At yesterday’s (May 1) Met Gala, guests were served a meal of, as Vogue notes, “chilled spring pea soup with baby vegetables, lemon crème fraîche, and truffle snow, followed by Ōra King salmon with vegetable nage, asparagus, pickled strawberries, and radish–all served on vintage china.” Caterer Olivier Cheng explained, “This menu was designed to honor the late fashion icon [Karl Lagerfeld] and pay homage to his favorite foods and global palate. These dishes were created to maintain seasonality while using some of his favorite ingredients, such as King salmon. There is a sophisticated elegance to these pairings, one we feel that he would have truly enjoyed.”
To that, Teyana Taylor said no and opted to bring her own Chick-Fil-A instead.
Pusha T couldn’t believe what he was seeing, so he documented it on his Instagram Story, showing off Taylor’s plate of chicken, waffle fries, and dipping sauce. He wrote on one of the videos, @teyanataylor is embarrassing me. She brought @chicfilausa to the #MetGala. I want her away from me…#HARLEM.” In another clip, Usher looks at what Taylor has going on and does some light teasing.

Teyana Taylor recently shared how she was disappointed with how little Pharrell pushed for her success when she was signed to him early on in her career.
The R&B singer inked a deal with Pharrell’s Star Trak imprint back in 2007 when she was just 15 years old. Teyana released From a Planet Called Harlem while signed to Star Trak, but said she negotiated her way out of her deal in 2012 because she wanted a certain level of creative independence within the industry. Taylor then joined up with Kanye West’s G.O.O.D. Music.
In a recent interview with Angie Martinez’ IRL podcast, Taylor said there was a time during her tenure at Star Trak that she was frustrated by the way Pharrell handled her career.
“Getting signed to a man, it was like a figure to me … I looked at these people like figures. Whether it was as a dad, as a brother, it didn’t matter. So it’s like, you didn’t see me, you didn’t hear me, you didn’t protect me. you kind of just like fed me to the wolves type-shit without probably even knowing,” she told Martinez. “Some of those conversations still need to be had.”
She continued: “I had a really, really, really, really deep and honest conversation with Pharrell, because, you know, he was the first person to sign me. He was Skateboard P, I was Skateboard T. You cannot tell me that wasn’t my pops. I really looked up to him. He didn’t have kids at the time, and he wanted kids. He’d be like, ‘Yo, she call me her pops.’ He was really proud of that.”
She went on to say that she was like Pharrell’s “baby twin,” but that as her career progressed he didn’t do much to elevate her to the next level.
“He’s not confrontational at all. He’s literally one of the sweetest people in just the whole wide world, you know what I’m saying? So, it wasn’t that he didn’t protect me, it’s just that a lot of hands started going into the cookie jar … it’s P, he not ’bout to be like. ‘No, y’all n-ggas back up,’” she explained
“Maybe he was hurt about some things. You don’t know. It could’ve been a thing of pride and ego at the time. We don’t know. To me, as a 15-year-old, it was, you didn’t protect me. You let everyone mishandle me. I signed to you. You let everybody get in the way and everybody break us apart. You didn’t protect me.”
Fast forward to the 30:14 mark to hear her feelings about Pharrell.
But Latto still had a special guest behind the scenes. Teyana Taylor and her The Aunties Productions handled the creative direction of Latto’s set.
“The Aunties are not just regular creative directors, we’re cool creative directors @theauntiesinc,” Taylor captioned an Instagram compilation video of how Latto’s Coachella set came together, beginning the morning of April 16.
“I am truly a proud AUNTEYYYYYYYYYYYYY @latto777 you did ya big one both weekends,” Taylor continued. “I’m so proud of your growth, willingness to be a student to better your craft and your dedication! I’m so excited for the journey ahead with you as your CD. 4 shows down together and a lot more to goooooooo! Let’s goooooo!”
Latto posted from the Special 2our, kicking off on Friday, April 21 — Lizzo’s second North American leg of her 2022 Special Tour, which Latto has opened for in its entirety. The second photo in the Instagram carousel is of Latto backstage with Taylor.
Latto and Taylor have been developing their creative rapport for a while, as Vibepointed out in June 2021 that Taylor served as the creative director for Latto’s debut PrettyLittleThing campaign.

