Juwan Howard Fired By Michigan After Historically Bad Season

Juwan Howard has been fired as the head coach of the Michigan Wolverines men’s basketball team. This follows one of the worst seasons in team history. After starting 6-5, the team won just two games after December 16, finishing 8-24, as well as 3-17 in conference play.

“After a comprehensive review of the program, I have decided that Juwan will not return as our men’s basketball coach. Juwan is among the greatest Wolverines to ever be associated with our basketball program. I know how much it meant, to not only Juwan, but to all of us for him to return here to lead this program. Despite his love of his alma mater and the positive experience that our student-athletes had under his leadership, it was clear to me that the program was not living up to our expectations and not trending in the right direction. I am thankful for Juwan’s dedication, passion and commitment to U-M. For all that he, and his legacy, will continue to mean to Michigan,” athletic director Warde Manuel said in a statement.

A group of current and former college athletes, led by former Kentucky swimmer Riley Gaines, has sued the NCAA over its policy allowing transgender athletes to compete. The lawsuit primarily focuses on the inclusion of transgender swimmer Lia Thomas (Penn) at the 2022 NCAA National Championships. Gaines, who has become a right-wing anti-trans advocate since graduating, finished joint fifth with Thomas in the 200-yard final. However, Gaines claimed she was excluded from celebrating because Thomas was handed the fifth-place trophy and not her. Another plaintiff is Tylor Mathieu (Florida). Mathieu finished 9th in 500 free qualification. This meant she missed out on the final, which Thomas won.

Of course, it’s far from the first time Thomas has been the target of right-wing attacks. The right-wing media, Gaines included, lost their collective minds when it was reported that Thomas had been nominated for “NCAA Woman of the Year”. Except she hadn’t. She had been nominated as Penn’s candidate for the Ivy League nomination but ultimately wasn’t selected.

Michigan Wants To “Change The Narrative” Over Past CFP Failings

After going 0-2 in College Football Playoff games over the last two years, Michigan is looking to change its fortunes this season. “I felt like last year I got caught up in the noise and all the emotions of it. I’m just trying to stay simple, trying to focus on dominating meetings, dominating practice. I’ve just been focusing this entire offseason to make sure I’m locked in on all the little details and that doesn’t happen again,” starting quarterback J.J. McCarthy said.

After falling to Georgia in 2021 and TCU in 2022, Michigan returned to the CFP as undefeated Big 10 champions. They were one of the nation’s best teams wire-to-wire, culminating in a Big 10 title game shutout win over Iowa. However, of course, it’s a season mired in controversy. Head coach Jim Harbaugh was suspended multiple times due to recruiting infractions and a sign-stealing investigation. But now Michigan can put all that behind them as they face Alabama on New Year’s Day. The winner will face Washington or Texas in the National Championship.

Florida State Considering Raising Banner If Undefeated Season Continues

Meanwhile, Florida State could further defy the institution of college football if they end their season undefeated. Players have admitted to serious discussions about raising a national championship banner if they end the season as the only undefeated Power 5 champion. “It’s only right. Nothing else needs to be said if we’re the only undefeated team,” linebacker Kalen DeLoach told ESPN. There are just two other undefeated Power 5 champions, with Michigan and Washington both playing in the College Football Playoff.

However, the team also stressed that they were strictly focused on their upcoming Orange Bowl matchup with Georgia. “The Orange Bowl is an awesome bowl, one of the best in the country, and we have a great opportunity in front of us playing Georgia. It’s still a big game for us, and we’re taking it serious. We’re focused on the guys we have here to help us win the game,” quarterback Brock Glenn said.

Big Ten Schools Call For Action On Michigan Sign-Stealing

Representatives from 13 of the schools in college athletics’ Big Ten Conference have urged the conference commissioner to take action against the 14th school, Michigan. This comes after a wide-ranging and elaborate sign-stealing operation was exposed and is now being investigated by the NCAA. Five sources familiar with the call told ESPN that the coaches demanded immediate action against Michigan. “Collectively, the coaches want the Big Ten to act — right now. What are we waiting on? We know what happened,” one source summarized. As a result, the Conference scheduled a call between the commissioner and school athletic directors for later in the week.

