Seattle Seahawks GM John Schneider has said that team ownership has just one directive for his first-ever head coaching search – keep the team’s “positive culture”. “It’s clear. It’s concise. We want to keep our positive culture, everything that’s been created here. There’s so many special people in this building. It’s amazing to be on the phone with all these agents and the people that are interested in this position and to be able to explain to them, ‘Hey, there’s a foundation here that’s incredible,’” Schneider said in his first comments since Pete Carroll was relieved of heading coaching duties after 14 years. Carrol was transitioned to an “advisor” role last week.

Furthermore, Schneider confirmed a change alluded to by Carroll in is final press conference. Schneider, as GM, will have the final say on personnel hires. Previously, Carroll was responsible for his own staff and reported directly to team owner Jody Allen. “Our setup earlier was … the coaching staff did not fall under my umbrella, and now it will. It’s not necessarily a Jody Allen decision or choosing this person or that person; it’s just a contractual situation,” Schneider noted.

The Seahawks aren’t going to interview Belichick, Harbaugh, or anyone perceived as a hard ass. John Schneider said at the top of the press conference that Jody Allen made a clear directive to maintain the positive culture.

While other names may remain on the shortlist, Tony Gustavsson, Joe Montemurro, and Laura Harvey are believed to be the top three names for the selection committee. The position has been vacant since Vlatko Andonovski resigned following a dismal outing at the Women’s World Cup earlier this year.

Gustavsson is currently the head coach of the Australian Women’s National Team. Furthermore, he spent a combined six years as a USWNT assistant coach under Jill Ellis. Joe Montemurro currently coaches Juventus’ women’s team in Italy. He has no international coaching experience. However, he carries a lot of weight as a former coach of Arsenal’s women’s team in England. Finally, there is Laura Harvey, the current coach of OL Reign in the NWSL. Harvey has a wealth of international experience, having run England’s youth set-up, the US U20 women’s team, and worked as an assistant coach for the senior women’s team as well.

However, Gustavsson has expressed a reluctance to leave Australia, with whom he is contracted through the 2024 Olympics. The second choice would be Montemurro. In late May, ESPN reported that the Suns had narrowed their search down to Nick Nurse, Doc Rivers, Kevin Young, and Jordi Fernández. However, Nurse was then hired by the Sixers. Now, ESPN is reporting that the Suns have found their next head coach.

Vogel, 49, most recently coached the Los Angeles Lakers, winning an NBA title with the team in 2020. However, he was fired following the 2021-22 season after the Lakers missed the playoffs following a 33-49 regular season. Vogel did not coach for any teams during the 2022-23 season. Meanwhile, the Lakers reached the Western Conference Finals.

Vogel first joined the NBA as a coach in 2001 as an assistant for the Celtics. A decade later, in 2011, he got his first head coaching gig with the Pacers. Vogel had been with Indiana since 2007. In 2016, Vogel moved to the Magic before heading to the Lakers in 2018. A defensively-minded coach, Vogel has coached the league’s best defense three times in his career. According to ESPN‘s Adrian Wojnarowski, the Milwaukee Bucks’ next head coach will be Adrian Griffin. Griffin went undrafted out of Seton Hall in 1996 but found his way to the NBA in 1999 after three years split across the USBL and CBA. The small forward and shooting guard spent just under a decade in the NBA with the Celtics, Mavericks, Rockets, Bulls, and Supersonics.

After retiring in 2008, Griffin joined the coaching staff of the Bucks before moving to the Bulls in 2010. He spent five years in Chicago before spending a season in Orlando and two in OKC. However, he has been with Toronto since 2018, helping Nick Nurse win an NBA title in 2019. Milwaukee will be his first official head coaching position. His career dates back to 1989 and includes a decade at the NBA level. Nurse originally joined the Raptors as an assistant in 2013 before being promoted to head coach in 2018.
