Shaq Blasts Shannon Sharpe Over Response To His MVP Comments

Denver Nuggets superstar Nikola Jokic just won his third MVP, cementing him as one of the best players ever. In Jokic’s interview after receiving the award from the TNT basketball crew, Shaq made an interesting comment to the Joker. Shaq told Jokic he thought Oklahoma City Thunder star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander should have won MVP. The Big Aristotle says he didn’t mean any disrespect, but it was still an awkward and probably unnecessary moment. Shannon Sharpe, like many others, took issue with Shaq’s comments.

Sharpe responded to Shaq on his Nightcap podcast with Chad Ochocinco. The ESPN personality said, “Shaq should have five MVPs.” He continued, saying, “He sees a guy like Nikola Jokic that’s not as dominant as him, gets three (MVP awards) in four years, I think a part of Shaq is envious of that.” Shannon then said that Shaq’s credentials make it hard to put him in the all-time player conversations because of his work ethic. Now, He has responded big time on Instagram by throwing some serious heat toward Shannon Sharpe.

Shaq Throws Shots At Shannon Sharpe

Shaq starts by saying his comments about defending SGA to Jokic weren’t disrespectful. He then says Shannon needs to be a top-10 player at his position to even speak on Superman. He then says Shannon Sharpe relies on clickbait and gossip to get where he is and that he is ultimately jealous of him. The TNT commentator lists his credentials and emphasizes that he is worth more than the ESPN talking head. All in all, he is not playing with Shannon Sharpe. His comments were always going to cause controversy, so the question is, why would he say that to Jokic anyway?

Shannon Sharpe will probably be responding soon. The back and forth between himself and Shaq is almost certainly not over. Sharpe is known to deliver some serious body blows if you push him. He may be a little jealous of Jokic, but he may just have felt like he needed to defend SGA. Whatever the case, Jokic has established himself as one of the best bigs ever. Overall, Shaq is definitely someone who would try to rain on his parade a little bit, being a fellow NBA great.

Moneice Slaughter says that in 2012, she got matching tattoos together with Shaq and planned to spend New Year’s Eve together. Then Shaq popped up in the Bahamas with Hoopz, who had the same tattoo she had just gotten from Shaq. [NBA] road trips allowed me to be with my husband and experience the NBA life for a little while.” Shaq responded to the quote on Instagram with a sad post saying, “I understand…I wouldn’t have been in love with me either. Wishing you all the best….”

Dave East Ranked His All-Time Best Ballers Who Rap, And Has A Very Short List Of Rappers Who Can Actually Ball

There has long been a lot of crossover between the basketball and hip-hop world. We regularly see artists putting in work in the gym with top hoops trainers and even trying their hand at pro ball, while there is a long history of NBA players hopping in the studio to put out a rap album. As 2 Chainz — who played basketball at Alabama State — once eloquently explained to Dime, a lot of rappers and basketball players come from the same places.

“I know for a lot of Blacks, we thought that our only way to get out of the hood was either rappin’ or playing basketball,” 2 Chainz said. “So it has a common denominator for me and people who have a low socioeconomic status for a background. It kind of feels like you have to have a sport or some kind of other skill set, you dig, to get your mama a house. So that’s why we all want to play basketball, and that’s why all basketball players want to rap.”

However, there are levels to success in that crossover realm, and plenty of debate as to who has done the best when dipping a toe into that other world. On the most recent episode of Uproxx’s “Fresh Pair,” Dave East joined Just Blaze and Katty Customs and the conversation turned to hoops (5:00 mark of the above video). East played college ball at Richmond and Towson before becoming a hip-hop artist, and as such, he’s well-equipped to offer his list of the best ballers who rap and rappers who ball — noting there aren’t many that can really hoop.

“Ballers to rap? I would say, gotta throw Shaq in there. Shaq had a feature with Biggie, so you always gotta throw Shaq in. Shaq was hard, he was probably one of the first ones,” East said. “A.I. I feel like a lot of people don’t put Iverson in there, but I remember the “40 Bars” and all that. I remember Iverson, you feel me. Dame Lillard, to me now, in this generation right now, I think Dame got it as far as a baller that rap.

“Rappers to ball? Me. Yeah, I’m gonna put myself on the top of that list. I gotta get in shape. I feel like a lot of them rapper basketball dudes, they do it now. They got famous, they got a name, and that’s like their hobby in their free time. Like, I really used to play basketball. Before I ever wrote a rhyme or ever really thought about this, I was in the park or in the gym. I was really playing ball. When I see them lists, I laugh. I really used to do that. I need 30 days to get in shape. I got real footage on a real Division 1 program. Go find another rapper, I think 2 Chainz played D1. But it wasn’t too many of them that was. There’s a few of ‘em that nice. Salute the ones that are.”

