standpoint, the nature of our relationship and what we all did together requires no defense.”

Last month, AB hit Twitter and revealed he wants to retire with the team he started his career with. In a couple of tweets, AB revealed his stance. “Just wanna retire a Steeler,” AB wrote. “Not play, just retire so we clear.”

Antonio Brown is currently focused on his music career. Earlier this year, he released his highly anticipated album Paradigm via Vydia & CAB Records. The new album features French Montana, DaBaby, Fivio Foreign, Young Thug, and Keyshia Cole, among others.

“Paradigm, to me means, your total perspective,” AB says of the album. “How you view the world, the lens through which you see everything. So a paradigm shift means a massive shift in how one sees everything. That’s what this album is about.”

You can hear the new album below.

Irv Gotti Says ‘Honestly, Nevermind’ Puts Hip-Hop In Peril, Says He’s Looking For A “New DMX”

m

Drake has definitely set hip-hop ablaze with the release of his newest album Honestly, Nevermind. The album has people split, with some applauding Drake for trying a new sound, while others wish Drake would revert back to his old rapping and singing days. Joe Budden and Vince Staples even debated whether the album is signaling the end of rap.

Among those critical of the album and the future of hip hop is Murder Inc. co-founder and record producer Irv Gotti.

TMZ caught up with the multi-hyphenate at LAX and asked him what they thought of the shift in sound from Drizzy.

“Drake’s new album is not hip-hop,” Gotti said. “And he can do whatever he wants. Let me stress that: Drake can do whatever he wants.”

When asked if Honestly, Nevermind signifies the end of rap music, Gotti stated that there can never be a demise of hip-hop and that the new album made him want to go find the next big hip-hop act. “I hope not. … As long as I’m alive it could never be a demise of the hip-hop, I gotta get back in the game and find me a n*gga, then. That’s what that album made me feel like, it made me feel like going to find me a raw new DMX, new Ja, new Jay, and serving n*ggas and f*ckin’ bringing back great hip-hop.”

Gotti continued, saying how Drake is so influential of an artist that up-and-coming artists might ditch hip-hop to follow Drake’s wave.  “That album is not hip-hop. … And [Drake’s] so strong and so powerful he can change the dynamic of shit and any n*gga who sees this, please, hip-hop, yo…hip-hop has changed so many n*ggas lives that was in the hood that gave them an out, and Drake can do that. I just wasn’t expecting a whole album of that shit…he’s too powerful and too strong and it made me feel like we need another n*gga that’s as powerful and strong that’s gonna stay with this thing called hip-hop.”

Rick Ross Wants To Buy Michael Rubin’s Ownership Stake In The Philadelphia 76’ers

Rick Ross Reveals Codeine Abuse Caused Seizures

Rick Ross has been looking for the chance to own a part of a sports team for a minute. He has gone on social media asking the Miami Dolphins to let him become a minority owner in the franchise, and with the news of Michael Rubin selling his 10% stake in the Philadelphia 76’ers, Ross is looking for his chance to add “minority owner” to his resumé.

Rubin had taken to social media to announce that he was selling his 10% stake in the franchise to in order to expand the Fanatics brand into the sports gambling industry. This would eventually create a conflict of interest as an owner.

In the comments section of Rubin’s Instagram post, Rick Ross commented, saying that he would like to buy the 10% stake in the franchise.

“I’ll buy his 10% lol,” Rozay commented.

The ownership group is headed by Joshua Harris and David Blitzer. The two also bought a piece of the New Jersey Devils hockey team for $320 million in 2013.

Rubin purchased his 10% stake in the 76’ers back in 2011 for about $290 million. Since then, the franchise has grown and is most likely worth more. Despite what the internet might say Ross’s net worth is, we’re sure he’ll find a way to buy into the NBA franchise if he’s really serious about it.

