Chrissy Teigen & John Legend Don The Weeknd & Lily-Rose Depp “The Idol” Costumes

No celebrity Halloween costume round-up is complete without power couples making a great dynamic duo fit pairing. Up next are John Legend and Chrissy Teigen, who recently welcomed a son, their fourth child, via surrogate. However, even though they are seen as a pretty wholesome, albeit clowned and individually controversial couple, they clearly wanted to go against that perception for this Hallow’s Eve. Moreover, they dressed up as Lily-Rose Depp’s character Jocelyn and The Weeknd’s character Tedros from the HBO series The Idol. That was one of the more divisive shows in recent memory, and anyone who’s seen it knows that Jocelyn and Tedros are not exactly the most functional or healthy pairing.

Furthermore, they seemed to have a lot of fun with their fits, taking some pictures together that emulate the show’s vibe. All we can hope for, honestly, is that they didn’t try to go too far in really embodying these characters. Jokes aside, it’s fair to say that, in terms of pop culture relevance and a simple adherence to their aesthetics, Chrissy Teigen and John Legend walked away with a W here. Sure, it’s not the most impressive or complex of fits, but anyone who knows The Idol at least somewhat immediately knew what they were doing.

Chrissy Teigen & John Legend Are Idols With Their Halloween Costumes

Still, the two have steep competition when it comes to celebrity couples emulating other famous pairings. While John Legend and Chrissy Teigen looked to the small screen for inspiration, Ozzy Osbourne and Sharon Osbourne looked to the world of rap gossip. They dressed up as Kanye West and Bianca Censori, complete with Ozzy covered in all-black in head to toe and Sharon wearing just a pillow. Yeah, just a pillow; we’d say she nailed the vibe.

Meanwhile, as John and Chrissy’s family continues to grow, we’re sure that typical antics and “couple goals” moments will follow. They might not have even close to the most admired Twitters of all time, but they’ll still get a lot of love. What’s more important is the love they show each other, and we hope that they didn’t look to The Idol for inspiration for that, too. Grimes Disappointed By Cancelation Of The Weeknd’s “The Idol” Show

Grimes is no stranger to using her social media and various interviews to express her thoughts on all kinds of issues. One of those is The Idol. During the controversial run of The Weeknd and Euphoria creator Sam Levinson’s show on HBO, Grimes often tweeted in favor of it. That’s why she was one of the first people that came to mind for many after a recent announcement. The future of the show had been speculated on for months after it received decent commercial success but took an unbelievable critical beating. Earlier this week, HBO officially confirmed that the show would not be returning for a second season.

Grimes took to Twitter to react to the defacto cancelation. “Call me crazy but I rly loved the idol. I feel like they didn’t have time to finish it but it reminded me of perfect blue meets basic instinct kinda? I wish they could have another season to rly get into the Machiavellian femme fatale arc w Depp.” She continued to compare the show to cult classic Perfect Blue and muse on where the show could have gone. “When I saw perfect blue my main thought was it would have been better if she was the villain. I feel like the idol was gonna go there but it felt like they didn’t have enough time to get there.” Check out the entire post below.

Grimes Shares Where She Hoped “The Idol” Would Go

This is far from the only time Grimes has shared controversial views online. Earlier this month she took to Twitter to defend Doja Cat and Lizzo, who were both going through their own kinds of controversies. She defended Doja after the “Paint The Town Red” singer picked a fight with her own fanbase over their support.

Perhaps more controversially, Grimes spoke out in support of Lizzo. The “About Damn Time” singer is facing some serious allegations of workplace harassment in a lawsuit brought on by three former dancers. Grimes Has A Lot Of Thoughts About The Weeknd’s ‘The Idol’ Getting Canceled: ‘It Had Its Flaws But I Am So Tired Of Everything Being Perfect’

After months of doubt about whether The Weeknd’s controversial HBO series The Idol would return for a second season, it was made official yesterday (August 28): No, the show is not continuing. Grimes, a fan of The Idol, was bummed about the cancellation news, as she revealed on X (formerly Twitter).

In a series of tweets, Grimes discussed what she liked about the show, what she wanted to see from it next, and some other things she noticed. She wrote:

“Call me crazy but I rly loved the idol. I feel like they didn’t have time to finish it but it reminded me of perfect blue meets basic instinct kinda? I wish they could have another season to rly get into the Machiavellian femme fatale arc w Depp.

When I saw perfect blue my main thought was it would have been better if she was the villain. I feel like the idol was gonna go there but it felt like they didn’t have enough time to get there. The music is also p good in it honestly – I wasn’t expecting that.

I liked the over the top dialogue – it felt like an homage to a lot of things I miss, it also reminded me of anime the way Brit Marling’s the OA feels like irk anime. If u imagine it animated it rly works – tho depp is totally magnetic on screen I wouldn’t trade the casting

Nina mcneelys choreo is also just astoundingly good especially depps solo near the end of the season. Jennie did suchhh a good job w those dance sequences too- it was mimicking something more basic but actually rly elevated and gorgeous.

