Move over Mission Impossible. If anyone needed even more confirmation that pop stars saved movie theaters in 2023, AMC Theaters revealed just how thankful they were for Taylor Swift’s The Eras Tour and Beyoncé’s Renaissance Tour being released as films through unique deals with their chain.
“What is particularly noteworthy is how much AMC benefited from our trailblazing industry leading efforts with our highly successful distribution of two concert movies Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour and Renaissance: A Film By Beyoncé,” AMC’s CEO Adam Aron shared with Deadline. He also noted, “Literally, all of that increase in AMC’s Revenue and EBITDA is attributable to our having shown these two movies in our theatres in the U.S. and internationally.”
By their two movies alone, their fourth-quarter earnings rose by 11%, providing the theater company with $1.1 billion in revenue. This was way higher than what Wall Street had apparently initially projected for AMC.
“This is a stunning result given that neither of these films were on anyone’s drawing board until mid-year, and that they were the first movies ever distributed by AMC in our entire 103-year history,” Aron said.
“To that end, our praise for Taylor Swift and Beyoncé Knowles Carter has no limit, and we offer our boundless thanks to these two world class artists for entrusting AMC to collaborate with them as to the theatrical exhibition of their two masterpiece creations,” he added.
Several outlets have reported that Travis Kelce boarded a private jet from Hawaii to Sydney earlier today to join Taylor Swift on her Eras Tour. Kelce, who was spotted in Las Vegas earlier in the week, reportedly flew from LA to Hawaii before staying the night in the island state. He then reportedly transferred to a private jet that departed for Sydney, where Swift is currently performing, earlier today.
It marks something of an inverse journey to the one that Swift made earlier this month. Swift made a rapid departure from Tokyo on February 10. She flew through the night to make it to Vegas for the Super Bowl the following day. Despite the travel ordeal, Swift appeared fresh-faced and ready to party alongside Ice Spice at the big game. Swift has four shows in Sydney to end February before opening March with a six-show run in Singapore. After that, the pop megastar heads to Europe, where she will remain until August alongside opening act Paramore. After that, Swift returns to North America. She ends her tour with shows in Miami, New Orleans, Indianapolis, Toronto, and Vancouver.
However, prior to his circumnavigation, Kelce was spotted in Vegas, the site of his third career Super Bowl win, after a chaotic week. Members of Kelce’s entourage posted shots of the tight end golfing and enjoying Mexican food on the strip. Of course, Kelce has had a week like no other. Just days after winning Super Bowl LVIII, Kelce was caught up in a mass shooting when individuals opened fire at the Chiefs’ victory parade in Kansas City.’
Furthermore, sources indicate that Kelce might not be the only member of the team headed back to Vegas. DJ Adam Daudier, who was playing at Toca Madera during Kelce’s meal, told TMZ that Kelce had “asked me to play a private event for the Kansas City Chiefs this Friday.” Kelce had 93 yards and no touchdowns during the Chiefs’ overtime comeback win in the Super Bowl against the 49ers.
Speculation has arisen that Taylor Swift may be racing to Las Vegas to attend the Super Bowl after a rapid departure from Tokyo, Japan. Swift kicked off the Asian and European leg of her Eras Tour with a quartet of shows in the Japanese capital. Last week, Taylor Swift’s massive Eras tour made a stop at Nilton Santos Stadium in Rio de Janeiro. It was the first of three shows she was scheduled to play. And like all of her concerts it was meant to show fans a great time. But tragedy struck with a 23-year-old student passed away shortly after the show. Her name was Ana Clara Benevides Machado and her discomfort began during the show itself.The concert promoter shared that she reported feeling unwell before heading to the medical tent, where she eventually passed away.
Swift herself quickly took to social media to comment on the news of her passing. “I can’t believe I’m writing these words but it is with a shattered heart that I say we lost a fan earlier tonight before my show. I can’t even tell you how devastated I am by this. There’s very little information I have other than the fact that she was so incredibly beautiful and far too young. But after the girl’s father spoke to a local paper about his desire to find out the real cause of his daughter’s death, details from the show began to circulate online.
Once news of the fan’s death reached the internet, concerning details from the concert began to emerge. The primary point of interest has been fans being barred from bringing water bottles into the stadium. While that’s typical stadium policy in some places, Brazil is experiencing a record heat wave that made the temperatures during the concert dangerously high.
Another potential issue could be the response by stadium staff. Some reports claimed they had trouble getting water to those in the crowd who needed it. Even before news of the death was made public, videos from fans circulated online. In the clips, Taylor was seen having to call on staff to get water to specific fans. Now, Brazilian police have officially started an investigation into the events leading to her passing. Taylor Swift has postponed her second Eras Tour concert in Rio de Janeiro due to “extreme temperatures.” The decision comes after a fan died attending her opening night show at Rio’s Estádio Olímpico Nilton Santos on Friday.
“I’m writing this from my dressing room in the stadium,” Swift shared in a handwritten note on her Instagram Story, Saturday. “The decision has been made to postpone tonight’s show due to the extreme temperatures in Rio. The safety and well-being of my fans, fellow performers, and crew has to and always will come first.”

Swift addressed the fan’s passing in a statement on Instagram prior to taking the stage on Friday night. “I can’t believe I’m writing these words but it is with a shattered heart that I say we lost a fan earlier tonight before my show,” Swift wrote at the time. “I can’t even tell you how devastated I am by this. There’s very little information I have other than the fact that she was so incredibly beautiful and far too young. I’m not going to be able to speak about this from stage because I feel overwhelmed by grief when I even try to talk about it. I want to say now I feel this loss deeply and my broken heart goes out to her family and friends. This is the last thing I ever thought would happen when we decided to bring this tour to Brazil.”
During the concert, Swift paused one of her songs to ensure a group of fans got water when they appeared in need. “There’s people that need water right here, maybe 30, 35, 40 feet back,” the singer said on stage, as seen in videos posted on social media by fans. “So whoever is in charge of giving them that, just make sure that happens. Is The Swift Effect A Real Thing For Travis Kelce?
Meanwhile, a conspiracy continues to persist amongst Swifties and NFL fans that Taylor Swift is having a very real impact on Travis Kelce’s season. The Chiefs have now played nine games this season, amassing a 7-2 record. Swift has attended four games this season, half of the games Kelce has played in so far (he missed week 1 due to injury).
When Swift is in the stands, Kelce has 432 yards and 2 touchdowns (108 per game). However, when Swift is absent, Kelce has just 165 yards and two short-yardage touchdowns (41.25 per game). Furthermore, the Chiefs are 4-0 with Swift attending but suffered a blowout loss to the Broncos when she skipped that road game. Does this mean that Taylor Swift makes Travis Kelce a better football player? No, of course not. However, it does make for some fun statistical analysis for Chiefs fans to mull over during the bye.
