Luke Combs Got So Upset About The Brian Burns Trade That He Tweeted ‘WHAT ARE WE DOING?!?!?’ At The Panthers

The Carolina Panthers are no strangers to trading their best player, and on Monday, they went back to that well. After turning down opportunities to move him in the past, Carolina sent standout pass rusher Brian Burns to the New York Giants for a 2024 second-round pick and a 2025 fifth-round pick, along with a swap of fifth-round selections in 2024. Burns then cashed in, getting a $150 million deal from New York with $87.75 million guaranteed.

The Panthers were the worst team in the NFL last year, so seeing a player of Burns’ quality leave for a relatively meager return is a tough pill to swallow. And one of the most prominent Carolina football fans out there, country star Luke Combs, got so upset about the whole thing that he actually tweeted his frustration at the team, calling their process “slow torture.”

Getting as early of a pick as possible in the 2024 NFL Draft was certainly important for the Panthers in this deal, as the team doesn’t have its first-round pick this year — they gave that up last year to acquire the No. 1 pick and select Bryce Young. If there is a silver lining, it’s that the pick the team got back for Burns is 39th overall, which should put Carolina in prime position to grab a highly-regarded player in the second round. Whether that player is part of a rebuild that makes Combs a little more optimistic about the team going forward remains to be seen.

Carolina Panthers Name Bryce Young QB1 For 2023

2023 first-overall pick Bryce Young has been officially named as the starting quarterback of the Carolina Panthers. The announcement came as the team’s training camp gets underway. “Yes, he’s QB1,” Head Coach Frank Reich told reporters. “When we decided to pick Bryce we imagined and saw the vision that we’d be standing here today saying he’s QB1.” The Panthers traded up from the ninth spot in the draft to take Young. The team traded their 2023 and 2024 first-round picks and wide receiver D.J. Moore to the Chicago Bears.

Additionally, Young said it was a “huge blessing” to be in the position that he is. “I respect the coaches and I want to do whatever I can to play whatever role it is I’m called on to help the team,” he said. “So that means a lot [being called the starter]. For me, it’s making sure I take things day by day. I want to keep improving, keep growing.” Young played three seasons at Alabama and young the Heisman Trophy as a sophomore in 2021.

Young is just the third first-round quarterback drafted by the Panthers. He follows Kerry Collins in 1995 and Cam Newton in 2011. With Young under center, the team is hoping to begin a new chapter for the franchise, which has been suffering for many years. The team has failed to post a winning record since 2017. Furthermore, 2017 was also the last time they reached the playoffs. However, the franchise spent big in the offseason. They had two potent offensive weapons for Young in WR Adam Thielen and RB Miles Sanders.

The Panthers are a team ready to be competitive once again. They have their quarterback of the future, a well-regarded head coach, and were not afraid to spend on their roster. However, it remains to be seen how they will come together on the field. Furthermore, the Panthers will still need to overcome the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who have won the NFC South for the last two years. Despite this, they appear to have faith that Young is the player to get achieve that.

Shannon Sharpe Reacts To Carolina Panthers First Pick

Shannon Sharpe knows what a successful NFL player might look like. Sharpe was a part of multiple Super Bowl-winning teams. As well as being one of the greatest tight ends to ever play the game. Now, the NFL legend is most notably known for delivering hot takes with Skip Bayless on Undisputed. However, that doesn’t mean that Sharpe’s football knowledge should be slighted. On Friday’s edition of the show, the hosts discussed their feelings on the selections of round one.

Sharpe believes the Carolina Panthers have hit a home run with their selection of Bryce Young. The Alabama star was the consensus first pick for the last couple of weeks. After last night, it finally became official. Sharpe, like the Panthers, believes that Young has all the skills to have a successful career. “If you watch this kid play he has it all: touch, velocity, ability to beat you inside & outside the pocket. The ceiling is the Super Bowl.” Sharpe had high praise for the former Heisman winner.

Shannon Sharpe Believes Super Bowl Is Ceiling For Young

Young’s selection wasn’t much of a secret as the draft slowly moved forward. However, the rest of the quarterbacks in the draft were uncertain about their future. But C.J. Stroud and Anthony Richardson didn’t have to wait long to hear their names called. Stroud was selected second overall by the Houston Texans. As Richardson found his home with the Indianapolis Colts fourth pick. However, not every quarterback got the good news of where they would play next season.

