Roddy Ricch & Terrace Martin Will Blow You Away With “Lonely Road”

Roddy Ricch has some fans questioning just what the heck is going on right now. Today, the California rapper was supposed to deliver his long-awaited third studio album, THE NAVY ALBUM. However, that is not the case, as instead he let fans know across his social media platforms that it will be ready by 2025. “THE NAVY ALBUM 🐺 2025.” There was additional explanation as to why this is now the case, but Apple Music says it will be out on February 21. The project is going to contain 16 tracks, and interestingly, “911” is not listed as one of the singles.

Instead, “Survivor’s Remorse” and “Lonely Road” with producer Terrace Martin are the only certified inclusions. The latter is essentially an apology for the album not arriving today, but it’s much more than a consolation prize. In fact, we feel this could be Roddy Ricch’s best song yet. This future closing track hears him continue on similar themes from “Survivor’s Remorse” about his growth and struggles. However, instead of feeling uneasy at times, he’s thankful for the obstacles he’s gone through. Turbo also has his imprints on this cut, but it’s not what you traditionally get from him. Roddy expressively and passionately spits over a drum-less beat with Martin absolutely killing with the saxophone. It blew us away and we feel it will do the same to you.

“Lonely Road” – Roddy Ricch & Terrace Martin

Quotable Lyrics:

Been a whole lot of choices, I been hearin’ Satan
He been speakin’ in voices, I’m tryna forsake him
Been on a lonely road so long (Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah)
Still tryna find my way back home (Oh, oh, oh, oh)
Doggy, these streets got me scarred (Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah)
Streets got a n**** wondering, when will my day come?

Roddy Ricch Unexpectedly Delays ‘The Navy Album’ Right As It Was Supposed To Be Released

Roddy Ricch has made December his own in recent years: He released his hit debut album Please Excuse Me For Being Antisocial on December 6, 2019, then dropped Live Life Fast on December 17, 2021. He was set to keep the streak going with The Navy Album, which was scheduled for release today (December 6).

However, it appears something has happened, as today is the 6th and there’s no sign of Ricch’s album. It turns out the project has been officially delayed: In an Instagram post shared early this morning, Ricch posted the project’s cover art and wrote, “THE NAVY ALBUM [wolf emoji] 2025.”

Apple Music currently lists the project as having a scheduled release date of February 21, 2025. The page also reveals the album will have 16 tracks, including “Survivor’s Remorse” and the just-released “Lonely Road.”

Back in June, Ricch told Apple Music about The Navy Album, “I mean, I feel like I’m just getting back to my roots of taking my time, being real lethal with my injection, if I will. Just trying to really just give it everything I got and being vulnerable as I can to my fans, allowing them into my life. They going to get a real experience, almost like a soundtrack, a movie experience of what my life is like. I’m really excited, bro.”

Roddy Ricch Has Guardian Angels In His Grateful ‘Lonely Road’ Video With Terrace Martin

After spending a few years out of the spotlight in the wake of the lukewarm reception of his second album, Uproxx cover star Roddy Ricch has returned with The Navy Album. With songs like “Survivor’s Remorse” setting the tone earlier this year, Roddy continues in a spirit of gratitude in the video for “Lonely Road” featuring fellow LA-area resident, Terrace Martin.

While Martin lays the scene with a mournful sax solo, Roddy contemplates how far he’s come and prays for protection as he continues to pursue his dreams. The video makes his prayers literal, surrounding him with guardian angels as he drives through the neighborhood where he grew up and ranges out into the wider LA area.

As a Compton native, Roddy has been loving the Los Angeles Renaissance that has taken place in 2024, celebrating the success of Tyler The Creator’s Chromakopia and joining Kendrick Lamar on his own surprise album, GNX, appearing as a guest star on “Dodger Blue.” In addition, 2024 marks the fifth anniversary of the release of his chart-topping debut album, Please Excuse Me For Being Antisocial. So, as his new album drops, Roddy will be celebrating the anniversary with a special concert at the Palladium in Hollywood.

Roddy Ricch’s Grammy Award Has Seemingly Been Returned After A YouTuber Unknowingly Purchased It At Auction

Despite folks’ feelings towards the Grammy Awards, it remains music’s most coveted ceremony. Many industry professionals dream of the day when they take home a gramophone trophy. But Roddy Ricch’s win has morphed into a nightmare.

The “Survivors Remorse” rapper found himself in an awkward professional position after his trophy fell into the hands of a YouTuber. According to the creator behind Prieto Hunters, he bought an abandoned storage unit for $280. Once he examined the contents of the unit he discovered Roddy Ricch’s trophy.