Jack Harlow is a newer name to the industry, but he’s been all over the place the last few years. The rapper has been dropping hit after hit, and half the time, it seems like you can’t escape him. Last year, it was practically impossible to go on social media without hearing Harlow’s hit song “First Class.” Every TikToker under the sun used it at some point. Jack Harlow, however, seems to want to branch out beyond music. The Kentucky native has been stepping into more acting roles recently. He just appeared on Lil Dicky’s FX show Dave, where he played himself. Now, Harlow is taking on a more substantial role in the new Hulu remake of White Men Can’t Jump.
Jack Harlow is a rapper, singer, and songwriter hailing from Louisville, Kentucky. He first gained widespread recognition with his 2020 hit single “What’s Poppin,” which topped the US Billboard Hot 100 chart and has since been certified quadruple platinum. It also earned him his first Grammy nomination. Harlow’s musical style blends elements of hip hop, R&B, and pop, and his lyrics often touch on themes of personal ambition, self-discovery, and social commentary. In recent years, he has been nominated for several more Grammys, including one for his hit “First Class,” which samples Fergie’s “Glamourous.” In addition to his music, Harlow is also known for his fashion sense and has been featured in several high-profile fashion campaigns.
Jack Harlow, A White Girl At Whole Foods
The teaser for White Men Can’t Jump premiered back in February to pretty mixed reactions on social media. Some thought the film looked pretty good and were intrigued by it. “Why does White Men Can’t Jump with Jack Harlow actually look really good…” one tweet read. Others, however, felt that the trailer failed to capture the magic of the original film. “Sorry, I don’t see the same personality and charisma that Snipes and Harrelson had,” one user complained. “I’ll pass. Hope I’m wrong.”
The new trailer gives us a better glimpse at both Jack Harlow and Sinqua Walls, who star in the lead roles. Both characters are in need of money, so they devise a plan to enter a basketball competition that could win them $50,000. New footage also shows the characters’ strained interpersonal relationships as they are both chided for having their heads in the clouds. White Men Can’t Jump will be released in mid-May on Hulu. Will you be watching? Let us know in the comments!
Teyana Taylor’s best looks show that she is a multifaceted artist. Taylor has evolved from her TV debut as the ultimate My Super Sweet Sixteen birthday girl to a successful solo hitmaker. She won our hearts with multiple albums, film credits, and dancing in Kanye West’s “Fade” music video. Since 2016, she has sealed her status as a dance and gym inspiration for us all. Additionally, Taylor has been a front-row regular at fashion weeks. She has appeared in major advertising campaigns and has walked in numerous runway shows. Taylor, previously known exclusively for her tomboyish style, can now effortlessly move from sweatsuits to chic little black dresses, elegant ballgowns, and high heels.
Red Carpet Glamour
Over the years, the “Google Me” hitmaker has walked the red carpet in some of the most memorable outfits. Taylor knows how to make a statement, whether channeling a tomboyish aesthetic or a more feminine one. The singer has shown she could pull off understated glamour months after she shattered the internet with her performance in “Fade.”
In December 2016, Taylor attended and performed for the 2016 VH1 Holiday: Unsilent Night event. There, she wore a Jason Boateng Spring 2016 one-shoulder floor-length gown with a sleeveless beaded panel, a beaded stone hem, and a train, all adding to her magnificent appearance. And who could forget Teyana Taylor’s jaw-dropping custom Prabal Gurung design from the Met Gala on September 13, 2021?
Street Style Cool
Taylor’s streetwear styles may be her staples. She often appears in a vintage graphic T-shirt, choker necklaces, black eyeglasses, and a Louis Vuitton hat. It doesn’t matter if she’s attending an event where her peers are decked out in ball gowns—Taylor’s style often transcends expectations. At last year’s Billboard Music Awards, Teyana commanded attention. She once again flexed her super-toned abs in a sheer cami crop top. Taylor paired that with baggy, industrial-style pants and matching boots. The black and silver look, along with the dark glasses, embodied mystery.
Retro Chic
At the 2017 MTV Video Music Awards, Teyana Taylor paid homage to Janet Jackson by recreating her outfit from the 1995 awards event. Taylor, like Jackson, donned a white short-sleeved crop top and black wide-leg slacks, both of which accentuated her great abs. Yet, the similarities didn’t end there: in 1995, the pop music icon won the award for Best Dance Video.
