Welcome To FrFr Language With Kalan.FrFr

Your favorite rappers aren’t speaking in code; you’re just not hip to their lingo. From onomatopoeias to alliterations, an artist’s chosen lyrical content help tells the stories and paint pictures of music culture from around the globe. West coast rappers have always added their own flair to hip-hop’s dictionary. As corny as it sounds, “fo shizzle/fa shizzle” became the go-to way to say “for sure” thanks to Snoop Dogg’s “Suited N Booted.” And we can’t forget E-40 teaching us how to ghost-ride the whip!

Ready for some new additions to your West coast rap vocabulary? Look no further than Uproxx’s Cherise Johnson’s sitdown with SoCal’s Kalan.FrFr as he decodes phrases like “light speed” from his song “Light Breeze,” the dating moniker “sweet tea,” and the exotic car nickname “toys.” Nevertheless, it’s safe to say Kalan has been on a winning streak all of 2022. His most recent album, 222, which helms production by Hit-Boy, JetsonMade, and more, saw major streaming success. Also, we can’t forget his Made In America set and “TwoFr Tour,” bolstered by appearances from fellow Cali rap homies Blxst and 1Take Jay as well as R&B singer Mario and the enchanting Rubi Rose.

Outside of FrFr Language, catch Kalan and his Cali swag for UPROXX Sessions performing the song “Light Breeze” and his past performance of “Never Lose You.”

TikTok’s Emerging Artists Of 2022 Includes Ice Spice And Steve Lacy

Whether or not you’re an active user on the platform, you can not deny the impact of the social media platform TikTok. From legacy acts like Dolly Parton joining the site to funny one-off collaborations, the platform has proven to be a dominant force in today’s music scene.

Many rising acts, including Bronx rapper Ice Spice, have TikTok to thank for their boom in popularity. Like Spotify’s Wrapped list, TikTok has released its data for the year to provide the music power rankings.

In a statement, TikTok’s Chief Operating Officer, Vanessa Pappas, shared her excitement about this year’s list, “We’re honored to celebrate our global community who shaped this year’s trends, shared new ideas, learned from one another, and turned their passions into careers and livelihoods throughout 2022.”

At the top of their emerging artists’ list is the “Munch” rapper, and in the second position is “Bad Habits” singer Steve Lacy.

Budding music star Bailey Zimmerman came in at number three with the help of his single, “Rock and A Hard Place.” Pop singer JVKE’s “Golden Hour” secured him the fourth slot. Finally, former American Idol contestant Benson Boone arrived at the number five position due to his song “Ghost Town.”

Thanks to “F.N.F.,” Memphis rapper GloRilla secured the number six slot, whereas “Big Energy” landed Atlanta’s Latto at seven.

Grammy Award winners Omar Apollo and Muni Long, then Anees close out the last three spots. Apollo’s viral hit was “Evergreen (You Didn’t Deserve Me At All).” Long’s viral hit was “Hrs and Hrs.” Anees’ viral hit was “Sun and Moon.”

At the top of the list was the breezy “Sunroof” by Nicky Youre and dazy.

Lizzo’s “About Damn Time” came in at No. 4. Her comeback anthem was used in several video clips this year, in many of which, the user dances to a portion of the song’s second verse to specific step-by-step choreography.

At No. 5 was “Just A Cloud Away” by Pharrell Williams, from the 2013 film Despicable Me 2.

While Willow‘s collaboration with Tyler Cole, “Meet Me At Our Spot” proved to be a sleeper hit this year, another song of Willow’s, “Wait A Minute,” came in at No. 7. The song was first released in 2015, as part of her debut album, Ardipithecus.

Another song that received new life was “Nothing” by N.O.R.E., which was sampled in breakthrough artist Armani White‘s hit single, “Billie Eilish.” “Billie Eilish” placed at No. 9 and also resulted in White landing a deal with Def Jam.

TikTok’s Top Trending Videos Of 2022 Features Creative Videos From Lizzo And Rosalía

TikTok, which has grown exponentially over the past few years, released its year-end stats for 2022 via Variety — and the results might surprise some casual social media users. Out of millions of videos on the platform, TikTok narrowed down the Top 10 Trending Videos in the US.

At the top with 23 million likes was a video of a man constructing a chocolate giraffe, followed at No. 2 by a viral video of a chipmunk. It turns out TikTok users LOVE animals.

They also love Rosalía, as the star sits at spot No. 3, for the viral video of her chewing gum — set to her song, “Bizcochito.” Given it was a huge trend this year for fans and music lovers… and literally, everyone, to recreate her signature pose, this comes as no surprise. The Motamami singer’s video also gave us a TON of memes, for which we are eternally grateful.

