Travis Kelce recently joked that he “can’t read” when asked about the books present on the bookshelves behind him. “Um, honestly? You guys know I can’t read,” Kelce joked while answering a fan question on the podcast he hosts with his brother. After Jason pointed out The Odyssey, Travis incorrectly named the main character (Odysseus) as Homer, the author of the Greek epic.

After naming Mark Manson’s The Art Of Not Giving A F*ck before admitting he hadn’t yet read it, Jason pressed his brother to name some books he’d actually read. “Jason, I haven’t read one in so long. Dude, I don’t remember any of these books. I feel like I read a book called The Energy Bus. It was a short book, it was a real thin [one], and Butch Jones, our college coach, was the one who recommended it to me.”

Meanwhile, reports suggest that Taylor Swift will not be present at Kelce’s next game, a visit to Mile High Stadium in Denver. Instead, Swift will be preparing for the next shows on her Eras Tour. That might be a problem for Kelce, as Swift has become something of a good luck charm for him. During Chiefs-Chargers last weekend, CBS pointed out that Travis Kelce’s yards per game more than double when Taylor Swift is in attendance. It’s an amusing stat, if a little inaccurate. Yes, Kelce is averaging 108 yards per Swift-attended game compared to 46.5 yards in the games the singer didn’t attend. However, it’s a data set of four games against a data set of two games. Furthermore, a majority of his Swift-attended stats can be attributed to his two most recent games – monster performances against the Broncos (124 yards) and Chargers (174 yards). However, it is just a fun little factoid.

Regardless, both Kelce and head coach Andy Reid appeared pretty tickled by the notion. “Hard for me to wrap my head around that sentence,” Kelce noted about the graphic. “Kelce keeps getting better with time — Taylor can stay around all she wants,” Reid joked at his post-game press conference. Dwight Howard Shares Statement On Sexual Assault Allegations

Over the summer, Dwight Howard was sued for alleged battery and sexual assault of a male model named Stephen Harper. Harper claims that he traveled to Howard’s house to participate in a threesome. According to him, there was a man dressed like a woman named Kitty there when he arrived, who he didn’t know would be involved. He also alleges that upon deciding that he no longer wanted to participate, Howard performed oral sex on him without consent, and forced him to reciprocate.

Howard confirmed that he and Kitty did meet with Harper to have sex, however, he insists everything that happened was consensual. Another one of Howard’s alleged former sexual partners has come forward since, corroborating Harper’s claims. According to influencer and author Masin Elije, Howard has a history of sexual misconduct. “He goes to sex parties and preys on younger men, which is why he originally why he threatened, forced, and tried to intimidate me into signing a NDA,” Elije alleged. Elije also claims that Kitty harassed them in 2018.

Now, Howard’s legal team has shared a statement about the lawsuit, denying the allegations. They claim that the suit was only filed in attempts to receive a payout. “This is a civil case that was made public for profit,” the statement begins in part. “In this case, the accuser is solely suing Dwight Howard and has refrained from suing the other party in which he claims to be involved. It is important to know that these matters were NEVER about sexual assault. This was merely about money and greed.”

Meanwhile, Diddy recently claimed that LeBron was the best singer in the NBA. “Nah, my brother @KingJames got the best voice in the NBA! LOVE LOVE!! LOVE,” the music icon wrote on social media after LeBron posted a video of himself singing “Pick Up”. However, it’s a pretty bold claim considering that the NBA also includes actual bona fide rapper Damian Lillard, aka Dame D.O.L.L.A.

However, slick dance moves weren’t the only thing that LeBron contributed to the night. LeBron blew past his 30-minute playing time guideline as he put on a masterclass to save the Lakers from a 0-2 start to the season. James played the entire fourth quarter against the Suns, when his minutes limit suggested he should only play about half the frame. In that time, LeBron scored 10 points, helping eliminate a 12-point Suns lead and pushing the Lakers to a 100-95 victory.