In 2017, Taylor won the same award for her role in Kanye West’s “Fade” video. The artist again paid homage to Janet Jackson at the 2022 Glamour Women of the Year Awards. Taylor evoked the ’90s pop nostalgia in an elongated black satin blazer she wore to the event. The loose-fitting jacket featured oversized lapels and ballooning sleeves. In addition, she wore a vintage Janet Jackson “Rhythm Nation” T-shirt and baggy cargo leggings with the coat.
Glam Rocker
Teyana Taylor made an edgy entrance at 2022’s BET Awards, which took place at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles. Taylor’s monochromatic look with eye-catching accessories featured a black trench coat with silver stud decorations and white tassels on the sleeves and sides. Further, she complemented her outfit with a pair of rectangle Balenciaga sunglasses and a chunky chain choker. She finished the look with a swipe of bright red lipstick and a bun made of her long, shiny locs.
Again, Teyana Taylor mastered glam rocker fashion at the 2023 Essence Black Women in Hollywood Awards. Here, she wore a plaid ensemble that was the talk of the red carpet. Taylor donned a striking outfit to the Los Angeles’ Fairmont Century Plaza event. The look featured a black turtleneck shirt underneath an oversized blazer, landing her on many best-dressed lists.
A pair of black wide-leg trousers featuring a yellow plaid print and a blue plaid scarf rounded up the outfit. Finally, the star complemented her heavy metal ensemble with a metallic lip ring and a thin gold necklace. Also, she carried a Dior purse whose thick chain strap was adorned with gold “Christian Dior” lettering charms.
Bad news for the Jack Harlow haters — which, apparently, includes fellow white rapper/hooper Lil Dicky — but the White Men Can’t Jump remake looks GREAT in its new trailer. All the hallmarks of the original remain intact: the trash talk, the friction between the two protagonists (and between them and their ladies), and even the classic Los Angeles hoop locations, including the “Watts Oasis” court (fire), the world-famous Venice Beach courts (cool, but open runs down there be bunk sometimes), and Angel’s Gate Park in San Pedro (trash, don’t play there unless you feel like chasing your ball into the Pacific Ocean).
Everything gets a modern update as well; Jack comments that his opposite, Sinqua Walls’, stereotyping him for being white is outdated (he was really stereotyping the ‘fit, which… understandable), the hustlers trade cash via apps (Jack even trash talks Sinqua’s choice of apps), and the famous Marques Johnson “Imma get my other gun” gets an upgrade courtesy of Elon Musk.
Also making appearances in the film are fellow rapper-turned-actor Vince Staples (my new favorite thanks to his recurring role on Abbott Elementary, although you could see the potential even in his five minutes in Dope) and the late, great Lance Reddick, as well as Teyana Taylor and Laura Harrier. There’s really something for everybody. This writer, at least, will be seated, as the kids say, on May 19, when the movie debuts on Hulu. Check out the trailer above.
Now, Teyana Taylor is joining the discourse with her own perspective. In a chat with Jeremy O. Harris for Interview Magazine she talked about the nepo baby accusations she’s received and the crucial role her hardworking mother played in her life.
Read what she shared below.
“I’ve seen all these tweets like, ‘That’s crazy. I never knew Teyana was a nepo baby,’ and I’m like, ‘Tell me who my celebrity parents are?’ Let’s be clear. My mom was literally a workaholic, she worked her ass off to make sure I had everything that I needed. So by the time we got to my sweet 16, I had just signed my first contract with Star Trak, Pharrell Williams’s label, and me, my mom and Pharrell, and the label, we came together. That was from her hard-earned money and my hard-earned money from getting my record deal. I was just this little Harlem girl and we sat down and watched Sweet 16 and I knew I wanted to set the tone. I’m from New York. I don’t want no car. I want a bike. You feel me?
So I want to commend my mom, she works very hard and she made a lot of things happen for me, and that’s why this role means so much. Even when I first got pregnant with Junie, I remember texting her, like, ‘Yo, I just appreciate you so much.’ I used to laugh when she was like, ‘Oh girl. I was in 72 hours labor,’ all those little things that they say. Then becoming a mom is like, ‘Wow.’ And then becoming Inez is triple wow. So I commend her from the bottom of my heart. And I just wanted to get that off my chest.”
