Tory Lanez TikTok Trend Gets Backlash Online

The case of Tory Lanez has been one of the biggest scandals in hip-hop in recent years, also owed to the fact that it involves fellow MC Megan Thee Stallion on the other side of the courtroom. After years of back-and-forth, the court will sentence the Canadian artist on August 7. However, he popped up in pop culture in unconventional ways since, namely a recent TikTok trend. As such, a lot of users engaging in it are facing criticism online for not knowing that they’re promoting the convicted artist’s unreleased music with that trend. The unreleased song in question is called “Hurts Me,” and has been used a lot outside of the trend itself, as well.

Furthermore, the trend consists of a “striking face” filter that comically enlarges eyes and lips with a five o’clock shadow. The original audio has 125,000 uses in other videos, with most of them uploaded in the past three days alone. If you search for the song on social media, you will find an avalanche of fans begging for its release- and Tory’s, for that matter. However, when it comes to people using the trend without knowing it’s him, blog Daily Dot brought up the example of previously unreleased tracks that trended eventually becoming big hits.

Tory Lanez’s Unreleased Track “Hurts Me” In TikTok Trend

Of course, hardcore Tory Lanez fans will likely continue to share their love for the song and the artist regardless. However, the article and some Twitter users pointed out that this only gives Tory and his ream more reason to eventually drop the song and profit off of it. “Why have you lot made a Tory Lanez song trend on TikTok, have we learnt nothing,” one user tweeted. Still, many users also expressed that you can still love the song and understand why the 30-year-old should be behind bars. It’s a murky situation, but a personal one at the end of the day. No song is a “Get Out Of Jail Free” card, after all.

Meanwhile, Lanez’s team recently failed to dismiss and disqualify the judge who ruled against his motion for a new trial. In addition, he and DaBaby faced accusations of trying to ambush one of Meg’s performances. With each new development, the case seems to get wilder and wilder, but fans are still dead-set on wanting “Hurts Me” to see the light of day. Tory Lanez’s Sentencing Hearing Was Rescheduled Because His Attorneys Were Too Busy Trying To Get A New Trial

Tory Lanez’s sentencing for shooting Megan Thee Stallion has been delayed by the request of his defense attorneys, according to freelance journalist Meghann Cuniff. After prosecutors recommended 13 years in prison, citing Tory’s plans to antagonize Megan in the lead-up to the trial, including trying to crash her 2021 Rolling Loud Miami set with DaBaby, Judge David Herriford granted a continuance in order to allow time for Tory’s attorneys to argue for a shorter sentence.

Tory was found guilty in December 2022 of shooting Meg in the summer of 2020 after a disagreement. Although Tory maintained his innocence in the intervening three years, he also failed to present a reasonable alternative explanation for the bullet fragments in Megan’s feet — and his defense’s star witness ended up confirming that it was Tory who held the gun all along. But the impetus behind prosecutors’ insistence on such a harsh sentence stemmed more from Tory’s actions after the shooting.

During the trial, Meg admitted that she wished Tory had actually killed her because of the harassment she received in the years leading up to the trial. During that time, social media users expressed doubt in her account of the events leading to her being shot (and indeed, that she was even shot in the first place, despite medical professionals confirming the bullet fragments left in her feet after surgery), and even called her an outright liar — all goaded by Tory, who claimed in his music and online that he was being framed.

Tory’s attempts to dodge accountability have included requesting a new trial (denied), trying to have the judge disqualified, and hiring Suge Knight’s old lawyer to file an appeal. A new sentencing date has been scheduled for August 7.

DaBaby And Tory Lanez Reportedly Planned To Crash Megan Thee Stallion’s Set At Rolling Loud 2021

In addition to recommending a 13-year prison sentence for Tory Lanez after he was convicted of shooting Megan Thee Stallion in 2020, Los Angeles prosecutors have also accused the Toronto rapper of attempting to crash his victim’s 2021 Rolling Loud Miami set with the help of DaBaby.

While that festival remains infamous for DaBaby’s onstage comments that cost him numerous other festival slots and corporate endorsements, it was also notable that the Charlotte rapper brought Tory Lanez onstage to perform their new collaboration, drawing the ire of Megan Thee Stallion fans who saw it as an act of disloyalty after Meg had collaborated multiple times with DaBaby.

Now, according to the memo filed LA District Attorneys requesting a 13-year sentence for Lanez due to his lack of remorse for his actions, it appears that DaBaby and Tory’s original plan was even worse. While it was previously reported that Tory and DaBaby had entered the green room, violating Meg’s restraining order against Tory, the memo asserts that they “attempted to rush the stage during her performance.”

Whatever they planned to do after that remains unclear because they were prevented from disrupting her performance. Instead, DaBaby introduced Tory during his own set, where they performed “Skat.” After this, Megan Thee Stallion fell out with DaBaby, whose own popularity took a nosedive due to his antics over the next several months — including his own juvenile attempt to use their prior relationship for clout on his song “Boogeyman.” On the song, he alleges that he also had a sexual relationship with Meg, which could explain his partnership with Tory, even after Tory was accused of shooting her.

