Beyonce’s “Renaissance” Movie Is One Of The Biggest Concert Films Ever

Everything Beyonce does is larger than life, so why would her recently released concert film be any different? Last year she took a big swing with the house and dance-themed album Renaissance. The project was her first since 2016’s Lemonade and turned out to be a smash success with both fans and critics. So earlier this year when it came time to embark on the Renaissance tour she similarly did it big. At shows across Europe and North America, she unpacked some of her biggest hits to adoring crowds.

With the concerts grabbing headline news nearly every night it’s no surprise that Beyonce captured the glory of it all on film. That eventually became the Renaissance concert film which released in theaters earlier this week. Unsurprisingly, the film soared to impressive box office numbers right away. According to HipHopDX despite being out for just half a month, it’s already landed among the top 5 concert films of all time. Her $30 million at the US box office places her alongside Taylor Swift, Justin Bieber, Michael Jackson, and Miley Cyrus in the top 5.

Beyonce’s “Renaissance” Film Numbers

It’s no surprise that the film is doing so well after the start it got off to. The film had the biggest December opening weekend of any film in the past 20 years. It came just a few weeks after a different concert film achieved similar success. Much like Beyonce’s Renaissance tour, Taylor Swift’s Eras tour dominated headlines all year.

Taylor’s concert film came out a few weeks before Bey’s and also reached astounding levels of success. Both films had smash premiers that saw them completely taking over the box office from conventional movies. After its first month at the box office had wrapped up she surpassed Justin Bieber to score the highest-grossing concert film of all time. What do you think of Beyonce’s Renaissance film cracking the top 5 highest-grossing concert films of all time in just a few weeks? Let us know in the comment section below.

Kendrick Lamar Opens Up On What Makes “Mr. Morale” Concert Film Special

Last year, Kendrick Lamar returned with his new album Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers. The project followed a long 5-year drought of studio albums dating back to the release of DAMN. in 2017. Following the release of the critically acclaimed album he took off on a major tour in support of it. Dates across North America and Europe saw the rapper lighting up the stage for massive delighted crowds. Much like some of his major touring contemporaries Taylor Swift and Beyonce did this year, Kendrick captured the magic of the tour in a concert film.

For the Mr. Morale concert film, Kendrick focused on just one show rather than collecting performances from various shows and assembling them together. The show he chose to focus on was a massive sold-out affair in Paris in October of last year. The show was originally streamed through Twitch before an edited version made its way onto Amazon Prime. Earlier this week Kendrick was in attendance for a screening of the film which was followed by a Q&A where he explained some of the motivation behind the project. Check out some of the answers he gave below.

Kendrick Lamar On His Concert Film

In the Q&A, Kendrick Lamar answers numerous questions about the creative decisions that went into the film. When asked about why he chose Paris Kendrick had some jokes before delivering a genuine answer. “N-ggas was just copying JAY-Z and Kanye,” he joked. “We was thuggin’ around that m*thafucka like 2012, 2014. That was like second home, just shooting sh*t, just getting material. So to go back and shoot on the anniversary of good kid, that’s special.”

When asked what he did differently knowing the show was being filmed, Kendrick had a hilarious answer. “The difference for me was, I was shaking major ass, man. I ain’t never shaken that much ass, bro! But at the same time, it’s freeing, though, ’cause that’s who I am.” What do you think of Kendrick Lamar’s reflections on his concert film from last year? Beyonce’s “Renaissance” Film Loses Top Box Office Spot With 75% Drop-Off

Beyonce’s Renaissance concert film took a steep tumble at the box office with its second week in theaters. The documentary suffered a 75% drop in earnings and is only projected to take in $5.6 million. It had debuted the week before with $21.8 million, making history for the first weekend in December.

Instead of Renaissance, Hayao Miyazaki’s newest anime film, The Boy and the Heron, led the way with $12.8 million in its opening weekend. In doing so, it became the first original anime production to top the domestic box office. Other releases from last weekend include Poor Things, which pulled in $644,000 from just nine theaters. It’s $72,000 marks the best per-theater average of the fall awards season.

