The Whooliganz: Where Are They Now?

Before The Alchemist and Scott Caan went on to establish themselves as individual figures in the entertainment industry, they were in a hip-hop group together called The Whooliganz. In the early 1990s, the two met as teenagers in Beverly Hills, connecting through hip-hop. They formed The Whooliganz, with Alchemist going by the name Mudfoot, and Caan as Mad Skillz. The group generated a buzz in California, associating with Cypress Hill and House Of Pain. The Whooliganz released their first single, “Put Your Handz Up” in 1993. It was intended for their debut album on Tommy Boy Records. After the label eventually shelved the group, they went their separate ways to establish individual careers for themselves.

The Alchemist and Scott Caan reunited as The Whooliganz in 2014. Caan joined Domo Genesis on Alchemist and Evidence’s Step Brothers project, Lord Steppington highlight, “Byron G.” Celebrating its 10th anniversary the following month, their 2014 collaboration is their most recent release. Step Brothers, however, told DJ Vlad that The Whooliganz recorded another song with Action Bronson. “He killed everybody on that one,” Alchemist and Evidence exclaimed about Caan’s lyrical performance. This second Whooliganz record where Scott Caan supposedly out-rapped Action Bronson remains unreleased. Aside from their reunion last decade, The Alchemist and Scott Caan have remained successful in their respective industries. Here is a look into where The Whooliganz are now.

Shortly after The Whooliganz parted ways, Scott Caan pursued acting, following in the footsteps of his father, James Caan. Known for his roles in the Ocean’s trilogy, Entourage, and Hawaii Five-0, Scott Caan has continued with acting. Recently, he has been involved in both film and TV. After Hawaii Five-0 concluded in 2020, Caan’s latest roles both premiered this year. He currently stars as Jason Grant in Alert: Missing Persons Unit, which premiered in January. The series revolves around the Philadelphia Police Department’s Missing Persons Unit. Scott Caan assumed the lead role of Jackie Powers in the 2023 action thriller comedy film, One Day as a Lion, starring alongside Frank Grillo and J.K. Simmons. Caan also serves as executive producer and a writer for the movie, continuing his long-lasting career in the TV and film industries.

The Alchemist has cemented himself as one of hip hop’s most esteemed producers. He is known for his eclectic samples and hypnotic boom-bap loops. Respected by both mainstream and underground audiences, the veteran producer, rapper, and DJ has worked with almost everyone in the game. The Alchemist started producing for acts like Mobb Deep and Dilated Peoples early in his career before following a path of quality and consistency. He then struck a balance between DJing for Eminem and solidifying his lane as an independent artist. In addition to The Whooliganz, The Alchemist is a member of multiple hip-hop duos, including the aforementioned Step Brothers with Evidence, and Gangrene with Oh No.

Recently, The Alchemist has remained consistent as a rapper and producer. He crafted beats for a host of different artists and produced full-length collaborations. This year, he and Larry June released The Great Escape, and Mike and Wiki tapped him for Faith Is Like A Rock. He and Earl Sweatshirt joined forces for Voir Dire, one of 2023’s best hip-hop albums. Larry June, Earl Sweatshirt, and Mike also contributed verses to the producer’s Flying High project. Along with the beats he has tailored for other artists, The Alchemist spat bars with some of his closest collaborators on Flying High Pt. 2. His latest EP features appearances from Conway the Machine, Action Bronson, Oh No, and Curren$y

The Alchemist And Action Bronson Are A Fun Pair On “Vertigo” From “Flying High 2”

The Alchemist is one of the busiest producers of 2023. In fact, he may just be the most active one this year. It all began in the middle of February with a single featuring Larry June, “60 Days.” That turned out to be the lead track off of their collaborative record, The Great Escape. From that point on, there was no slowing down for Uncle Al. A couple of months later, he and Domo Genesis got together for No Idols. Additionally, others like Roc Marciano, MIKE and Wiki, as well as Earl Sweatshirt all got to work on their respective efforts with him too.

But, before those tapes, he put out a solo EP, Flying High at the end of June. The Alchemist grabbed Earl for that as well, including billy woods, Boldy James, and more for the four tracks to go along with instrumental versions. Now, he is getting ready for his seventh project. It will be the sequel to Flying High. Supposedly dropping at midnight tonight, November 3, the format will remain the same. However, this time there will be five songs and their accompanying instrumentals.