But yesterday (December 2), the content creator posted another clip (viewable here) returning it seemingly to a member of Ricch’s team.

Prior to the on camera meetup, Ricch and the YouTuber slang accusations at one another. During a live stream (viewable here), Ricch slammed the YouTuber for attempting to extort over the milestone, especially considering its heavy sentimental value. Ricch’s sole Grammy win was in 2020 win for Best Rap Performance with his late friend and mentor Nipsey Hussle and Hit-Boy for their song “Racks in the Middle.”

“First he asked me for an [Audemars Piguet],” he said. “Then he asked me for $50,000. So, it was never about ‘Oh, we’re going to do it on just the strength of trying to get it back to you.’ It was more so about a n***** trying to get clout off it or a n***** trying to extort me for $50,000.”

The YouTuber rebutted Ricch’s claim, saying: “I wish I got offered that, but I did not get offered no 10k no nothing I returned it at no cost and I want nothing to do with them not even tickets you guys have no idea what actually went down, but I have no more comments.”

Well, with this ordeal behind him, Roddy Ricch can focus all of his attention on the Please Excuse Me For Being Antisocial anniversary show slated for December 6.

Roddy Ricch Claims YouTuber Tried To Extort Him Over Lost Grammy

Roddy Ricch has had a strange start to the month. The rapper planned to rollout his new release, The Navy Album, but he’s instead been drawn into a controversy involving a misplaced Grammy. Ricch won the prestigious award for Best Rap Performance in 2020. He lost track of it, however, after a storage unit owned by an assistant was mismanaged. A California YouTuber recently stumbled upon the unit and the Grammy. Unfortunately, Roddy Ricch claimed his transaction with the YouTuber went very poorly.

Roddy Ricch hopped on Instagram Live on December 2 to update his fans on the Grammy situation. There was a general sense of confusion when the YouTuber, Prieto Hunters, posted about the storage unit and the Grammy on his account. Ricch claimed that he got in touch with Hunters, but the latter tried to use the situation to his advantage. Hunters claimed to have purchased the storage unit for only $280, and Ricch offered to pay $10K for the Grammy’s return. The YouTuber, however, wanted much more than that. He boosted the asking price to a whopping $50K.

Roddy Ricch Was Annoyed By The YouTuber’s Antics

“First he asked me for an AP, then he asked me for $50,000,” Roddy Ricch told his fans. “So it was never about ‘Oh we’re going to do it on just the strength of trying to get it back to you.” All that type of s**t,” the rapper told his fans. “It was more so about a n**ga trying to get some clout off it or a n**ga trying to basically extort me for $50,000.” The two men agreed on a price and met up at a California police station. Once again, Ricch was annoyed by Prieto Hunters’ antics. The rapper claimed that the YouTuber showed up to the police station with “two cops and three n**gas with cameras.”

Roddy Ricch won the Grammy for his joint single “Racks In the Middle” alongside the late Nipsey Hussle. He told Variety that he was incredibly humbled by the win, but admitted it was bittersweet given Hussle’s passing. “It just had a street impact,” he told the outlet. “It was organically moving through the streets, so that’s how I feel it initially gained its popularity. Then it just spread like wildfire. It’s a bittersweet thing as far as a Grammy, but it’s a good thing.” Despite the headache and cost, we’re glad that Roddy Ricch has his Grammy statue back.

Roddy Ricch Is Celebrating Five Years Of ‘Please Excuse Me For Being Antisocial’ With An ‘Anniversary Experience’

Please Excuse Me For Being Antisocial was a career-making moment for Roddy Ricch, as his debut album went No. 1 and spawned the chart-topping single “The Box.” The 2019 album turns five years old next month, so Ricch is celebrating: Today (November 12), he announced a “5 year anniversary experience” set for December 6 at the Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles.

As for tickets, there’s an artist pre-sale starting on November 13 at 10 a.m. PT and ending on November 14 at 10 p.m. PT. The password to access that is “NAVYERA.” That will be followed by the general on-sale, which starts on November 15 at 10 a.m. PT. There are some additional pre-sales as well, and more information can be found here.

Also on December 6, Ricch is set to release his third album, The Navy Album.

In his 2022 Uproxx cover story, Ricch talked about what he learned from his early career, saying, “A lot of times, you may get distracted by trying to rekindle relationships with different things. I feel like just what I learned is just sometimes, even if it’s broke, sometimes it’s just better not to deal with certain things or don’t let certain things bother you — everything’s not going to be perfect. Sometimes when you sit down and think about a lot of sh*t, you try to make everything perfect, and I feel like the thing I learned is it’s okay to not be perfect. There’s perfect in imperfection.”