Coaches reportedly used “tainted”, “fraudulent”, and “unprecedented” to describe Michigan’s actions. Furthermore, coaches pointed to Michigan’s 22-1 conference record over the last three years, the period of time that the sign-stealing operation has reportedly been in place, as proof of its effect on the conference. “People don’t understand the seriousness of it. How it truly impacted the game plan. To truly know if it’s a run or a pass, people don’t understand how much of an advantage that was for Michigan,” another source said.

The Michigan sign-stealing operation was first reported two weeks ago by Yahoo! and has steadily grown in scope. The investigation has centered on Connor Stalions, a long-time staffer within the football program. Stalions is found to have bought tickets to 35 games at 17 venues over the last three years. This includes 12 Big 10 schools. While in attendance, Stalions is believed to have recorded the sidelines in order to capture footage of a team’s play-calling signs. While sign-stealing is not prohibited, in-person scouting of future opponents and sign-stealing via electronic means is banned under NCAA rules. Stalions is currently on paid suspension from his position.

Furthermore, a former Division III coach has claimed that Stalions paid him to record footage at least one game involving a future Michigan opponent. While most of Michigan’s coaching staff has denied knowledge of the sign-stealing operation, the school said that it is cooperating with the Big Ten and NCAA in their investigations. Michigan are currently 8-0 and lead the Big Ten East. Their season will likely be decided with a matchup against Ohio State in the regular season finale.

TCU Used “Dummy Signals” To Thwart Michigan Sign-Stealing During CFP

TCU reportedly used “dummy signals” to counter sign-stealing by Michigan during their College Football Playoff matchup earlier this year. According to sources who spoke with Yahoo!, TCU received calls in the run-up to their Fiesta Bowl game against Michigan, informing them that Michigan had likely stolen their play-calling signs. “Sometimes we froze a play before the snap. We’d call a play and then we’d signal in another play with an old signal but we told players to run the original play,” one TCU coach told the outlet about how they countered the potential leak.

The news came out amid the unfolding situation at Michigan. The university suspended eight-year employee Connor Stalions due to an NCAA investigation into sign-stealing. Stalions had reportedly bought tickets to over 40 NCAA games over the last three years and attended the games to illegally record the play-calling signs of upcoming and potential Michigan opponents. While the NCAA does not specifically prohibit sign-stealing, both in-person scouting of future opponents and the electronic recording of play-calling signs are both banned.

More Trouble For Michigan

The sign-stealing scandal is just one of three investigations currently occurring at Michigan. Coach Jim Harbaugh is still under investigation for recruiting violations that occurred during the COVID-19 dead period in 2020. Harbaugh served a three-game suspension to begin the season and rulings on further infractions are expected next year. However, it remains to be seen just how extensive knowledge of the sign-stealing scheme was.

Meanwhile, the FBI was reportedly at the school’s Ann Arbor campus earlier this week as part of a third investigation. Very little information into the firing of assistant coach Matt Weiss has been released since it happened earlier this year. However, Weiss was fired over “unauthorized computer access crimes” that occurred at Michigan’s athletics facilities. However, UoM Deputy Police Chief Melissa Overton told ESPN the investigation, which now involves the FBI, is “extensive, ongoing and is of the utmost priority. Furthermore, Overton noted that it covered multiple states.

It’s not something she shows off on social media, but a routine and dedication she should be proud of nonetheless. Alaina lives nearby the salon with her husband, which Marshall Mathers attended and even walked her down the aisle for.

In addition, Alaina Scott’s previously spoken about her job on Eminem’s biological daughter Hailie Jade’s podcast. “I’m about to go back to esthetician school,” she remarked in their conversation, released online before these new pictures emerged. “It’s only a four-month program. Although it isn’t as popular as its predecessor, there is no doubt that fans still love it. Jumpman is consistently bringing out new colorways, which has always been fun for sneakerheads. For instance, we have seen a whole lot of Player Exclusive Air Jordan 1 Low models over the past month or so. These colorways have not been revealed through official channels.