I wanted so much more of the red hair journalist arc. Idk, it had it flaws but I am so tired of everything being perfect. I loved the messiness and the humanity and the self indulgence. U could tell everyone was loving filming it. I ride for the idol haha idk.”

The Weeknd’s ‘The Idol’ HBO Show Has Been Canceled, And The Official Statement Acknowledged One Of Its Only Notable Qualities

Abel Tesfaye, better known as The Weeknd, may be a massive star, breaking streaming statistics and Guinness World Records. Unfortunately, his musical success hasn’t yet translated into his budding television career. According to Deadline, HBO has officially canceled his original series The Idol.

A spokesperson for the network released a statement regarding the decisions, saying, “The Idol was one of HBO’s most provocative original programs, and we’re pleased by the strong audience response. After much thought and consideration, HBO, as well as the creators and producers, have decided not to move forward with a second season. We’re grateful to the creators, cast, and crew for their incredible work.”

Before the show’s release, rumors surrounding it quickly turned many fans off. The Weeknd spoke out against the criticism and even clapped back at people online who shared negative opinions on the series. But, it was all in vain, as The Idol went on to earn the lowest rating on Rotten Tomatoes for any HBO series ever.

The Weeknd later opened up about the “bumpy journey” it took to arrive at the show’s finale. The series’ other featured actors, including Blackpink’s Jennie, Troye Sivan, and Lily-Rose Depp, have not yet released any public statements.

“The Idol” From The Weeknd Officially Canceled By HBO After One Season

The Weeknd’s HBO series with “Euphoria” head Sam Levinson this year, “The Idol,” was certainly an event. It was far from a beloved, perfect, and praised one, but it was still one of the most dominant and divisive cultural conversations of 2023 so far. Amid criticisms of the show’s quality itself, its themes and graphic depictions of them, and reports on the series’ behind the scenes wrongdoing and chaos, there was a lot to unpack and pick apart with the story of Jocelyn and Tedros. Rumors already spread that HBO wouldn’t renew it for another run, bolstered by its conclusion that came an episode early. Now, we officially know that “The Idol” is over.

“‘The Idol’ was one of HBO’s most provocative original programs, and we’re pleased by the strong audience response,” a network representative reportedly stated to The Hollywood Reporter. “After much thought and consideration, HBO, as well as the creators and producers have decided not to move forward with a second season. We’re grateful to the creators, cast, and crew for their incredible work.” While this news isn’t exactly surprising, it’s also quite sad to see this potential go to waste, regardless of whether you liked it or not.

“The Idol” Is No More

Furthermore, The Weeknd’s spoken out a lot about this negative reception to the show and defended their original vision for it, however misguided or poorly executed. “My goal was for people to feel that way when they watch it, you know, and that they’ll reassess (fame),” he told Variety in an interview. “It’s almost educational that this is what comes with being incredibly famous. You’re surrounded by people who you’re not sure what their true intentions are, even if it seems like they’re good. You just never know. I’ve been very fortunate to have people around me that I’ve known almost my entire life, which is important and is a gift.”

“I’m loving it,” the Canadian star told GQ of the divisive fan reception. “It’s definitely shaken up the culture for sure. We knew we were making something dark and controversial but true to what we want to say.” Let us know what you thought of “The Idol” and how you feel about its cancellation down in the comments below. Selena Gomez Claims Her Life Is The Inspiration For Jocelyn In “The Idol”

Selena Gomez has claimed that The Weeknd used her real-life trauma as inspiration for the character of Jocelyn in The Idol. The controversial HBO show, co-created by The Weeknd alongside Sam Levinson, concluded last Sunday following an embattled five-episode run. The show follows Jocelyn (Lily Rose-Depp), a world-famous pop star looking to bounce back after a recent fall from grace. However, instead, she falls into the arms of self-help influencer and cult leader Tedros (The Weeknd). The two begin a torrid, debauched relationship where the show wants you to question who is really manipulating who.

However, the show ended up being a ham-fisted male power fantasy that was hated by critics and fans alike. The Weeknd forced the original director, Amy Seimetz, off the show after it gained too much of a “female perspective”. What viewers got instead was a shallow show about a female character as told by two men who want you to root for her abusive boyfriend instead. Furthermore, the show appeared to simply be a vehicle for “shocking” sex scenes. However, not Gomez is dropping some major bombshells about the limited series.

Gomez Notes “Uncanny Similarities” Between Her Life And The Idol

Gomez dated The Weekend for 10 months between 2016 and 2017. Of course, Gomez came up through the hellscape that was tween programming in the late 2000s and early 2010s. While she never worked with Nickelodeon’s Dan Schneider, she was the face of Disney Channel’s Wizards Of Waverly Place. “The similarities between Selena’s life and Jocelyn’s life are just uncanny,” the insider shared. “Being [that] she actually dated The Weeknd, it is even more creepy for her. Her real-life pain was used for entertainment value and that really irks her out. Everyone in her team who has known her for a very long time is dumbfounded by this, but at the end of the day Selena is going to do what she always does – rise above and move on.”

