Young Thug is once again attempting to get bond as he awaits trial for the YSL Rico.
Jury selection is still underway for the trial, entering month five, and Young Thug’s legal team is attempting to get the rapper out on bond. Thugger is facing RICO charges in Fulton County, Georgia.
Attorney Brian Steel represents Young Thug and spoke to ABC News, highlighting that his client does not pose a risk.
“Mr. Williams is not a risk to commit a crime and he’s not a risk to flee the jurisdiction and that’s what bond is about,” Steel said.
Steel also states early mornings, coupled with long nights in returning to his cell, have impacted his health and ability to get ready for trial.
Young Thug’s Instagram page has many fans scratching their heads, as a link to Gunna’s DS4EVER is now in his bio. Of course, given that he currently waits in jail on RICO charges along with various other codefendants, this is an odd development. Not only that, but it’s even odder because his “Ski” collaborator took a plea deal and testified against YSL. If you’re looking for an explanation, the comments sections on coverage of this phenomenon is already rife with theories and assumptions. Whatever the case, there’s too little information to know the true intent of this move, or to identify what their relationship is like now.
“How else he finna pay for them lawyer fees,” one user suggested under DJ Akademiks’ post of the development. As such, many think that this is just promotion for DS4EVER so YSL can make more money while its members wait behind bars. “Gunna watching too many hacking documentaries sitting at the crib,” another fan theorized. Other possible interpretations are that this is Thugger’s PR team trying to make public amends. Maybe Young Thug himself sought to make their friendship clear without a statement, or deliver a very convoluted and strange diss.
Young Thug Promotes Gunna On Instagram
Regardless, our guess is as good as yours as to what could’ve prompted this move. Still, even if Thug came out with a statement defending Gunna, people would likely continue to trash him for his actions. For example, when a fan compiled all his anti-snitching bars, social media bashed him. In addition, other rappers apparently threw subliminals or unfollowed the “Drip Or Drown” MC, along with strong words from his (perhaps former) YSL cohorts.
Meanwhile, Thugger is currently looking for bond with the help of his attorney- for the fourth time in the past year. “Mr. Williams is not a risk to commit a crime and he’s not a risk to flee the jurisdiction and that’s what bond is about,” attorney Brian Steel told ABC News. Also, he added that he “previously put forth compelling evidence, without doubt, that conditions can be imposed which permit bond to be set.” This request for bond comes as concerns for his health due to fatigue and sleep depravation become more common on social media. Hopefully he can await jurisdiction in humane and healthy conditions. Regardless, the fact remains that, until someone offers an explanation, fans can’t wrap their head around that Instagram bio. The RICO case surrounding YSL has finally gone to trial. However, chaos reigned in the courtroom during its opening days. Miles Farley has been charged with the murder of Shymel Drinks alongside various RICO charges. The alleged murder came as part of the feud between YSL and YFN. Farley, the creator of the “Make America Slime Again” brand, is a unique figure in the sprawling trial. Unlike many of his co-defendants, Farley refused a plea deal. The deal would have required him to admit that YSL was a “street gang” and provide testimony against other defendants in court.
However, Farley has mostly been an afterthought in the proceedings so far this week. That is because Thursday saw his attorney, Anastassios Manettas, arrested on possession charges while entering the Fulton County Courthouse. Manettas has reportedly attempted to bring prescription medication into the courtoom. Before that, Wednesday saw the dramatic removal of Rodalius “Lil’ Rod” Ryan from the courtroom. Farley’s case was also severed by presiding judge Ural Glanville, meaning Farley will stand trial alone.
Farley Granted $650k bond
On Friday, Farley was granted a $650k bond by Judge Glanville. This means that if he can pay up, he will have a degree of freedom before his trial. The conditions of Farley’s bond were outlined as being required to wear ankle and wrist monitors, stay off social media, and respect a 10pm curfew. No date has been set for Farley’s trial. Farley’s trial was severed from the wider YSL case, meaning Farley will have his charges as a sole defendant.
The decision to grant Farley bond over a year after he was indicted came as a result of the week’s dramatic events. The arrest of Manettas, who will still represent Farley, was the primary reason cited by Glanville for his issuing of the bond. Manettas’ arrest was also cited as the driving force behind Glanville’s decision to sever Farley’s case, the seventh instance of severance in the trial. However, Manettas appeared confident after learning of his client’s bond. “In my opinion, [it] didn’t go very well for the state,” Manettas told Atlanta’s Channel 2 Action News. The lawyer of one of over a dozen involved in the trial and represents a number of other defendants. The court proceedings are set to continue next week.
A defense attorney for one of the YSL members on trial in the crew’s RICO case in Atlanta has been arrested for bringing prescription pills past the court’s checkpoint and now faces four criminal charges himself.
Miles Farley’s lawyer Anastassios Manettas was charged with possession, obstruction, disruption of court proceedings and simple battery on a law enforcement officer.
Following Manettas’ arrest, George Chidi, an Atlanta-based journalist who has been detailing the YSL RICOcase on record since last year, took to Twitter to weigh in on the new development involving Manettas.