“He [had coach Darvin Ham] asked me if I could go the quarter, and I looked at the time and the score and what was going on in the game, and it was an easy answer for myself. I know how much work I’ve put in to be able to play quarters or whatever the case may be. And I understand that we definitely have a system put in place, but tonight called for me to go outside the box.”” LeBron said after the game. The veteran star, now two games into his 21st season, finished with 21 points, 8 rebounds, and 9 assists. Anthony Davis, who was roasted for his performance against Denver in the season opener, had a 30-point double-double against Phoenix.

Tyson Fury Compares Himself To Novak Djokovic At Francis Ngannou Weigh-In

Tyson Fury was full of confidence as he weighed in against Francis Ngannou ahead of their boxing match in Saudi Arabia. “It’s like a table tennis champion facing Djokovic in the Wimbledon final — totally different,” Fury said dismissively of the MMA star, who is making his boxing debut. Both fighters made weight, with Fury coming up a little over 5 lbs more than Ngannou. There was a flicker of confrontation as Ngannou bumped chests with Fury after the British boxer put his forehead against the Cameroonian’s.

However, Ngannou was unfazed by Fury’s behavior. “I have played this game so long. This can’t get to me. It’s part of the game. We’re going to take a couple of minutes at the beginning, but I think this fight will end very quick,” the PFL star claimed. Both men are set to make bank from the fight, with Fury’s purse reportedly hitting $50 million.

Fury Eyes Usyk

However, the fight is little more than a warm-up for the main event in the eyes of Fury. Last month, sources told ESPN that Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk had signed fight contracts for this winter. The fight, scheduled to take place in Saudi Arabia, will be the first undisputed heavyweight fight in boxing’s four-belt era. While a date has not been confirmed, the fight will take place on December 23 or in early January. The details will be further set after Fury fights Ngannou. At the Ngannou weigh-in, Fury said he would take a week to recover before discussing the Usyk fight. Fury currently holds the WBC belt while Usyk holds the WBA, IBF, and WBO belts.

The fight is a renewal of a proposal from earlier this year. Fury and Usyk were originally scheduled for April of this year, with a fight slated for London’s Wembley Stadium. However, the fight fell through at the last moment. Instead, Uysk fulfilled his mandatory WBA defense against Daniel Dubois in an August fight in Poland. Meanwhile, Fury has not fought since beating Derek Chisora last December.

TCU Used “Dummy Signals” To Thwart Michigan Sign-Stealing During CFP

TCU reportedly used “dummy signals” to counter sign-stealing by Michigan during their College Football Playoff matchup earlier this year. According to sources who spoke with Yahoo!, TCU received calls in the run-up to their Fiesta Bowl game against Michigan, informing them that Michigan had likely stolen their play-calling signs. “Sometimes we froze a play before the snap. We’d call a play and then we’d signal in another play with an old signal but we told players to run the original play,” one TCU coach told the outlet about how they countered the potential leak.

The news came out amid the unfolding situation at Michigan. The university suspended eight-year employee Connor Stalions due to an NCAA investigation into sign-stealing. Stalions had reportedly bought tickets to over 40 NCAA games over the last three years and attended the games to illegally record the play-calling signs of upcoming and potential Michigan opponents. While the NCAA does not specifically prohibit sign-stealing, both in-person scouting of future opponents and the electronic recording of play-calling signs are both banned.

More Trouble For Michigan

The sign-stealing scandal is just one of three investigations currently occurring at Michigan. Coach Jim Harbaugh is still under investigation for recruiting violations that occurred during the COVID-19 dead period in 2020. Harbaugh served a three-game suspension to begin the season and rulings on further infractions are expected next year. However, it remains to be seen just how extensive knowledge of the sign-stealing scheme was.

Meanwhile, the FBI was reportedly at the school’s Ann Arbor campus earlier this week as part of a third investigation. Very little information into the firing of assistant coach Matt Weiss has been released since it happened earlier this year. However, Weiss was fired over “unauthorized computer access crimes” that occurred at Michigan’s athletics facilities. However, UoM Deputy Police Chief Melissa Overton told ESPN the investigation, which now involves the FBI, is “extensive, ongoing and is of the utmost priority. Furthermore, Overton noted that it covered multiple states.

