Unsurprisingly, the most commercially dominant artist of the last decade has achieved things on the chart nobody else can manage. Drake’s newest achievement is yet another sign of not just the volume of his commercial dominance, but the longevity.
Drake has officially spent a full 500 weeks on the Artist 100 chart, becoming the first artist to do so. He also achieved the feat as quickly as possible as this week’s Artist 100 is the 500th edition of the chart. Drizzy is the only artist who has appeared on every single Artist 100 throughout its entire existence. Only Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran, and Bruno Mars are within 25 weeks of Drake’s record-setting tenure. TMZ, citing “sources with direct knowledge,” reports, “Not only is Taylor not going to pick up a microphone to croon a tune … but we’re hearing there’s no chance T-Swift will go anywhere near the stage, let alone step onto it. In other words, our sources say there are zero plans to have her participate in the Super Bowl whatsoever — outside of her just being there as a fan — and Usher is going to have the spotlight all to himself in terms of live entertainment that day.”
Given that Usher has been planning his show for months, and that Swift probably wasn’t sure she’d be Super Bowl-bound until just a few days ago, it makes that she’s not involved. While Kelce playing in the Super Bowl and Swift performing at the halftime show would have been one of the biggest couple flexes ever, it looks like that’s just not going to happen this year.
Republicans have long had trouble courting the youth vote, but lately they’ve decided to torch their chances for good. Today’s rightwing have declared Taylor Swift, arguably the most popular pop star on the planet right now, Enemy Number One. They hate that she’s a Biden supporter, and they especially hate that her boyfriend, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, is Super Bowl-bound. Some have even hatched tinfoil hat conspiracy theories about her. But at least Taylor and Travis have one supporter who really matters: Daivd Letterman.
“We live in a world now where all we hear is nonsense and ugliness,” the former late night king said in a post on Instagram, per Variety. “Now here’s Taylor Swift, who is a glowing bright light of goodness in the world and she starts dating Kelsey Grammer.”
Producer Barbara Gaines quickly corrected him, though Letterman stood his ground and kept saying the name of the Trump-voting Frasier star.
Letterman then described how these two very different worlds — the world of football and the world of pop star — have felt like strange bedfellows, sometimes even attack each other, wishing Swift and Kelce weren’t an item. Well, Letterman’s had enough of all that.
“This is such a lovely thing. Shut up!” he charged. “It’s good for the footballers. It’s good for Taylor Swift. And it’s something positive and happy for the world, in a world that generally, typically just sucks gas.”
Letterman concluded, “God bless, Taylor Swift and Kelsey Grammer.”
Hear, hear. And you know what, God bless Kelsey Grammer, too, no matter who he votes for, because Frasier Crane is god, even on his so-so revival.

On Monday Fox News host Martha MacCallum brought on Outkick host Charly Arnolt, who last year got in a tizzy over Disney casting a non-white actress to play Snow White — you know, despite her name. This time Arnolt was, as many on the right weirdly are right now, up in arms over Time’s 2023 Person of the Year, especially since her boyfriend, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, is going to the Super Bowl.
Noting grimly that Swift endorsed Biden in 2020, Arnolt said she’s so worried about her boyfriend going to the Super Bowl that she was rooting for the Baltimore Ravens to beat the Chiefs, “just because we have had enough of Taylor Swift for now.”
Alas, the Ravens lost and Swift’s boyfriend is going to the Super Bowl. But all is not lost. Arnolt noted that there’s an online poll “begging people to become 9ers fans for the next two weeks, just so it doesn’t raise Travis Kelcie aka Mr. Phizer’s star power along with, of course, Taylor Swift.”
Nevermind that it’s probably not possible for Swift to become any more famous than she is already. But that’s what so freezes Arnolt’s blood.
“It is so scary! There’s a recent poll: 1/5th of Taylor Swift fans said they would back whatever candidate she endorsed,” Arnolt warned viewers. She allowed that a good chunk of her fanbase are “15-year-old girls who can’t vote anyways” and that “a lot of the others are liberal women who would support the DNC no matter what.
“But,” Arnolt prophesized, “there’s a lot of other people who need to be careful, because she doesn’t do what she says. For example, the other day, yesterday, she flew private from New York City to Baltimore. Yet she constantly talks about climate change.”
Arnolt asked anyone watching her to “please don’t believe everything Taylor Swift says. We’re all begging you.”
And so continues the right’s bizarre war on someone whose fanbase is not only gargantuan but militant against anyone who dares besmirch her, be they Golden Globes hosts or, possibly, Fox News regulars. Besides, what better way to lock down the youth vote than to the most popular celebrity under 35.
The 2024 Grammy Awards are just around the corner, and much like previous iterations of the annual ceremony, there likely won’t be a shortage of show-stopping performances. But above all, fans are hoping to see if their favorite artists’ hard work will pay off with a win, and the chance to take home their own golden gramophone trophies as they secure their spot in music history.
When it comes to the Grammys in particular, half of the fun is trying to understand the voting criteria, which remains elusive from year to year. “Unavailable” in particular became the first song by a Nigerian act to hit 100 million streams on Spotify in 2023. This achievement is merely a footnote for Davido when observing the larger picture of his success and musical contributions, achieved through his artistic and cultural integrity. A Davido win would be incredibly overdue, but Afrobeats’ oft-omitted importance places all nominated acts in a deserving light.

However, in “Scientists & Engineers,” one of rap’s most respected voices Killer Mike shines through conscientious bars, while Future’s undeniable flow showcases why he’s one of the biggest names in contemporary music. Elsewhere in this link-up for the ages, fellow ‘Dungeon Family’ member André 3000 provides what very well could be his final rap verse on wax. “Scientists & Engineers” carries attributes that continue to stand the test of time in hip-hop: authentic rhymes, rhythm, and collaboration.

A win in this category for Jones would solidify her place among one of the brightest lights in the genre today, and would bring a happy ending the former Disney darling’s Cinderella story.

“Kill Bill” spins the idea of breakup anthems on its head through thematics and sonics that slay. The funky, rockin’ self-love anthem feels like a cathartic return to form for the musical shapeshifter, whose personal life has undergone as many changes as her sonic identity.

As mentioned earlier, the Grammys love “making moments.” Taylor Swift is far and away the biggest name in contemporary music, and a win in this category will provide the moment. If honored with the biggest award of the night, Taylor could surpass Stevie Wonder, Paul Simon, and Frank Sinatra for the most Album of the Year wins by any artist in history. However, some could argue that — though thematically sound — Midnights is not a career high. Although a win would be the cherry on top of her banner year, star power and fanfare don’t always warrant an automatic win.
SOS on the other hand, is a true career high for SZA, solidifying her status as thee reigning R&B superstar. It was her first No. 1 album, it nabbed the biggest streaming figures for an R&B album in U.S. history, and it’s the longest-running No. 1 album by a woman in this decade. A much-deserved win in this category would also create a “moment”: SZA would be the first Black woman since Lauryn Hill in 1999 to win Album of the Year, and only the fourth ever after Natalie Cole, Whitney Houston, and Hill. The personal triumphs, coupled with the album’s successes, will feel like a win for all.
