Singer-songwriter Victoria Monét offered a moment of transparency this morning following last night’s VMAs. While Monét did make an appearance at the star-studded award show, fans couldn’t help but ask why she was spotted among the audience rather than gracing the stage with a performance. The R&B sensation took to social media to graciously thank her fans and shed more light on why she wasn’t invited to perform at the award show. “I see your advocation for me to have performed tonight and I’m so grateful to you!!,” Victoria began. “Sincerely! My team was told it is ‘too early in my story’ for that opportunity so we will keep working! I’m grateful for YOU, for my tour starting this Friday and for the ability to see some of my favorite people perform tonight and receive the love they so deserve!!!”
However, her fans felt differently and felt as though she’s had a successful year and should have performed. “Thats bullshit she got the #1 song right now and she been makin music for years,” one user wrote. “This exactly why I don’t look at these award shows. I need a better reason why she was not on stage last night,” wrote another.
Monét is fresh off the release of her recent album JAGUAR II. The project has been met with industry-wide support, largely thanks to her single “On My Mama” going viral on TikTok, which helped Victoria make her debut on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Furthermore, the singer seems to have plenty of things that don’t concern the VMAs to keep her occupied, especially in the coming months. She’s set to embark on a nationwide tour in support of her latest album JAGUAR II. She’ll be on the road for 22 dates, hitting major cities such as Los Angeles, Toronto, and Atlanta before closing out in Chicago in October.
Lastly, Victoria Monét has opened up in previous interviews about her creative mindset during the project. In an interview with Ebro Darden on Apple Music 1, she admitted: “I was really having a hard time. I had postpartum depression, I was still breastfeeding, just adjusting to the life, but also in the midst of COVID. So we’re in a pandemic, everything’s a little bit risky, scary to even be in the studio with a child. And ‘On My Mama’ was the first record I did that I actually liked. But it came while I was in a place of disbelief in what I was actually saying. So it’s almost like I had to speak it into existence.”
Sukihana fired back at her haters on social media, Wednesday, after her recent antics at the MTV Video Music Awards. While walking the red carpet at the event, she got down and twerked on all fours. Videos of the moment have since been circulating on social media. Many users online weren’t happy with the behavior.
One person online wrote: “I just had a daughter, I’m sorry I look at things much differently now and I would hate to see her acting like this. As grown man with values, businesses & a strong knowledge of what’s important, this type of behavior or woman doesn’t even attract me. Bring back class, respect & dignity. Now I’m about to get back to selling these vending machines while listening to A Long Walk by Jill Scott.” In response to the criticism, Sukihana wrote back: “Shut the hell up.”

Former reality show star Deelishis also had a negative response to the move. “Too many outdoor shoes been on that carpet buttercup,” she wrote along with mask face emojis. Sukihana shot back: “Girl you was sleeping with Flavor [Flav] you ain’t scared of nothing.” From there, Deelishis apologized for possibly offending. “First off let me start off by saying to Sukihana I apologize if my comment upset or offended you,” Deelishis wrote on Instagram. “I should have said ‘you too fine for that flo’ which is a much more precise way of describing what I thought when I saw the post or even better not comment at all.”
Sukihana wasn’t the only one to turn heads at the VMAs. Cardi B and Offset also made headlines for pretending to have sex in the bathroom in a clip posted on Instagram during the night.
Ashanti confirmed that she and Nelly are back together while walking the red carpet at the MTV Video Music Awards on Tuesday night. While carrying a clutch with the rapper’s face on it, she remarked to PEOPLE: “We’re in a great space, everything is positive, we’re having a lot of fun.” She also teased that they may collaborate on new music together.
The confirmation comes after Nelly recently spoke about him and Ashanti being back together again. He opened up about their relationship during an interview with Love and Hip Hop’s Rasheeda for her Boss Moves podcast.

