Dr Dre & Snoop Dogg Preview New Song “Thank You” Ahead Of “Missionary” Collab Album

As if Snoop Dogg and Dr Dre’s upcoming new collab album Missionary didn’t need more bangers (from what the singles indicate), they have even more in the vault. Moreover, the duo recently stopped by Complex Con for a live taping of the Drink Champs show with N.O.R.E., DJ EFN, and the rest of the crew. They played an unreleased and unfinished collab titled “Thank You,” which apparently will not make the new project’s final tracklist. It’s an awesome West Coast-flavored jam with a killer sample (or interpolation, maybe?) of Sly and the Family Stone’s “Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin).”

During this sit-down, Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg spoke on Missionary as a whole, with the former praising it among his finest craft to date. “Snoop came in and allowed me to get down the way I get down,” he remarked. “You know, I feel like this is some of my best work. Because my mentality for the musicianship and everything that goes into doing this s**t within those 12 notes has just advanced so much. So, yeah, I feel like right now, today, this is some of my best work.”

Snoop Dogg & Dr Dre Preview “Thank You”

While we’re sad that “Thank You” will apparently not make Missionary‘s tracklist, it seems like Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre have a lot of fire on the project to make up for it. For example, the duo and Alus released the single “Outta Da Blue” recently, which is a hard-hitting trunk-knocker with an engaging bounce and some compelling back-and-forths between Dre and Snoop. Sure, the tracks so far depend quite strongly on samples, but that’s part of the creativity and impressive fusions that they do so well.

Meanwhile, during their Drink Champs conversation, Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg nearly broke out in tears when discussing the evolution of their legacies and craft. There’s a lot of excitement for Missionary to be much more than just a solid comeback album, and if “Thank You” is leading us the right way, then that’s exactly what we will get. Hopefully the cut lands on a deluxe version down the road or as a stand-alone single.

Dr Dre Claims That His New Album “Missionary” With Snoop Dogg Is Among His Best Work

Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg will close out 2024 in grand fashion via their upcoming new album Missionary, set for release on Friday (December 13). Moreover, the iconic West Coast duo recently stopped by Complex Con for a live taping of the Drink Champs podcast with N.O.R.E., DJ EFN, and the rest of the crew. They had a great conversation that touched on a lot of different topics, one of them being how the California producer feels like this new project is among his finest work to date. It’s a high bar considering the classic status of records like The Chronic, Doggystyle, and 2001, but if you don’t have that confidence in your artistry, then what are your nurturing it for?

“Snoop came in and allowed me to get down the way I get down,” Dr. Dre said of his upcoming Snoop Dogg collab album, Missionary. “You know, I feel like this is some of my best work. Because my mentality for the musicianship and everything that goes into doing this s**t within those 12 notes has just advanced so much. So, yeah, I feel like right now, today, this is some of my best work.”

Dr Dre Sets High Bar For Snoop Dogg Collab Album Missionary

Elsewhere during the Drink Champs session with Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg also chimed into the backlash that the Super Bowl halftime show received for next year as a previous performer. “What we need to think about is that before Jay-Z got control of the Super Bowl, wasn’t no n***as performing,” he posited. “So let’s go back to the essence of the beginning of bridge. He’s creating a wave of artists to have an opportunity to perform. If you are a good artist and you are a great artist, your time will come.”

Meanwhile, the duo almost came to tears when talking about the evolution of Death Row and how their legacies live on today. We can’t wait to dive into Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre’s Missionary, especially since they seem particularly proud of what they crafted. If the singles are anything to go off of, then we should be in for a fun-loving, crisp, and celebratory experience.

Snoop Dogg Is Ranked ‘In The Top 1%’ For A Fun Recreational Activity And It Isn’t Weed-Related

Snoop Dogg conquered rap music. So outside of Snoop’s entrepreneurial ventures (including the animated series Doggyland), his days are filled up with other noteworthy side quests.

One of the “Outta Da Blue” rapper’s favorite recreational activities is undoubtedly enjoying a rolled marijuana plant. However, there could be something he spends more of his free time doing outside of smoking week. Over on Instagram, Snoop Dogg shared his Xbox “Year In Review” statistics for 2024 and his gaming landed him in the top 1% of Madden players.

