Kanye West Put On Blast By Donna Summer’s Estate For Alleged Copyright Infringement

Following months of teasing, Kanye West has finally dropped his eagerly-anticipated album with Ty Dolla Sign, Vultures 1. The Vultures project is expected to arrive in three installments, and the other two are scheduled to drop in March and April. While in general, the album has been a success so far, not everybody is feeling it. The latest critics to come forward were from Donna Summer’s estate, and they accuse Ye of using her song without permission.

In a recent Story post from Summer’s official Instagram account, the estate claims that Ye had asked to use the late performer’s song “I Feel Love,” and was denied. They note that he changed up a few things before using it on his album. Regardless, they allege that it’s “copyright infringement.”

Donna Summer’s Estate Claims Ye Asked For Permission, Was Denied

Unfortunately, this isn’t the first time Ye’s been put on blast for allegedly using another artist’s work without permission. It’s not even the first time this week. Yesterday, Ozzy Osbourne took to Twitter/X to call him out for using a sample of Black Sabbath’s “War Pigs” when he was explicitly asked not to. The metal icon’s wife even jumped into the debacle to throw a few jabs at the Chicago MC. “@kanyewest ASKED PERMISSION TO SAMPLE A SECTION OF A 1983 LIVE PERFORMANCE OF ‘WAR PIG’ FROM THE US FESTIVAL WITHOUT VOCALS & WAS REFUSED PERMISSION BECAUSE HE IS AN ANTISEMITE AND HAS CAUSED UNTOLD HEARTACHE TO MANY,” Ozzy wrote. “HE WENT AHEAD AND USED THE SAMPLE ANYWAY AT HIS ALBUM LISTENING PARTY LAST NIGHT. I WANT NO ASSOCIATION WITH THIS MAN!”

As for Sharon, she called Kanye a “pig,” and claimed that he “represents hate.” What do you think of Donna Summer’s estate calling out Kanye West? What about his new album with Ty Dolla Sign, Vultures 1? Share your thoughts in the comments section down below, and keep an eye on HNHH for more updates.

Kanye West Revisits Ozzy & Sharon Osbourne Halloween Costumes After Uncleared Sample Roast

Yesterday, Kanye West and Ty Dolla Sign hosted a listening party in Chicago for their upcoming album, Vultures. While attendees were glad to get a taste of what’s to come ahead of the release, not everybody was pleased. Earlier today, Ozzy Osbourne slammed Ye on Twitter/X, claiming that he used his sample when he explicitly told him he didn’t have permission.

“[He] WAS REFUSED PERMISSION BECAUSE HE IS AN ANTISEMITE AND HAS CAUSED UNTOLD HEARTACHE TO MANY,” Ozzy explained. Shortly after Ozzy’s post, his wife Sharon jumped into the debacle, similarly blasting Ye for his use of the sample. “Kanye f***ed with the wrong Jew this time,” she told TMZ, also calling him a “pig” who “represents hate.”

Kanye West Reacts To Ozzy Osbourne Calling Him Out

Clearly, neither of them was thrilled to be associated with Kanye, or so it seems. In response to their comments, Ye recently took to social media to remind fans of their 2023 Halloween costumes. Ozzy dressed up as Kanye while Sharon dressed up as his wife, Bianca Censori. He posted a screenshot of a text conversation with an unknown individual, which included of photo of Ozzy and Sharon in their costumes. “He obviously has a celebrity handler who’s on his account,” the unknown person wrote.

Ye then reposted a fan’s Tweet about DJ Roca’s response to being sampled by him, seeming to imply that Ozzy should be grateful. Some fans think he and Sharon’s costumes suggest that they were fans of Ye, at least at some point. Others argue that they simply “think he’s ridiculous.” What do you think of Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne putting Kanye West on blast for using a sample without permission? What about Ye responding by posting a photo of their Halloween costumes? Share your thoughts in the comments section down below, and keep an eye on HNHH for more updates.

Sharon Osbourne Calls Kanye West A “Pig” Amid Uncleared Sample Drama

Yesterday, Kanye West and Ty Dolla Sign hosted a listening party for their new album Vultures in Chicago. Unfortunately, quite a few technical difficulties ensued, and eventually, the livestream cut out. It’s rumored that it was cut because of one of Ye’s questionable bars. Others think it simply ended because the show went on longer than expected.