“Yeah, we cool again,” he admitted when asked about their situation. “I think it surprised both of us, though. It wasn’t anything that …[was] planned. I think we’re both pretty much doing what we do. Sometimes being separate you understand one another more. You could be like, ‘Yo, let me see exactly what they see.’ You know, because we all can be defensive sometimes in our own relationships. And we know we wrong but we going to stand on it. But we all a victim to that.”
Nelly added that this time around, there’s “no pressure.” He continued: “Before I felt like both of us are doing what we’re doing career-wise and when you got so many people in the middle of it, it could be tough.” Nelly and Ashanti originally began dating back in 2003 and stayed together for a decade before splitting up. Rumors of their rekindled romance made headlines in December 2022, when Ashanti joined Nelly on stage at Power 98.3 and 96.1’s Under the Mistletoe show in Arizona. Last night MTV hosted the VMAs and the cameras absolutely couldn’t get enough of Selena Gomez. All night they panned to the actress and singer to get her reactions to whatever was going on. That created funny moments like her confused face and later covering up her ears during Olivia Rodrigo’s performance. But while a lot of her reactions seemed to be in good faith, one in particular caught fans attention for feeling particularly authentic.
During the Best R&B Award the cameras were once again tuned in on Gomez. One of the nominees was Chloe’s track “How Does It Feel” from her debut solo album In Pieces earlier this year. The song features Chris Brown, which got Chloe in some pretty hot water. Despite the controversy he brings with him everywhere he goes, the song received a nomination. But when it’s nomination was being announced the cameras just happened to catch Selena Gomez reacting to it. Now according to TMZ Selena is responding to the quick meme status of her reaction. She took to her Instagram story to share a short message to fans. “I will never be a meme again. I’d rather sit still than be dragged for being myself. Much love,” the brief statement reads. She doesn’t deny her reaction to Brown’s nomination, simply expressing her dissatisfaction with it becoming a meme.

One of the biggest evenings in music went down without a hitch last night (September 12), as the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) were the talk of the industry. Hundreds of stars descended on the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, to celebrate the year’s highlights in all things music and pop culture. This year was particularly special for the Barbz, as Nicki Minaj hosted the star-studded event.
Of course, MTV made sure to make Minaj feel as welcome as possible, as the VMA logo was even changed to her favorite shade of pink. The performances were also hot topics of conversations across social media, which included the likes of Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion as a duo, Doja Cat, Lil Wayne, Future, Metro Boomin, Nav, Swae Lee, and a Diddy Global Icon Medley, led by Sean Combs, himself. Additionally, the Hip Hop 50th Medley saw some of the genre’s greats take to the stage. Doug E. Fresh, LL Cool J, Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five, and DMC were just a few who joined for an epic celebration. Minaj also lent her talents to the show, where she even previewed a track set to be featured on her anticipated forthcoming album, Pink Friday 2.
Prior to the event kicking off, the red carpet was sizzling with our favorite entertainers’ hottest looks. They were dissected, praised, and critiqued online—some more than others. Although Ashanti was flying solo for the night, she made sure her boo Nelly was present, with a picture of the couple printed on her clutch purse. Doja’s web-like gown turned heads, and Offset’s hair clips were a cultural statement, while Weezy and Lil Uzi Vert kept things simple—yet expensive—with their ‘fits. Saweetie’s bone-accessory gown had social media calling her dress Flintstone’s Fashion, but it was Yung Miami’s red carpet display that stole the show. Cardi B says that her mother inspired her look for the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards. She shared the original inspiration from her mother in her 20s on her Instagram Story, Wednesday. In the post, she puts a side-by-side of her VMA’s performance next to the throwback photo.
“My momma in her 20s vibe,” Cardi captioned the post. At the awards ceremony, she and Megan Thee Stallion performed their new single, “Bongos.” ”I’ma throw it back like it’s Thursday / I got cake, I’m lit, it’s my birthday,” they rapped through the chorus.

