Ice Spice’s Manager Reveals How Her Meteoric Rise To Fame Came Together

Ice Spice’s manager, James Rosemond Jr., recently spoke with Billboard about the viral New York artist’s rise to fame. In doing so, he revealed how he discovered her, decided to help market her, and more. He began by revealing that “No Clarity” was one of the first songs he heard from her.

“It was her tone and the production she was picking,” he explained, citing what stood out about her. “When I came across her early on, she only had about two or three songs out. She didn’t have the crazy monthly listeners and social numbers. Then I came across a song called ‘No Clarity,’ a drill flip of Zedd’s ‘Clarity,’ and heard the song’s possibilities. Next, I heard ‘Name of Love.’ One, she’s working with the same producer [RIOTUSA] and they’re creating a sound. Two, her tone, and three, they’re flipping these crossover samples in drills. That got me. Then I saw her image — the curls, which was different — and I’m like, ‘Whoa!’”

As for their marketing strategy, Rosemond Jr. brought up her breakout single, “Munch.” He continued: “Coming out of the gate, it was always three-dimensional chess. ‘Less is more’ was our conversation and ‘Let’s not saturate.’ Strategically, it was also about digital. When we put ‘Munch’ out, we got the right digital team, which was Create Music Group. Its sister companies include WorldStar and Genius. I never want to feel like an artist is on a treadmill. I always want them to feel like they’re moving forward from A to C, C to E. So I did a strategic play on the digital side to accelerate her growth, social and in the market. ‘Munch’ was everywhere that first week we put it out. And that was due to the strategic play that I was able to put together using the song as currency.”

Ice Spice “Y2K”—Artists Fans Want On Her Debut Album

Ice Spice has announced plans to release her debut album Y2K this July, with a world tour set to follow soon after. The album will be Ice Spice’s first full-length body of work, serving as a make-or-break moment for the up-and-coming artist. She has previously built considerable buzz with just a few singles, features, and prominent movie soundtrack placements, accumulating a monthly Spotify listenership of over 45 million Spotify users at certain points in her career. While Ice Spice has shown she can carry a song by herself, fans are already hyped to learn what featured artists may be present on Y2K. Let’s list a few fan-favorite choices as we continue to patiently sit back and hear the final product.

5. Lil Wayne

Ice Spice has already collaborated with Nicki Minaj to major success. It only makes sense that she would travel up the ranks of the former Young Money signees and link with other big-name artists such as Lil Wayne or even Drake. Ice Spice’s aggressive flow, powerful stage presence, and propensity for leaning on shallow wordplay make her an ideal candidate for a Wayne feature, as the pair would blend styles quite harmoniously.

If JID were to appear on Ice Spice’s Y2K, his vocal melodies and densely packed rhymes would provide the perfect contrast for Ice’s drill-inspired New York flows. Ice Spice’s greatest weakness seems to be a heavy reliance on her iconic flow, which could hinder her ability to keep listeners entertained for an entire project. Adding a versatile and respected young rapper like JID into the mix could only improve the sonic diversity of her debut album.

3. Chief Keef

As mentioned, Ice Spice leans heavily on the New York drill sound, which will undoubtedly be present all over Y2K. Who better to assist her chopped vocal melodies and thumping, bass-heavy production than the founder of the Chicago drill wave, Chief Keef? Keef has also been getting into his melodic singing bag quite a bit lately, with features such as “Hit & Run” by Tobi Lou, “Ghetto Princess” with Sexyy Red, and Lyrical Lemonade’s “Say Ya Grace.” As a result, his vibe and presence could bring a lot to an Ice Spice track.

2. Megan Thee Stallion

It is highly unlikely that Megan Thee Stallion will appear on Ice Spice’s Y2K album, though it would be a pleasant surprise. Meg has seemingly entered her prime lately, with a string of singles and freestyles that have fans itching to hear more of her brash Houston sound. Earlier this year, Ice Spice became a de facto opponent of Thee Stallion due to her relationship with Nicki Minaj, even leading to something of a proxy beef breaking out between Ice Spice and Latto. If Meg and Ice could work together and bury the hatchet, it would be a big step in laying to rest the pervasive rumor that women in hip hop can’t get along. We won’t hold our breaths for this one, but the team-up would be legendary if it ever played out.