Fans weren’t the only ones disappointed by the listening party, however. Earlier today, Ozzy Osbourne took to Twitter/X to put Ye on blast, accusing him of using a sample of Black Sabbath’s “War Pigs” without his permission. “@kanyewest ASKED PERMISSION TO SAMPLE A SECTION OF A 1983 LIVE PERFORMANCE OF ‘WAR PIG’ FROM THE US FESTIVAL WITHOUT VOCALS & WAS REFUSED PERMISSION BECAUSE HE IS AN ANTISEMITE AND HAS CAUSED UNTOLD HEARTACHE TO MANY,” he wrote. “HE WENT AHEAD AND USED THE SAMPLE ANYWAY AT HIS ALBUM LISTENING PARTY LAST NIGHT. Ozzy’s obviously not happy, and neither is his wife Sharon, according to TMZ. She recently told the outlet that “Kanye f***ed with the wrong Jew this time.” Sharon says that Ye reached out three weeks ago to ask for permission to use the sample. She claims that their reply was, “Absolutely not.” She adds that it’s rare for Ozzy to turn these kinds of things down, but he had a “special f***ing occasion to say no.”

“The motherf***er’s a pig,” she said, also dubbing Ye “a disrespectful antisemite” and claiming that he “represents hate.” According to Sharon, she and her husband have sent Ye a cease and desist, and want nothing to do with him moving forward. What do you think of Ozzy Osbourne putting Kanye West on blast for playing an uncleared sample during his Vultures listening party? What about Sharon Osbourne’s response to the debacle? Kid Cudi Samples Old XXXTENTACION Track On “INSANO”: Fans React

Kid Cudi’s new album INSANO has plenty of notable collaborations across its creative tracklist, but fans were particularly excited for one. However, when they tuned into the track “X & CUD,” they found that the XXXTENTACION “feature” was just a sample of his 2017 song “Orlando,” which is off his album 17. Some fans expressed strong disappointment in this, appreciating the gesture but feeling cheated and exploited with how the collaboration was announced. On the other hand, some listeners referred to the late Florida rapper’s producer John Cunningham, who indicated via Twitter on Monday (January 8) that this would a sample of a previously released track and not a brand-new feature.

Furthermore, a lot of fans think people overreacted, bu understandably so, given the vague nature of these announcements. After all, XXXTENTACION’s work has been exploited far too much already for morbid profit, which is why many fans are so hesitant to celebrate new music to the fullest. At the same time, though, this is Kid Cudi’s way of paying homage and making a tribute rather than fully collaborating, which is clear now that we can listen to the track in its full context. Back in 2021, the Cleveland creative expressed regret at never getting the chance to work with him or another artist gone far too soon, Juice WRLD.

Kid Cudi’s INSANO Samples Old XXXTENTACION Song

Meanwhile, this isn’t the only hot topic of conversation surrounding Kid Cudi’s new studio offering’s host of features. A$AP Rocky also ruffled some feathers by potentially issuing a response to Drake’s alleged disses towards him and his boo– and their romantic overlap– Rihanna. Of course, this is purely speculative, but it’s pretty hard not to read between the lines when Pretty Flacko talks about a “mandrake.” We’ll see whether either MC responds to this in some way.

Fans React To “X & CUD”

Not only that, but we also have a deluxe version of INSANO to look forward to in the near future. If you’re curious, check out more reactions to this X “feature” above. French Montana Scores “Technical Win” In Copyright Case

Earlier this year, French Montana was hit with a copyright infringement lawsuit from up-and-coming hip-hop artist Hotwire The Producer, born Eddie Lee Richardson. Richardson accused the performer of sampling him on “Ain’t Worried About Nothin’” without permission, seeking $5 million. Luckily for French Montana, he beat the case earlier this week, but the judge’s ruling came alongside some shady comments.

Illinois federal Judge Nancy L. Maldonado dismissed the suit, providing Richardson with a few words of encouragement. According to her, French Montana merely took home a “technical win,” and says that he “should not claim [it] as a substantive victory.”

Judge Claims “Imitation Is The Sincerest Form Of Flattery”

French Montana Scores “Technical Win" In Copyright Case

“If it is any consolation, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, and the Court hopes that Richardson will not be deterred in his musical endeavors, now armed with a better understanding of copyright law,” Maldonado explains in her ruling. “As it is, though, Richardson’s evidence in this particular case is insufficient to establish copyright infringement.”