Roddy Ricch Will Continue His End-Of-Year Trend With ‘The Navy Album’ Coming In December

Over the past few years, December has been Roddy Ricch season. He released his chart-topping debut album Please Excuse Me For Being Antisocial on December 6, 2019, then followed it with Live Life Fast on December 17, 2021. Now, he’s getting ready to keep the streak alive.

Last night (October 29), Ricch gave Tyler The Creator a shout-out over his new album, Chromakopia, tweeting, “CHROMAKOPIA [fire emoji] ! @tylerthecreator WEST UP , MY TURN !” A few hours later, he followed that up with, “THE NAVY ALBUM THE 6TH OF DECEMBER.”

Ricch might be looking for The Navy Album to be a bounce-back project. Please Excuse Me For Being Antisocial was No. 1 and so was the hit single “The Box,” but he didn’t manage to replicate that success with Live Life Fast. The album only managed a No. 4 peak on the Billboard 200 chart, and the closest thing to a hit single it produced was 2021’s “Late At Night,” which peaked at No. 20 on the Hot 100, and is actually his most recent single to even appear on that chart.

In his 2022 Uproxx cover story, Ricch discussed his biggest takeaway from the first part of his career, saying, “A lot of times, you may get distracted by trying to rekindle relationships with different things.

Roddy Ricch Announces Release Date For “The Navy Album”

Roddy Ricch exploded onto the scene in the late 2010s. The rapper scored a number one single with “The Box,” but has struggled to maintain this high standard. His second album, Live Life Fast, failed to generate any hits, and it’s been years since he was even featured on a notable single. Roddy Ricch is planning to make a comeback, however. The rapper confirmed that his new album, The Navy Album, is on the way. and he promises that it will keep the West Coast winning streak of 2024 going.

Tellingly, Roddy Ricch build up hype for The Navy Album by referencing another West Coast artist. Tyler, The Creator took over the music world when he dropped CHROMAKOPIA on Monday. Ricch showed love to Tyler, while at the same time claiming to be the next artist up. “CHROMAKOPIA,” he wrote. “Tyler, The Creator. West up, my turn!” A few hours later, Roddy Ricch confirmed that The Navy Blue was arriving this December. “The Navy Album,” he tweeted. “The 6th of December.” The rapper has been hinting at the album’s release for most of 2024. He even told Grunge Cake that it will signify a return to his roots.

Roddy Ricch Also Showed Love To Tyler, The Creator

“I feel like I’m just getting back to my roots of taking my time, being real lethal with my injection,” Ricch stated. “Just trying to really just give it everything I got and being vulnerable as I can to my fans, allowing them into my life.” Roddy Ricch likened The Navy Album to a film soundtrack, and promised that it will be an experience that his listeners will be able to apply to their own lives. “I just always be creating,” he said. “That’s just my safe haven, a way to express myself and keep myself fresh.”

Roddy Ricch has more in common with Tyler, The Creator than West Coast origins. Both were onstage during the now legendary “Pop Out” show on Juneteenth. They performed some of their biggest songs and voiced their support for Kendrick Lamar in the Drake battle. Ricch humbled himself as a performer in comparison to the likes of Tyler and Kendrick, but he insisted that his music connects with fans on an emotional level. “I just try to give it up my all every time,” he asserted. “And even in the hype moments, I try to give my all.” We can’t wait to hear this effort on December 6.

As of this writing, Kendrick Lamar has yet to take the stage for his The Pop Out — Ken & Friends set at Kia Forum in Los Angeles on Wednesday, June 19, but the Juneteenth celebration has already been a star-studded event. DJ Hed opened the show and welcomed out a slew of guests, including Ray Vaughn, Westside Boogie, Bino Rideaux, and BlueBucksClan. Mustard was up next and took it to another level.

The acclaimed DJ & producer brought out Blxst, Ty Dolla Sign, Dom Kennedy, Steve Lacy, and Tyler The Creator before taking a moment to honor the late Nipsey Hussle. The Jumbotron displayed a photo of the beloved rapper alongside “RIP NIP: THE MARATHON CONTINUES.” Mustard played “Perfect Ten,” the title track from his platinum-certified 2019 album. The song featured Hussle. The crowd predictably erupted, and Mustard said, “Make some noise so loud that Nipsey Hussle can hear you” before playing Hussle’s “Last Time That I Checc’d” featuring YG.

Kia Forum got even louder when Roddy Ricch joined Mustard on stage to perform “Racks In The Middle,” Hussle’s 2019 song featuring Ricch and Hit-Boy.

Hussle was fatally shot on March 31, 2019, while visiting his Marathon clothing store in South LA. He was 33.