1. Taylor Swift

The No. 1 spot on this list could only go to the queen of the modern music landscape herself, Taylor Swift. Not only would a Taylor Swift inclusion bring massive numbers to Ice Spice’s Y2K, it would also make perfect sense as the two popular vocalists are already friends outside of music. Ice Spice and Taylor previously linked up for a remixed version of Swift’s song “Karma,” though they have yet to craft an original hit together. Seeing the chemistry of Ice Spice and Taylor Swift come together on a pop single would absolutely propel Y2K to massive heights and deliver a major streaming win for the rising star.

Ice Spice Responded To Fans Who Criticized The Placement Of ‘Y2K’ On Her Album Cover

Yesterday, Ice Spice announced the release date of her debut album, Y2K, after months of anticipation. At the same time, she also shared the album’s cover artwork, but while she was clearly very proud of it, folks on social media were, unsurprisingly, less than impressed.

One element fans took note of was the placement of the album’s title on the photo, which was shot by David LaChappelle. Some fans even took it upon themselves to redesign the cover themselves, hoping to improve on its perceived flaws.

Today, Ice Spice herself responded to the criticism, posting a Polaroid photo of herself and LaChappelle on X (RIP, Twitter.com) with a thankful caption and a cryptic message. “David LaChapelle is #Y2K!” she wrote. “soooo sweet + legendary he didn’t even charge me cus he f*cks wit a real b*tch💋thank U for all the incredible art you’ve put out through the years this cover means everything to me ❤ & yes Y2K was placed on the trash can on purpose can u guess why?”

If the placement of the album title is indeed meant to be a metaphor for moving on from the nostalgia for years past, it certainly hasn’t translated in Ice’s music. A proponent of so-called “sample drill,” both her look and her sound draw heavily from the years immediately after her birth (she was born on New Year’s Day, 2000, if you can believe it). Her most recent single, “Gimmie A Light,” interpolates a sample from Sean Paul’s 2002 hit “Gimmie The Light,” while 2023’s “Barbie World” tapped Aqua’s “Barbie Girl,” a staple of turn-of-the-millennium Europop.

Earlier this week, Ice Spice finally announced an official release date for her highly anticipated debut album, Y2K! The project is scheduled to drop on July 26 and is available for pre-save now. Alongside the exciting announcement, the Bronx-born performer unveiled cover art for the upcoming release. In it, the hitmaker is seen perched up against a wall alongside a New York City subway.

Unfortunately, social media users were quick to react to the artwork, and many of them were less than satisfied. While some took issue with the Graffiti-inspired being placed on a trash can, others weren’t feeling the inclusion of her signature. They’ve been sounding off about it online, and calling whoever was behind the cover into question. Of course, this person is David LaChapelle, an award-winning photographer and music video director.

Luckily, it doesn’t appear as though the criticism fazes Ice Spice. Earlier today, she took to social media to praise LaChapelle amid the backlash, making it clear that she loves the cover art. “David LaChapelle is #Y2K! soooo sweet + legendary he didn’t even charge me cus he f*cks wit a real b*tch,” she captioned a photo of the two of them together. “Thank U for all the incredible art you’ve put out through the years this cover means everything to me & yes Y2K was placed on the trash can on purpose can u guess why?”

Her Twitter/X replies are now flooded with guesses about the album title placement, though it’s unclear whether or not she plans to reveal its meaning. Ice Spice Twerks Up A Storm In An Effort To Preview Her Upcoming Tour Moves

Ice Spice is easily one of the biggest young artists in the world right now. Overall, she has had that title since the late stages of 2022. This is around the same time that “Munch” became a viral hit. She subsequently earned a co-sign from Drake, and in 2023, she ended up finding some success thanks to both Taylor Swift and Nicki Minaj. Her debut EP was filled with hits, and now, fans are eager to hear her debut album Y2K.

Yesterday, it was revealed that this new album would officially be dropping on Friday, July 26th. Furthermore, she unveiled a unique cover image from the likes of David LaChapelle. Not everyone is a fan of it, although it doesn’t seem like it’s going to be changed. Instead, fans are just going to have to deal with it. That said, Spice also revealed that she is going on tour this summer with Cash Cobain. This led to an Instagram Live session last night in which she attempted to display some of the moves she will employ during her shows.

Multi-platinum-selling and GRAMMY-nominated rapper Ice Spice announced the release of her highly anticipated debut album, Y2K!, which will be released on July 26th via 10K Projects/Capitol Records.

