The Weeknd Seemingly Hints That A New ‘Full Body Of Work’ Could Arrive Before His Next Tour

The Weeknd had a monster year in 2020 thanks to his fourth album, After Hours. With a huge world tour set to begin next year, some might have expected the singer to rest up before hitting the road. But for the last few months he’s been teasing that he’s planning to release new music, which he hinted at again on Tuesday.

In a string of posts on Twitter, The Weeknd seemed to confirmed that a new project could arrive before the After Hours tour. “We gettin’ there [CD emoji],” he wrote, adding, “Really proud of this one. Wow… Massaging it now, being sweet to it. Giving it some tlc…” The singer then clarified what to expect. “Just so there’s no confusion, it’s a full body of work… [sunset emojis],” he wrote referencing “the dawn,” which he teased at the Billboard Music Awards back in May. He added, “The tour is gonna be MADNESS.”

The Weeknd first started teasing new music en route through a string of tweets back in April. “Made so much magic in the small quarantined room,” he wrote in one tweet before adding, “nothing’s ever random… now just piecing it all together… it’s so beautiful.”

The Weeknd Will Star In The Upcoming HBO Series, ‘The Idol,’ Co-Created By The Mind Behind ‘Euphoria’

After an impressive year run that concluded with his sixth album, After Hours, The Weeknd will now bring his talents to the small screen. According to Variety, the singer will star in the upcoming HBO series The Idol, which is about a female pop singer who falls in love with an L.A. club owner who also leads a secret cult. The singer will also co-write and a co-executive produce the series alongside Reza Fahim and Sam Levinson, with all the three being labeled as co-creators.

Joseph Epstein will also write and executive produce on the show in addition to acting as showrunner. Levinson is also responsible for HBO’s hit series Euphoria, which landed a number of Emmy nominations, one of which was given to Zendaya for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series.

This is far from the first time that The Weeknd has found himself on television . In 2020, he appeared as himself in an American Dad episode, titled “A Starboy is Born,” that we also co-wrote. He also played himself on the big screen, in the 2019 film, Uncut Gems.

On the music side of things, The Weeknd recently joined Doja Cat in a video for their first-ever collaboration “You Right.”

Doja Cat And The Weeknd’s Majestic Video For ‘You Right’ Welcomes The World To ‘Planet Her’

The wait is finally over. After teasing her third album, Planet Her for the better part of the last year, Doja Cat has finally graced her fans with its release. The project arrives after she spent most of 2020 promoting songs from her second album, Hot Pink. This includes the chart-topping “Say So” and the TikTok favorite “Streets.” All of that is in the past now as Doja begins the third chapter of her career for Planet Her with a brand new video for “You Right” with The Weeknd.

The new track is also accompanied by a majestic video that follows Doja as she walks through an elegant palace as she details her desires for a man despite being in a relationship with another one. Planet Her was led by two singles, “Kiss Me More” with SZA and “Need To Know.” The former was an effort that submitted itself onto the list of song of the summer contenders. The duo also performed it at the 2021 Billboard Music Awards. The latter was a track Doja delivered to hold fans over until the album’s release. All in all, Planet Her arrives with additional features from Young Thug, Ariana Grande, and JID.

As for what’s next, Doja will soon make an appearance in the second season of Lil Dicky’s TV show, Dave, and take the stage alongside Justin Bieber, Lil Baby, and more for the Made In America festival.

Planet Her is out now via RCA Records. Get it here.

The Weeknd’s ‘Blinding Lights’ Is Now The Longest-Charting Solo Song In ‘Billboard’ Hot 100 History

The Weeknd’s is still winning awards for and setting new records with his 2020 album, After Hours. From nearly sweeping at the 2021 Billboard Music Awards to leaving with an armful of trophies at this year’s Juno Awards, the singer has been a force to reckon with. If that weren’t all, the singer’s continued presence on the Billboard singles chart has also been extremely noteworthy.

“Blinding Lights” recently became the longest-charting solo song in Billboard Hot 100 history after registering its 78th week, passing the previous record-holder, Jason Mraz’s “I’m Yours,” to take the crown. Now the song sits behind Imagine Dragons’ “Radioactive” and Awolnation’s “Sail” to claim the overall record. The former leads the way with 87 weeks spent on the singles chart while the latter trails behind with 79 weeks.

