Shyne Apologizes For His Unsavory Comments About Kendrick Lamar

Shyne has apologized for his infamous 2012 criticism of Kendrick Lamar, in which he labeled the now-iconic rapper’s debut album, good kid, m.A.A.d city, “trash.” Taking to Twitter shortly after its release, Shyne wrote that Lamar “is talented with a lot of potential but his album is traaaaash!” Reflecting on the comment during a new appearance on Math Hoffa’s My Expert Opinion podcast, Shyne labeled it a “mistake.”

“I would say I made a mistake about Kendrick Lamar, I will admit to that. I think that was definitely a mistake [laughs],” he said, “I think Drake is nice, Drake is incredible and Lamar has obviously proven me completely wrong, but everybody got it at the time but I was dealing with whatever I was dealing with and I didn’t understand it, I didn’t appreciate it. He’s obviously proven to be one of the greatest musicians in our generation. That’s one I take back.”

Shyne Attends Documentary Premiere

Shyne previously defended his tweet at the time during an interview with Cipha Sounds and Peter Rosenberg, as caught by HipHopDX. He argued: “I’m not talking reckless. I said the young boy got potential and I said he was talented, but the album is trash. That’s tough love. I didn’t attack him as an individual, I didn’t say anything disrespectful. It’s trash! Beats is trash, number one. And once your beats are trash, you’re finished because you can’t handle a good flow. I don’t really want to hear what you gotta say. I’ll go buy Dr. Cornel West’s album if I want to hear someone talk.”

Diddy Allegedly Performed A Bird Sacrifice Ahead Of Shyne’s Shooting Verdict

Diddy’s former bodyguard, Gene Deal, has accused the Bad Boy mogul of allegedly performing a sacrificial ritual involving a bird ahead of the verdict in a 1999 nightclub shooting involving Shyne Barrow. Deal made the accusation in the new documentary for Hulu, The Honorable Shyne, which premieres on the streaming service on Monday night.

As caught by Rolling Stone, Deal alleges in the film that Diddy had his driver take him to Central Park where a man was waiting just hours before the ruling. “When Puff got close to the guy, he just dropped down to his knees,” Deal recalled. “Next thing I see, is this smoke just going back and forth around Puff. I guess it was sage or something like that… Puff took this white bird and threw it up in the air, and the bird just fell to the ground, boom, like it was a brick. I was like, ‘Oh, sh*t!’ … The bird died, man … the bird didn’t even move. [Combs] just walked away from him real quick.”

Diddy ended up being acquitted of the charges against him while Shyne was found guilty of assault, reckless endangerment, and criminal possession of a pistol. For the crime, he was sentenced to 10 years in prison. Shyne further alleges he was set up to be the “fall guy,” in the case.

“The Honorable Shyne” To Premiere On Monday Night

After getting out of prison, Shyne was deported back to Belize, where he’s since become the leader of the Belize United Democratic Party. Check out a trailer for The Honorable Shyne below. The documentary will be hitting Hulu on Monday night.

Shyne Alleges He Spat In Diddy’s Face And Almost Sued Him Over Club Shooting

While Diddy waits for more updates in his federal case for alleged sex trafficking, Shyne continues to launch a lot of allegations against him. His more recent appearance was on The Breakfast Club, where he told folks that he once almost spat in Sean Combs’ face when he went to visit him in prison and almost sued him, as well. Moreover, for those unaware, the Belizean artist and politician claims that his Bad Boy boss turned him into the “fall guy” for a 1999 club shooting that resulted in the former serving almost nine years in jail. In addition, he’s promoting his new Honorable Hulu documentary, talking about the Puff Daddy situation and explaining how he feels betrayed.

But some don’t believe Shyne’s allegations about Diddy, including Funk Flex. “Now, Shyne, I see you being careful with your words, too,” the DJ remarked on-air during his Saturday night (November 16) program on Hot 97. “You’re tippy-toeing ’cause you don’t want me full blast on your face. […] Listen. You should get a bag of money for a bag of lies. I’m okay with that, bro. I’ma tell you, Shyne – punk. That’s what you are. You’re a punk.”