Young Thug has been in court for quite some time at this point. As many of you know, he is currently on trial in the YSL RICO case. Overall, Thugger is being accused of a plethora of accused crimes. In fact, the prosecution has painted the artist as some sort of criminal mastermind and mafia don. Although the artist has some of the best lawyers in the world, there is no telling what could end up happening in this case. After all, RICO cases can come with extremely long prison sentences.
If you have been following along with the case, you would know that the court proceedings have not been without antics. Consequently, there have been numerous delays and recesses. People have been making a scene in the court, and it always leads to confusion. Additionally, the trial is being filmed, which then leads to some of these moments going viral. This is bad for both the defense and the prosecution, who just want to get on with the trial. Needless to say, this could all take a while.
Young Thug Perseveres
However, Young Thug seems to be keeping a very positive attitude while in court. In the video above posted by OurGenerationMusic, Thugger could be seen smiling while talking to his lawyer. Overall, it is a very small gesture. However, it does show that Thug still has some positivity despite everything that is happening. Although, it should be noted that court didn’t go that smoothly yesterday. According to TheNeighborhoodTalk, calamity took place in the court as Lil Rod was taken away in handcuffs. Furthermore, there were other defendants who experienced the same fate. All sorts of chaos took place, and eventually, cameras had to be turned off.
It was yet another example of how this hasn’t exactly been the smoothest trial. Either way, we’re sure both sides of the equation would rather this just go on as normal. There is a lot at stake here, and there are a lot of people’s lives who are at stake. Let us know what you think of all this, in the comments below. The RICO trial of YSL and Young Thug just encountered yet another roadblock after Fulton County Chief Judge Ural Glanville ordered a mental evaluation of a codefendant. Moreover, YSL affiliate Jayden Myrick claimed to receive legal advice from former President Donald Trump, President Joe Biden, and U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff. This followed various delays in the jury selection process, which is expected to take months to complete. Since January, the court has searched for jurors to evaluate the crimes and fates of Young Thug and 13 other codefendants. With this new development, the trial might take longer to get underway.
Furthermore, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported that Judge Glanville expressed concern for Myrick’s statements. Last month, his attorneys made a request for a hearing to establish the 22-year-old’s competency to represent himself in court. Said request came directly as a result of his wishes. “I’m not the regular inmate,” he reportedly stated during the hearing. “I be with Joe Biden and Donald Trump and they be talking to me. Donald Trump is going to get me out.” Afterwards, he struggled to make himself clear in the court’s eyes. “I have some serious concerns about his present competency,” the judge remarked after asking if he took medication.
Judge Orders Mental Evaluation Of Codefendant In YSL Case
However, the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that Myrick did receive medical prescriptions, which included an antipsychotic. Still, the codefendant maintained that he doesn’t need treatment via said medication. “I don’t need the medication,” he allegedly told the court. Not only that, but he expressed dissatisfaction with his legal team, alleging that his defense wasn’t on his side.
Given these statements, Judge Glanville ordered a mental evaluation of Myrick within 48 hours. Moreover, this evaluation would determine whether the alleged YSL coconspirator is competent to stand trial among his cohorts. If the evaluation rules otherwise, his case could face separate trial so as to not cause further delays for his 13 codefendants. As such, perhaps this won’t affect the case’s timeline as the situation suggests. Despite those hopes, given how many twists and turns this case underwent, it’s not out of the question. For the latest updates on Young Thug and YSL’s RICO trial, come back to HNHH.
More headaches surround the jury selection process in the YSL case have emerged. Over the past few months, the defense and prosecutors struggled to identify their jurors for the RICO trial. However, the judge has also found himself scolding many of the potential candidates. This time, a judge issued jail time for one individual accused of recording the jury selection process. The judge explained that there were potential punishments: a $1000 fine or 20 days in jail. Ultimately, he sentenced the juror to 3 days behind bars for contempt.
“Madam, I think given that the amount of time and energy and effort and care we spent in making that particular pronouncement, and I even – I tell it multiple times for multiple reasons and you decide that you want to do what you wanted to do,” the judge said before the individual tried to provide an explanation. “Well, you pulled out your phone and you recorded this court’s proceedings which is a direct violation of the court’s orders so I’m going to sentence you to three days in jail.”
YSL Juror Jailed For Contempt
The judge explained that he didn’t want to issue a fine to the individual because of his repeated warnings during the jury selection process. “Unfortunately, I have told several people and made several iterations of this particular notice. And you video taped our proceedings. It’s a brazen violation of these particular proceedings,” he said. While the juror tried to explain that “so much was going on,” the judge shut her “excuse for behavior” down.”
Unfortunately, this is just among the many issues that have occurred during the jury selection process. In the past few months, the judge has scolded and punished a number of individuals. One juror, in particular, found themselves having to write a paper on the importance of jury selection after reportedly skipping town for vacation. Another was found in contempt for allegedly trying to contact a reporter. Due to the number of mishaps throughout the Young Thug trial, there will be roughly 1,200 potential jurors called. We’ll keep you posted on any further updates surrounding the YSL RICO case including the progress with jury selection.
