Kamasi Washington And André 3000 Enter A ‘Dream State’ On Their Collaboration From Washington’s Upcoming Album
It was likely only a matter of time until Kamasi Washington and André 3000 teamed up. After all, André has spent the last half-decade wandering around playing woodwinds and Washington is one of the foremost big-band jazz revivalists working in music today. Sure enough, they’ve released their first collaboration, “Dream State,” complete with a well-suited, avant-garde music video. The track’s actually long enough that YouTube imposes its obnoxious ads on it before the first movement is even over, but the conversation between the two artists’ chosen instruments — sax and flute — is hypnotically engaging enough to make it worth sitting through a Fiji tourism commercial. Hell, I’d even pay for Premium (if I didn’t already have it and write it off on my taxes).
The song is from Washington’s upcoming album, Fearless Movement, which is out on May 3. In the album announcement press release, Kamasi calls it his “dance album,” elaborating, “It’s not literal. Dance is movement and expression, and in a way it’s the same thing as music—expressing your spirit through your body. That’s what this album is pushing.” The project was partially inspired by the birth of his daughter, and will also feature appearances from BJ The Chicago Kid, Coast Contra, DJ Battlecat, D-Smoke, George Clinton, and of course, frequent collaborators Terrace Martin and Thundercat.

GloRilla Cried Real Tears When Surprised With A Touching Video Of Her Dad Expressing Pride For His ‘Baby’
GloRilla recently visited Club Shay Shay and reacted to LeBron James rapping along to “Yeah Glo!” At the time, GloRilla said, “My whole family, they big on sports. My dad and my brothers, and so it felt like a family trophy to me because they love this sh*t. Like, they watch this sh*t all day, and so all them was like, ‘You got LeBron singing your song?!’” The Memphis rapper added, “Nobody could tell me sh*t. I got LeBron’s co-sign. No matter how often Cardi B reminds haters and trolls that she has no Mexican roots, they continue to insist that she doesn’t meet their definition of Black. This has become increasingly frustrating for the mother of two, who takes great pride in her Dominican heritage. Earlier this week, Bardi and a male content creator, Raymonte, found themselves trading shots. The latter compared himself to the former while trying to make a point about BIPOC creatives, causing some confusion. “It’s [wild] because when I became famous people said I’m ghetto, talked s**t about my accent, called me d*mb because [of] the way I speak. Said I got no couth, talk about my teeth, my braids, my two buns, and to this day, no matter what I accomplish I still get called a stripper,” the Grammy award winner ranted.
Raymonte didn’t initially understand Cardi’s anger, but she was quick to provide him with an explanation. “You know why I’m at where I’m at right now? Today in Hip Hop History: Big Pun’s Posthumous Sophomore LP ‘Yeeeah Baby’ Dropped 24 Years Ago
On this day in 2000, the first posthumous L.P. to be released by the first “Latin to go platinum” entitled Yeeeah Baby was released on the Loud/Terror Squad imprint.
Christopher “Big Pun” Rios passed away just shy of two months before his sophomore L.P.’s release and anticipated success, which came on the heels of his debut album, Capital Punishment. With appearances from the entire Terror Squad and executive production by the T.S. general Fat Joe, the 16-track album showed Pun’s acute diversity in his lyricism and approach to song-making, which yielded some of the most memorable songs of his career. The album took longer to record because of Pun’s extreme obesity since his breathing problems couldn’t permit him to spit his custom, rapid-fire flow freely.
Some of the L.P.’s favorites are the Puerto Rican anthem “100%” with Terror Squad crooner Tony Sunshine on the hook, “New York Giants” featuring M.O.P., “Ms. Martin,” an ode to his protege Remy Ma and the touching single “It’s So Hard” featuring Donnell Jones.