The album, titled to nod to her January 1, 2000 birthday, will include her latest single, “Gimmie A Light.” Produced by her long-time collaborator RIOTUSA, the track features a sample from dancehall legend Sean Paul’s 2002 hit “Gimme the Light.” The official music video, self-directed by Ice Spice and produced by fellow New York City natives George and Frederick Buford, aka The Evil Twins, is now available.

Ice Spice also revealed her first-ever global headline tour, the Y2K! WORLD TOUR, which will have festival dates across Europe, the UK, and North America this summer. The 24-date tour kicks off in Europe with performances at Roskilde Festival in Denmark, Rolling Loud Europe in Austria, and Wireless Festival in London, among others.

Produced by Live Nation, the tour will continue in North America, beginning in Washington, DC on July 30 at The Anthem. It includes stops in Philadelphia, New York, Toronto, Chicago, Denver, Los Angeles, Oakland, and Atlanta before concluding on August 31 in Miami, FL at The Fillmore Miami Beach at Jackie Gleason Theater. Special guests RIOTUSA and Cash Cobain will join Ice Spice on all North American dates.

Fans can look forward to hearing tracks from her debut album, Y2K!, including the hit single “Think U The Shit (Fart).” The album follows her acclaimed debut EP, *Like..?, released in 2023, which featured hits like “Munch (Feelin U),” “In Ha Mood,” and “Princess Diana.”

Tickets for the Y2K! WORLD TOUR will be available starting with a Citi presale today at 1 p.m. local time. An artist presale will begin on Thursday, June 6, at 8 a.m. local time, with general sales starting on Friday, June 7, at 10 a.m. local time at IceSpiceMusic.com. Ice Spice Announces World Tour In Support Of New Album, “Y2K!”

Ice Spice will be traveling across the globe over the summer in support of her upcoming album, Y2K! She announced the highly-anticipated project, as well as the tour, in posts on Instagram, on Wednesday. She previously shared the singles, “Think U The Sh*t (Fart)” and “Gimmie A Light,” earlier this year.

The Y2K! World Tour will see Spice travel to Switzerland, Belgium, the United Kingdom, and more European stops before returning to North America for shows in Washington D.C., Chicago, Toronto, New York City, and more. The tour kicks off on July 4th in Roskilde, Denmark at the Roskilde Festival. Cash Cobain will be joining her on the road.

Ice Spice Performs During Coachella

Ice Spice Confirmed The Release Date For Her Debut Album ‘Y2K’ And Unveiled Its Cover Art

At the beginning of the year, months after she released her debut project Like..?, Ice Spice announced her debut album and revealed that it would be called Y2K. The title aligns with the rapper’s birthday which falls on January 1, 2000. At the time, Ice Spice said that Y2K would arrive at some point this year, and true to her word, the rapper revealed that the project will indeed come out this summer.

In posts she shared on her social media pages, Ice Spice announced that Y2K will be released on July 12. “HIIIII >.<,” she wrote in her posts. “THE ALBUM WILL BE DROPPING JULY 26TH !!!! pre-save now ;*.” Ice Spice shared a pre-save link to the project and also unveiled the album’s artwork which depicts her standing in front of a wall of concrete block by subway stairwell with her back facing the viewer. “Ice Spice” is written in graffiti font on the cover, as is “Y2K” which appears on a trash can beside her.

So far, Y2K is led by one single, “Gimme A Light,” which Ice Spice released last month. The track sampled Sean Paul’s 2002 hit “Gimme The Light” with a similar ode to dancefloors and weed, but with a spicy twist. Prior to that, she jumped on Cash Cobain and Bay Swag’s “Fisherrr” for a new remix and released “Think U The Sh*t (Fart)” which she later confirmed was a Latto diss.

Ice Spice Gets Her Own New York City Metrocards Amid “Y2K” Rollout

Ice Spice is going to be dropping a new album very shortly, called Y2K. Overall, this is going to be her debut album, and fans are excited to see what she is going to be able to do with this. However, her most recent single “Gimmie A Light” turned out to be a disappointment for a lot of people. It didn’t hit how they wanted it to, and some of the lyrics were questionable at best. That said, there is still time for perceptions to change, and there are going to be a whole lot more tracks on the project.

In the lead up to this album, Ice Spice is doing all of the right things from a marketing standpoint. For instance, she just came out with her very own Metrocard in New York City. Overall, Metrocards are a staple in the city and now, some of them will have Spice’s face on them. There are 50,000 being produced, and yesterday, fans came out in droves to try and cop some. These are now collector’s items, and it is clear that regardless of the music, Spice is still managing to drum up hype and interest.
