n this date in 2009, T. I. was forced to boot fellow Atlanta rapper off of his Grand Hustle Records roster because it was revealed that the up and coming artist was an informant for the DEA.
The online tabloid The Smoking Gun first broke the story, when legal documents were uncovered that showed that Alfamega was an informant for the Drug Enforcement Agency during the trial of a heroin trafficker.
T.I., who himself went to jail because pf one of his bodyguards working with authorities in his publicized 2007 gun-buying asting, in which the Grand Hustle CEO had to serve a year and a day behind bars. Needless to say, T.I. was more than livid when this information was discovered about his newest artist.
“Even though all of our artists and employees are asked by us to be honest and open about their paat history, at no time did Alfa disclose to me or Grand Hustle was has now appeared on the media,” T.I. read in a statement on MisInfo.TV. “He essentially deceived us…”
No one in Hip Hop has ever heard from the rapper known as Alfamega ever again.
The music industry is one of the most cutthroat industries in the world without a doubt. There are plenty of one-hit wonders that have come and gone, as well as some who work hard, but can never seem to break through. Then, there are the handful that truly made it and reached heights that many aspire to reach. One of Southern hip-hop’s icons, T.I. is a prime example of someone who has accomplished a lot, but also transformed a genre with their influence. One rapper looking reach the level that T.I. has, Trapicana, attempted to put herself out there and audition for his Grand Hustle label.
According to AllHipHop, Trapicana was looking for T.I. to change her life with this street tryout, but it did not go according to plan. The hopeful femcee posted the interaction between them on her Instagram and in it, she really tried to convince him. She kept rapping even after T.I. interjected and you can tell that she is giving this her all. But, instead of totally blowing Trapicana off, the Atlanta mogul offered up some great advice.
T.I. started off by saying, “Let me tell you something. Stop running up to n****s think they gone change your life. Ain’t nobody gone change your life but you,” he stated. Trapicana was then met with a “Hell naw,” after she asked again if he would change her fortunes. “I’m helping you by telling you don’t look for a n**** like me to change your life. You got everything you need already. It’s in you, don’t look to me.” After a couple more futile attempts, they eventually embraced and Trapicana told him, “Appreciate it. I needed that talk.”
What are your thoughts on T.I. denying giving Trapicana a record deal after her impromptu audition? Do you think he was being too harsh, or just keeping it real and giving her great advice? Based on what you heard, would you sign her to a label, why or why not? We would like to hear what you have to say, so be sure to leave your takes in the comments section. Additionally, always keep it locked in with HNHH for all of the latest news surrounding T.I. Finally, stay with us for everything else going on in the music world.
T.I. wants to make it clear that he can be a funny guy too, and not just one of the pillars of trap music and Southern rap as a whole. Moreover, he recently appeared on BET’s revived series Comic View, and one particular clip from his stand-up set is gaining a lot of traction on social media. The Atlanta legend is well-known for his perspectives on contemporary hip-hop happenings, such as Killer Mike’s recent Grammys arrest. As such, it’s no surprise that he has some comical and light takes on trap music today, ones that a lot of folks seem to have resonated with.
“Listen, the first generation of trap music, people like me, Jeezy, Yo Gotti, you know what I’m saying?” T.I. remarked during his time onstage. “We were rapping about things we had done, got away with, and moved on. You hear me? You listen to [this] new age trap music? Oh, they are talking about s**t they finna do tomorrow, you feel what I’m saying?” The crowd erupted with laughter during these comments, and it was very interesting to see what elements of today’s hip-hop he finds funny.
Not only that, but this adds to T.I.’s recent comments on the younger generation of rap artists on Shaquille O’Neal’s Big Podcast. “This generation reminds me of every other generation,” he expressed. “You got some people who are exceptionally dope, and some people who are just alright. You know what I mean? But it’s a lot more of it to choose from now. I feel that, actually, what they’ve done with music is equivalent to if they were to open up the doors of the arena and say, ‘Anybody think you can play basketball? Come on out the stands out here to the floor. Here you go, a jersey, man. Get in the game.’”
