Looking back on 2023 as the year comes to an end, it’s obvious to anybody who’s been paying attention that two concert tours stood out above the rest: Taylor Swift’s The Eras Tour and Beyoncé’s Renaissance World Tour. Given that those were the leaders in the space, the treks, and the artists behind them, were subject to months and months of comparisons. For her part, Swift didn’t love that.

Swift was named Time‘s 2023 Person Of The Year yesterday (December 6), and in the cover story, she shared her perspective on being compared to Beyoncé: “There were so many stadium tours this summer, but the only ones that were compared were me and Beyoncé. Clearly, it’s very lucrative for the media and stan culture to pit two women against each other, even when those two artists in question refuse to participate in that discussion.”

She also noted of Bey, “She’s the most precious gem of a person — warm and open and funny. And she’s such a great disruptor of music-industry norms. She taught every artist how to flip the table and challenge archaic business practices.”

Of course, the two have been clear when it comes to how they feel about each other: Beyoncé showed up to the premiere of Swift’s Eras Tour movie in October, and Swift returned the favor at Beyoncé’s own concert film premiere the next month.

Last week, Taylor Swift’s massive Eras tour made a stop at Nilton Santos Stadium in Rio de Janeiro. It was the first of three shows she was scheduled to play. And like all of her concerts it was meant to show fans a great time. But tragedy struck with a 23-year-old student passed away shortly after the show. Her name was Ana Clara Benevides Machado and her discomfort began during the show itself.The concert promoter shared that she reported feeling unwell before heading to the medical tent, where she eventually passed away.

Swift herself quickly took to social media to comment on the news of her passing. “I can’t believe I’m writing these words but it is with a shattered heart that I say we lost a fan earlier tonight before my show. I can’t even tell you how devastated I am by this. There’s very little information I have other than the fact that she was so incredibly beautiful and far too young. But after the girl’s father spoke to a local paper about his desire to find out the real cause of his daughter’s death, details from the show began to circulate online.

Taylor Swift Fan’s Death Under Investigation

Once news of the fan’s death reached the internet, concerning details from the concert began to emerge. The primary point of interest has been fans being barred from bringing water bottles into the stadium. While that’s typical stadium policy in some places, Brazil is experiencing a record heat wave that made the temperatures during the concert dangerously high.

Another potential issue could be the response by stadium staff. Some reports claimed they had trouble getting water to those in the crowd who needed it. Even before news of the death was made public, videos from fans circulated online. In the clips, Taylor was seen having to call on staff to get water to specific fans. Now, Brazilian police have officially started an investigation into the events leading to her passing. Taylor Swift has postponed her second Eras Tour concert in Rio de Janeiro due to “extreme temperatures.” The decision comes after a fan died attending her opening night show at Rio’s Estádio Olímpico Nilton Santos on Friday.

“I’m writing this from my dressing room in the stadium,” Swift shared in a handwritten note on her Instagram Story, Saturday. “The decision has been made to postpone tonight’s show due to the extreme temperatures in Rio. The safety and well-being of my fans, fellow performers, and crew has to and always will come first.”

Swift addressed the fan’s passing in a statement on Instagram prior to taking the stage on Friday night. “I can’t believe I’m writing these words but it is with a shattered heart that I say we lost a fan earlier tonight before my show,” Swift wrote at the time. “I can’t even tell you how devastated I am by this. There’s very little information I have other than the fact that she was so incredibly beautiful and far too young. I’m not going to be able to speak about this from stage because I feel overwhelmed by grief when I even try to talk about it. I want to say now I feel this loss deeply and my broken heart goes out to her family and friends. This is the last thing I ever thought would happen when we decided to bring this tour to Brazil.”

During the concert, Swift paused one of her songs to ensure a group of fans got water when they appeared in need. “There’s people that need water right here, maybe 30, 35, 40 feet back,” the singer said on stage, as seen in videos posted on social media by fans. “So whoever is in charge of giving them that, just make sure that happens. A TikToker named Dannielle Sparks said she was in Florida and went to see the movie for a fourth time. However, when she was there, she spotted Kelce who seemed to be at the theater alone. She subsequently went up to Kelce and was able to get a picture with the star. Overall, it was a very cool moment, and it just goes to show how interested Donna is in all of this.

With Travis and Taylor continuing their relationship, it will be interesting to see where things go from here. Taylor Swift Changes Lyrics To Shout Out Travis Kelce During Buenos Aires Concert

Taylor Swift switched up the lyrics to her song, “Karma,” during a performance in Buenos Aires on The Eras Tour on Saturday night. In doing so, she gave a shout-out to her new boyfriend, Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce. She sang: “Karma is the guy on the Chiefs coming straight home to me.” The original lyrics go: “Karma is the guy on the screen coming straight home to me.”

Kelce was in attendance at the concert, watching on from the VIP tent. When Swift finished her set, she ran over and kissed him. The performance comes after Kelce was spotted out to dinner with Swift the night before. Kelce also hinted at attending the show during the latest episode of his podcast with his brother, Jason, noting that he planned to head somewhere “closer to the equator” this weekend.

Travis Kelce Refuses To Say If He’s Joining Taylor Swift For South American Eras Tour Concerts

Travis Kelce had a fun little exchange with his brother this week about whether he would be hitting up the Eras Tour in South America. However, Traylor fans will be left disappointed as Kelce refused to give a definitive answer. “I might just say f-ck it and just go somewhere nice, I don’t know. My skin’s getting real pale so I gotta go somewhere sunny,” Travis said on New Heights when asked by his brother if he had plans for the Chiefs’ bye week. When Travis added that he wanted to be “closer to the equator”, Jason shot back with a “South of the equator?”

