A Seemingly Simple ‘Jeopardy’ Category About Rap Genres Left Contestants Stumped And Viewers Pissed Off

Jeopardy is supposed to challenge your knowledge. But during a recent episode of the beloved quiz show, researchers decided to dial back the intensity or so they thought. Over on Jeopardy’s official TikTok page, they shared a clip (viewable here) where contestant’s hip-hop IQ was put to the test.

The category titled “Rap Genres,” was crafted to be soft balls for players to bring in quick cash. However, many contestants were left stumped as host Ken Jennings rattled off questions. Going for the gusto, one contestant (Greg) sets thing off with the $800 clue: “The name of this genre associated with Memphis may be a mix of ‘crazy’ & ‘drunk.’”

The contestant correctly answers with “crunk” but things quickly went down hill. Greg then circles back to the $1,200 question: “Billboard says, the album ‘Trap Muzic’ by this rapper and actor ‘introduced ‘Trap’ to the masses.’”

Despite T.I.’s face being plastered on the screen, no contestant took a swing at answering the prompt.

This was folded up by the $1,600 question about about Big Freedia, the Queen of New Orleans bounce, which sparked a look of confusion on every contestant’s face.

But don’t worry Greg was able to nail the $2,000 question about Shaboozey thanks to the “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” and Beyoncé hint. However, viewers at home aren’t pleasure with the sheer amount of fumbles. In the comment section of the post, they were sure to let the show know.

“Knowing who Shaboozey is but not knowing T.I. Is diabolical 🤣🤣,” wrote one user.

“Alex Trebek, would have lost it when they didn’t know T.I.,” penned another.

“Why would he keep picking this category if he clearly didn’t know it though 😂,” chimed another.

Well, this isn’t the first time Jeopardy contestants sparked outrage over their lacking music knowledge.

For The First Time In Three Months, Shaboozey’s ‘A Bar Song (Tipsy)’ Isn’t No. 1 On The Hot 100

Back in July, Shaboozey’s “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart for the first time. Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us” then claimed the top spot the next week, but after that, it was all Shaboozey for a long time. “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” went on to spend 14 consecutive weeks at No. 1, since the chart dated July 27. Now, after 15 total weeks, “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” is no longer No. 1.

On the chart dated November 2, Morgan Wallen’s “Love Somebody” debuts in the top spot, knocking Shaboozey down to No. 2.

Ultimately, “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” has spent more time at No. 1 than any other song in 2024; The next closest is Post Malone and Wallen’s “I Had Some Help,” which enjoyed six weeks on top this year. On the all-time list for most weeks at No. 1, “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” is behind only Lil Nas X and Billy Ray Cyrus’ “Old Town Road” (19 weeks); Wallen’s “Last Night”; Luis Fonsi, Daddy Yankee, and Justin Bieber’s “Despacito”; and Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men’s “One Sweet Day” (16 weeks each). It’s also tied with Harry Styles’ “As It Was” at 15 weeks.

Elsewhere on the chart, Bruno Mars and Rosé’s “APT.” has the week’s biggest debut at No. 8. Mars and Lady Gaga’s “Die With A Smile” is also at No. 4, making this the first week Mars has had two top-10 singles since 2013, with “When I Was Your Man” and “Locked Out Of Heaven.”

Shaboozey’s “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” continues its dominant run atop the Billboard Hot 100, securing a 14th week at No. 1. The track, which became the artist’s first chart-topping hit in July, now holds the longest reign of 2024 and is within two weeks of tying Morgan Wallen’s 2023 smash, “Last Night,” for the longest No. 1 stay this decade at 16 weeks.

As Shaboozey’s debut Hot 100 entry with no other billed artists, “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” ties for the second-longest No. 1 run among solo breakthrough hits, behind Lil Nas X’s “Old Town Road,” which dominated for 19 weeks in 2019.

In addition to its Hot 100 success, “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” remains at No. 1 on the Hot Country Songs chart for an 18th consecutive week, the longest No. 1 streak of 2024.

The song, released via American Dogwood/EMPIRE, garnered 75.6 million radio airplay audience impressions, 26.4 million streams, and 6,000 sales in the U.S. from Oct. 4-10. It also posts an 11th week at No. 1 on the Radio Songs chart, reclaims the top spot on Streaming Songs, and holds steady at No. 2 on Digital Song Sales.

Shaboozey’s smash hit “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” continues to dominate the Billboard Hot 100, notching its 12th week at No. 1. The track, which became Shaboozey’s first Hot 100 chart-topper in July, has now doubled the reign of any other No. 1 this year, surpassing Post Malone’s “I Had Some Help,” featuring Morgan Wallen, which held the top spot for six weeks.

According to Billboard, the song also ties for the third-longest rule of the decade, cementing Shaboozey’s status as one of 2024’s biggest breakout stars. In addition to its Hot 100 success, “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” further extends its dominance on the Hot Country Songs chart, where it has now spent 16 weeks at No. 1.

