Jerod Mayo Speaks on Being First Black Coach in Patriots History: ‘I Do See Color – If You Don’t See Color You Can’t See Racism’

Jerod Mayo Named Head Coach of New England Patriots, First Black Coach in Franchise History

Jerod Mayo, the new coach of the New England Patriots, is not dismissing racism exists. In his introductory press conference, Mayo stated that his ascension as the first Black coach in team history is important.

“I do see color,” Mayo said. “If you don’t see color, you can’t see racism.”

Just one day after Bill Belichick moved on from the head coaching position of the New England Patriots, the franchise has named their new coach, Jerod Mayo.

The 37-year-old will be the youngest coach in the NFL and the 15th head coach in the franchise’s history.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Mayo joined Belichick’s coaching staff in 2019 as the linebackers coach. He was selected as part of a succession plan built into his contract extension last summer. Mayo becomes the first Black coach in New England history.

MAyo’s playing career was in New England, totaling 905 tackles across 103 games and won the Associated Press Defensive Rookie of the Year Award. Mayo was part of the 2014 Patriots Super Bowl team.

“I feel like I’m prepared. I feel like I’m ready,” Mayo said in early January to ESPN. “I feel like I can talk to men, women, old, young, white, Black — it doesn’t matter. And hopefully develop those people into upstanding citizens and help them evolve. That’s how I think about it. I feel like my calling is to develop.”

SOURCE SPORTS: Football World Speculates if Bill Belichick Run is Over in New England

dm

Is it the end of an era? New England Patriots coach, leader, and icon Bill Belichick’s season is over after a disappointing 17-3 loss to the New York Jets, capping off a bad 4-13 season.

As Belichick strolled off the field, many wondered if it would be the last time he coached a team at Foxborough, which he addressed in the postgame.

“As far as the future goes, I’ll sit down with Robert, as I do every year at some point, at the end of the season and we’ll talk about things as we always do,” Belichick said. “But that’s really all I have to say about that right now because there isn’t anything else to talk about.”

He added, “It was a disappointing year for all of us — players, coaches, staff, the entire organization. Not anything that any of us are in any way content with, but it is what it is.”

Tom Brady Jersey Retired at Patriots Home Opener

Tom Brady returned to Gilette Stadium for the New England Patriots opening game. During the game, Brady’s No. 12 jersey was retired, and he thanked the fans who cheered for him through two decades of his career.

Brady wore the Patriots blue jersey he made iconic. “I’m not quite in game shape, but it’s impossible for me to be in a stadium full of you amazing fans with some of the best teammates, with my family, with all my friends and not run out like I did for 20 years,” Brady said.

“When Tom Brady announced his retirement after 23 NFL seasons, there was only one place I wanted him to be on opening day – right here at Gillette Stadium, with 65,000 of his closest friends,” said Kraft .. “Patriots fans didn’t get an opportunity to appropriately thank Tom when he left. I wanted to give them that opportunity. Unfortunately, a halftime ceremony just doesn’t provide enough time to honor Tommy the way he deserves.”

Social Media Loves Bill Belichick’s Replacement In “Madden 24”

Bill Belichick famously does not appear in the Madden franchise. This is because EA’s licensing agreement for the likeness of coaches is with the National Football League Coaches Association. Belichick is not a member of the NFLCA and has not independently given his permission to EA to use his likeness. However, someone needs to coach the Patriots, especially if you the player aren’t going to. This has led the developer to create an annual stand-in for the veteran head coach. Previous versions have included Chad Masters, Griffin Murphy, and Josh Moore. Oftentimes, the in-game portrait of fake Belichick was modeled on EA VP Roy Harvey.

However, Madden 24, which will hit general release on August 18, features a new fake Belichick. Peter Gaffney is a balding man with a rough beard and glasses. He looks like the obsessive toy collector who lowkey kidnaps Woody in Toy Story 2. Meanwhile, SB Nation‘s list of 42 things that Gaffney looks like includes “He looks like he has a Twitter, but doesn’t have his name on it, and he comments under women’s sports posts with “not a real sport” and “Pete Gaffney owns a two-handed longsword and has been arrested for using it at his nephew’s 6th birthday party. The children were terrified.”