Woman Recounts How She Unknowingly Became The Getaway Driver In The Murder Of Nipsey Hussle

Eric Holder Nipsey Hussle Murder Trial

According to NBC Los Angeles, 35-year-old Bryannita Nicholson testified in court on Monday against Eric Holder in exchange for immunity. She maintained that she drove Holder home, not knowing he had just killed Nipsey Hussle.

Nicholson stated had been dating Eric Holder for a month prior to the murder of Nipsey, and that the two had met when she was driving for Lyft. On the day of the murder, Holder had asked Nicholson to take him to the Master Burger restaurant located on the corner of Crenshaw and Slauson, in the same shopping center as Nipsey’s Marathon Clothing Store.

Nicholson recalled that she saw Nip in front of the store, said “‘Ooh, there’s goes Nipsey, he fine,’” and told Holder that she wanted to take a picture with the Los Angeles MC and businessman.

Nicholson stated that Holder never told her that he knew Nip through their gang affiliation, and Holder had gotten out of the car and walked towards Nip while she looked for somewhere to park. By the time Nicholson parked the car and joined Holder, she admitted that his voice was raised. “Eric was asking Nipsey, ‘Did you tell somebody I snitched?’” Nicholson testified.

Nicholson was able to get a selfie with Nip after his brief encounter with Holder. “I was just excited, I was just happy, I just wanted to show my Facebook friends,” said Nicholson. She then went back to her car to post the picture on Facebook.

Holder then went inside the Master Burger, came out with chili fries, and told Nicholson to go around the block. At that point, he took out a semi-automatic handgun and loaded it.

“I was like, ‘What are you doing?’ You put that away, you ain’t going to shoot nothing outside my car,’” Nicholson testified. She added that “he did put it away.” Nicholson then pulled into the alley and waited for Holder. She said that she thought about getting a t-shirt from Nipsey’s store before she heard gunshots.

Nicholson said that she chose not to drive away after hearing the gunshots in case Holder was the one who had been shot. Holder then came powerwalking to the car and told her to drive. “I was like, ‘What happened?’” Nicholson said. “He said, ‘You talk too much I ought to slap you.’ And he was just like, ‘Drive! Drive!’”

It wasn’t until she got home and heard on the news that Nipsey had been fatally shot. People in the comments section of her Facebook post accused Holder of killing Nipsey.

Nicholson also testified that Holder refused to talk while she drove him to his home in Long Beach.

“Did it start to occur to you at that moment that Eric might have done it?” asked Deputy District Attorney John McKinney. Nicholson answered, “Yes,” and added that she agreed to pick him up but did not explain why she did.

SOURCE SPORTS: Lakers Are The “Most Significant Threat” To Acquire Kyrie Irving If He Leaves Brooklyn, According To Report

Kyrie Irving Says He Understood Nets Decision to Play Without Him

It seems Kyrie’s time with the Brooklyn Nets is coming to an end as the superstar is looking to head to another team in the offseason. In a new report from Adrian Wojnarowski, the Lakers are reportedly “the most significant threat” to acquire Kyrie if he decides to leave the Nets.

According to Wojnarowski, the Lakers can’t afford to pay Kyrie a max contract, but he’ll get to play with his former teammate LeBron James. Doing this, Kyrie would have to take a significant pay cut.

With the way the Lakers roster is already set up, Irving would be taking a $30 million pay cut to play with the team. He has a player option worth $36 million for the 2022-23 season and in order to join the Lakers, Irving would have to turn that down and sign a $6 million taxpayer exemption with the Lakers.

“Now, the Lakers are considered the most significant threat right now for Kyrie Irving, but that would essentially entail him taking $30 million less than he can opt into in Brooklyn,” Woj reported. “There’s a $6 million taxpayer exemption he can sign with the Lakers.”

While it seems unlikely that Kyrie will take that significant of a pay cut, the Nets point guard has reportedly been in contact with LeBron as of recent, according to NBA insider Marc Stein. However, if Kyrie does agree to opt-in, he could be a part of a trade that could include Anthony Davis and Russell Westbrook going to the Nets.
