Recently, Diddy got a bit carried away while listening to music behind the wheel. In a new clip, the hitmaker is seen cruising around and blasting his most recent release, The Love Album: Off the Grid. Unfortunately, the loud music managed to get the attention of a police officer, who later pulled him over. In the clip, the officer asks him to lower the volume of his music, and Diddy obliges. The performer was sure, however, to tell the officer to play the new album as loud as he can whenever he hears it.
Luckily, it doesn’t look like Diddy got into too much trouble for the disturbance. As the officer walked away, he told him “thank you for your service.” When he was a bit further from the vehicle, however, he told him to “eat a d*ck.” He went on to make it clear that he didn’t appreciate getting called out, but assured viewers that either way, he’s “still love.”
Obviously, Diddy is incredibly proud of his new album, and wants to make sure that everybody gets a chance to hear it. “I wanted to work with different voices that I never had a chance to work with in R&B,” he said of the project in an interview last week. “I wanted to unify R&B because I believe that R&B is not getting the right lens.”
It looks like Diddy already has plans in place for his next album, too. According to his son King Combs, he plans on shifting his focus back to hip hop next. “I’ma be on the next one,” Combs told TMZ recently. “We doing the Hip Hop album coming soon.” What do you think of Diddy getting pulled over for playing his new album too loud? Share your thoughts in the comments section down below, and keep an eye on HNHH for more updates on Diddy.
Say what you want about Sean Combs, aka Diddy — and a lot has been said about the man formerly known as Puff Daddy, both good and bad — but as a producer and an artistic force in the music industry, he is undeniable. He has been for a very long time.
He brings all that irresistible force to bear on his new project, The Love Album: Off The Grid. Incredibly enough, it’s only his fifth studio album to date despite his 30-plus years as a recognizable name in the music business.
It’s also his first solo album as Diddy since 2006’s Press Play and his first album as Diddy overall since the 2010 collaborative album Last Train To Paris (a 2015 mixtape, MMM (Money Making Mitch), was credited to his former moniker, Puff Daddy).
Like Diddy’s previous projects dating all the way back to his first, the 1997 debut album No Way Out (released as Puff Daddy & The Family), calling this a solo album feels like a stretch. Even then, Puff’s albums were littered with features and showcased his prowess as a producer as much as a vocalist (a thing I’ve always found cool about Diddy is his proficiency as a rapper despite not writing the verses — it’s a lot harder than it sounds).
The Love Album: Off The Grid is no anomaly in that respect. With 23(!) tracks, the album features nearly 30 credited guest artists, from Puff Daddy contemporaries like Busta Rhymes, Mary J. Blige, Babyface, and John Legend to contemporary stars such as 21 Savage, H.E.R., Justin Bieber, and Summer Walker.
It’s also a showcase for rising talents, both those under the umbrella of Diddy’s own Love Records and otherwise. Songwriters Jozzy and Nova Wav receive some spotlight, as does Compton rap-singer Kalan.FrFr. The album is, to paraphrase Diddy’s own words, something of a love letter to R&B as much as it is a hip-hop album from the self-described “greatest rapper that ever lived” (a quote from “Stay Awhile” with Nija — one of greatest rap lies in hip-hop’s 50-year history, to be sure. You sort of have to respect the audacity).
In fact, somewhere around the midpoint of the album, Diddy basically disappears almost entirely. This feels odd to write, but you kinda wish Diddy’s much-touted comeback album featured more… well, Diddy.
Think about all the hits the rapper-producer has been responsible for over the years: the “Benjamins”; the “I Need A Girl” parts one and two; the “Pass The Courvoisiers.” For all the accusations of shady business practices and not actually writing raps or making beats, he’s always been the best part of those collaborations, often through the sheer magnitude of his personality. It’d be nice to get more of that here.
Fortunately, the other hallmark of Diddy’s storied career has been his ear for talent. And, my God, what a collection of talents is arrayed here. It’s nearly impossible to choose a standout. The Dirty Money reunion “Deliver Me” is candy for the ears. Not even a poorly advised Fabolous cameo can drag down an all-time performance from Jacquees on “Pick Up.” (For the life of me, I cannot understand why men in rap close ranks around proven abusers; there’s more nuance in this discussion than can be shared here, but still… it’s so easy to just… not.)
Ty Dolla Sign and Coco Jones form a heavenly combo on “Reachin’.” H.E.R. remains magnificent on “Space.” And the touching “Kim Porter” wisely employs two of R&B’s greatest emotional songwriters ever for Diddy’s tribute to The One Who Got Away.
However, the back half of the album, which you can imagine Diddy meant as an ode to Quiet Storm and slow jams, becomes a slog as the tempo winds its way lower and lower ’til it gets stuck in the mud. It wastes all those great performances because the first half of the album is vintage Diddy.
The funk bop of the album opener “Brought My Love” with The-Dream and Herb freaking Alpert is a welcome dodge away from the conventions of modern rap. It’s upbeat, fun, reminiscent of Diddy’s best without being derivative, and taps into the contemporary wave of dancefloor-ready rap without being gimmicky.