So what exactly are the similarities? Well, both Jocelyn and Gomez are child actors turned pop stars who fall for The Weeknd before being (allegedly in Gomez’s case) emotionally abused by him. However, it goes deeper than that. Jocelyn is seen blowing kisses to the camera, a signature mannerism of Gomez. Furthermore, Jocelyn is also seen being very warm with her fans in a similar way to Gomez. Additionally, both women fight for the right to shoot a topless album cover while also suffering very public mental breakdowns. Meanwhile, both of their post-hospitalization “first moves” feature them posing in lingerie with a hospital bracelet on. However, it’s not the first time that The Weeknd has used his work to take shots at Gomez. Several songs released after their breakup have lyrics aimed at her.

Dominic Fike Was Almost Fired From “Euphoria” For His Drug Use

Euphoria creator Sam Levinson has been pretty busy with his new show. He teamed up with The Weeknd to make The Idol for HBO. The show was popular but undeniably bashed by critics for its acting and storylines. Now that the show is wrapped up he’s likely to turn his attention back to Euphoria, just in time for one of the show’s stars to drop his new music. Dominic Fike returned with his sophomore album Sunburn last week. According to Uproxx, Fike told Zane Lowe in a recent interview that he was almost fired from Euphoria altogether.

“I was so f*cked up during a lot of that show.” Fike went on to explain that it was almost too much for the production team. “I was reprimanded for it. I almost, you know, got kicked off the show,” Fike told Lowe in the interview. He goes on to elaborate on the ways the production tried to keep him sober. “Sam the director and writer, got me a sober coach, somebody to be there all the time,” Fike said. “It did not work.” If all of this sounds familiar it’s because File has told similar stories before. Last year he told an interviewer that he took mushrooms before an audition and it didn’t go well.

Dominic Fike Almost Got Kicked Off “Euphoria”

Dominic Fike’s new album Sunburn only has one feature on it, alt-rock band Weezer. Since neither his breakthrough demos project nor his debut album contain any features it’s the first song on any of his albums to contain one. The album was preceded by singles like “Ant Pile,” and “Mama’s Boy.” He also formally announced it with a teaser trailer posted to his Instagram back in May.

Since his last album Dominic Fike has collaborated with numerous other artists like Justin Bieber, Halsey, and Remi Wolf. He’s also crossed over into hip-hop a few times. He appeared on the Slowthai song “terms” alongside DDenzel Curry. What do you think of Dominic Fike almost getting kicked off of “Euphoria”? Let us know in the comment section below.

The Weeknd Reflected On The ‘Bumpy’ Journey To ‘The Idol’ Following The Controversial Show’s Season Finale

HBO’s controversial new series The Idol came to an end this past Sunday. While the series has been panned by critics, Abel “The Weeknd” Tesfaye, who created the show alongside Sam Levinson and Reza Fahim, stood by the series through its short, five-episode run.

Following its even more polarizing finale, The Weeknd took to Instagram to share a reflective post about the journey to the show.

“the finale,” read the post’s caption. “grateful to share this moment with you all as the season comes to an end. continue to push the vision no matter how bumpy the journey.”

In the photo carousel are pictures of The Weeknd as his character, the cult leader, Tedros — as well as Lily-Rose Depp, who plays pop star Jocelyn, Levinson, and much of the show’s cast.

And of course, The Idol‘s journey has certainly been bumpy, as he notes in the post’s caption. Back in March, the show was the subject of a scathing Rolling Stone exposé which brought to light the alleged toxic working conditions during the show’s production. It also received several negative reviews from critics during its premiere at Cannes Film Festival back in May.

At the time of writing, it has not yet been confirmed if HBO will bring The Idol back for a second season.

The Weeknd Reflects On “Bumpy Journey” After “The Idol” Finale Airs

The Weeknd reflected on his experience working on The Idol after the season one finale aired on HBO, earlier this week. While sharing several pictures from behind the scenes on Monday, The Weeknd said he was grateful for the opportunity “no matter how bumpy the journey.”

“The finale. Grateful to share this moment with you all as the season comes to an end. continue to push the vision no matter how bumpy the journey,” The Weeknd wrote while adding, “@lilyrose_depp @samlev00. Jocelyn Forever.”

The Idol received ample backlash from viewers during its run on HBO. The Weeknd’s new post was no different. One fan commented: “Sam Levinson made it hot garbage and into the rape fantasy he couldn’t with euphoria. Maybe attempt to barely redeem the show by showing the other director’s scenes.” Another defended The Weeknd’s performance: “There is no hate here or anything. The Weeknd put on a great performance. The problem for me is how the series is managed, because in my opinion it doesn’t lend or give a good idea of originality, I only see copies.”

“Jocelyn Forever,” was the title of the show’s final episode, which (spoiler alert) revealed Lily-Rose Depp’s character was only leading everyone to believe she was being manipulated by Tedros the whole time. “Jocelyn is a very calculated and strategic person. She knows exactly what she wants and she’ll stop at nothing to get it,” Depp previously explained of the finale. “Tedros was her muse and that she got what she needed out of him.”