Tory’s sentencing hearing is scheduled for Tuesday, June 13.

Tory Lanez Attempt To Get Judge Disqualified Is Rejected

Tory Lanez, the disgraced rapper, has exhausted all his options for freedom. He is now awaiting his sentencing in the shooting case involving Megan Thee Stallion. Lanez and his team attempted to have the judge disqualified. However, a new order was handed down today rejecting that request. Judge David Herriford initially stated that there were no facts or circumstances requiring his disqualification or recusal in the case. The Appellate Court also confirmed that the judge had done nothing to warrant his removal. The Appellate Court’s decision stated that the petition was denied due to a failure to demonstrate entitlement to extraordinary relief.

Earlier, Lanez’s lawyers, Matthew Barhoma and Jose Baez, filed a motion to disqualify Judge Herriford. They had accused him of showing favoritism to the prosecution. Herriford presided over Lanez’s two-week trial in December. As most know, it resulted in his conviction on three felony counts related to the 2020 shooting of Megan Thee Stallion. The judge also denied Lanez’s motion for a new trial in May. In their petition, filed after the dismissal of their new trial motion, Barhoma and Baez cited several instances of Herriford’s alleged partiality during a hearing in the previous month. They claimed that the judge directed them to present arguments in the order he preferred. Additionally, they say he did not allow witnesses for live testimony and interrupted and cut them off during arguments.

Tory Lanez Could Be Facing 22 Years, Prosecution Seeking 12 Year Sentence

Prosecutors in Los Angeles are reportedly seeking a 13-year prison sentence for Tory Lanez. Lanez was convicted of three felony charges in December. The rapper could face a maximum sentence of 22 years and eight months. A memorandum filed by the prosecution highlights Lanez’s use of words and his online presence. They say that he has re-traumatized the victim through his posts over the course of three years. The memo argues that Lanez’s global reach and the impact of his words have contributed to the victim’s re-traumatization. As such, they want to hold him responsible for the effect of his actions. The document also mentions Lanez’s album, Daystar. It references the shooting in its lyrics. as well as his attack on August Alsina in September 2022.

The prosecution’s memo comes after Lanez and his legal team attempted to disqualify Judge David Herriford, accusing him of favoritism. Herriford presided over Lanez’s trial in December and recently rejected his motion for a new trial. In response to the accusations, Herriford stated that his rulings were based on presented facts and arguments and that his actions were in line with his judicial duties. Lanez’s sentencing is scheduled for June 13.

Tory Lanez Seeking To Disqualify Judge In Megan Thee Stallion Shooting Sentencing

megan thee stallion tory lanez

News reports have confirmed that attorneys for incarcerated Canadian rapper Tory Lanez have filed a motion to disqualify the judge that is set to preside over his sentencing hearing.

Jose Baez and Matthew Barhoma, attorneys for Lanez, filed a motion to disqualify L.A. County Superior Court Judge David Herriford, citing that the judge showed favoritism to the prosecution.

Baez and Barhoma gave multiple examples of the judge’s “partiality”in last month’s two-day hearing, stating,  “Conversely, the judge gave the People a full and fair opportunity to present argument uninterrupted, even when the case cited by the People did not stand for the proposition that they advanced.”

After the lawyers’ statement, the judge responded to their claims by saying, “I am not prejudiced or biased against or in favor of any party to this proceeding or their counsel.” The judge continued, “All statements made by me and all actions taken by me in this proceeding have been done in furtherance of what I believe were my judicial duties.”

Reportedly, the petition has not been addressed by the court at all and it hasn’t been noted if the court will look at it before Tory’s sentencing.

Sentencing for Tory Lanez is scheduled for June 13, 2023.

Tory Lanez May Serve 13 Years In Prison For Shooting Megan Thee Stallion If Prosecutors Get Their Way

Los Angeles prosecutors want Tory Lanez to serve 13 years in prison for shooting Megan Thee Stallion. According to independent journalist Meghann Cuniff, who has covered the court case from the very beginning, a memorandum filed Tuesday (June 6) by prosecutors expressed a wish for the court to consider the Canadian rapper’s alleged “campaign of misinformation” against his victim in his eventual sentencing.

The memo reads, “Words have power and the pen is oftentimes mightier than the sword. In this case, Daystar Peterson (Tory’s real name) used both. Not content to have hurt the victim by use of his sword (gun), he also used his pen. His online posts for nearly three years have re-traumatized the victim.”

The memo also cites Tory’s own comments, which “emboldened” both his followers and casual observers to harass Megan online and cast doubt on his role in the 2021 shooting; his “full-length album with several songs about the shooting” [Daystar]; and his attack on fellow singer August Alsina in Chicago in September 2022 as examples of his lack of remorse. Despite his alleged efforts to affect the outcome of the trial, a jury found him guilty of assault with a firearm, concealing a loaded, unregistered firearm in a vehicle, and discharging a firearm with gross negligence in December 2022.

Tory filed to have the trial declared a mistrial in March, but a judge rejected his petition in May, determining that no mistakes had been made during the original trial to warrant a new one. Tory is expected to receive his sentence next Tuesday, June 13.