“Time 2 flex 👊🏿 💪🏿 Tha Dogg top 1% in the world,” he wrote. “N clocced 1300 hours of Xbox this year 😆 🎮 ✅🔥🔥🔥. Real gamer yadigg.”

You read that correctly. So far, Snoop Dogg has accumulated a total Xbox play time of 1,363 hours. This safely places Snoop in the top 2% of console players.

As if that wasn’t impressive enough, the system provided Snoop with a breakdown of where which games he enjoyed the most in 2024, which included Madden NFL 24, Madden NFL 25, and EA Sports College Football 25. For both Madden NFL 24 and Madden NFL 25, Snoop secured a top 1% of active players slot. While he rests comfortably in the top 15% of active players of EA Sports College Football 25.

Given his knowledge of the game and his experience in the broadcast booth, followers are interested to see Snoop provide commentary for a football match on ESPN.

Snoop Dogg Gives His Daughter Staggering $1 Million Wedding Gift

Snoop Dogg is one of the most successful rappers of all time. He has branded his persona better than most of his peers. Snoop Dogg is one of the rare rappers who has crossed over so successfully that he can do a commercial with Martha Stewart and release an album with Dr. Dre in the span of one year. He has plenty in the bank, and this was confirmed during the rapper’s recent appearance on The Jennifer Hudson Show. Snoop Dogg and his daughter went on and discussed the latter’s wedding, and her very expensive wedding gift.

Snoop Dogg told the host that he went all out for his daughter, Cori Broadus. He purchased her a $1 million wedding gift. “It was a million dollars,” the rapper confirmed to a shocked and cheering crowd. “You know what? It’s the truth.” Snoop then put the cherry on top of the anecdote by revealing that his daughter has yet to open up the pricey gift. “The only thing about this gift is she never got to open it or she hasn’t opened it yet,” he explained. Snoop may have gone all out, but he also told Hudson that he originally pitched Cori on a scaled down wedding.

Snoop Dogg’s Daughter Has Yet To Open The Gift

The rapper’s thinking was that his daughter could have a smaller ceremony, and save more money as a result. “I told her if it was me, my wedding would have been $100 [thousand] and $900 [thousand] would have gone in my pocket,” he posited. Snoop Dogg has plenty of jokes, but he also spoke highly of Wayne Deuce, the man his daughter is marrying. “As a father, one thing you know is when it’s your baby girl. You ain’t gonna hand her off to nobody who ain’t gonna handle her with care,” the rapper noted.

Snoop Dogg and Cori Broadus are making the most of the pricey wedding. The wedding, and the journey to the altar, are being chronicled in the E! series Snoop’s Fatherhood: Cori and Wayne’s Story. The series premiered on December 2. It features all of the Snoop Dogg shenanigans you have come to expect from the iconic rapper.

On this date in 1996, Death Row Records, led by then CEO Suge Knight, dropped an exclusive Christmas project for the holiday season. Sadly, this album was released just shy of three months after the tragic shooting death of Tupac Shakur in Las Vegas.

The album featured all of Death Row’s favorite acts including Michel’le, who at the time was involved with Knight, Snoop Dogg and The Dogg Pound, Nate Dogg, Danny Boy and several other up and coming artists on the label. The star-studded line-up rehashed many Christmas soul classics and carols including “Silver Bells,” “Frosty Thee Snowman,” and “White Christmas.” With 200K in sales, the virtually unheard of album didn’t do too bad. The best part was that it was reportedly all for charity.

Salute to the entire Death Row for releasing this under the radar Hip-Hop classic!

Snoop Dogg & Dr. Dre Get Glitzy On Our New “Fire Emoji” Playlist Update: Stream

Even though the year is starting to die down, we still have plenty of new music to take us through 2024’s end on our latest Fire Emoji playlist update, which rounds up the best of the best new hip-hop releases of the week. Starting us off is the new single from Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre’s upcoming album, Missionary. It’s the track “Another Part Of Me” featuring Sting, and it samples “Message In A Bottle” by the singer’s band, The Police. Despite the odd choice, it works out relatively well thanks to more sharp percussion, some backing vocals, and a dash of charisma.