The Alchemist, MIKE, & Wiki Gear Up For Collab Album With Lead Single “Mayors A Cop”

Beverly Hills, California producer, The Alchemist has been one of the busiest artists in the rap game all year long. In 2023 alone he put out four albums and now is up to eight singles in nine months. But, this should come as no surprise because his work ethic has been like this since he burst onto the scene back in the mid-2000s. The first project he released was with king of laid-back rap, Larry June. The Great Escape featured Big Sean, Action Bronson, Ty Dolla $ign, Boldy James and more. Then, On April 20, he teamed up with Domo Genisis for No Idols.

The grind continued, as just two months would pass before Flying High made its way to streaming. Finally, on the first day of September, The Elephant Man’s Bones The ALC Edition with Roc Marciano would be the most recent album. In between and after that, The Alchemist was still hopping on other albums and releasing more singles. Just last week, Vince Staples and Earl Sweatshirt joined him for the terrific track, “The Caliphate.” He also worked alongside frequent partner in crime, Westside Gunn, and Travis Scott. It was a surprise for many to see him land on such a massive mainstream release. He absolutely killed it on UTOPIA, with his instrumental input on “LOST FOREVER.”

Earl Sweatshirt And The Alchemist’s New Album Coming To Streaming With New Tracks

Last month, Earl Sweatshirt and The Alchemist teamed up for a new album. While the pair have worked together on songs in the past this is the first time they’ve ever made an entire album together. The project was called Voir Dire and while it received lots of critical acclaim plenty of fans didn’t get the chance to hear it. That’s because the album was exclusively released on an NFT based music streaming service called Gala.

Now thanks to a new announcement, fans who haven’t heard the record yet know when they’ll be able to give it a try. “You asked for it. VOIR DIRE on all streaming platforms 10/6,” The Alchemist announced in a new Instagram post. The excitement came with layers as well. Not only is the album arriving on streaming very soon, but it’s coming with three new tracks. Two of the new tracks feature one of Earl Sweatshirt’s longest-running collaborators, Vince Staples. The first of the pair, “The Caliphate” dropped on streaming last night. Check out the Instagram post below.

Earl Sweatshirt & The Alchemist’s Album Headed For Streaming

The release on streaming will come at a pretty good time. Fans will have the chance to see Alc and Earl performing songs from the album when they take it on tour later this year. The pair will spend November of this year touring behind the record. They’ll hit 11 cities across North America alongside MIKE and Black Noise.

In a recent interview with Zane Lowe on Apple Music Radio, Earl confessed to being a very sensitive rapper. “I’m the most sensitive n*gga that’s outside. I’m not going to lie to you. No, that’s what I was saying outside to them. I was like, what if I went in there with Zane Lowe and sat down and just started profusely crying right now. Serious,” he said in the interview. What do you think of Earl Sweatshirt & The Alchemist’s new album dropping on streaming with two new Vince Staples features? Let us know in the comment section below.

Earl Sweatshirt And The Alchemist Announced The ‘Voir Dire Tour’ With Mike And Black Noise To Close 2023

The normally reclusive Earl Sweatshirt has been out and about lately, performing his debut album Doris at a string of 10th-anniversary shows attended by some of his old Odd Future compatriots. It looks like he isn’t quite ready to go back inside yet; today, he and The Alchemist announced their Voir Dire Tour promoting the joint album they released via NFT platform Gala Music last month. The Alchemist and Earl have been very prolific as a duo of late, collaborating on songs from Al’s June EP Flying High after allegedly slipping an album onto YouTube under a false name back in 2021. The duo also toured together in 2022 alongside Action Bronson.

This time, they’ll be bringing along frequent collaborator MIKE and producer Black Noi$e, who produced a couple of tracks on Earl’s 2022 album, Sick! The tour kicks off November 6 and runs through the 27th, hitting the Pacific Northwest, the Bay Area, and key stops in the South and East Coast (although, curiously, it does not run through their shared hometown, Los Angeles. I’m betting that’s going to change at some point). You can see the tour dates below.

11/06 — Seattle, WA @ Showbox SODO
11/07 — Portland, OR @ McMenamin’s Crystal Ballroom
11/09 — San Francisco, CA @ The Regency Ballroom
11/14 — Dallas, TX @ The Studio at The Factory
11/15 — Houston, TX @ The Ballroom at Warehouse Live
11/18 — Atlanta, GA @ Heaven at The Masquerade
11/20 — Washington, DC @ The Fillmore Silver Spring
11/21 — Philadelphia, PA @ Theatre of Living Arts
11/22 — New York City, NY @ Brooklyn Steel
