Jeezy Credits Snoop Dogg And E-40 For Helping Him Get ‘Back On The Right Course’

More than a decade and a half ago, Jeezy arrived on the hip-hop scene as one of the earliest trap artists in the genre, joining the likes of T.I. and Gucci Mane. In the years that followed, Jeezy, who hails from Atlanta just like the other aforementioned artists, would go on to drop well-appreciated albums and mixtapes and grow into one of the most respected rappers from that time period. However, in Jeezy’s own words, his rise didn’t come without lessons from a pair of rappers that came before him, them being Snoop Dogg and E-40.

During an appearance on Spotify’s Best Advice podcast with Kim Bennett Taylor, Jeezy shared a time where Snoop Dogg and E-40 “g-checked” him after a run-in with the law during a video shoot.

“Snoop Dogg and E-40 they looking at me like I’m crazy. Say ‘you know what? You know what’s the difference between you and Pac?’ and I was just like ‘Whoa.’” he said on the episode. “I’m like ‘OK’ and they just went on to say ‘Yo listen, he never stopped what he was about. He never let up on his people. He never…’ and it was like ‘Yo, you, you better get out here and do what you’re supposed to be doing. Because these people believe you and they riding with you. And you ain’t moving right. And we telling you that.”

Jeezy continued to praise and thank Snoop and E-40 for their actions. “I don’t really think, you know, Snoop and E40 and those guys get enough credit for who they really are, man,” he added. “Like you know, those guys save lives you know what I’m saying. And, and, and they definitely got me back on the right course but they’ve been through what I’ve been through.”

Snoop Dogg Remakes Classic Rap Album Covers From Ice Cube And LL Cool J In His ‘Look Around’ Video

Snoop Dogg is a busy man nowadays. The Long Beach rap legend consistently finds himself in headlines, often for good reasons like his appearance at Triller’s recent Fight Club event and his upcoming role on Jamie Foxx’s Netflix vampire hunter movie. Other times it’s for more controversial things like his recent beef with Eminem. Through these ups and downs, if there’s one thing Snoop will absolutely give to his fans it’s new music and that’s something he did last week.

Celebrating the release of his eighteenth album, From Tha Streets 2 Tha Suites, Snoop returned with a new video for “Look Around.” The visual finds Snoop sifting through a crate of vinyl LPs filled with various rap albums. As the rapper picks one up to look at, the video transitions to him on a recreated version of the cover. The various covers Snoop remakes include LL Cool J’s Radio, Ice-T’s Power, Eric B & Rakim’s Paid In Full, Big Daddy Kane’s Long Live The Kane, Eazy-E’s Eazy-Duz-It, Too $hort’s Life Is… Too $hort, Ice Cube’s AmeriKKKa’s Most Wanted and Death Certificate, and Snoop’s own Doggystyle.

“Look Around” can be found on the From Tha Streets 2 Tha Suites album which Snoop released on 4/20 to celebrate the weed-themed holiday. Its ten tracks feature contributions from Mozzy, Larry June, J Black, Devin The Dude, and more.

Snoop Dogg Says DMX Rented Out His Studio To Record His Upcoming Album After Their ‘Verzuz’ Battle

One of the best recent memories people have of DMX is his Verzuz battle with Snoop Doggz last July. The late rapper could be seen in high spirits as he and Snoop went back and forth, playing some of the most popular records from their catalogs. Alas, DMX tragically passed away less than a year later, after a reported drug overdose triggered a heart attack. In a recent interview with Hot97, Snoop explained that his battle with DMX is one of his favorite memories of him.

“He actually did his whole album at my studio when he finished Verzuz,” Snoop revealed during the conversation. “He never left, stayed in L.A. and rented my studio out and did his whole album. I cooked with him, I laid it out for him.” He added, “That was the best moment, that he felt comfortable enough to do his album at my spot, and didn’t leave L.A. until it was done.”

Snoop also spoke about another moment with DMX, one that involved old-school cars and music. “One night I’m sitting in the back and cuz jump in the passenger seat, and we’re just there chopping it up listening to old-school music,” he said. “If you know anything about DMX, you know he don’t f*ck with rap. That n***a don’t f*ck with no rap. So I’m playing all this old-school music, it’s turning this n***a on he’s singing all the words, he more into it than me!”

Snoop’s sit-down on Hot97 comes as DMX’s family prepares to hold memorial services. The first will be today, April 24 at 4 p.m. EST, while the second will occur on April 25 at 2:30 p.m. EST. Both events will be livestreamed, with the former airing on YouTube and the latter on BET.