“Unfortunately for Richardson, his express admission in this case that he has only a sound recording copyright, and not one for a musical composition, means that he does not have exclusive rights in the generic sounds or melodies of HPW,” she adds. Maldonado insists that had Richardson registered for copyright of his musical composition, her ruling “might have been very different.” She claims that “In that case, Richardson’s expert evidence as to the similarity of the ‘sounds’ or melodies of the songs likely would have been enough to send this case to trial… But with a sound recording registration only, Richardson’s means for establishing infringement are much more limited.” What do you think of French Montana winning his copyright case? What about the judge’s comments? Share your thoughts in the comments section down below, and keep an eye on HNHH for more updates.

Chaka Khan Apologizes To Kanye West For “Silly Grudge” Over Sped-Up Vocal Sample

Chaka Khan just got inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, a deserving accolade for such a superstar. Thus, she reflected on her career highlights, personal experiences, and so much more during a recent interview with Rolling Stone. What will probably prove to be of most interest to hip-hop fans is the singer’s assessment of her relationship with Kanye West. For those unaware, he sampled her track “Through The Fire” on his first-ever single “Through The Wire,” something that she critiqued for many years since. Now, though, it seems like it’s all water under the bridge.

“To clarify something, the reason you were annoyed with Kanye West about ‘Through the Wire’ is that he asked to use your sampled voice, but didn’t make it clear that it’d be sped up, right?” the publication asked. “Yeah. And you know, that was my fault, too, for feeling salty about that in any way,” Chaka Khan responded. “Because if I understood the rap game more completely, like I do now, then that wouldn’t have been a big deal to me. No, I’m done [having it bother me]. Please. I’m not hanging on to any silly grudges.”

Kanye West & Chaka Khan Perform “Through The Wire” In 2004: Watch

Of course, Kanye West is no stranger to sampling issues, whether from an artistic standpoint or actually clearing it. Most recently, that’s what’s happening with his song “Everybody” off his yet-to-be-released collab album with Ty Dolla $ign, Vultures. The song samples The Backstreet Boys, and it looks like the publishers in charge of the sampled record refuse to give the rights over as of writing this article. It’s just one of many ways in which this album rollout turned chaotic. We still doubt it will ever see the light of day.

Meanwhile, Ye isn’t just receiving apologies from a legend; he’s also giving them. Everyone has a different take on his apology in Hebrew to the Jewish community for his antisemitic remarks. While some are forgiving and others don’t buy it for a millisecond, at least it’s better than complete silence. Boosie Badazz Rants About Rod Wave On IG Live

During a recent Instagram Live, fans asked Boosie Badazz if he would be attending Rod Wave’s show in Atlanta amid their ongoing beef. For obvious reasons, the Louisiana native wasn’t, but threw a bit of shade his way before changing the subject. According to him, Rod Wave offered to “pull up,” but ultimately decided to pay a lawyer instead.

The two artists’ beef first began when Boosie called Rod Wave out for allegedly sampling his song without paying him during another Instagram Live. “Can’t let you just take my sh*t and I’m not getting nothing,” he said. “I just want my split, you know, my cut … I ain’t mad, I love when they do that sh*t.” Things only escalated when he took to Twitter to continue his rant, prompting a response from Rod Wave.

Boosie Badazz Throws Shade At Rod Wave

“On my momma Boosie,” he said. “Big bra I fw ya tell me a real number. Yeen even gotta do all dat tell me a number ima pull [up] and bring it to you!!” At that point, however, it was too late. Boosie went on to tease what sounds like a Rod Wave diss track, taking the tension to a new level. Rod Wave later denied stealing the song, and even threatened to quit music altogether. Boosie didn’t let up, eventually announcing a lawsuit.

“Hell no, that n***a Rod Wave ain’t pull up on me,” he told fans. “I don’t own the song fully, I own a percentage of it. I still have publishing in it and writer’s credits. So, I guess when he found out that, he don’t want to give me nothing. We going to court. Nobody contacted me. Nobody gave me my publishing. Nobody gave me my writer’s credit. How you clear it, when you ain’t clear it with me?” What do you think of Boosie Badazz throwing shade at Rod Wave during his recent Instagram Live? What about their ongoing beef? Dionne Warwick Says Doja Cat Never Reached Out For Sample As She Makes It Clap In Bathrobe

As one of the biggest and most acclaimed hits of the year, it was very hard to avoid Doja Cat’s “Paint The Town Red” in 2023. However, it seems like the song’s point of inspiration never even heard about what the song wanted to do before it actually came out. Moreover, Dionne Warwick recently appeared on The Kelly Clarkson Show and spoke about how the rapper and singer sampled her hit “Walk On By” in the chart-topper. At one point, she recalled not even knowing that Doja wanted to record that song, at which point Clarkson brought up that they probably had to ask permission to clear the sample.