Social Media Rejoices At The Arrival Of Fake Belichick

What’s truly amazing about Fake Belichick is that EA has seemingly resolved to never make him look even vaguely like the real Bill Belichick. There is no Bill Belichick in the Madden universe, only Peter Gaffney. And of course, social media was absolutely here to welcome Peter Gaffney to the much-vaunted position of NFL head coach.

Of course, perhaps Gaffney is the spark the Patriots need this year. New England was 20th in passing yards, and 16th in total touchdowns last season. The Patriots have attempted to remedy this offensive malaise with the signings of JuJu Smith-Schuster and Mike Gesicki. While they didn’t address offensive skill positions until the sixth round of the draft, it will be intriguing to see what Gaffney can do with this new look team as Mac Jones likely fights to keep his starting spot.

The New England Patriots Show Out For Taylor Swift

It’s not been a great year for Boston sports. After entering the history books for a record-breaking regular season, the Boston Bruins choked in the first round of the NHL playoffs. Elsewhere, the Boston Celtics are facing a 3-0 deficit in the NBA playoffs. Furthermore, the New England Patriots are still trying to find their post-Tom Brady identity. They went 8-9 in 2022, finishing third in the AFC East. While they added some new pieces in free agency and the draft, it’s unclear where their future is headed.

However, that’s not stopped the team from having some offseason fun. Taylor Swift is currently on her 52-stop Eras Tour. Starting back in March in Glendale, Swift has been crisscrossing the United States. May 19 brought her to Gillette Stadium, home of the Patriots, for three concerts. And the Patriots were eager to show Swift felt some hometown love.

Mac Jones And Others Show Out For Swift

Leading the way amongst the Patriot Swifties was quarterback Mac Jones. The three-year starter headed to one of Swift’s tour stops alongside girlfriend Sophie Scott. “This night was SPARKLING ✨ I’ll never let it go 🥹💖🪩🫶 @taylorswift,” Scott wrote on Instagram alongside pictures of her and Jones. Jones also posted a clip from the concert to TikTok with a caption saying that he was “Entering Swift Nation”. However, he was not the only Patriot to show out for the singer.

The Patriots posted a video on their official social media in which a number of Patriots players revealed their favorite T-Swift song. While a number of players said “End Game ft. Future”, Jones’ favorite was “The Last Great American Dynasty”, with “Karma” being a close second. However, not every player appeared to be as much of a fan as Jones. Some of his teammates only knew one or two songs from the artist. Meanwhile, Swift’s tour continues, heading to MetLife Stadium for three shows starting May 26. Maybe we’ll get to hear Aaron Rodgers’ favorite Swift song. The tour concludes on August 9 at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood.

Patriots’ 2023 Season Opener To Honor Tom Brady

Tom Brady is literally the greatest player to ever don a New England Patriots jersey. Selected in the 6th round of the 2000 NFL Draft, he went on to dominate pro football. Much of that dominance happened in New England, where he won six Super Bowl titles. It is also the place where he set many league and franchise records. However, Brady finished his career in Tampa Bay, finally retiring in 2023.

Despite leaving the Patriots, he is still held in high regard by the organization and many fans. However, there are those who may never forgive Brady for leaving. Furthermore, the organization is ready to honor the man who played 20 success-filled seasons for the team when the 2023 season gets underway. It comes on the same day that the NFL will announce the schedules for 2023.

Patriots owner Robert Kraft announced ahead of the NFL schedule reveal that the first Patriots home game of the 2023 season will honor Tom Brady. “I invited him back to be with us at the opening game and let the fans in New England thank him … it will be the beginning of many celebrations to honor Tom Brady,” Kraft said. Kraft has owned the Patriots since 1994, and saw the brand’s success explode exponentially with Brady at the helm. Kraft, nor the team, will likely never find a player as franchise-defining as Brady again.

