Drakeo The Ruler’s Family Details The $20 Million Lawsuit They’re Filing Against Live Nation

After the tragic stabbing of Drakeo The Ruler at the Once Upon A Time In LA festival in December, the young rapper died from the injuries he sustained at the event. Directly after her son, born Darrell Caldwell, was murdered, his mother, Darrylene Corniel, said she planned to sue the event over this wrongful death. Today, Billboard reports that the family’s lawyer, James Bryant, has outlined some of their legal action against Live Nation, C3 Presents, and Bobby Dee Presents.

Bryant said a lack of precautions to protect the rising young artist led to a situation where he was “essentially lynched,” and said the family will be seeking up to $20 million in damages. “His life was taken way too soon,” Bryant continued. “This should never have never happened if those promoters had actually had the proper security protocols. This was a preventable death,” he added, citing the fact that Drakeo was assigned “no security” and noting the barricades at the event were completely insufficient. Those who failed Drakeo the Ruler, they’re going to be held accountable,” the lawyer concluded.

Drakeo was stabbed during a skirmish backstage, much of which was captured on video, and the lawyer’s displayed this footage during their press conference. Billboard reached out for comment from the promoters involved but so far they have yet to respond.

Kendrick Lamar, Mary J. Blige, Dr. Dre Get “The Call” In New Pepsi Superbowl Commercial

Kendrick Lamar

In September, the super bowl announced that Dr.Dre, Mary J Blige, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, and Kendrick Lamar will perform at halftime at the Super Bowl sponsored by Pepsi. The news was a surprise to hip-hop fans after a few years of major stars ditching the Super Bowl over social justice protests.  The wait is nearly over […]

Snoop Dogg And Martha Stewart Will Host This Year’s Puppy Bowl (But More Importantly, Elmo Will Be There)

Legendary duo and BFFs Snoop Dogg and Martha Stewart are returning to this year’s Puppy Bowl XVIII — this time pulling double duty as hosts and coaches. The rapper will coach Team Fluff, while Stewart will be in charge of Team Ruff. The teams will be made up of over 100 adoptable dogs from 67 shelters across the country, in order to raise awareness for pet adoption. There will also be a Kitty Halftime Show for anyone who prefers felines (perhaps Snoop Lion will make an appearance).

But the main event will be an appearance by superstar icon Elmo and his rescue puppy, Tango. Zoey and her pet rock Rocco are not slated to appear, which is probably for the best.

Both Snoop Dogg and Stewart hosted the events last year, but coaching will be a new role for the two, which includes training sessions, drills, and motivational speeches for the pups. The two have paired up a handful of times over the past few years, hosting various specials together.

This won’t be the only role Snoop Dogg has at this year’s Super Bowl, as he is also slated to perform at the halftime show alongside Dr. Dre, Mary J. Blige, Kendrick Lamar, and Eminem.

Puppy Bowl XVIII will air on Animal Planet and Discovery+ Feb. 13th ad 2 pm ET. You can meet the puppy players ahead of time here.

The 2022 Super Bowl Halftime Show Trailer Combines Hits By Eminem, Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Kendrick Lamar, And Mary J. Blige

A few months ago, hip-hop fans’ dreams came true when it was announced that Eminem, Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Kendrick Lamar, and Mary J. Blige would all be performing together at the 2022 Super Bowl Halftime Show on February 13. Now, as the big day is less than a month away, Pepsi has shared a cinematic new teaser video for the performance.

“The Call,” a near-4-minute video helmed by Straight Outta Compton director F. Gary Gray, features each artist getting an important call, prompting them all to head to SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California for the big game. Through the cinematic clip, snippets of the legends’ iconic songs set the stage for the show, as the ad features “Rap God,” “The Next Episode,” “Family Affair,” “Humble,” “Still D.R.E.,” and “California Love.”

Gray says of the video in a statement (via The New York Post), “Each time I collaborate with Dre, it seems to mark an important moment in entertainment history, from projects like Friday, Set It Off, Straight Outta Compton, to now the Pepsi Super Bowl LVI Halftime Show. As a super fan, I consider it an honor and privilege to authentically build and create this moment with five of the most legendary artists in music history.”

Todd Kaplan, VP of Marketing at Pepsi, also said in a statement, “Now that we are just weeks away from the most anticipated Pepsi Super Bowl Halftime Show performance of all time, we’re bringing fans closer to the magic of what will certainly be a colossal moment in pop culture history.”

Snoop Dogg And Heidi Klum Have A Dancefest For Her New EDM-Heavy Single, ‘Chai Tea With Heidi’

One great thing about Snoop Dogg? He’s never been the kind of rapper to shy away from collaborating with women, in fact, he’s also embraced feminine energy (and lullabies) with open arms, from Katy Perry, to Martha Stewart, and now, supermodel Heidi Klum.

In her native Germany, Klum hosts the modeling reality show Germany’s Next Top Model, and when the idea came up for her to also create a theme song for the show, well she jumped at the chance. After Snoop got on board, Klum also managed to get Rod Stewart to approve the pair using his song “Baby Jane” for their version, which is called “Chai Tea With Heidi.” Finally, DJ Duo WeddingCake, composed of Tom Kaulitz (48-year-old Heidi’s 31-year-old husband) and Devon Culiner.

Still, the most fascinating part is Klum wanting to work with Snoop Dogg — she spoke to SiriusXM today about the unlikely collaboration. “I love Snoop Dogg,” she started. “Like why don’t I do a duet with Snoop Dogg? And they were like, ‘Really? With Snoop Dogg? That sounds amazing. Like do you know each other?’ And I’m like, ‘Well, I feel like I know him enough over the years that I feel like I can, you know, call him up and just ask him.’ And so I really literally just did. I called him up and I said, ‘Hey, do you wanna do this song with me for my TV show in Germany? And hey, while we’re at it, we might as well just like put it out in the world.’ And he was like, ‘Yeah, you know, let’s do it. Come to Inglewood and let’s see what we can do.’”

Snoop Dogg Has Filed For A Trademark On His Own Brand Of Hot Dogs, Fittingly Called ‘Snoop Doggs’

Snoop Dogg is a master of branding. While he’s been known to dabble in everything from cookbooks to cannabis (of course), he’s always looking to expand his personal brand. Now, according to Billboard, he’s even looking to move in on Oscar Mayer’s territory, filing an application with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office to trademark “Snoop Doggs,” his own brand of hot dogs and sausages. While that doesn’t mean that any plans are in motion just yet, his lawyers want to make sure the name is available if or when he does decide to sell them.

Filed in December as an intent-to-use application, the trademark suggests that he does have future plans. If so, he’ll have to squeeze in running the company between a bunch of other ventures, including releasing and performing new music as both a solo act and a member of the West Coast supergroup Mount Westmore alongside E-40, Ice Cube, and Too Short. He’s also Def Jam’s new executive creative consultant, a supporting cast member of 50 Cent’s BMF series, and the pitchman for everything from cerveza to homemade soda machines. Along with all that, in just one month, he’ll be joining long-time collaborator Dr. Dre onstage at the Super Bowl to perform the halftime show.

He’s a pretty busy guy, but from those of us who love a good barbecue, we can’t wait for Snoop Doggs to hit the stores — and our grills.
