How Did Tyla & Travis Scott’s ‘Water’ Remix Come Together?

Tyla is on fire with her breakthrough single “Water,” which peaked at No. 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 last week. In mid-November, the South African artist added to the song’s sprawling influence with a remix featuring Travis Scott last month. And on Wednesday, December 6, Complex shared an interview with Tyla in which she explained how the eye-popping collaboration came together.

“I didn’t really think of doing a remix,” she said. “I was like, ‘Nah, like, let’s just have ‘Water.’ It’s cool. Whatever.’ But then, people were reaching out, and I was like, ‘Oh my word, oh my word.’ And I started getting excited, and then Travis reached out, and I literally couldn’t — like, I could not say no. His music is crazy. I’ve always loved his sound and just his vibe in general. So after he reached out, we sent him that open verse, and he came back and he killed it, you know. He killed it.”

Tyla and Scott’s “Water” remix will be on Tyla’s self-titled debut album, due out March 1, 2024. She will also embark on a self-titled headlining tour, beginning in Oslo, Norway on March 21, 2024 and snaking through Europe before staging a North American leg from April 22 to May 28.

“Everything that’s happening has surpassed anything I could have dreamt of,” Tyla captioned her Instagram post announcing the album last week. “African music is going global and I’m so blessed to be one of the artists pushing the culture. I’ve been working on my sound for 2 years now and I’m so ready for the world to hear it. I cannot wait for the world to experience an African Popstar.”

Tyla Had A Feeling Drake Was Going To Follow Her Back On Social Media: “He’s Gonna Come”

Tyla has been rising through the ranks (and the charts) at a rapid rate over the past few months. It is due to her incredible singing talent that she displayed on her breakout hit single, “Water.” The song dropped back on July 28 and has continued to pile up the streams. It currently sits at over 217 million. Because of this Tyla’s hot summer-ready jam is now at the highest it has ever been on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, right at the tenth spot.

Additionally, the South African pop artist recently put out some remixes to the song to add some unique flavor. Travis Scott and EDM megstar producer, Marshmello, each have their versions. “Water” and its remix with the Houston rapper are going to be a part of her debut self-titled album. Apple Music says the LP will be out on March 1, 2024. Tyla gave some fans more to chew on sonically with promotional tracks “On and On,” “Butterflies,” and “Truth or Dare.”

At some point, Tyla was going to receive some co-signs from other popular artists. One of them was Drake. In a recent interview with Big Boy, the 21-year-old phenom was waiting for a follow back from the Canadian icon. “Definitely Drake because I was lowkey waiting for him. Because I knew he’s gonna come, he’s gonna come.” Sure enough, he did accept the request on Instagram. The comments underneath the post are making the running the joke that whenever a new female artist begins to pop off, he keeps tabs on them for about a year and then unfollows them. One person says, “She knows that Drake follows every new girlie that takes off in the business just like we know! 🤣😂” Another goes, “He bouta unfollow her when he sees this w his sassy self.”

Tyla also hinted at some material coming with him, but she said, ‘I’m silenced.” What are your initial thoughts on these comments by Tyla? Tyla Teases A Threesome Of Tracks From Her Upcoming Debut “TYLA”

Sounds that have originated from South Africa have been dominating radio stations, streaming platforms, and playlists. It seems that 2023 has been the year of genres like Afropop, amapiano, house, and Afro house. Honestly, it is a refreshing thing to see. While hip-hop has been near the top for awhile, its been a bit of a slower year, especially for the mainstream artists. So, its the best case scenario for artists like Tyla to emerge and show off what she has to offer.

It is safe to say the South African-born singer has plenty of talent at her disposal. Her ability to hit all sorts of notes is pretty effortless. Many listeners got a taste of that on her viral hit, “Water.” The single recently shot up to the number 10 slot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Due to its meteoric rise, remixes with Marshmello and Travis Scott have recently released. Now, Tyla is looking to build on this popularity with a handful of new cuts.

Tyla Challenges A Man To Step Up His Game On Her New Single, ‘Truth Or Dare’

South African Afro-fusion singer Tyla has made quite the wave this year. The global sensation just reached the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100 with her breakthrough single, “Water.” Tonight (December 1), Tyla followed up with an equally catchy and groovy single.

On her new song, “Truth Or Dare,” Tyla revisits a past lover, however, she is older, wiser, and more principled this time around. She lays down the law, and informs him that she won’t fall for his charm so easily again.

“So let’s play truth or dare / Dare you to forget that you used to treat me just like anyone / Truth or dare? Is it true you care? / Now that you can see the love from everyone,” she sings on the song’s chorus.

“Truth Of Dare” follows the announcement of Tyla’s self-titled debut album, which she announced via social media yesterday.

“Everything that’s happening has surpassed anything I could have dreamt of,” she said in the post’s caption. “African music is going global and I’m so blessed to be one of the artists pushing the culture. I’ve been working on my sound for 2 years now and I’m so ready for the world to hear it.”

You can listen to “Truth Or Dare” above.