“Homecoming” with Jozzy updates Diddy’s favorite approach to sampling (Ecstasy, Passion & Pain’s “Born To Lose You”), and “It Belongs To You” is slinky bedroom funk at its best. But then the first intermission hits and the production switches to that murky, Drake-esque slush — which has its place, to be fair. But the thing about Quiet Storm is there still needs to be some… let’s say “motion in the ocean.”
A lot of the back half is great from a songwriting and performing standpoint but placid and downright inert if you’re thinking of “music you make love to.” Diddy made a lot of fuss about bringing R&B “back” with this album but had he been paying attention, he’d have seen it never left — and he could have incorporated more of what modern singers like Lucky Daye, Arin Ray, Ari Lennox, SZA, Cleo Sol, Khalid, Tems, Victoria Monét, and more have been doing all along.
But what’s here is still a great sampling of what’s out there — in fact, it’s more of a smorgasbord, for better or worse. It’s overstuffed, indulgent, and overlong, but it’s also sumptuous, charismatic, and satisfying, if not sonically audacious. Basically, it’s all the things you want from a Diddy album.
The Love Album: Off The Grid is out now via Love Records and Motown.
Jacquees is upset with Billboard after the outlet featured a photo of singer Zae France instead of Jacquees while covering his appearance on Diddy’s new project, The Love Album: Off The Grid. Jacquees reacted to the since-deleted video in a post on Twitter, over the weekend.
“Man if y’all don’t fire whoever the fuck posted this,” he wrote while sharing the mistake. “Come on wit the games.” Fans shared plenty of laughs in response to the post. One complained that Billboard is “fumbling again when it comes to R&B and Hip Hop. It’s sad that there are not any reputable platforms for either genre smh.”
Jacquees makes an appearance on the sixth track off of The Love Album: Off The Grid, “Pick Up.” He’s one of many other stars of R&B to feature on the project, including The Weeknd, Swae Lee, Summer Walker, and more. Diddy explained how he narrowed down who he wanted on the project during an episode of The Love Radio Takeover on Apple Music 1, last week. “I wanted to work with different voices that I never had a chance to work with in R&B. I wanted to unify R&B because I believe that R&B is not getting the right lens,” he said. “I want to tell you some Black people, we do look alike. I could dig that, but Hip-Hop and R&B are two different things.”

“We’re coming with this album to make it clear that R&B is here,” Diddy further said on Apple Music 1. “There’s an R&B resurgence and we all got together. This is not just my album. This is our album. Everybody that’s on the album from Summer Walker to Jozzy. Teyana Taylor, Babyface, John Legend and so many more.”
Diddy celebrated the release of his new project, The Love Album: Off The Grid, at Brooklyn Chophouse Times Square’s 47 Below over the weekend. During the event, he reflected on sleeping on the floor of his friend’s apartment.
According to a source for Page Six, Diddy “had an emotional moment talking about their friendship” with the space’s owner, Robert “Don Pooh” Cummins. “Me and Pooh — he used to let me sleep on his floor in his apartment,” Diddy recalled, as captured on video by photographer Johnny Nunez. The two met while students at Howard University.

The event was a star-studded affair overall, with Diddy welcoming Mary J. Blige, RZA, Jim Jones, Fabolous, Jaylen Brown, and more. Additionally, Diddy brought along Yung Miami of the City Girls. They reportedly treated guests to a selection of satays, dumplings, salt and pepper lobster, shrimp fried rice, and steak.
The run-in with Cummins isn’t the only time Diddy’s gotten emotional while promoting his new album. Speaking with Access Hollywood for a recent interview, he detailed the making of his Kim Porter tribute on the new album. He explained that his late partner still visits him in his dreams. “I got with Babyface, and I really told him the story of me and Kim, and I showed him this picture, and I said, ‘Babyface, I know your voice will penetrate the heavens above. I need you to sing this song to Kim, and I need her to hear it so she can come and visit me in my dreams,’ and that’s the story I really told him,” Diddy shared. He added: “And we started writing the song, and I was like, ‘I feel like I really want to make sure she gets the message’ and I call John Legend, and I was like, ‘John, I need you to sing to the heavens above’ and that’s how we got ‘Kim Porter.’ And she has come and visited me in my dreams.” The Love Album: Off The Grid is available now.
Drake, SZA, Diddy, and more artists have made the past seven days one of the more memorable weeks for R&B music from throughout the year. The result is a star-studded update to HotNewHipHop’sR&B Season playlist showcasing the latest songs in the genre.
Several of the most noteworthy tracks are from Diddy’s long-awaited project, The Love Album: Off The Grid. “Another One Of Me,” with The Weeknd, French Montana, and 21 Savage, as well as “Moments” with Justin Bieber, and “Closer To God” with Teyana Taylor are all present. Diddy dropped the album back on September 15. Other featured artists across the 23-song tracklist include John Legend, Busta Rhymes, Jacquees, Fabolous, Swae Lee, and several more.