Elsewhere, the 43-year-old discussed the possibility of getting an ownership stake in a sports team one day. “So many of my contemporaries like Nelly, you know, he got a piece of Charlotte, and Usher’s got a piece of Cleveland,” he began. “You know, people be asking me, ‘Would I ever do it?’ And I don’t think I would, you know? Because I just can’t see me taking so much of my money, investing it in something, and I can’t do what the f**k I wanna do. I just can’t imagine that. I’m gonna put my money into something where I can dictate, and I can determine, the way it’s gonna go.” For more news and updates on T.I., keep checking in with HNHH.
As one of the biggest rappers out of the South for over twenty years, T.I. knows a thing or two about how to handle awkward fan interactions. One recent clip has fans particularly praising his gracious and polite nature, despite not liking what a fan was doing. Moreover, the Atlanta trap pioneer and community advocate was recently filmed chopping it up with some fans, speaking to one in particular about an upcoming project he’s shooting and editing that he might need some help with. Then, another fan approached him and asked if he could rap for him, to which he responded with a simple “No” before accepting his request for a picture.
Not only that, but T.I. also asked the fan to lower his arm off his shoulder, remarking he doesn’t like that before smiling for the camera as if he had just laughed at a joke. It’s at least impressive to see just how fast he can change on a dime. Of course, the 43-year-old has such a storied career that fans have plenty of reasons to want to engage with him for. There’s his classic established catalog, and then his mentor-like historical perspective on the current rap landscape, commenting on a lot of current trends, events, and evolutions in hip-hop.
But it’s always fun to look back at the journey to the present, right? Bow Wow recently reflected on how T.I. helped him craft his third album, 2003’s Unleashed. “This is before the King album, this is before A.T.L., this is young Tip,” he shared. “Me and Tip wrote that third album together with my man R.O.C. Me and Tip really kicked it. We had moments, especially in the studio. Him giving me that freedom, him teaching me how to write. Cadence, bars, song structure, just everything.
“He was giving me the answers that I wanted Jermaine to give me,” Bow continued. “He was definitely a hundred in the studio. Tip was, that’s my dog. Even to this day, that’s my big bro right there.” For more news and the latest updates on T.I., keep checking in with HNHH.

If there’s one person who deserves an award from the City of Atlanta, it’s none other than T.I.
A few days ago, the 43-year-old was honored with the prestigious Phoenix Award from the City of Atlanta for his contributions to both philanthropy and entertainment, presented by Mayor Andre Dickens, former Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms, and Senator Raphael Warnock.
The beautiful moment was captured and uploaded to T.I.’s YouTube page, which boasts 4.25 million subscribers. The beauty lies in the award being presented during T.I.’s closing shows with the Atlanta Pops at Atlanta Symphony Hall. Footage of these symphony performances went viral when Tip’s daughter Heiress stole the show, performing “Live Your Life” alongside her father.
The Phoenix Award is the highest one can receive from the City of Atlanta, which makes perfect sense given Tip recently cut the ribbon on over 140 units of low-income housing in his neighborhood of Bankhead in Atlanta. He also recently hosted his 18th annual turkey drive, giving out over a thousand turkeys. He partnered with Atlanta Mission, Project Pinnacle, and Next Level Boys Academy to host three more holiday drives. This was in conjunction with his non-profits Us or Else and Harris Community Works.
On the music tip, T.I. recently celebrated the 20th anniversary of his standout album Trap Muzik, which coined an entire sub-genre of Hip-Hop.
T.I. has been honored by his hometown for his outstanding humanitarian efforts. At a recent ceremony, the Atlanta rap legend received the prestigious Phoenix Award, considered Atlanta’s highest honor, in recognition of his dedication to the city.
T.I. Honored
T.I. officially received the Phoenix Award at a ceremony held in Atlanta on Dec. 29. The award was presented to the “What You Know” rapper after his second symphony concert at Symphony Hall, where he celebrated the 20th anniversary of his debut album, Trap Muzik.
Among those present to honor T.I. were Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens, former Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms, Senator Raphael Warnock, and Phillana Williams.
T.I. Expresses Gratitude
In an official statement, T.I. expressed his gratitude for receiving the prestigious award, emphasizing the significance of the moment for his family and the city of Atlanta.
“Humbly honored for us to have received this highest honor by Mayor Andre Dickens and the City of Atlanta. This is for Trap Muzik, 20 years later. Happy to have shared this illustrious moment with my wife and the rest of my family, along with the people in da City,” T.I. said.
This is not the first time T.I.’s philanthropic efforts have been recognized. Over the years, he has been involved in numerous non-profit organizations, including Harris Community Works and For The Love of our Fathers, which focuses on helping people with Alzheimer’s disease and dementia.