The After Hours highlight and the album itself controversially failed to land any recognition at this year’s Grammys, but other award shows have honored the record. The track won Top Hot 100 Song, Top Radio Song, and Top R&B Song at last month’s Billboard Music Awards, which also saw him win Top Artist, Top Male Artist, and Top Hot 100 Artist. Elsewhere in 2021, “Blinding Lights” won Song Of The Year, Titanium Song Of The Year, and TikTok Bop Of The Year at the iHeartRadio Music Awards as well as Single Of The Year at the Juno Awards.

The Weeknd Won Five 2021 Juno Awards Including Artist Of The Year

After excoriating the Grammys for leaving him locked out this year, The Weeknd got some measure of redemption over the… ahem… weekend at his home country’s analogue awards ceremony, the Juno Awards. Sunday night, he was awarded two wins, Album and Artist Of The Year, after taking home awards for Contemporary R&B Recording Of The Year for After Hours, Single Of The Year for “Blinding Lights,” and Songwriter Of The Year. All told, he took five awards out of the six for which he was nominated, only missing out on the Juno Fan Choice Award, which Shawn Mendes won.

The Weeknd lashed out at the Grammys committee after the nominees were announced last year, revealing that he wasn’t nominated for any awards, astonishing fans who assumed he’d be a shoo-in with one of the biggest records of both the year and his career. The Weeknd himself accused the committee of corruption, a claim which the Recording Academy denied. However, that didn’t stop him from boycotting the show, proclaiming he’d no longer submit for consideration — even after the Academy worked to address some of the issues that caused him to be snubbed.

Meanwhile, he also led the nominations for the 2021 Billboard Music Awards, taking home ten, and has been teasing a new era, putting the controversy — for the most part — in the rear view.

The Weeknd Continues To Tease His New Era With A Cryptic Tweet

After cleaning up with a whopping ten wins at the Billboard Music Awards last Sunday — you hear that, Grammys? — The Weeknd is doubling down on his promise that new era is coming. Though the R&B superstar didn’t even get to tour behind his most successful album yet, due to the blight that was COVID-19 on 2020 live events, he’s already unveiling a new concept anyway. After teasing the new era as “The Dawn” in one of his many acceptance speeches at the BBMAs, Abel hopped on Twitter this afternoon to double down on his promise.

“Ladies and gentleman, the…” he wrote, a cryptic teaser that had fans quickly filling in the blank: “Dawn is coming.”

Of course, it’s also a reference to a now-beloved SNL meme, when Daniel Craig introduced the star on the show. So do with it what you will!

Tesfaye’s After Hours era was a dark one punctuated by his constant red suit and facial injuries and bandages, a visual shtick that kept fans guessing as to how he’d show up to public events. If the “Save Your Tears” performance at the Billboard Music Awards was any indication, that visual is now down. His crips black suit with a long trench was the new look, and even if Ariana didn’t join him for the BBMAs performance, her appearance at his iHeartRadio Music Awards for their new remix was another indication that the pair might have more new music in the works. This was Ari’s first appearance after her secret at-home wedding, so it’s a big deal that she made it out on that stage.

Whether The Dawn era includes Ari or not, it’s definitely coming soon. And new music from The Weeknd is the perfect way to head back into festival season.

The Weeknd And Ariana Grande Perform ‘Save Your Tears’ For The First Time At The iHeartRadio Music Awards

More than a year after he shared his celebrated album, After Hours, with the world, The Weeknd teamed up with Ariana Grande to deliver a new remix of “Save Your Tears.” The collaboration marked the third time the duo worked on a song together following 2014’s “Love Me Harder” and last year’s “Off The Table” each from Grande’s My Everything and Positions albums, respectively. The “Save Your Tears” remix arrived at the height of the singers’ stardom but they had yet to perform the song together in what fans hoped would be an epic moment. That changed on Thursday when The Weeknd and Grande brought their talents to the 2021 iHeartRadio Music Awards.

The Weeknd walked onto the award stage to begin his portion of the song. Clearing through his verse as blue and purple neon lighting shined above him, viewers were greeted by the surprise arrival of Ariana Grande who emerged from backstage to begin her own verse. The performance as a whole was solid and it showed the well-established chemistry the two singers held between each other.

The performance comes after The Weeknd took home a whopping ten awards at this year’s Billboard Music Awards. His wins came in categories that included Top Artist, Top Hot 100 Artist, Top R&B Artist, Top Hot 100 Song, and Top R&B Album. He also teased new music from a new era during the award show. As for Grande, she recently got married to her fiance Dalton Gomez in what was a small yet intimate ceremony.