USWNT Head Coach Search Down To Three Names

The search for the next head coach of the US Women’s National Soccer Team is down to three names. The latest update is according to sources who spoke with The Athletic. While other names may remain on the shortlist, Tony Gustavsson, Joe Montemurro, and Laura Harvey are believed to be the top three names for the selection committee. The position has been vacant since Vlatko Andonovski resigned following a dismal outing at the Women’s World Cup earlier this year.

Gustavsson is currently the head coach of the Australian Women’s National Team. Furthermore, he spent a combined six years as a USWNT assistant coach under Jill Ellis. Joe Montemurro currently coaches Juventus’ women’s team in Italy. He has no international coaching experience. However, he carries a lot of weight as a former coach of Arsenal’s women’s team in England. Finally, there is Laura Harvey, the current coach of OL Reign in the NWSL. Harvey has a wealth of international experience, having run England’s youth set-up, the US U20 women’s team, and worked as an assistant coach for the senior women’s team as well.

Who Is The Favorite For The USWNT Job?

According to The Athletic‘s sources, Gustavsson is the selection committee’s preferred choice. However, Gustavsson has expressed a reluctance to leave Australia, with whom he is contracted through the 2024 Olympics. The second choice would be Montemurro. However, he has no international experience, as mentioned. This could be a turn-off for the committee. The USWNT just endured one of the worst periods in its history with a coach who took the job with no international experience.

Finally, there is Harvey. She might be the third-choice candidate right now, but she may also be the best person for the job. The committee may be wary of hiring from the NWSL again after Andonovski. However, Harvey has a wealth of international experience that Andonovski didn’t have. Furthermore, Harvey has some of the best experience with the current USWNT talent pool, as well as the domestic US pool. However, the committee is giving themselves plenty of time to decide. During the Clippers’ season opener, Leonard was spotted employing the “step-through” on several occasions. The move involves using the pivot foot to step around the defender during a basket drive. It was popularized and perfected by athletes in the WNBA and Leonard was sure to mention that when asked. “A lot of WNBA players do it. I thought it was just a WNBA rule at first, but I realized that you could pick up that back foot,” Leonard said at the Clippers’ post-game presser.

The move has become a signature for the likes of DeWanna Bonner of the Connecticut Sun and A’ja Wilson of the Las Vegas Aces. Leonard went 23-5-6 in the Clippers 123-111 win over the Blazers. The Clippers next play the Jazz later today.

Aces Win WNBA Title, First Repeat In 21 Years

The aforementioned Wilson made extensive use of the step-through during the recent WNBA Finals. The Aces secured their second WNBA title in as many seasons with a 70-69 Game 4 victory. After a double-digit loss in Game 3, the Aces bounced back to take a one-point win in front of a hostile and sold-out New York home crowd. A’ja Wilson had a game-high 24 points as injuries to key starters limited the Aces’ dominance but did not relegate them to silver scrapes. With the win, the Aces became the first team since the 2002 Los Angeles Sparks to win back-to-back titles. They were also the first defending champions to even make the Finals since the Sparks in 2017.

“This one’s sweeter. It just is. It’s harder to do,” head coach Becky Hammon said after the game. “This is what it’s all about, to have your name etched in history right now with other teams. We never gave up, and this is a moment that we need to celebrate. This is a moment that not a lot of people get a chance to do it, and for us to do it shorthanded, it is truly amazing. It just makes winning that much better,” Wilson, who was named Finals MVP, added.

The pair have been dating since 2022, first being spotted together publicly at Milan Fashion Week. While it is their first child together, it will be Newton’s eighth child overall. However, it’s not all happy news in the world of Cam Newton. Earlier this month, Newton sued his ex-girlfriend Kia Proctor over possession of a 2017 Bentley. According to legal documents seen by RadarOnline, Newton alleges that Proctor was given the car on the understanding that she would return it in the event that they broke up. The couple, who have four children together, broke up in 2019 after Newton fathered a child with another woman while Proctor was pregnant.