Shaboozey Is On Heartbreak’s ‘Highway’ And His Cinematic Video Shows How Winding The Road Is

Rising country music star Shaboozey‘s chart-topping hit “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” encouraged everyone to raise a glass. But, beyond the foot-stomping smash lies a gut-wrenching tale of loss.

On his latest Where I’ve Been, Isn’t Where I’m Going single “Highway,” the heartbreak is hard to escape. In the official video for the song, Shaboozey shows just how winding that devastating road is.

Director Aiden Cullen turns that sorrow into a cinematic journey for all to accompany the musician on. As Shaboozey makes his way through the country’s back roads, loneliness is his only champion. As he sings, “Gave me your heart, gave you heartbreak / Sorry I’m lost in this dark place / Somehow I’ll make it to Sunday / I promise I’ll be coming back / I might die on the highway / With all my regrets / I’ve been driving for miles and miles and miles / I can’t see where it ends,” the gloomy environment paired with his risky outlaw behavior helps to cement the fantasy.

“A Bar Song (Tipsy)” gave fans something to pour one out for whereas “Highway” tells you why the bottle has become his best friend.

Dolly Parton Doesn’t Think Beyoncé’s ‘Cowboy Carter’ Was ‘Shut Out’ From The CMA Awards, Despite Receiving No Nominations

Dolly Parton is arguably the Queen of country music. So, when Beyoncé decided to creatively venture into the genre, she was sure to tilt her brim to her classic “Jolene.” Despite the homages to country greats, rising stars, and critical acclaim, Cowboy Carter was notably missing from the CMA Awards nomination list.

While the BeyHive are fuming over the “snub,” Dolly Parton feels differently. During an interview with Variety, Dolly Parton said she doesn’t believe Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter album was intentionally ignored.

“Well, you never know,” she said. “There’s so many wonderful country artists that, I guess probably the country music field, they probably thought, well, we can’t really leave out some of the ones that spend their whole life doing that. But I didn’t even realize that until somebody asked me that question.”

Dolly went on to praise the project, saying: “But it was a wonderful album. She can be very, very proud of, and I think everybody in country music welcomed her and thought that, that was good. So I don’t think it was a matter of shutting out, like doing that on purpose. I think it was just more of what the country charts and the country artists were doing, that do that all the time, not just a specialty album.”

Dolly isn’t Beyoncé’s only Cowboy Carter collaborator to subtly address the matter. Although Shaboozey secured his own collaboration, he went on to thank Beyoncé for pushing the genre forward.

“That goes without saying,” he wrote. “Thank you, Beyoncé for opening a door for us, starting a conversation, and giving us one of the most innovative country albums of all time!”

Beyoncé hasn’t issued a response to the nominations list.

Shaboozey’s come a long way from appearing on the Spider-Man: Enter the Spider-Verse soundtrack (that’s him on “Start a Riot” with Duckwrth). He’s since collaborated with Beyoncé on her genre-busting new album Cowboy Carter and reached No. 1 on the Hot 100 with his J-Kwon-sampling single, “A Bar Song (Tipsy).” Not bad for a rapper-turned-country-singer who isn’tyou know.

The single’s success has propelled his third album, Where I’ve Been Isn’t Where I’m Going to No. 5 on the Billboard 200 (and No. 2 on the Country Albums chart), and caps the setlist for his ongoing tour for the album. Shaboozey Delivers Live Performance Of “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” In Vevo Studios

Screenshot 2024 09 06 at 11.39.01 PM

Vevo, the world’s leading music video network, announces the release of Shaboozey’s live performance of “A Bar Song (Tipsy),” off his album Where I’ve Been, Isn’t Where I’m Going.

Shaboozey blends country and hip-hop genres, creating songs that feel as epic as a movie; gripping, unpredictable, immense in scope but rooted in raw emotion. On his new album, Where I’ve Been, Isn’t Where I’m Going, Shaboozey charts a cinematic road trip through the wilds of the American West, bringing a powerful new depth to his storytelling whilst pushing further into the country/folk-inspired sound he’s explored in recent years.

Originally from Northern Virginia, Shaboozey pulls inspiration from other DMV artists like Missy Elliot, Pharell and Timbaland. After a decade of perfecting his sound, Shaboozey skyrocketed to the mainstream after being featured in two songs on Beyonce’s Cowboy Carter album: “Sweet Honey Buckiin” and “Spaghetti.” His album, Where I’ve Been, Isn’t Where I’m Going, was released shortly after, with the standout single “A Bar Song (Tipsy),” built around J-Kwon’s 2004 hit, “Tipsy.” The track most recently became the longest-running #1 single in the Hot 100 of 2024, having now been in the top spot for eight weeks and counting.

“I’ve been doing music for such a long time, I’ve put a lot of time and years into it,” Shaboozey said in a recent interview, “I put so much into it that I feel like it’s just cool to see it working. Everybody hopes it works. To see it actually working, it’s unreal.”

On Vevo, Shaboozey has garnered over 147 million global views in 2024 so far, with the official video for “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” currently Vevo’s #1 most-viewed country video this year.