Young Thug remains behind bars as he awaits the YSL RICO trial to begin. The rapper was arrested last May along with 27 other associates, including Gunna, who has since been released after taking an Alford Plea. In the past two months, jury selection has been underway and the process has been from furthest thing to smooth. Many have been excused after sharing their hardships with the judge. By the time February rolled around, the jury selection process appeared to be stagnant and they expected it to take several months.
Jury selection aside, many of the co-defendants have found themselves in hot water. There was that infamous moment where a co-defendant tried to hand Young Thug a pill that he immediately handed over to the bailiff. However, the leak of YSL Woody’s interrogation video became the biggest controversy to emerge thus far. Though a judge rejected a motion for a mistrial, the incident is being further investigated. Meanwhile, the prosecutors have expressed fear that their potential star witness might be in danger.
Young Thug Shows Gains
Since his arrest, we haven’t heard many updates from Young Thug but his family members and friends passed along messages on his behalf. A few months ago, she assured fans that the rapper was in good spirits during this trying time. However, over the weekend, she blessed fans with a new picture of Thug via video call. The rapper has clearly been working out heavily these days. Dolly White shared a photo of Thug flexing his gains, writing, “My Heart.”
Prior to Dolly White’s update, Metro Boomin revealed that he also got the opportunity to chop it up with Thug. He also expressed optimism that Thug would be back sooner rather than later. “Talked to [spider emoji] today and just know when he touchdown the whole [earth emoji] gon feel it [bicep flex emoji],” he wrote. Metro was one of the few artists to release music with Thug since his arrest. Thugger appeared on Heroes & Villains singles, “Trance” alongside Travis Scott and “Metro Spider.” Perhaps, Metro might unload some more unreleased Thug sometime soon. Check out Dolly White’s post above.
Judge Ural Glanville ordered a probe of leaked evidence in the RICO trial of Young Thug and YSL. Moreover, the evidence in question is a surfaced video of a state’s witness offering information in the case in exchange for leniency. Now, the judge ordered an investigation into how that video spread across social media like wildfire. “It affects everyone’s right to a fair trial,” Glanville told attorneys. “I don’t know who did this but if this pertains to you, please amend your ways. You’re playing a very dangerous game with your six-digit bar number.”
Furthermore, jury selection in the developing case is still ongoing, and will reportedly last several months. Following multiple delays and a host of other courtroom and prison incidents, this trial seems no closer to getting started. In fact, the process began over two months ago, and it seems like every week there’s more time added to the estimate. Still, Judge Glanville urged prosecutors and defense attorneys on Wednesday (March 1) to keep evidence secret until the trial. Not only that, but the trial process itself is expected to take anywhere from six to nine months to complete.
Judge In Young Thug Trial Orders Probe Into Leak
Meanwhile, the leaked interrogation video in question surfaced about two weeks ago and was tied to YSL affiliate Lil Woody. Gina Bernard, attorney of codefendant Jayden Myrick, filed a motion seeking a mistrial which Glanville ultimately denied. Moreover, she claimed that publicity and previous altercations make a fair trial impossible for her client. However, the prosecution alleges that the defense leaked the video, as it surfaced less than a month after they gained access.
“The state has absolutely no interest in leaking this video to members of the public,” prosecutors wrote. “Its dissemination serves only to intimidate and harass witnesses called upon by the state to testify in a very serious and high-profile case.” Furthermore, they said that the video put their witness in danger, as many threw out accusations of snitching and rat behavior. Still, defense attorneys maintained that, since prosecutors shared the clip with an unsecured link, anyone could’ve leaked it. Also, Glanville warned that if further leaks occur, he will restrict discovery evidence for viewing in his chambers. Regardless of your take, come back to HNHH for the latest on the YSL case and Young Thug.
Young Scooter is not with that snitching! After suggesting a rat tour, Scooter is back to the music, dropping off a new diss to YSL. The song’s title has not been revealed or a release date has not been dropped but the message is clear.
“I can’t talked to Spider, I can’t call him Slime Half the Slimes told, yeah they dropping dimes Had to drop something for the hood cus the streets crying Shit I’m already rich I ain’t gotta die trying”
In case you missed the reference, Spider is Young Thug.
Hip-Hop has been pointing out informants, culturally known as rats, in light of various court cases. Without naming names Young Scooter wants to create a “rat tour” and Boosie Badazz seems to think it’s a good idea.
@youngscooter I AGREE PUT ALL THE RATS ON TOUR N LET ALL THE RATS FANS GO TO THEY CONCERTS,” Boosie typed on Twitter. “FEED EVERYBODY DIFFERENT KINDS OF CHEESE AT THE CONCESSION! ALSO POST THE NAMES OF EVERYBODY THEY SNITCHED ON BEHIND THEM ON THE SCREEN! WHO GO BOOK THE RAT TOUR?”
