Bossman Dlow is someone who is gaining more and more attention as the days pass. The reason for his recent rise up the ranks is due to his single “Get In With Me.” It has become an overnight sensation, racking up streams and fans. The song currently sits at over six million streams on Spotify and was also in the top five on the Top 100 chart for Apple Music. His convincing and unique flows are very ear grabbing and he is looking to continue that. He did so for us on “Mr Pot Scraper” which released just last week. Because of this newfound fame, Bossman Dlow is getting interviewed about the genre and the fashion trends within it.

One of the controversial things happening in hip-hop has to be the odd clothing choices. We have seen rappers like Kanye West and Playboi Carti rocking unique masks as of late. Lil Uzi Vert, Tyler, The Creator, and Young Thug are always rocking crazy outfits. Thugger pulled off a baby blue dress pretty well back in 2016 for the JEFFERY LP.

ASICS GEL-Kayano 14 "Metallic Plum"

If there is one thing that separates Y2K-style sneakers from other shoes, it would have to be the inclusion of lots of silver and chrome. With the Asics Gel-Kayano 14 “Metallic Plum,” that is exactly what we get. The base of the shoe is creamy beige, however, the overlays are a phenomenal shade of silver. There is a very clear aesthetic here, and we think a lot of sneakerheads will appreciate it. (Image via Stadium Goods)

Saucony Progrid Triumph 4 “Otherworld”

Lauryn Hill Trends After Late Arrival To 2023 Essence Festival

Lauryn Hill has been trending on Twitter after arriving late to her performance at the 2023 Essence Festival. She took on the fest yesterday (June 30), at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans. Hill performed songs from 1998’s, The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, in celebration of the Grammy-winning LP’s 25-year-anniversary. Her set also featured Fugees’ group mate Wyclef Jean as a special guest.

It appears that fans aren’t too bothered by Ms. Hill’s arrival time based on social media chatter, though some complain that her tardiness had them fighting to stay awake for the late-night set. “I know we make our jokes about L Boogie always being late but listen, when she sang ‘The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill,’ something inside me moved,” one user writes on Twitter. Overall, fans are saying her show was one for the books, and certainly worth waiting for.

2022 Apparel Trends

In any given year, you can expect apparel trends to be wildly different than the previous year. This is ultimately because tastes are constantly changing and fluctuating. Additionally, influencers are oftentimes doing their own thing, and then eventually, others follow suit.

Throughout 2022, there is no doubt that the trends were peculiar, yet interesting. Every single year, Alias comes out with its Seller Report, which comes with a plethora of unique data points on consumer trends. Subsequently, we now know that fashion trends such as Barbiecore, Y2K, Utility, and Vintage were all the rage this year.

Moreover, there were some big brands that stole the show. For instance, Jerry Lorenzo’s Fear of God Essentials has proven to be the biggest apparel brand in the entire world. This is based on two metrics: want, and sales.

Furthermore, Sp5der is receiving a considerable amount of praise this year as it is growing at an extraordinary rate. According to Alias’ report, the brand is seeing a 918 percent increase in sales, year over year. Needless to say, it is good time to be getting into Sp5der.

What Is Barbiecore?

First off, you may be asking yourself, what even is Barbiecore? Well, what do you think of when you picture a Barbie doll? Pink probably immediately comes to mind. By making a few simple deductions, you would come to the conclusion that Barbiecore is all about pushing an unrelenting bright pink aesthetic. Hot pink is especially popular within this style, and throughout 2022, consumers couldn’t get enough of this look.

If you need an example of what this aesthetic looks like, look no further than this pink hoodie from Sp5der. The piece features some loud graphics on the front, while the base of the hoodie has a hot pink hue. Overall, it is a cool piece that is available in numerous sizes.

Y2K Apparel

The term Y2K is typically associated with that bizarre time period in which we thought the new millennium would kill us all. Of course, nuclear annihilation never happened, however, the fashion trends were quite unique. The 2000s brought forth this desire to jump into the future, while also maintaining 90s sensibilities. As a result, Y2K apparel is typically loud yet baggy. Moreover, it can also be shiny, which speaks to futuristic sensibilities.

Overall, 2022 has proven to be a huge year for the Y2K look. After all, it has been 20 years since the turn of the century. For those of you out there who want to get in on this trend, these wide-leg jeans from Marni are a great start. They are currently available in a wide variety of sizes.

Utility

The utility trend is one that certainly speaks for itself. We have seen this coming over the years as numerous brands continue to add utilitarian elements to their clothing. One could just look at the Travis Scott Air Jordan 1 and 6 to see what we are talking about.

Additionally, another new aesthetic is called gorpcore. Jason Chen of The Cut actually popularized the phrase, which meant to be short for “good ol’ raisins and peanuts.” The point here is that now, hiking gear and “outdoorsmenship” have gone high fashion. Numerous brands are coming through with their own takes on gorpcore, including Supreme and The North Face who came through with a unique Gore-Tex Fleece. Currently, this piece is selling on the secondary market for prices between $1,000 and $1,800.

Vintage Apparel

Speaking of trends that also speak for themself, we finish off this list with some good old vintage. According to Alias, vintage letterman jackets have seen a year-over-year desire increase of 96 percent. Furthermore, vintage tees have increased in sales by 312 percent.