“He’s very excited to come back and see our fans. It will be a great, great celebration,” Kraft said of Brady. However, a few things remain unknown. First, it’s unclear when this will take place. The full NFL schedule will be announced at 8pm EDT on May 11. The only thing that has so far been revealed about the Patriots’ schedule is that they will play a November 12 game in Frankfurt against the Colts. Furthermore, it’s unknown what “honoring” Brady will entail. It could mean the Patriots retire his jersey. The Patriots have retired seven jersey numbers, the last one being that of Bruce Armstrong in 2000. What would you like to see the Patriots to do honor Brady? Let us know in the comments below.

Bill Belichick Made A Draft Day Trade For A Hilarious Reason

The 2023 NFL Draft set a record for the most number of trades in a single draft. However, among the flurry of first-round trades, the Patriots made a small but unusual swap. Initially drafting at #14, New England dropped back three places in a trade with the Steelers. The Steelers also sent a 2023 fourth-round pick to New England.

The Steelers took Georgia offensive tackle Broderick Jones with the 14th pick. The Patriots nabbed Oregon corner Christian Gonzalez with the 17th and Maryland kicker Chad Ryland in the fourth round. However, people thought that the Steelers got off lightly in terms of draft compensation to move up in the first. Turns out they did, simply because Bill Belichick hates the New York Jets.

Belichick Gave Steelers An Easy Trade To “Fuck The Jets”

The New York Jets went into the 2023 NFL Draft needing help protecting Aaron Rodgers. However, sitting at #15 with little draft capital, they could only watch as the top o-line prospects were drafted. However, as the clock on the Patriots’ #14 pick began, there were a handful of high-quality o-line prospects still on the board. The Pats could have taken an o-lineman here but Bill Belichick loves a cornerback. And then the Pats traded back three spots and the Steelers took an o-lineman. Turns out, Belichick literally did it to fuck over the Jets.

“They should have had to give up a [third-round pick] and not a four to move up there,” one NFL general manager said anonymously to The Washington Post. “Belichick did it just to fuck the Jets. He sold low because he knew the Steelers were going to take the kid the Jets wanted to take.” Belichick has a lot of history with the Jets, both within their organization and facing them as a division rival. Moreover, Belichick could have taken Jones himself, but to him, it was even funnier to watch the Jets lose out of their prospect of choice to someone else entirely. Mac Jones Hit With Surprising Predicament

The New England Patriots have been the greatest NFL franchise of the last 25 years. The organization has six Super Bowl victories in that span. Which is the most any single team has in the league. During this run, the Patriots have been led by one man. That man is head coach Bill Belichick. Belichick is known for his no-nonsense approach to the game. The “Patriot Way” is often how Belichick’s style of coaching is described by his current and former players.

One thing that has made the Patriots so successful during this period has been Belichick’s decision-making. Belichick isn’t afraid of making tough decisions. For instance, benching a Pro Bowl QB like Drew Bledsoe for an unproven backup in Tom Brady was a good call. Now it seems like Belichick could be looking for a change at QB again. According to Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk, the Patriots have been listening to offers on starting QB Mac Jones.

Is Mac Jones Being Replaced?

Jones hasn’t been the player New England had hoped for when they drafted him in the first round back in 2021. However, the former Alabama QB has been a part of a tough rebuild with the Patriots. After Brady’s departure in 2020, the New England Patriots have yet to find their footing. The team hasn’t been to the playoffs since Brady took his talents to Tampa Bay. A franchise that is used to playing in deep January is now reconsidering just how to get there.

Jones may not be the answer in New England. However, the team doesn’t believe that former league MVP Lamar Jackson is either. The Patriots reportedly dropped out of the Jackson sweepstakes last week. But with today’s news, one has to wonder if the Patriots may soon re-enter discussions for the Baltimore QB. What do you believe the Patriots will do at QB? Does Mac Jones start the season in New England? If not Mac, then who will line up under center for Belichick? Let us hear your predictions in the comment section below. For the latest on the Patriots QB decisions, keep it here at HNHH.