Next up on Fire Emoji are two unconventional but nonetheless impactful and massive blockbuster albums this week. Juice WRLD’s latest posthumous album and his final project, the long-awaited The Party Never Ends, finally came out this Friday, and while it’s certainly divisive, cuts like “Celebrate” with Offset seem to have resonated. In addition, J. Cole released his classic mixtape Friday Night Lights on streaming services for the first time. It came out 14 years ago, but cuts like “Before I’m Gone” still hit hard.

HNHH Fire Emoji Playlist: Stream

Speaking of albums, Fire Emoji also highlighted the new Kodak Black album Trill Bill. Sonically and mic-wise, it’s pretty much exactly what you expect from the Florida native, but if you’re interested in one of the most successful and engaging examples of these retreads, look no further than the song “News Matt.” As far as other new songs this week, Benny The Butcher and 38 Spesh followed up their collab album earlier in 2024 with the grimy and raw boom-bap cut, “SS2 Freestyle.”

Finally, we wanted to shout out The LOX for the surprising, glossy, and classic East Coast-evoking single, “Isley Money.” It’s about as confident, gritty, and focused as you would expect from this iconic hip-hop collective, and it’s a treat to hear them find inspiration and skill within this instrumental. Let us know what your favorite Fire Emoji inclusion was this week, as well as what else we missed, down in the comments section below. Check the playlist out above and, as always, come back to HNHH for the best new music releases around the clock.

Snoop Dogg continues his 2024 takeover with the release of “Another Part of Me,” featuring Sting and produced by Dr. Dre and The ICU. Released via Death Row, Aftermath, and Interscope, the track adds another dynamic collaboration to Snoop’s already legendary catalog.

This follows last week’s drop of “Outta Da Blue,” featuring Alus, and the announcement of Snoop’s upcoming album Missionary, due December 13. Earlier this month, he teased the album with “Gorgeous,” featuring Jhené Aiko.

Missionary reunites Snoop and Dr. Dre for their second full-length collaboration since Snoop’s groundbreaking 1994 debut Doggystyle. Packed with features from hip-hop icons Eminem, 50 Cent, Jelly Roll, Method Man, the late Tom Petty, and more, the album promises to be a landmark release in rap and pop culture.

Kendrick Lamar “wacced out murals” Lyric Breakdown

It feels like there’s a thin line between coincidences and calculated moves, at least for Kendrick Lamar. He’s often a few steps ahead of most, and the release of his new album, GNX, has been one of the year’s most anticipated albums, even though no one knew whether it would drop in 2024. It marked his first official project since Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers and his first album release post-TDE.

Context is important for this album. His historical beef with Drake is at the fore of this feud, especially after “Not Like Us” dominated the summer. However, this album isn’t strictly about Kendrick’s grievances with his peers–he’s coming for what’s his and destroying anything in his path. It all begins with “wacced out murals,” the blistering intro track that serves as the “Bomb First (My Second Reply)” to Kendrick’s The Don Killuminati: The 7 Day Theory. The first line alone addresses reports that one of his murals in Compton had been defaced in the wake of his Super Bowl halftime show announcement but this stands as a metaphor for the backlash he received following the news. Regardless, Kendrick is out for blood, and below, we’re breaking down the lyrics for the intro to GNX.

The Compton Mural

Despite the overwhelming amount of unity and support on the West Coast these days, there may have been a few individuals who just weren’t feeling Kendrick’s “Not Like Us.” The defacing of the artwork at Compton’s Honduras Restaurant Mi Sabor was seemingly handled by an OVO supporter, who X’d out Kendrick’s eyes, wrote the letters T and F, along with “OK,” before finishing with the acronyms of Drake’s October Very Own brand, XXL reports.