Lizzo also made the list at No. 6, making her the only other musician to do so this year. She taught fans the choreography for her song “About Damn Time” and they thoroughly enjoyed it, enough to make it a major trend. Dancing gave TikTok its start, so it’s only fitting. Plus, Lizzo is so much fun.

As for the rest of the videos on the list, there’s everything from the Corn Kid remix to a showdown between lava and ice. (Or, what Jesse Pinkman says in Breaking Bad, science, b*tch.)

Yung Miami Says She Won’t Do A ‘Period Ahh, Period Uhh’ Remix: ‘I Hate That Trend’

Yung Miami won’t be joining Baby Tate, Bebe Rexha, Chlöe, or Lil Nas X in hopping on the latest TikTok trend. When asked on Twitter to jump on the “Period Ahh Period Uhh” wave, the City Girls star made her position clear: “No!!!!! I hate that trend & don’t think it’s funny either.”

TikTok user Britt Barbie started the madness in late August with a video recap of her recent “Five Below haul,” including a plastic bridge for her gecko, mechanical pencils, and a wooden stick massager. She punctuated her description of each miscellaneous item with an empathic “period ahh.” That blossomed into a longer “Period Ahh Period Uhh” clip, which Britt posted on September 10.

Yung Miami is generating plenty of viral moments by herself, anyway. She launched her Revolt talk show Caresha Please this summer. So far, she has already playfully flirted with Megan Thee Stallion, received dating advice from Gucci Mane, and put the full-court press on Saweetie. The show was recently nominated for Best Hip-Hop Platform at the 2022 BET Hip-Hop Awards scheduled for October 4.

Miami’s “Period Ahh” shutdown arguably isn’t her most interesting tweet from the last 48 hours. Amid a tweetstorm about Sunday’s (September 18) afternoon NFL slate, she responded to a since-deleted tweet, “B*tch I don’t even rap no more! Eat this P*ssy hoe I retired!” Then, she and JT were revealed as Pop Sugar’s newest cover stars yesterday (September 19). Total retirement is clearly not on the table, as the City Girls are currently opening on Jack Harlow’s North American tour in support of Come Home The Kids Miss You.

FDA Advises TikTok Users Not To Try Viral NyQuil Chicken Recipe

sleepy chicken challenge tiktok

The FDA is warning TikTok users not to try a bizarre recipe that has gone viral. TikTok is known for trending challenges and pranks, however the latest recipe trend is seemingly absurd but not enough for the FDA to stay quiet. The feds say NyQuil-marinated chicken, or the ‘Sleepy Chicken Challenge’ as it’s called, is dangerous and potentially deadly.

The FDA says cooking the medicine makes it more powerful and can change its properties.  They add that inhaling the vapors during the cooking process can cause lung damage.

According to Yahoo Life, the trend is actually a joke but videos of the meal are circulating on social media, and people are concerned children will be vulnerable to influence.

In addition, the TikTok recipe calls for an amount of NyQuil that’s much larger than the recommended adult dose.

In 2021 the ‘Milk Crate Challenge’, where people used milk crates to stack in a pyramid and then attempt to climb up them like stairs went viral. Tik Tok banned the challenge after numerous participants were seen crashing down with injuries from their failed attempts.

Who thought that cooking chicken in NyQuil medicine was a good idea?

Kanye West Joins TikTok Despite His Rich History Of Issues With The Platform

Kanye West has an interesting relationship with social media. He often uses it as a tool for his feuds, and sometimes he’ll just wipe his profiles clean or take them offline altogether; His Instagram account currently has no posts. Now, though, he has broadened his online reach by joining TikTok.

Ye’s account went live yesterday and he shared his first video, a near-three-minute clip filmed from the passenger seat of a moving vehicle, fixed on the stereo playing parts of his 2019 album Jesus Is King. The clip has so far racked up over 800,000 plays and 200,000 likes, while West himself has over 260,000 followers (and 0 accounts followed).

West’s new TikTok account is especially interesting given the problems he has had with the platform in the past. Back in August 2020, for example, he tweeted, “A vision just came to me… Jesus tok. I was watching tik tok with my daughter and as a Christian father I was disturbed by a lot of the content but I completely loved the technology.” Earlier this year, he also expressed his discontent with his daughter North using the platform, saying in an interview, “Tell [Kim Kardashian] don’t have my daughter wearing lipstick on TikTok and don’t have her on TikTok at all if I don’t approve that.”