It’s safe to say East isn’t very impressed by the videos of artists in the lab with Chris Brickley and other hoops trainers, but he does recognize he would need a month to train to get back in actual hoops shape.

Shaq And Kenny Got A Laugh Out Of TNT Playing Kendrick Lamar’s Drake Diss ‘Euphoria’ At Halftime

shaq-kenny
TNT

Wednesday night was a big one in the Mavs-Clippers series, as the two teams met in Los Angeles for a pivotal Game 5 (I’m legally obligated as a sportswriter to call it that) with the series tied 2-2. The first half was a back-and-forth battle until the Mavs went on a late second quarter run to pull ahead by 10 at the halftime break on TNT. Once the halftime buzzer sounded, it was time for Charles Barkley, Shaquille O’Neal, Kenny Smith, and Ernie Johnson to break down that half of basketball in the studio.

However, before they could get to that, TNT’s production team decided to tap into the dominant story of the day in the world of pop culture, playing Kendrick Lamar’s Drake diss that he released earlier in the day, “Euphoria”, in the transition from the booth in L.A. to the studio in Atlanta. Only half of the desk realized what was being played in the background as Ernie did his lead-in, with Shaq and Kenny both chuckling about how they were suddenly in the middle of the rap beef.

The least surprising thing ever is that Shaq (literally a DJ) and Kenny (a man who still listens to new music) would recognize the Drake diss playing while Ernie (old, white) and Chuck (listens to country) would be oblivious. Shaq and Kenny got a kick out of it, with Jet joking that they were inserting themselves in the middle of the rap beef and they needed to play Drake’s “Push Ups” to stay neutral in the battle between the Los Angeles and Toronto artists.

In the comments section over at Hollywood Unlocked, many expressed sympathy for Brown. Smh,” one person wrote. “Stop giving him a platform and get him some help,” said another. Needless to say, many believe its about time Brown stops getting invited to these shows. Shaq Claims He Wasn’t Flirting With Ice Spice In Viral IG Post From Super Bowl

It is crazy to think the Super Bowl was only one month ago. It was a thrilling game, being one of the few in the history of the NFL to go to overtime. However, outside of the action on the field, there were a lot of other funny subplots going on during that weekend. Shaq and Ice Spice were two celebrities not named Taylor Swift or Travis Kelce making big headlines that evening. The two respective superstars were seen photographed together in Taylor’s suite during halftime. Shaq wound up posting the picture of him, Spice, and Swift with a caption that went viral.

“Ice Spice so dam fine,” the former NBA legend wrote. Of course, fans ran with that, speculating that the Big Diesel was shooting his shot. However, according to TMZ Sports the opposite is true. In one of Shaq’s recent episodes of the Big Podcast With Shaq, he cleared up the rumors as to why he actually posted it, caption and all.

Shaq Was Just Being Nice To Ice Spice

“The reason why I put out the post with Ice Spice, not ’cause I was trying to flirt, but I didn’t really blow her off, but I just wanted to show her some respect too.” He continued, “That’s why I put the post up because I was in there and it was all about, ‘Oh, Shaq met Taylor’ and [Ice Spice] was in the picture.” Furthermore, he knows how he flirts with women, and this was not that. “I don’t flirt like that. “Just ’cause I say ‘hi’ don’t mean I’m tryna slide in the DMs.”

What are your thoughts on Shaq saying he was not flirting with Ice Spice in his picture with her during the Super Bowl? Do you think he was telling the truth, why or why not? How do you think the rapper took the post? Was this the funniest moment from Super Bowl weekend? We would like to hear what you have to say, so be sure to leave your takes in the comments section. Shaq Has One Major Issue With Zion Williamson’s Recent Dunk Contest Comments

Shaq has expressed his disappointment in Zion Williamson’s recent comments about participating in the dunk contest if he is named an All-Star. For the Hall of Famer, Williamson didn’t express enough desire to be named an All-Star. “You have to see it, Zion. When I make the All-Star team, yes. All that if talk, it’s just telling me that you’re not fully confident in yourself. Which is ok, he’s still a young player. But at some point, you have to say — like I said in Vegas — ‘this is my league’,” Shaq said.

Williamson is a two-time All-Star, appearing at the midseason event in 2021 and 2023. Williamson is averaging 22/5.5/5.2 this season but was not named an All-Star in a crowded field across both conferences. The Pelicans are 37-25 and fifth in the Western Conference.