Drake

Of course, much of “wacced out murals” addresses the aftermath of his beef with Drake as early as the first verse when he raps, “It used to be f*ck that n***a but now it’s plural,” and “Put they head on a Cuban link as a monument,” which is an undoubted declaration of his unanimous win in the feud earlier this year. Much of the contention in the song–and the album at large– is directed at Drake or at the very least, what the Canadian rapper represents. However, the third verse of “wacced out murals” directly addresses a few talking points from the beef including a callback to “6:16 In L.A.”:

N***as from my city couldn’t entertain old boy
Promisin’ bank transactions and even Bitcoin
I never peaced it up, that shit don’t sit well with me
Before I take a truce, I’ll take ’em to Hell with me
If that money got in the hands of a crash dummy
Could jeopardize my family and burden the ones who love me

These lines refer to the rumors that Drake tried to put money out in the streets for dirt on Kendrick Lamar. Alleged Kendrick affiliate, Coolee Bravo, claimed that he fed Drake false information for $150K. This has yet to be confirmed but Kendrick suggests that Drake was playing with fire, especially since someone could’ve taken things too far and caused physical harm to Kendrick’s family.

Lil Wayne

While many have debated whether or not Lil Wayne was dissed on GNX, Kendrick clearly had no issues taking his foe’s boss to task following the NOLA rapper’s complaints about the Super Bowl. “Used to bump Tha Carter III, I held my Rollie chain proud/ Irony, I think my hard work let Lil Wayne down,” he raps in the second verse. Not only a reference to J. Cole’s “Let Nas Down” but this line serves as a direct response to Weezy and co. (Nicki Minaj etc.) who leaped to criticize Roc Nation and the Super Bowl without congratulating Kendrick Lamar.

For obvious reasons, the Young Money crew didn’t feel compelled to acknowledge Dot’s success after he duked it out with Wayne’s most notable protegé. This probably stung even more considering Kendrick once released a whole mixtape in dedication to Weezy. In fact, the intro of the project includes a glowing endorsement from Lil Wayne.

A few lines later, Kendrick seemingly takes digs at Lil Wayne’s musical output as of late. “Quite frankly, plenty artists, but they outdated/ Old-ass flows, trying to convince me that you they favorite,” he raps. It’s unclear if this is a shot at Wayne but most would agree that Wayne is far from his prime these days.

In response, Lil Wayne expressed confusion in a post on X. “Man wtf I do?! I just be chillin & dey still kome 4 my head. Let’s not take kindness for weakness. Let this giant sleep. I beg u all.  No one really wants destruction, not even me but I shall destroy if disturbed. On me. Love,” he tweeted.

Snoop Dogg

The West Coast’s never been as unified, though it seemed like Snoop felt like he was above the politics. Following the release of Drake’s “Taylor Made Freestyle,” where he used AI to replicate Snoop Dogg and Tupac and taunt Kendrick, the Doggfather seemingly crossed a line by posting the song on his Instagram and co-signing Drake’s effort, despite the backlash. “Snoop posted ‘Taylor Made,’ I prayed it was the edibles/ I couldn’t believe it, it was only right for me to let it go,” Kendrick raps on the song. Kendrick evidently felt some type of way about Snoop Dogg’s praise for Drake, especially since Snoop passed the West Coast torch to Dot. In response, Snoop tweeted, “K dot new album GNX 💥🔥🔥🔥🔥🎤🎤🎤🎤🎤   It was the edibles   🤦🏾 😆👊🏿  west west king.”

Nas

In the midst of the Super Bowl halftime show fallout, only a few people emerged with congratulatory messages for Kendrick Lamar. One of which was Nas, who also congratulated Kendrick on the release of GNX shortly after its release. “Always inspired by my brother KL. Keeping the essence of this shit alive and at the forefront. Salute King!” Nas captioned his latest post.

Diddy

Though his name appears to be omitted, Kendrick seemingly acknowledged the reckoning that the music industry is currently facing.