Despite the success being short-lived, Beyonce celebrated Renaissance: A Film By Beyonce’s spot atop the box office charts in a statement on Instagram, last week. “I am so deeply thankful to AMC and every team member who worked so hard on this film,” Beyonce began. “I just can’t thank all of you enough for your support. It was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done because of the short turn around time. I practically slept in the edit, color, and mix sessions. The race against time continued in order to get this film out so quickly. But it was so worth all the grind. I am overwhelmed by the outpouring of love from my Hive. And WOW! I am so touched and encouraged by the incredible reviews!!!”

She continued: “While I’m often critical and feel my art is never finished, the pendulum swings. I feel gratitude. ‘We did it.’ We have the #1 movie in the country! And a [100 emoji] on Rotten Tomatoes. And it’s because of you and your support! I humbly thank you.” Be on the lookout for further updates on Beyonce on HotNewHipHop.

Beyonce’s “RENAISSANCE” Concert Movie Looks To Have A Massive Opening Weekend

We are now just about 24 hours away from an icon’s concert film hitting select theaters. Beyonce’s, RENAISSANCE: A FILM BY BEYONCÉ, recently had a private showing over the holiday weekend on November 25. Plenty of stars stepped out to support the Houston native, including people like Lizzo and almost the entire cast of Destiny’s Child. There was a hot topic that came out that event that centered around Beyonce’s look. Many were saying she was trying to be white and rip off Kim Kardashian’s style.

Even though that moment was bothersome, especially for her mother, Tina Knowles, it appeared to be a successful evening. Over the past month or so, Beyonce has teased the movie with trailers including one that dropped on Thanksgiving. The icon shared a message to her followers, wishing them a Happy Holiday, while also revealing a first look at her film.

Beyonce Shares Thanksgiving Message With Fans & Preview Of “RENAISSANCE” Film

Beyonce is one of pop culture’s most beloved figures, so a “Happy Thanksgiving” from her- for those who celebrate- means a whole lot more. Moreover, she recently shared a special message with fans for the holiday, which is sure to give a wholesome boost to your day. Not only that, but the Houston superstar also let folks know that she hasn’t forgotten about her fast-approaching treat for the BeyHive making its theater debut very soon. She also gave a new sneak peek of the upcoming RENAISSANCE concert film, coming out very soon in December. With all this celebration to take in, the turkey’s going to taste a lot better today.

“Hey, it’s Beyonce!” the “CUFF IT” singer began her message. “Wishing you and your family a very happy Thanksgiving. I’m so honored to share with you the first look at the new RENAISSANCE film trailer.” In addition, you can hear her speak on the album and concert series’ experience in the trailer clip. “I have nothing to prove to anyone at this point. Beyonce Celebrates Thanksgiving With New RENAISSANCE Film Preview

This is building up a lot of excitement for the RENAISSANCE film, as well as contributing to praise of Beyonce from surprising places. For example, André 3000 recently thanked her and Jay-Z for allowing him to use her name in one of his new album’s track’s titles. “Ninety Three ‘Til Infinity And Beyoncé” is one of the shorter moments on New Blue Sun, but nonetheless a powerful and immersive one. It goes to show that Queen Bey needs to give her stamp of approval for anything that wants to touch her brand, even if it’s just her name.

Meanwhile, if her Vegas residency budget is anything to go off of, the RENAISSANCE movie is going to be an opulent, grand, and wholly unique experience. It’s hard to compare, but the tour was so successful and larger-than-life that we can’t help but draw connections between the funds and the final product. What are you most excited to see in the concert documentary? Let us know in the comments and stay posted on HNHH for more news and updates on Beyonce.

Beyonce dropped the first trailer for the film in October. In that teaser, she discussed her goals while performing. “When I am performing, I am nothing but free,” she said at the time. “The goal for this tour was to create a place where everyone is free, and no one is judged. Unique. Start over, start fresh. Create the new. That’s what the renaissance is about. At any point, they could close their eyes and be right back there and take it with them.” That trailer also featured an appearance from JAY-Z. Beyoncé Attends Premiere Of Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour

However, Beyoncé isn’t the only person putting out a concert film this year. Last month, Taylor Swift released Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour, which recapped the North American leg of her own massive 2023 tour. While Swift will tour Asia and Europe next year, the decision was made to release the film following the North American leg.

