REASON Says Heated Moosa Interview Wasn’t A “Rollout Move” For New Album

In the age of social media, it’s not uncommon to see celebrities pull off PR stunts to draw more attention to their projects. Cardi B and Offset is a great example of a couple who have intentionally turned their real-life drama into cold-hard cash thanks to the internet. Of course, there are also those who accidentally go viral while promoting their work, such as TDE’s REASON. The lyricist revealed earlier this summer that his next LP, Porches, is due out this coming New Music Friday (August 11).

During his customary round of press interviews, the 32-year-old got to talking about some of the artists he’s collaborating with on the album, also revealing that some features – specifically with Latto and EST Gee – fell through, seemingly as a result of his label’s slacking. Before long, TDE co-president Moosa got on the line, and he was quick to assert that they weren’t sure about signing REASON in the first place. Some assumed that the feud was all an attempt to stir up streams for the project, but on Tuesday (August 8) morning, the “Extinct” artist shut that down.

REASON is Keeping the Energy Positive Ahead of PORCHES

“I appreciate [people] that’s reached out to me,” he tweeted today. “Trust, I’m as good as I can be. We’ll have a real convo at some point about what happened, just trust that wasn’t a ‘rollout move’ lol. That actually happened! All positive energy as of now moving forward tho. ‘Porches’ Friday! Love y’all!” REASON concluded his update.

Prior to his heated discussion with Moosa, REASON took time in another recent interview to clear up any gossip about his past beef with Logic. While the two seemingly took shots at each other on past releases, the West Coast native says he didn’t see his initial bars about being compared to the father of two as a diss, but rather, simply speaking the truth. Reason Got Into A Heated Back And Forth With TDE’s President Moosa, Who Clowned The Rapper For His Label Comments

Artists and their labels have never traditionally gotten along all that great, but sometimes, the struggle between art and commerce boils over, leading to public outbursts and occasionally even legal action. This has especially been the case for indie label Top Dawg Entertainment, courtesy of a tendency to sign ornery, outspoken artists who aren’t afraid to vent their frustrations with the label like SZA or take their time recording new music like Isaiah Rashad.

And while TDE has been pretty patient in the past, leading to some of the more successful releases in recent years like albums from the aforementioned artists and former artist Kendrick Lamar, apparently, even they have limits. Moosa Tiffith, son of the titular Top Dawg and one of the managers at the label, finally reached his during a live interview with Del Amo rapper Reason, calling in during the rapper’s appearance to refute his complaints live.

During Reason’s appearance on the podcast BACKONFIGG, he vented about the rollout for his upcoming album, Porches, saying, “We had certain features lined up that could’ve went through. We had the budget, we had the feature lined up, takes too long to get pushed through, feature price ended up going up or something goes away. Content ideas lined up, not executed. Rollout ideas lined up, not executed.” Reason specifically pointed to an attempt to secure a feature from EST Gee, but before it could be finalized, the Louisville rapper had released a song with Future, increasing his popularity and driving up the feature price.

When Moosa called in, though, things got heated as the manager asserted that former co-president, Dave Free, didn’t even want to sign Reason, who he called a “substitute teacher.” He also challenged the show’s hosts to name 10 Reason songs, and mocked the rapper when they couldn’t. “Dave never wanted us to sign Reason,” Moosa declared. “He called him a substitute teacher. Dot only said Reason had talent, but it’s gon’ take more than just talent in this game right now and everybody know that.”

TDE’s Reason Announced The Release Date For His Second Album, ‘Porches,’ Featuring Baby Tate, Doechii, And More

Top Dawg Entertainment has entered a new era. With Kendrick Lamar out of his deal, Jay Rock and Schoolboy Q still in the lab, and completed album cycles for Ab-Soul, Isaiah Rashad, and SZA, it’s time for the next generation of TDE artists to step into the spotlight and shine. They are already well on their way; Doechii’s “What It Is” is a viral hit, and now, Reason is prepping his second album after a successful debut with New Beginnings in 2020.

The new album, Porches, is due for an August 11 release and features guest appearances from both fellow TDE artists like Doechii, Ray Vaughn, SiR, and Zacari, and rising stars like Baby Tate and Kalan.FrFr. Reason also shared a nostalgic trailer, the cover art, and tracklist for the project on social media. In a press release, Reason said, “My first album was for the fans. I wanted to give them everything they wanted as a thank you for the support they’ve given. At this moment in my life I needed a lot of love and understanding. Going through the things I went through, those are the two things I needed the most. While I was searching for that, I decided to give an album that spoke to that. Porches is about love and understanding. We’re all connected. We all go through similar trials and battles. I think we can all use more understanding and love throughout that process.”

Porches is due on 8/11 via TDE.

Rapper Reason Has An ’Endearing’ And ‘Respectful’ Marketing Request For Janelle Monae To Help With His Rollout

Janelle Monae is in their self-renaissance era and no clothing is required. After a clip of them dancing on the top of a bar following the 2023 Met Gala and another of her flashing fans during a performance, the “” singer has been the talk of the town. As they prepare for the release of their forthcoming album, The Age Of Pleasure, TDE’s Reason has a special marketing request for them.

Taking to Instagram, Reason sent a voice note to Monae to ask to “borrow” their boobs for his upcoming music rollout. In an audio clip uploaded to Instagram, the “Barely Miss” rapper says, “Hey Queen. Um, I just wanted to ask respectfully, in the most endearing respectful way, I want to know if I can borrow ya titties for my rollout. I know this is asking a lot, but I’ve seen what your titties did for your rollout and I’m in need.”

He continued, “I’m in need of help for content every single day, Tik Tok, the algorithm is changing, the label wants me to go viral and I saw, it’s a very nice pair of titties also by the way, I saw what those titties did for you, but I was just wondering if you had a daily fee for your titties for my rollout. Um, let me know. I hope you don’t take this any type of way. Just a business transaction. All love. Respect to you queen.”

Reason’s message has not yet garnered a response from Monae. So, in a follow-up post, Reason opened up the offer to anyone willing to partake.

Monae has made it clear that their body and how they use their body to express themselves for social liberation not for the male gaze.