Online, a majority of people seemed to back Proctor over Newton. “Broke up in 2019 but came to collect the car in 2023 chiiile, EVERYTHING a man gifts you should be in YOUR name,” one person commented. “After I push out 4 kids, and you got a side baby, that’s my Bentley chief,” added another. “He wrong. He cheated on her and got the other woman pregnant. she had all them kids for him. The least he could do is let her have 2017 car he really don’t care about,” noted a third. Newton has not publicly commented on the lawsuit, nor has Proctor.

Dalvin Cook To Discuss Trade With Jets

Dalvin Cook, frustrated with his lack of playing time, has stated he will be speak with the Jets front office about the possibility of a trade. “It’s something I can’t control, that my name is being floated around in trade rumors. It might be a good thing. Maybe [it’s] a bad thing,” Cook told reporters. Furthermore, while Cook did not state that he necessarily wanted to be traded, he did clarify that he was willing to do what was “best for everybody”.

Cook, who was released by the Vikings during the offseason, signed with the Jets after a lack of a competitive market emerged for his services. At the time of his signing, Cook said he and RB1 Breece Hall would be the best backfield duo in the league. While Hall has a league-high yards per carry, Cook is dead last. Through six games, Cook has 39 carries and just 109 yards. While never a big YPC player, Cook entered 2023 on the back of four consecutive 1000-yard seasons.

Cook Contract Likely To Deter Suitors

It’s clear that Cook wants to be in an environment where he is getting more touches per game. However, there aren’t a lot of opportunities like that in the league right now. Furthermore, having Cook active for games while on the 53-man roster will cost a team $3.3 million for the rest of the season. It’s simply not an appealing prospect for most of the league.

However, that leaves Cook in limbo and deeply frustrated about it. “Of course it’s frustrating. I’m an honest person, man. I work. I want to play. That’s just anyway. And, yeah, it’s frustrating. It’s new for me. I come from getting the ball 20 times a game, or however many times. Of course it’s frustrating. It’s something that I’ve been adapting to,” Cook said. “I thought teaming up with Breece would be the best thing in the world for the New York Jets. We all thought it was going to be more than what it is. But I wasn’t thinking of a percentage of him getting the ball or me getting the ball. I wasn’t thinking like that. I just thought … the touches will get spread around.”

Perkz Leaves Team Vitality After Two Years

Luka “Perkz” Perković has left Team Vitality after two years as their starting mid laner. “After two years as our midlaner it’s time to say goodbye to @Perkz. Through a journey with ups and downs we will always appreciate your hard work and dedication to our club while you were here. We wish you all the best in your next adventure ,” the France-based LEC team wrote on social media. The news that Perkz could become a free agent was first reported as rumor earlier this week by esports outlet blix.gg.

Perkz joined Team Vitality ahead of the 2022 season following a year of mixed successes in North America. It was reported that Perkz had joined Vitality as they were willing to build a team around the star mid laner. However, 2022 was a season of missed opportunities. Vitality finished 5th in the Spring split before blowing a 96% chance to qualify for the Summer playoffs. Things only got worse in 2023. The team had 5th and 3rd place finishes in the first two splits of the year. However, Vitality blew their playoff chances once again with a last-place finish in the third and final split of the year.

Uncertain Future For Perkz, Team Vitality

Once one of Europe’s best places, Perkz’s glory days are well behind him at this point. Ever since he left G2 in 2020, his performances have declined dramatically. Furthermore, it’s all but an open secret around the esports community that the Croatian mid laner is incredibly difficult to work with. However, on the other hand, his free agency is something of a surprise around the league. He has not been linked with any particular team as of yet. However, it’s unlikely that he will start the 2024 season teamless.

Meanwhile, Vitality will need to figure out a path forward after two consecutive years of failed superteams. While Perkz is the first player to officially leave, he might not be the last. It’s also rumored that they will replace failed jungler prospect Bo with their academy jungler Daglas. It remains to be seen if any of their other starters – Photon, Upset, and Kaiser – will also be departing this offseason.
