Travis Scott Is Being Sued For Allegedly Causing A Stampede At Rolling Loud In 2019

Travis Scott, already facing hundreds of lawsuits for the Astroworld Festival disaster in November 2021, now faces even more legal trouble over his wild performances. According to TMZ, the Houston rapper has been named in a new lawsuit accusing him of causing a stampede during his set at Rolling Loud Miami in 2019. Marchelle Love, the plaintiff, says that she was injured after Travis whipped up fans at his set into a frenzy despite the advice of the police, who spoke to him either before or during his set.

According to Love’s lawsuit, Travis could see people being hurt but continued his set as normal, ignoring warnings from security to slow things down. Love claims that her leg was broken during the mayhem — something that could have been avoided if the rapper had listened to security. Meanwhile, because his shows had previously resulted in injuries — such as a 2017 show in New York where a fan ended up paralyzed after being encouraged to jump from a balcony — Love argues that the rapper should know better than to goad fans the way he does.

A spokesperson for Travis Scott told TMZ, “This is another blatant, cynical attempt to attack Travis, in this instance for a 3-year-old incident that is deliberately misrepresented… This cheap opportunism is based on a blatant lie that’s easy to detect. And it is particularly telling that this plaintiff’s lawyer didn’t even assert a claim against Travis when he originally filed the complaint on behalf of his client more than two years ago or in four prior VERSIONS of that complaint.”

Unfortunately for Travis, the issue is a bit murkier when it comes to Astroworld Festival, where 10 people died and hundreds were injured. That case still has yet to proceed to trial but carries huge potential implications for the rapper — and others. Meanwhile, his return to performing at Primavera Sound in Brazil later this year will undoubtedly be under increased scrutiny as a result of all that attention.

According to a report from TMZ, rapper Travis Scott has decided to give Black college students a large monetary incentive to become graduates.

According to the report, Scott awarded $1 million in scholarships to 100 students at HBCUs that are slated to walk across the stage in 2022. Scott’s Waymon Webster Scholarship Fund will be donating $10K to each student who finish off their scholastic career with at least a 3.5 GPA.

Scott’s donations went to 38 HBCU seniors from Alabama A&M University, Central State University, Jackson State University, Morehouse College, Texas Southern University, Grambling State University, Xavier University of Louisiana, and Prairie View A&M University.

The scholarships are a part of Scott’s Project HEAL, which was established in the wake of the Astroworld tragedy, which took ten lives and injured numerous others.

Travis Scott Donated $1 Million In Scholarships To Black Students At HBCUs

A few months ago, Travis Scott was still living under the radar following the tragedy that took place at his 2021 Astroworld Festival. That incident resulted in ten deaths and nearly 5,000 injuries as well as nearly $3 billion in lawsuits. While many have placed a majority of the blame on Travis for the tragedy, others like the rapper himself feel otherwise. It’s probably why Travis began a slow return to the spotlight, one he completed with his recent performance at the 2021 Billboard Music Awards. Travis has also used the last few months to give back to the community, something he recently did with a donation to college students.

According to TMZ, Travis donated $1 million in scholarships to 100 students enrolled at HBCUs across the country. The students all are set to graduate with the Class of 2022, so his contribution ensures that students are able to do so without running into financial troubles in the near future or further down the line. The upcoming graduates, who finished their final semester with a GPA of 3.5 or higher, will each receive a $10,000 scholarship from Travis’ Waymon Webster Scholarship Fund.

In total, the scholarships were handed out to seniors at 38 schools which include Alabama A&M University, Central State University, Jackson State University, Morehouse College, Texas Southern University, Grambling State University, and more. The $1 million in scholarships are also a part of Travis’ Project HEAL initiative which he launched in March with a $5 million donation to community-based programs.

Travis Scott Performs ‘Mafia’ At The 2022 Billboard Music Awards, His First Awards Show Since Astroworld

Travis Scott has been returning to the stage after the Astroworld tragedy that happened in November. Information about injuries is still coming out; only a few days ago, a woman filed a lawsuit against Scott because of a miscarriage she experienced after the festival. Still, the rapper performed at the Billboard Music Awards after Diddy, advocated for him. “I am uncanceling the canceled,” he explained in an interview. “There will be no canceling on my watch. Love is about forgiveness… so that was why it was important for me to have Travis Scott perform. It’s going to be a great night.”

He performed the song “Mafia” with a bright, futuristic stage setup that’s aligned with the aesthetic of his forthcoming album Utopia, which does not yet have a release date. Fans in the comments praise Scott for seemingly working on his vocals, which sound more trained than they used to.

Aside from this performance, he also recently played a club in Miami where tickets at the door were $300 for men and $200 for women. He is also set to make his headlining festival return, with a spot on the roster for the Brazilian festival Primavera Sound in November.