Shaq Shows Zion Williamson No Mercy

However, as Shaq himself alluded to, it’s not the first time that he has laid into the 2019 first-overall pick. Shaq and Charles Barkley had no time for Williamson’s poor showing against the Lakers in the semifinals of the In-Season Tournament last December. “Does not run hard — it’s not a diss, this is gonna be a lesson from one great big man to another guy that can be a great. Does not run hard. I had the same problem my first, second year — I thought I was running hard. Charles talks about this all the time, my talent’s gonna get me 20. When I start going to 20, 30, and 40, it’s because I started doing certain things,” Shaq said.

However, the Hall of Fame big man wasn’t finished “He doesn’t create easy points for himself. I saw a couple times when he had a couple times at the basket, he don’t seal, right? He doesn’t demand the ball … and he doesn’t have that look. Like, I’m not the greatest athlete ever, but I know a look when I see it. In every sport, I know a look. Tiger Woods had that look, Jack Nicklas had that look. He just doesn’t have that look. And he doesn’t rebound. He does not rebound,” he continued.

Jay-Z & 50 Cent Reebok Collabs Teased By Shaq And Allen Iverson

Sneaker heads were pretty excited by recent news out of Reebok. The company made the bold move of getting some NBA legends to step into major positions in their basketball division. Shaquille O’Neal returned to the company as president of basketball with Allen Iverson as his VP. The pair appeared on a recently released episode of the Complex show Sneaker Shopping. While on the show they delivered some news that fans of early 2000s sneakerheads should be pretty excited about.

In the episode the pair discuss their desire to bring back some of the collaborations with rappers that Reebok did. The host of the show specifically brought up Jay-Z recently pulling up to the Super Bowl in his own Reebok collab shoes from 2003. He gives Shaq and AI the opportunity to take credit for that viral moment. “Of course, so 50, when I call you, holla, JAY-Z, we’ll be calling ya. We definitely want to give the fans and the consumer what they want, but we’re also gonna be coming with new styles and new technologies. But, shout out to JAY-Z, shout out to 50 Cent. We definitely will be having a conversation with them very soon,” Shaq responded. Check out the full new episode of Sneaker Shopping below.

Jay-Z And 50 Cent Reebok Collabs Could Be Returning

Over the weekend, Jay-Z popped up in discussions about the new ScHoolboy Q album Blue Lips. That’s because he got the chance to listen to the record in advance of it’s release and the meetup was posted to Instagram. Some of Q’s Top Dawg contemporaries like SZA and Isaiah Rashad pulled up in the comments of the post with some jokes about their situation. SZA in particular was happy for Q, but wondered why she’d never got the chance to play her music for Jay.

What do you think of Reebok potentially bringing back Jay-Z and 50 Cent’s collabs? Do you think bring in Shaq and AI to work in the basketball department was a good move? Let us know in the comment section below.

Shaq Presents His Daughter With Her McDonald’s All-American Jersey: Watch

Shaq surprised his daughter Me’Arah with a special presentation of her McDonald’s All-American jersey during a recent episode of Inside The NBA. Me’Arah was visibly moved as Shaq presented the jersey to her and told her he was proud.

It was a special moment between the father and daughter, who lives with her and stepfather in Texas. Shaq recently opened up to Jason Kelce about how lonely his life is. “Enjoy your family, brother. I lost my family and I didn’t have anybody. You got the ring. [I] lost my whole family. I’m in a 100,000-square-foot house all by myself,” Shaq lamented on The Big Podcast.

Shaq’s Daughter Commits To Florida

Later this year, Me’Arah O’Neal will head to Florida to begin her college career with the Gators. O’Neal chose Florida over seven other schools, including her father’s alma mater, LSU. “I went on the Florida visit, and I had a feeling that’s where I belonged. And that I was going to be most successful if I went to go play at Florida. I felt like I connected with Coach Kelly more than I connected with any of the other schools that recruited me. She really cares about me not just on the court but off the court. That’s important for me,” O’Neal said.

The #33 recruit in the 2024 class, O’Neal joins a promising Gators class that also includes #16 recruit Alivia McGill, the highest-ranked recruit Florida has ever landed in women’s basketball. Furthermore, O’Neal said that the choice to sign with the Gators was hers alone. “My family was just there to support me. I was pressuring myself to make a decision, but I learned I had to be patient. And I did make this decision on my own,” she said. The Gators have struggled this season, going 14-13 with a 5-10 record in the SEC. They close out their regular season against Auburn on Sunday. Florida has not reached the NCAA tournament since 2022.