“Okay, f*ck your hip-hop, I watched the party just die
N**gas cackling about— while all of y’all is on trial
N**gas thought that I was antisocial when I stayed inside of my house
You better off to have one woman, everything tricky right now”

Some interpreted this as a shot at Diddy while others speculated that Kendrick might be referring to Young Thug and Lil Durk. However, Diddy’s trial has produced several unsavory memes, such as the term “No Diddy,” the baby oil memes, or the speculation surrounding “Diddy parties,” which makes this more likely the reference. Moreover, his claims against Drake on “Not Like Us” and “meet the grahams” seemingly mirror some of the allegations against Diddy in his court cases.

J. Cole

In another one where names aren’t mentioned, Kendrick seemingly takes a few digs at J. Cole who has willingly taken more Ls than Drake this year. With the release of “Port Antonio,” Cole attempted to address his position in the feud and his fear of “losing a bro” while maintaining that he’s a formidable opponent in the booth.

Twice on “wacced out murals,” Kendrick seemingly addresses J. Cole’s attempt to both sides his way through the beef. First, he mentions, “F*ck apologies, I wanna see y’all geeked up,” which feels like it could reference Cole’s initial statements at Dreamville Festival where he vowed to pull “7 Minute Drill” off of DSPs and offered an apology to Kendrick. The second time in the song where Kendrick appears to reference the feud is in the third verse when he raps, “Ayy, fuck anybody empathetic to the other side, I vow/ A bitch n***a love bitch n***as, they exist with ’em in style/ Exterminate ’em right now.” Since “Port Antonio” was Cole’s attempt to thwart the narrative surrounding his decision to bow out, it appears that Kendrick isn’t giving J. Cole as much grace as he’d like.

Andrew Schulz

Even Andrew Schulz caught a stray on “wacced out murals.” Toward the end of the song, Kendrick seemingly references Schulz’s controversy with James Duncan and Fuhad Dawodu, the British podcasters who apologized after engaging in some edgy misogynoir banter on the Flagrant podcast. “Don’t let no white comedian talk about no Black woman, that’s law,” Kendrick says. “Is this guy too woke to understand a joke?” Schulz said in response to the line, according to DJ Akademiks.

Katt Williams

Before the feud between Kendrick Lamar and Drake exploded, Katt Williams set the tone for 2024, and it appears that Dot channeled that spirit. Katt Williams sat down with Club Shay Shay at the beginning of the year for an explosive interview where he aired out his grievances with the entertainment industry, calling out everyone from Steve Harvey to Diddy. So when Dot raps, “Make Katt Williams ‘nem proud, the truth ‘bout to get loud,” we can imagine that he’s readying the world for a rude awakening.

Today In Hip Hop History: Snoop Dogg Dropped His Debut Album ‘Doggystyle’ 31 Years Ago

SnoopDoggyDoggDoggystyle

Snoop Dogg Doggystyle Frontal

On this date in 1993, Calvin Broadus Jr. aka Snoop Doggy Dogg released his highly anticipated first album Doggystyle on Death Row Records. This was the label’s first full-length project by a solo artist, which was piggybacking on the success of Death Row’s last release, The Chronic, the Dr. Dre album where many had just heard Snoop for the first time.

Doggystyle, which was produced exclusively by Snoop’s mentor, Dr. Dre, huddled around the concept of the “dogg”, with the animated cover and cartoon insert of a street-wise hound that wanted by the opps and the “bitches” for his “doggystyle”, which of course, is a famous sex position.

Some of the album’s leading tracks include the x-rated “It Ain’t No Fun (If The Homies Can’t Have None)” featuring childhood friend Nate Dogg and then recently formed Dogg Pound, Daz and Kurupt, the Slick Rick ode “Lodi Dodi” and the world-famous alcoholic anthem “Gin And Juice”.

Even with a four mic rating, Source staff writer Reginald Dennis said that the album escaped the coveted Five Mic rating because he felt like it was “rushed”, but nonetheless, with the introduction of such a monumental artist coupled with the authenticity of the gang-ridden West Coast streets, this album is by far one of the most pivotal albums of the 90s, even before the East Coast/West Coast rivalry, which came at least two years later. Salute to Snoop, Dre, the Dogg Pound, The Lady Of Rage, RBX, Suge, and the rest of the legendary Death Row for putting together this classic album!