Then, Warwick said that she didn’t hear anything about clearing the sample, but still showed love to the song and thanked Doja Cat for introducing her work to a whole new generation. As such, it seems like there are no hard feelings here about this song becoming so huge, even if the 82-year-old was a bit out of the loop. Of course, it’s entirely possible that this sample clearance occurred between each artist’s teams and not between them personally. We might never know for sure, but the important thing is that this is an amicable relationship.

Dionne Warwick On “Paint The Town Red” Sample: Watch

Funnily enough, given that she’s such a legend in music, it’s no surprise that this wasn’t Dionne Warwick’s first hip-hop crossover. Her other famous one is much different, though, as it involves her reprimanding Snoop Dogg and his crew about their lyrics. “We were kind of, like, scared and shook up,” Tha Doggfather told CNN about her words. “We’re powerful right now, but she’s been powerful forever: thirty-some years in the game, in the big home with a lot of money and success. We were the most gangster as you could be, but that day at Dionne Warwick’s house, I believe we got out-gangstered that day. I made it a point to put out records of joy. Dionne, I hope I became the jewel that you saw when I was the little, dirty rock that was in your house. I hope I’m making you proud.”

Meanwhile, the Scarlet hitmaker hasn’t commented on this, but she did show how she can make it clap with no hands. It’s been nice to see her having fun online amid a lot of busy movement. While Doja recently apologized for a lackluster concert on tour, hopefully the rest of it picks up with grace and excitement. For more on Dionne Warwick and Doja Cat, log back into HNHH.

Boosie Badazz Unleashes On Rod Wave Even Further For Sample Clearance Issues

Boosie Badazz isn’t done with Rod Wave just yet, as he had some additional words for him on Sunday (November 19). Moreover, he took to Twitter to blast the Florida native further for sampling a song of his without the proper clearance. While Wave has yet to respond to this as of writing this article, this might be the kind of issue that gets resolved behind closed doors. Even then, we’re sure we’ll hear about how it went down at some point or another from the Baton Rouge rapper. In his latest message, he even invoked other musical legends in his argument, seemingly comparing himself to the likes of Prince.

“HOW IS IT FOUL?” Boosie began his latest rant on the social media platform. “ITS BUIZNESS N YOU KNOW THAT. YOU AINT GO DO THAT TO NO OTHER MAJOR LABEL WITHOUT COMPENSATING THEM WITH THEY SPLITS!! WHY DO IT TO A N***A YOU LOOKED UP [TO]. U EXPECT ME TO LET U TAKE MY KIDS PUBLISHING GTFOH STOP PLAYING VICTIM MY N***A. IS U GO SAMPLE NO LIMIT, BAD BOY, CASH MONEY, SO SO DEF, MICHAEL JACKSON, MARVIN GAYE, [OR] PRINCE WORD FOR WORD FOR FREE? NO @rodwave.”

Still, it’s also entirely possible that this won’t be the most contentious “tribute” that the 41-year-old deals with this week. For example, he accused Kodak Black of also copying a song of his for his recently released track “Eaze Your Mind.” “DAM @kodakblack EVEN THO WE FELL OUT WE COULDA DID FAIR BUIZNESS #justbuizness,” Boosie tweeted. “Kodak…” he added in a video to social media. “I ain’t trippin’. On my kids, bro, you gotta respect it, man. I ain’t trippin’, y’all trippin’. Stay tuned. I’ll be posting more in six hours.”

Meanwhile, given that his T.I. collab album won’t pan out, we’re sure that Badazz would be very happy to work with others right now. But if that arrangement doesn’t come with the proper splits, respect, and permission, then it won’t slide easy. We’ll see how else he escalates the situation, if at all, and whether the two accused artists respond. For more news and the latest updates on Boosie and Rod Wave, come back to HNHH.