Meanwhile, here’s what Diddy had to say about these allegations from Shyne via a statement from his representative. “Mr. Combs categorically denies Mr. Barrow’s [Shyne’s] allegations, including any suggestion that he orchestrated Mr. Barrow to ‘take the fall‘ or ‘sacrificed’ him by directing witnesses to testify against him,” the statement read. “These claims are unequivocally false. Mr. Combs was acquitted of all charges related to the 1999 Club New York incident and has consistently maintained his innocence. He cannot accept or condone any characterization of his actions as ‘demonic’ or ‘malicious.’

“Mr. Combs appreciates the path Mr. Barrow has pursued and wishes him continued success,” Diddy’s statement about the Shyne allegations continued. “It is unfortunate that Mr. Barrow has chosen to revisit these allegations. Mr. Combs trusts that responsible journalism will weigh both the established legal outcomes and Mr. Combs’ positive, longstanding support for those he has worked with.” It looks like neither side will budge on their assessment of the tale, so we can expect this feud to continue.

Funk Flex Goes Scorched Earth On Shyne Over His Claims Against Diddy And The 1999 Shooting

Shyne is busy promoting his new Hulu documentary, and ruffled a lot of feathers in the process by talking about the 1999 club shooting involving him and Diddy that landed him in jail for almost nine years. For those unaware, the former rapper and politician claims that he was a scapegoat in that case, with shooting victim Natania Reuben also pointing the blame at Sean Combs. This didn’t sit well with some folks in the media, namely Funk Flex. He claimed that the Belizean artist and public official lied about the whole thing, and then the former Bad Boy signee downplayed these comments by telling TMZ that the legendary DJ had bad-mouthed legends like Jay-Z and 2Pac, so he isn’t taking him seriously.

“Now, Shyne, I see you being careful with your words, too,” Funk Flex said on-air about the Diddy allegations, responding directly to the Leader of the Opposition in Belize during his Saturday night (November 16) program on Hot 97. “You’re tippy-toeing ’cause you don’t want me full blast on your face. […] Listen. You should get a bag of money for a bag of lies. I’m okay with that, bro. I’ma tell you, Shyne – punk. That’s what you are. You’re a punk.”

Funk Flex Claps Back At Shyne’s Diddy Stories

All in all, this situation became too vague and contentious for anyone to make a solid judgement call, especially since a conviction already emerged. But regardless of Funk Flex’s retorts, Shyne firmly stands by his side of the 1999 Diddy club shooting story. Some of his most recent claims include the allegation that he never received any sort of money or compensation for allegedly becoming “the fall guy” in that trial. Take these narratives with a grain of salt, as the Bad Boy mogul denied these accusations.

Mr. Combs categorically denies Mr. Barrow’s [Shyne’s] allegations, including any suggestion that he orchestrated Mr. Barrow to ‘take the fall’ or ‘sacrificed’ him by directing witnesses to testify against him,” Diddy’s representative stated to TMZ Hip Hop. Will we ever get an answer to these questions and find out what’s really going on? Probably not. After all, there are more pressing matters…

Shyne Reveals Why He Didn’t Claim To See Diddy Allegedly Fire Gun During Nightclub Shooting

During a recent appearance on The Tamron Hall Show, Shyne discussed his upcoming documentary, The Honorable Shyne. The doc debuts on Hulu on November 18 and covers his life journey, transition from rap to politics, and more. It also touches on the 1999 NYC nightclub shooting involving Diddy, which he served almost nine years in prison for. Both he and Diddy were charged in the case, but Diddy was eventually acquitted.

Shyne alleges that he took the fall for Diddy, but despite this, never alleged that he saw Diddy fire the gun. “I didn’t see him fire the gun and I’m not going to lie,” he told Hall. “I don’t believe in getting my friends in trouble. At this point, I’m not going to make up anything to sensationalize my narrative because I don’t feel I need to do that. If Diddy was not incarcerated right now, my story would still be incredible.”

Shyne Admits He Didn’t See Diddy Fire A Gun

This isn’t the only time Shyne has discussed Diddy as of late, however. Recently, he also appeared on The Stephen A Smith Show, where he opened up about their relationship. “People say, ‘Oh Diddy gave me millions to go to jail,’” he alleged, “Nothing. [He] probably made two, what I thought were offensive contributions over the last 20 years.” He continued, going after Diddy’s character. “For years I was saying what a creep I thought he was […] How he destroyed my life, and at one point I thought he was the devil,” he stated.