Kentucky quarterback Will Levis did not get selected in the first round on Thursday. Which doesn’t come as a surprise for many around the league. Including Sharpe, who earlier this week didn’t see the rising hype in Levis. Now Levis will have to wait to hear his name in the second round. As for Young, he will be arriving in Carolina this weekend to begin his work at turning around the franchise. Do you agree with Shannon Sharpe on the talents of Young? Carolina Panthers To Take Bryce Young Number One Overall

The Carolina Panthers look to be set on who they will select first overall. According to reports, the Panthers will be selecting Bryce Young with the first pick. Based on reports from NFL insider Albert Breer, the selection is a no-brainer. ” The Panthers will make Bryce Young the first pick in the NFL Draft in about two hours. And as for what stood out with him—his football intelligence and ability to process really separated Young from the pack.”

Many around the league believe that Young has always been the number-one option at quarterback. However, as the draft drew closer, insiders began looking at other selections for the first pick. This year’s draft class is full of big names at the quarterback position. However, not all the big names are earning the big scouting grades. But fans know that the scouting grades don’t always tell the story in the big picture. Just ask the New England Patriots how that late pick on Tom Brady worked out.

Carolina Panthers Set With Future QB

However, the NFL Draft is full of drama and rumors. Which is why the choice for the top pick was ever-changing. But it seems like the Panthers never wavered from the quarterback they wanted all along. Now the stories will move to the number two pick. The Houston Texans own the second pick. However, there is no clear-cut answer on who the Texans will select. Houston is at the start of a deep rebuild. So any position they believe needs an immediate upgrade will be filled with the pick.

However, the Texans could look to move the pick for extra assets. Rumors have already been swirling that the Cardinals could move their top pick before the draft. At this time, every NFL insider is glued to their phone, waiting on news to break. While we all wait with them, let’s discuss the order of the quarterbacks in this draft. Also, have the Carolina Panthers made the right choice with Young? Let us know your thoughts on the draft in our comment section. For the latest NFL news, keep it right here with HNHH.

Panthers QB Baker Mayfield to Sit With High Ankle Sprain

Baker Mayfield is now looking for his third NFL team. Mayfield was released by the Carolina Panthers on Monday, cutting short a complete season with the team.

“This is a tough business,” interim coach Steve Wilks said of the release. “Sitting in this seat, it was a tough decision on my part, but something I felt like was the best move for the team moving forward.”

The move comes as the Panthers attempt to win their division and make the playoffs despite having a mediocre 4-8. The team will run with Sam Darnold as the starter and PJ Walker as the backup quarterback as the team takes on the Seattle Seahawks this coming Sunday.

The decision to move on from Mayfield is detailed as a mutual decision after he learned that he would not be in the starting or backup role. Mayfield will go through the waiver wire, where he is expected to be claimed.

“He felt and we felt we wanted to give him the opportunity to seek whatever him and his agent felt was best for him,” Wilks said to ESPN. “He has been nothing but a professional for us, so I wanted to extend that courtesy.”

Mayfield was acquired from the Cleveland Browns in a trade this offseason. He played in seven games for the Panthers, winning one, and registering 1,313 yards thrown, six touchdowns, six interceptions, and the second-worst Quarter Back Ranking (QBR) all-time at 18.3.

Matt Rhule Bizarrely Compared The Panthers To Jay-Z After Their Latest Loss

The Carolina Panthers lost their fifth consecutive game on Sunday in a 32-6 loss to the Bucs that featured yet another lackluster offensive performance and, just generally, little resistance to what Tampa Bay was trying to do.

There are certainly injuries that have played a role, most notably to star running back Christian McCaffrey, but the lack of improvement as a team in Year 2 under Matt Rhule has led to plenty of chatter in Charlotte that the former Baylor coach should be on the hot seat. The Panthers don’t seem like a team ready to make another coaching change immediately, but every loss to close out this season will only increase the possible warmth he’s feeling under him.

After the loss on Sunday, Rhule tried to address those frustrations by insisting things are getting better, you just can’t see those changes tangibly in the on-field product — which, of course, is the only part that matters. Rhule did this by making a strange comparison to Jay-Z having to start his own agency (we think he means record label) to become an “overnight success” after seven years.

While I understand the general premise of trying to say that every “overnight success” is actually years of work behind the scenes that no one sees to become one of the best, this seems like a really weird analogy. The issue for Jay-Z in this story is that he was trying to get noticed and had to launch his own record label in order to get his music out, while the Panthers issue appears to be that they are simply bad at football, not that they’re actually good but no one can see them.

Unless they’re going to star their own football league in order to breakout on their own, I’m not sure Rhule has much going for him here, but it’s at least a creative effort at insisting he should be given a long leash because success is just around the corner.