T.I.’s Humanitarian Efforts
The “Rubber Band Man” rapper has also spearheaded various charitable initiatives, such as Thanksgiving turkey drives, Christmas toy drives, and hurricane relief efforts, demonstrating his commitment to making a positive impact in the lives of others.
In addition to his recent achievements, T.I. made headlines in November 2023 when he opened an affordable housing development in Atlanta. The housing development, located in West Atlanta, aims to provide shelter for homeless and troubled youth, further exemplifying T.I.’s dedication to the community.
Jermaine Dupri Honored With Phoenix Award
Notably, T.I. joins the ranks of another Atlanta rap legend, Jermaine Dupri, who was previously honored with the Phoenix Award in August 2023. Jermaine Dupri, the founder of So So Def Recordings, received the award for his significant contributions to the Atlanta community and the city’s rap scene, further solidifying the impact of Atlanta’s influential artists.
T.I. just received the city of Atlanta’s “highest honor” for his community-based, philanthropic, and humanitarian endeavors: the Phoenix Award. Moreover, he celebrated alongside Mayor Andre Dickens, former Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms, Senator Raphael Warnock, and Phillana Williams, who presented this to him onstage. This was on Friday (December 29), and followed the trap pioneer’s second show at the Atlanta Symphony Hall to commemorate Trap Muzik‘s 20-year anniversary. In addition to his extracurricular work, this award also points to his indelible musical contributions and what he represents for the city and the culture. In a statement to HipHopDX, Tip expressed gratitude for this achievement and called to his roots and main motivators in his career.
“Humbly honored for us to have received this highest honor by Mayor Andre Dickens and the City of Atlanta,” T.I. expressed. “Dis is for Trap Muzik, 20 years later. Happy to have shared this illustrious moment wit my wife and the rest of my family, along wit da people in da City.” While the Harris family is dealing with some legal trouble and sexual assault accusations at press time, it’s heartening to see they were able to bask in this occasion and enjoy it.
Furthermore, this accolade arrives just as T.I.’s kids are forming their own career paths and following in his magnanimous footsteps. For example, his daughter Heiress recently had her radio debut, which he was of course very proud of and ecstatic to shout out and praise. In fact, the father-daughter duo recently performed one of his hits, “Live Your Life,” which was a nice full-circle moment to witness amid a creative surge. Hopefully there’s more to come in that regard down the road, because it’s always very interesting for us as fans to see these peeks into their dynamics through their art and expression.
Meanwhile, that bond isn’t perfect, but neither is any family unit’s, especially one so overtaken by media coverage and social media scrutiny. All we know for sure is that the 43-year-old should be lauded for his work, a journey that’s far from over yet. We’re sure that 2024 will hold more great things and hopefully some clarifying accountability when it comes to his and Tiny’s accusations. A woman who claims that rapper T.I. and his wife Tameka “Tiny” Harris drugged and raped her in 2005 has filed a new lawsuit against the couple after at least one previous case was dismissed. In 2021, the couple was accused of sexual assault by a lawyer representing 11 people who claimed to have been victimized by the couple or their entourage; criminal investigations were urged but not pursued, as the statute of limitations had passed since the alleged incidents took place.
However, under California’s Sexual Abuse and Cover Up Accountability Act, a one-year “look-back” window to file lawsuits a one-year “look-back” window to file lawsuits in cases of alleged sexual abuse with expired statues of limitations was instituted, and although it expired this year, some cases were allowed to be filed on Tuesday (January 2) due to the holiday. According to Rolling Stone, this Jane Doe plaintiff, an Air Force veteran who says she was around 22 or 23 at the time of the alleged incident, filed the 15-page lawsuit late Tuesday.
T.I. and Tiny have vehemently denied the allegations for the past three years, with T.I. even addressing the suits on the 2021 track “What It’s Come To.” In a statement, they continued to deny the accusations, writing, “This plaintiff has been threatening to file this lawsuit for THREE years. For THREE years, we have emphatically and categorically denied these allegations. For THREE years we have maintained our innocence and refused to pay these extortionate demands for things we didn’t do. For THREE years, we’ve maintained the same position while the claims in this story have changed time and time again. Our position is clear. We are innocent of these fake claims, we will not be shaken down, and we look forward to our day in court.”