A rep for Diddy responded to Shyne’s allegations in a statement to TMZ Hip Hop this week. “Mr. Combs categorically denies Mr. Barrow’s [Shyne’s] allegations, including any suggestion that he orchestrated Mr. Barrow to ‘take the fall’ or ‘sacrificed’ him by directing witnesses to testify against him,” they said. “These claims are unequivocally false. Mr. Combs was acquitted of all charges related to the 1999 Club New York incident and has consistently maintained his innocence. He cannot accept or condone any characterization of his actions as ‘demonic’ or ‘malicious.’”

Funk Flex calls out Shyne over the trailer for his documentary, The Honorable Shyne. Hitting the airwaves, Flex called Shyne a liar, referencing Shyne blaming Diddy for how the 1999 Manhattan nightclub shooting went down.

“When somebody tries to say they the scapegoat or they was used… it’s been bothering me,” said Flex on Hot 97. “And I’m gonna keep it a buck. Shyne, I love you bro, and I know what you’ve been though—no I don’t—but you’re a liar. You’re a stone-cold faced liar, Shyne.”

You can hear the full rant below.

Andscape, Disney-ESPN’s platform focused on Black culture, debuted The Honorable Shyne trailer. The new documentary feature will premiere exclusively on Hulu on Nov.18th.

The documentary, directed by Marcus A. Clarke, chronicles the remarkable life of Moses “Shyne” Barrow, a Grammy Award-winning musician who transitioned from rap stardom to political leadership.

Shyne’s rise in the late 1990s was abruptly halted when he was convicted in a high-profile New York nightclub shooting involving rap mogul Sean “Puffy” Combs. While Combs was acquitted, Shyne was sentenced to ten years in prison in 2001. After his release, Shyne returned to his native Belize and pivoted from music to politics, ultimately becoming the Leader of the Opposition Party.

The film showcases Shyne’s journey of redemption and transformation, providing an intimate look at his evolution from an incarcerated rapper to a leader working to create a brighter future for Belize.

Produced by Jason Perez, The Honorable Shyne features executive producers Dwayne Bray, Talitha Watkins, and others, with co-executive producers David Dennis Jr. and Justin Tinsley. The documentary promises an inspiring narrative of resilience and purpose.

Funk Flex Blasts Shyne For Alleging He Was Diddy’s “Fall Guy” In Nightclub Shooting

Earlier this week, Hulu dropped off a trailer for their upcoming documentary, The Honorable Shyne. The doc, which airs on November 18, will summarize Shyne’s journey to the top. Unfortunately, however, not everyone is looking forward to it. In the trailer, Shyne discusses the 1999 nightclub shooting that resulted in him going to prison for nearly a decade. He and Diddy were both charged in the case, but Diddy was later acquitted.

“I was absolutely set up to be the fall guy,” Shyne alleges in the doc. “I spent ten years in prison but I was able to move on. There’s a time to pivot, there’s a time to transition.” Now, in a new clip, Funk Flex is heard going off on Shyne for these remarks.

Funk Flex Accuses Shyne Of Lying

He repeatedly accused Shyne of being a “liar,” told him he “can’t stand” him, claimed he had “no guts,” and more. “I am going to expose you, Shyne,” he also threatened. Clearly, Funk Flex has strong feelings about all of this. This isn’t the first time he’s come to Diddy’s defense, however. At the beginning of this month, attorney Tony Buzbee announced plans to represent over 120 individuals who accuse Diddy of alleged sexual assault, abuse, and more. At the time, Funk Flex made it clear he wasn’t buying it.

“120 people sexually assaulted by Diddy, for real? 120 people, sexually assaulted by Diddy. Stop. Just say you’re broke and you need money,” Funk Flex asked in response to the allegations. “You know what we don’t like here, you know the situation we don’t like. That video with Cassie and Diddy was an awful video to watch, and that shouldn’t happen to any woman. But assaulting 120 people sounds st*pid.” What do you think of Funk Flex going off on Shyne?