Cardi is a mother of two in her own right. She shares both daughter Kulture Kiari Cephus, 5, and son Wave Set Cephus, 2, with Offset. Just earlier this week, she shared some advice for new mother Chrisean Rock. “Whenever you start feeling emotional, you might not think it’s postpartum, but it’s postpartum,” she said during an interview with TMZ. “When that happens, go outside, take a breather, go drink some coffee, go eat some lunch on your own. Cardi’s VMAs appearance comes as she’s begun teasing her long-awaited sophomore album. During a recent interview with Ebro in the Morning, Cardi confirmed that the project will be dropping in 2024. “You know what? I was indecisive but I was like, you know what? I should already start talking about the album because I’m going to be putting it out very soon,” she said on the show. “But it’s like I have to watch it because I always feel like somebody watching me — it’s going to come out when it’s going to come out.”
While many fans were focused on the performances and awards given out during last night’s VMAs, that wasn’t the only thing getting people’s attention. As with many award shows, the fashion was also a big highlight. Stars took a walk down the VMA’s trademark pink carpet showing off a variety of flashy fits for the night. But for some artists, it wasn’t just about what they were wearing. For Yung Miami, her scant black dress had fans talking about something entirely different, a potential baby bump.
While some pregnancy speculation by fans online can be extremely toxic, Miami is leaning into the intrigue. A fan online tracked down one particular picture of the rapper that they thought might be a good example of her baby bump and tweeted it. “Is caresha pregnant?” the tweet reads further spreading the rumors of a potential baby. Last night the Video Music Awards took place and Nicki Minaj served as the host. She actually doubled as MC for the night and also a performer, taking part in the show’s 50th-anniversary tribute to hip-hop. She was a fitting choice after serving as one of three MCs for the night last year while also giving a major performance. Nicki was last year’s winner of the night’s biggest honor, the Video Vanguard award. This year that award went to Shakira and she also brought an absolutely massive performance to the stage.
While all seemed mostly well during the show on camera, a new clip from backstage tells a different story. “not Nicki Minaj almost throwing hands before her VMA performance,” the caption of a newly shared video reads. Though the clip is short, you can pretty clearly see that Minaj is bothered by something and appears to be close to getting physical with somebody backstage. All night there seemed to be videos popping up from backstage of artists letting their anger out. Lil Wayne had his security prevent MTV cameras from filming him holding hands with a mystery woman. Even Megan Thee Stallion and Justin Timberlake seemed to get into it in a viral clip, though they ultimately shut down any beef rumors in a TikTok.
During her performance last night, Nicki treated fans to a tease of her upcoming albumPink Friday 2. The project is slated to release later this year and was led off by a heartfelt new single earlier this month. “Last Time I Saw You” had already connected with fans racking up 13 million streams and debuting at number 23 on the Hot 100.

Last night was the VMAs and there were a ton of massive artists at the event. Overall, this is one of those awards shows that both the artists and the fans love. There have been some iconic moments at the Video Music Awards over the years, and that has not changed. When it comes to female rapper representation, there was a ton last night. For instance, Nicki Minaj was the host. Moreover, the likes of Doja Cat, Megan Thee Stallion, Cardi B, and even Ice Spice were also there. Furthermore, we also got to see none other than Saweetie.
In terms of clothing, Saweetie definitely had one of the more interesting looks of the entire evening. Below, you can see that she had on a pink dress that matched the theme of the carpet. Additionally, there was a huge bone sticking through the dress up near the collar. In the eyes of many, this was something that could be compared to The Flinstones. Although we imagine that is exactly what Saweetie was going for when she put the look together.
Unfortunately, in the video above, you can see how the artist ended up having an embarrassing blunder while reading from a teleprompter. This subsequently led to criticism throughout social media. That’s why there are so many cameras to catch moments like a backstage interaction between Megan Thee Stallion and Justin Timberlake. What looked like a heated argument between the two turned out to not be so dramatic, but the cameras also made headlines for what they didn’t film.
Lil Wayne was a staple throughout the show last night. Most notably he opened up the festivities with a rousing performance of his track “Uproar.” But at some point in the night when the cameras tried to follow him backstage, his security prevented them. The security first puts his hand up to get the cameraperson to stop filming. When that doesn’t work he physically points the camera away from Wayne. The reason for the diversion appears to be a mystery woman that the rapper was holding hands with backstage. Later on in the night, Lil Wayne was also part of the newest tribute to rap music’s 50th anniversary. In a grand showing of love for the genre he was joined by Nicki Minaj, LL Cool J, DMC, Doug E Fresh, Slick Rich, and Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five for a tribute that spanned decades of hip-hops past, present, and future.
The VMAs aren’t the only place in recent weeks to honor Lil Wayne as a legend in rap. Earlier this month he received the BMI Icon Award. During the ceremony, he was honored by NLE Choppa, and Big Freedia. Afterward, he was given his flowers by none other than Nicki Minaj.