As for Drake, his collaboration with SZA, “Slime You Out,” kicks off the update. The track arrived, earlier this week, as Drake announced that he’s delaying the release of his upcoming album, For All The Dogs. In an update on social media, he admitted: “Okay my dilemma I am faced with is either cancel shows to finish the album or I complete the mission and drop the album before the last show. I owe you all these memories we are building and anywhere we have missed to-date we will be spinning back for sure. For All the Dogs October 6th. It’s only right…”
It wasn’t the only drama for Drake this week. To promote “Slime You Out,” Drake featured a picture of Halle Berry, who objected to the decision. “Sometimes you have to be the bigger guy…even if you’re a woman!” she wrote on Instagram. In the comments, she clarified: “Didn’t get my permission. That’s not cool. I thought better of him!” “Slime You Out” isn’t SZA’s only appearance either. Her collaboration with Justin Bieber, “Snooze (Acoustic),” also makes the cut. Other inclusions on the R&B Season playlist feature Keke Palmer, Ambre, Cleo Sol, and more. In recent weeks, HotNewHipHop has highlighted Tinashe, Timbaland, and Jorja Smith, among others. Check out the full playlist above.
Diddy says that his late partner, Kim Porter, still visits him in his dreams. He spoke about their relationship during a recent interview with Access Hollywood, following the release of his new album, The Love Album: Off The Grid. Diddy named one of the songs on the project after Porter. She passed away from lobar pneumonia in 2018. She and Diddy shared three children together.
He added: “And we started writing the song, and I was like, ‘I feel like I really want to make sure she gets the message’ and I call John Legend, and I was like, ‘John, I need you to sing to the heavens above’ and that’s how we got ‘Kim Porter.’ And she has come and visited me in my dreams. So I have, you know, been able to live the best of both worlds.”
In addition to working with John Legend and Babyface on his “Kim Porter” track, Diddy also brought in the likes of Busta Rhymes, Jacquees, Fabolous, Swae Lee, Summer Walker, French Montana, The Weeknd, 21 Savage, Justin Bieber, and more across the rest of the 23-song tracklist. The Love Album: Off The Grid hit streaming platforms on September 15. It’s his first solo effort since 2006’s Press Play. Be on the lookout for further updates on the project on HotNewHipHop.
So far, listeners appear to be loving Diddy’s latest project. Social media users are making their feelings on the various features known on Twitter, and the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. Some are even already calling it the Album of the Year. “He said it was the return of R&B on this and whewwwwww he delivered,” one Twitter user writes. “The last half of the album is incredible. No skips.” To celebrate, of course, Diddy recently hosted a star-studded bash in NYC.
It looks like everyone and their brother came out to hype Diddy’s latest release. Attendees included Keyshia Cole, Jadakiss, French Montana, and many more. Yung Miami, as expected, was also spotted at the event. According to reports, guests sipped on DeLeon until the early hours of the morning. Diddy even rented out the whole venue, Sei Less, so they could party until 4 a.m. Diddy and his guests also enjoyed some karaoke, singing along to The Notorious B.I.G., Keyshia Cole, and more.
“Music is my first love and music has given me a second chance at life, so stepping back into the studio to make this album has been a soulful experience that brought me closer to myself and my purpose,” Diddy says of the new album. ”This album wasn’t created to feed an algorithm or be relevant with the trends of the times, it was created to touch souls and freely express my story with the best artists, writers, and producers shaping the future of R&B.” Are you digging Diddy’s new album? The Weeknd is a legendary artist who has consistently made chart-topping music. In addition to his solo efforts, he has delivered some phenomenal features over the years. These features are considered to be legendary in their own right. However, it seems like he is retiring from making features. Yes, that’s right, he has only more feature left in him, and it was released today. As we reported on extensively, the feature comes in the form of a verse and hook on the track “Another One Of Me.” This is a cut from Diddy’s The Love Album: Off The Grid.
The song also features the likes of 21 Savage and French Montana. Overall, this is a song that everyone was looking forward to. After all, you would think that The Weeknd’s final feature would be a must-listen event. That said, there is no telling if Abel is actually telling the truth here. Whatever the case is, there is no doubt that he delivered a great performance for this supposed last hoorah.
Before each of The Weeknd’s attempts at the hook, we get a sample of the drum solo from Phil Collins’ “In The Air Tonight.” From there, the rest of the song is filled with dope verses from Diddy, French Montana, and 21 Savage. There is fair bit of chemistry here, and it creates a dope song that acts as a standout on this new album.

Tonight (September 15), Diddy dropped his much-anticipated R&B album, The Love Album: Off The Grid. On the new album is “Another One Of Me,” a scorching collaboration with 21 Savage, French Montana, and The Weeknd.
“Another one of me won’t come around again,” he sings on the song’s chorus, marking the beginning of the end of Abel Tesfaye’s run as The Weeknd.
Elsewhere on the song, the three rappers each deliver verses in which they thrive in their affluence and timelessness, and while The Weeknd may slowly be stepping away from the spotlight, French, 21, and Diddy aren’t letting their reign let up just yet.
In the accompanying music video, the four heavy hitters are seen in a digital kingdom, holding the wreckage together as the spit rhymes and deliver vocal bars.
You can see the video for “Another One Of Me” above.