These pieces are characterized by their large graphics, unique color schemes, and references to pop culture. Anything that harkens back to the past can be considered “vintage.” One notable piece of vintage is this BAPE x Mitchell & Ness Yankees jacket from 2018. The blue colorway is gorgeous and will complement any fit nicely.

The Most Viewed TikTok Videos of 2022

We all indulge in our own TikTok world- with algorithms that are custom tailored to our individual palates. Though TikTok does not offer a personalized recap of the year, it does provide data about overall users’ most-watched videos of the year. These videos may not be your particular favorites, but they are at least the most popular.

As the hype of Spotify Wrapped has already begun to mellow, looking back at the most viewed TikTok’s of 2022 brings back memories that make us want to laugh, cringe, cry- or all of the above.

The Large Chocolate Giraffe

@amauryguichon

Chocolate Giraffe! 🦒This 8.3ft tall 100% chocolate sculpture is my biggest creation yet. #amauryguichon #chocolate #giraffe

♬ dream river. – Woong Sun Hee

This video, uploaded by TikTok user @amaurygichon, displays the construction process of sculpting a very large giraffe out of chocolate. To be exact, the sculpture is 8.3 feet tall and 100% chocolate. Guichon is a trained pastry chef from France and although this is indeed his largest work, he has also sculpted dragons, cellos, and a 150-pound shark out of chocolate.

Squishy the Chipmunk Returns

@chipmunksoftiktok

Thank you God my little Squishy is back from hibernation, fill the cheeks my sweet baby #fyp #welcomeback #cuteanimals #cute #chipmunks #squishy

♬ original sound – Chipmunks of TikTok

Uploaded by TikTok user @chipmunksoftiktok, this video of a chipmunk named Squishy documents his hungry return from hibernation. Squishy gnawed on more than a few peanuts and generated quite a fanbase. The top comment on the post says, “that’s Alvin chipmunks😅,” which leaves room for interpretation, as it is not entirely clear what that means. Either way people love Squishy.

Rosalía Chewing Gum

The Rosalía Challenge spread through TikTok like a wildfire. The challenge originated from a video of the singer walking onstage and chewing gum while performing her song “Bizcochito” at a 2022 concert. Eventually, the trend was picked up by all sides of TikTok to voice opinions on different topics or simply have a deadpan staredown with the camera while chewing gum.

The “Jiggle Jiggle” One

In March, Duke and Jones uploaded a remix of documentarian Louis Theroux rapping a cappella in an interview, which threw the internet into a frenzy.  Theroux’s rhymes were made into a viral sensation with the help of  a remix by the Mississippi rap duo Reese and Bigalow. The “Jiggle Jiggle” TikTok dance Riverdale cast members are doing here was born out of England and is not complete without the unamused facial expressions.

“I’m Just a Baby!”

On February 19th, @little.blooming.women posted an adorably relatable video of her child anxiously (and then irritably) saying “I’m just a baby,” in response to her mothers orders. The video united users all over TikTok who felt exactly the same and thought the child’s response might be the most perfect one out there.

The Corn Kid Video

@schmoyoho

intro song for any meal/snack with corn 🌽 – from iconic interview on @doingthings

♬ It’s Corn – Tariq & The Gregory Brothers & Recess Therapy

Tariq, second-grader and intense corn enthusiast earned a New York Time Profile this year for his adorable love for corn and ability to produce catchy sound bites. @schmoyoho is not new to virality as you may remember him from the ”Songify the News” series on Youtube around the 2016 election. With a mixture of the  Corn Kid remix and “Chrissy Wake Up,” @schmoyoho knows how to rule TikTok.

Lizzo, The Choreographer

@lizzo

I would’ve given my left coochie lip to be at the spring awakening reunion show 😭

♬ About Damn Time – Lizzo

Lizzo was tired of seeing people hit the steps to her song “About Damn Time” wrong and decided to take matters into her own hands. She yells at amateurs to set the record straight on how the dance is actually supposed to be executed, leaving no room for excuses. You either got it or you don’t. Thank you for the corrections Lizzo!

High School Musical Reveal

For two-minutes straight choir teacher Miles Finn, who is based in Iowa, revealed the school musical to his students. They all excitedly sit and watch his introduction, reminding us the importance and wholesomeness of arts education. Finn told Good Morning America, “I decided to throw a little bait and switch in there and have the musical that we were doing … actually not up on the board, [which] really threw them for a loop.” The musical ended up being The Addams Family, very fitting based on Netflix’s new drop.

Helping Tom Get Back on His Feet

@jimmydarts

Tom is no longer homeless and now has a full time job that he loves ❤

♬ original sound – Jimmy Darts

In this viral video, Jimmy Darts got a homeless man named Tom, a job doing something that he loves. Tom told Jimmy, “I love it! I wish I could sleep down here! Coming down to work is the most important thing. It’s a great place to work! It feels wonderful.”  $20,000 was raised on his behalf by a friend as a testament to the power of community care. This genre of TikTok has been popularized by creator Isaiah Garza who was a formerly unhoused youth from a Mexican immigrant family. His advocacy for the unhoused and for performing “random acts of kindness—like giving a stranger a new phone, or taking a 97-year-old World War II veteran to Disney,” has touched hearts all across TikTok.

Lava vs. Ice

So-called “satisfying” videos are all over TikTok. From slime and ASMR to experiments like this one, the top 10 list would not be complete without this destruction video. This experiment showcases what happens to ice and lava when they are placed in direct contact with one another. You’ll have to watch to find out who wins.