Taylor Swift, Travis’ girlfriend, will be in South America for the next few weeks for the final 2023 shows on the Eras Tour. November 9-11 see her in Buenos Aires. Meanwhile, she will spend November 17-19 in Rio and November 24-26 in São Paulo. There had been speculation as to whether Kelce would join Swift in at least Argentina, given his convenient bye week. The other dates seem improbable given the Chiefs games on November 20 and 26.

Is The Swift Effect A Real Thing For Travis Kelce?

Meanwhile, a conspiracy continues to persist amongst Swifties and NFL fans that Taylor Swift is having a very real impact on Travis Kelce’s season. The Chiefs have now played nine games this season, amassing a 7-2 record. Swift has attended four games this season, half of the games Kelce has played in so far (he missed week 1 due to injury).

When Swift is in the stands, Kelce has 432 yards and 2 touchdowns (108 per game). However, when Swift is absent, Kelce has just 165 yards and two short-yardage touchdowns (41.25 per game). Furthermore, the Chiefs are 4-0 with Swift attending but suffered a blowout loss to the Broncos when she skipped that road game. Does this mean that Taylor Swift makes Travis Kelce a better football player? No, of course not. However, it does make for some fun statistical analysis for Chiefs fans to mull over during the bye.

Travis Kelce To Travel With Taylor Swift During Eras Tour International Leg

A new report suggests that Travis Kelce will be jetsetting for a good part of the NFL offseason. According to Entertainment Tonight, Kelce will join girlfriend Taylor Swift on the international leg of her Eras Tour next year. “Travis and Taylor are all in… [They] are very serious about their careers, and the two bond over that and want to show support for each other whenever they can,” a source told the outlet. Furthermore, the source claims Kelce will travel with Swift to Brazil for her concerts from November 17-19. However, that feels unlikely given that Kelce has a marquee matchup against the Eagles on November 20.

However, it’s definitely fair to assume that his plans include a majority of next year’s tour dates. Swift kicks things off in Japan in February. Depending on how the Chiefs do this year, Kelce will be unlikely to attend as the Tokyo concerts coincide with the days in the run-up to the Super Bowl. However, the rest of the dates between late February and the start of Chiefs training camp in August should be wide open for Kelce to attend. That run of shows sees Swift tour both Asia and Europe.

Kelce And Swift Swing By SNL

This past weekend, Kelce and Swift didn’t go as far afield as Asia, they did swing up to New York this past weekend. After dining at Nobu, the couple made some surprise cameos on SNL. The episode was hosted by Pete Davidson and featured Ice Spice as the musical guest. Swift’s appearance came during the musical guest segment when she appeared to introduce the performance by Ice Spice and Rema.

Meanwhile, Kelce made an appearance during a skit about his relationship with Swift. Appearing as himself, the skit was themed around an NFL broadcast trying not to talk about Taylor Swift. The episode was the first for the show since the end of the historic writer’s strike last month. Davidson served as host, fulfilling the gig that was canceled in May just after the writer’s strike began. Meanwhile, Ice Spice teamed up with Rema to perform their hit “Pretty Girl”. Overall, it was a fairly strong return for the show, which also commented on other pop culture moments such as Deion Sanders.

The success of the hitmaker’s groundbreaking tour continues, carrying over to the big screen and bringing in $39 million Friday (October 13). AMC Theatres’ estimates suggest it could have the biggest October opening in North America, passing Joker‘s $96.2 million.

“The significance of this weekend’s performance of the Taylor Swift concert film cannot be overstated, and given its outlier status and totally unique path to the multiplex is made all the more impressive and unexpected that lands in the wake of Barbenheimer big screen phenomenon,” media analyst Paul Dergarabedian told The Hollywood Reporter. “It proves once again that the movie theater has become a revenue-generating platform that is unrivaled, even among the ubiquitous and rightfully popular streaming services whose overall impact pales by in comparison to the big screen experience.”

So far, it seems as though fans are loving the film. It’s currently boasting perfect scores on both Rotten Tomatoes and CinemaScore. Swift hosted the world premiere of the film at The Grove in Los Angeles earlier this week, sharing some heartfelt words with fans. “I’ve always had fun doing this. I can’t believe I get to do music as a career. That’s cr*zy,” Swift expressed. “I’ve always had so much fun doing it. I’ve never had this much fun in my life as I have had on The Eras Tour. It is far and away just the most electric experience of my life.”

The feat’s so major that it’s even got Taylor Lautner doing backflips. Swift’s ex showed off some of his moves at a recent screening of her film, impressing fans who filmed and cheered him on. The two most impactful touring musicians of 2023, without question, are Taylor Swift and Beyoncé. It’s been a big deal when either of them has done pretty much anything this year, so it was certainly momentous when their paths crossed last night (October 11): Beyoncé made a surprise appearance at the Los Angeles premiere of Swift’s The Eras Tour concert film.

They posed for red-carpet photos together and Swift later shared a video of her and Beyoncé posing in theater seats. Her caption paid tribute to Bey and expressed gratitude for her showing up: “I’m so glad I’ll never know what my life would’ve been like without @beyonce’s influence. The way she’s taught me and every artist out here to break rules and defy industry norms. Her generosity of spirit. Her resilience and versatility. She’s been a guiding light throughout my career and the fact that she showed up tonight was like an actual fairytale.”

Per The New York Times‘ Kyle Buchanan, the two apparently had dinner together before the event, too.

Earlier in the day, Swift shared a post before the premiere, writing, “I can’t thank you enough for wanting to see this film that so vividly captures my favorite adventure I’ve ever been a part of: The Eras Tour. And the best part is, it’s an adventure we’re still on together. Getting in the car now…”