Furthermore, when the film was released last month, Beyoncé was on hand to join Swift at the premiere. “I’m so glad I’ll never know what my life would’ve been like without @beyonce‘s influence. The way she’s taught me and every artist out here to break rules and defy industry norms. Her generosity of spirit. Her resilience and versatility. She’s been a guiding light throughout my career and the fact that she showed up tonight was like an actual fairytale. 😇🙏🥹,” Swift wrote of the moment on Instagram.

Taylor Swift’s “Eras Tour” Film Expecting $100M Opening, Taylor Lautner Does Flips At Screening

Taylor Swift premiered her new concert film, Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour yesterday, and it’s already on its way to breaking records. The success of the hitmaker’s groundbreaking tour continues, carrying over to the big screen and bringing in $39 million Friday (October 13). AMC Theatres’ estimates suggest it could have the biggest October opening in North America, passing Joker‘s $96.2 million.

“The significance of this weekend’s performance of the Taylor Swift concert film cannot be overstated, and given its outlier status and totally unique path to the multiplex is made all the more impressive and unexpected that lands in the wake of Barbenheimer big screen phenomenon,” media analyst Paul Dergarabedian told The Hollywood Reporter. “It proves once again that the movie theater has become a revenue-generating platform that is unrivaled, even among the ubiquitous and rightfully popular streaming services whose overall impact pales by in comparison to the big screen experience.”

Taylor Swift Could Break Records With New Tour Film

So far, it seems as though fans are loving the film. It’s currently boasting perfect scores on both Rotten Tomatoes and CinemaScore. Swift hosted the world premiere of the film at The Grove in Los Angeles earlier this week, sharing some heartfelt words with fans. “I’ve always had fun doing this. I can’t believe I get to do music as a career. That’s cr*zy,” Swift expressed. “I’ve always had so much fun doing it. I’ve never had this much fun in my life as I have had on The Eras Tour. It is far and away just the most electric experience of my life.”

The feat’s so major that it’s even got Taylor Lautner doing backflips. Swift’s ex showed off some of his moves at a recent screening of her film, impressing fans who filmed and cheered him on. It’s no secret that the actor is a major supporter of The Eras Tour, popping out for various dates in recent months. He even made a surprise appearance onstage at her Kansas stop in July, again, flipping his way onto the stage.

Beyonce’s “RENAISSANCE” Concert Film Dropping In AMC Theaters, Source Claims

According to a recent report by Variety, Beyonce is in the end stages of working out a deal with AMC to distribute a RENAISSANCE concert film to their theaters. A source reportedly told the outlet that fans could get to see the project as soon as December 1 of this year. The source also adds that the deal will see Beyonce taking home roughly half of the film’s gross earnings. The deal is similar to the deal Taylor Swift recently agreed to for her Eras Tour concert film coming out next month.

Fans have been eagerly-anticipating more news of Beyonce’s RENAISSANCE concert film for some time now. Another source claims that the film will include documentary-style elements showcasing Beyonce’s process of putting the tour and album together. It’ll also reportedly include footage from some of her most significant performances from the tour, as well as pieces of her long-awaited RENAISSANCE visuals.

At the beginning of this month, it was rumored that the icon was shopping the visual album around with various streamers and studios. Above The Line spoke with a source who revealed that the “artsy” film was directed by Nadia Lee Cohen. “It’s a visual album movie,” the source explained. “But it’s like an art film, and I’ve also heard it’s better than Black Is King.”

Apparently, she had been weighing out her options for some time, and started shopping it around earlier this year. Nothing had ever come of it, however. “I’m guessing the price and lack of replay value for the casual viewer,” the source said. “Or maybe Beyoncé didn’t like how it turned out? I don’t know…” What do you think of Beyonce’s reported plans to distribute her RENAISSANCE concert film directly to AMC Theaters? Are you looking forward to seeing it?
