The Memphis Grizzlies suspended superstar Ja Morant on Sunday, pending an NBA investigation. It came as a result of, for the second time in 2023, Morant appearing on Instagram Live with a gun. The first time occurred in March at a Denver nightclub. That incident led to an eight-game suspension for Morant. The second, which went viral on social on May 13, appeared to occur while Morant was cruising with longtime friend Davonte Pack. Morant has since released a statement about the incident.

The NBA world, and beyond, has reacted to the news of Morant’s suspension. While he has had support in one form or another from the likes of JJ Redick and BlocBoy JB, many of the reactions have been negative. Stephen Jackson called him a “moron” while Stephen A. Smith said that Morant is “more associated with guns than he is with winning.” Meanwhile, Kwame Brown called him the “stupidest mfer in the league.”

Vic Mensa Hopes Morant Overcomes

The latest figure to share their take on the situation is rapper Vic Mensa, who was interviewed by TMZ in New York. Mensa’s take focused more on supporting Morant than actively discussing the situation. “I think God blessed Ja Morant, man,” Mensa told TMZ. “I pray that that brother gets it together and he figures it out because he’s too brilliant and so talented. He’s got a gift, he’s got a real gift. So, I don’t want to see him have to go down that path because he’s so good. I think God blessed him,” he continued. “I’m not gonna say anything to disparage him. There’s enough people doing that.”

It’s unclear how severely Morant will be punished for this latest incident. There were two aspects to Silver’s reaction – shock and disappointment. “We talked directly about the consequences first,” Silver told ESPN on Tuesday, in regard to Morant’s original suspension. “Before we got to a subsequent potential to have done something wrong, we were very focused on the misconduct that was in front of us at the time. Frankly, most of our conversation was about how incredibly serious the first incident was of waving a firearm on social media. Again, the consequences there — an eight-game suspension — was pretty serious and something that he, at least to me, seemed to take incredibly seriously in that time. And we spoke for a long time about not just the consequences that could have on his career, but the safety issues around it.”

This background led to a frank and candid reaction from Silver about the latest incident involving Morant. “Honestly, I was shocked when I saw this weekend that video,” Silver said. “Now, we’re in the process of investigating it, and we’ll figure out exactly what happened to the best we can. Amidst his ongoing legal troubles, it appears that Jonathan Majors is getting back into the dating game. TMZ reported that Jonathan Majors and Meagan Good were in the early stages of a new relationship. According to a witness, the pair were spotted at the Alamo Drafthouse in Los Angeles last weekend.

The initial reaction to the news was fairly cool, with a number of people seeing it as nothing more than a PR move. “Meghan [sic], get out. He’s using you to get black women on his side,” one commentator wrote on TMZ‘s Instagram post. “I don’t think she can clean this up for him. He trying to get the black votes back, once he’s famous again, he will leave her,” theorizes another. Majors is facing numerous charges in relation to allegations stemming from his ex-girlfriend. Majors denies the charges but is expected back in court in June.

As the news spread, more and more fans dogpiled on the rumored couple. Earlier this month, she did just that to streamer Kai Cenat, who was unfortunately banned on Twitch for “stimulated sexual activity” while playing GTA RP during one of his shows, something that others have faced similar punishment for in the past. While it’s certainly frustrating for one of the platform’s biggest names to be unable to create content for his fans, it helped him get the attention of Minaj, who’s expressed interest in working with him.

“I’m gonna get cute. I’m gonna dress up nice and cute and I’m gonna go on Live with him,” she told listeners on Queen Radio recently. “And speak to him if that’s cool with him. Let me reach out to him and stuff because I really like him. I really like him a lot.” Elsewhere in her broadcast, Minaj publicly pleaded with Twitch to remove Cenat’s ban, which was finally lifted earlier this week.

O.J. Simpson finally spoke out concerning Jay-Z’s now iconic track, “The Story of O.J.,” which landed on his 2017 album 4:44. Moreover, blogger Augustus Lymon asked him about the track on April 7, specifically its most explicit reference to Simpson. “O.J. like, ‘I’m not black, I’m O.J.’ …okay,” Hov rapped on the song. Furthermore, the former NFL star took some issue with how simply and out of context the rapper portrayed his infamous comments on being Black. Although it was a quick interaction and a quick choice of words, O.J. gave fans the reaction that they awaited for so long.

“Well, first of all, [Jay-Z] didn’t say it right,” O.J. Simpson stated. “When Johnny [Cochran] was talking to me about it, and all that was going on was ‘Black, Black, Black,’ I said man, f**k being Black, this is me. This is about O.J. You know? “I think Jim Jones is incorrect saying that Big Sean should be ranked higher than Pusha T on a list. I am emphatically saying you could not be more wrong. If [you] love her keep her ugly ass away from me,” the Houston-born lyricist added. “She be making fake pages of me and showing up to my house every day.” Thug says that he’s “never messed with her in life,” doubling down on that by telling readers, “If y’all believed that y’all are just as crazy as her.” In the accompanying video, we see him show off his at-home security set-up, with several feeds streaming from all around his property. “It’s funny to everybody now,” the “Luxurious” hitmaker ranted.

Artists name-dropping each other on their tracks definitely isn’t anything new. Still, that doesn’t mean the celebrity at the butt of the bar is always happy to hear what’s being said about them. Most recently, it seems GloRilla is upset with Money Man over his rhyme about her on his “Saweetie” song. It landed on his first project of 2023, Red Eye, earlier this month. Of course, the “FTCU” hitmaker isn’t the only one mentioned by the 37-year-old, though she does seem to be taking it more personally than anyone else.

“Brown skin bitch, she feelin’ on my chest, she look like Saweetie / My unc’ still cookin’ dope up in the kitchen, bumpin’ Jeezy,” the quick-witted rhymer says on his chorus. On the first verse, however, is when he name-drops the southern rap diva. “Skinny bitch inside my DMs, she remind me of GloRilla / I had drew down on a fan, but he only wanted a picture,” Money Man’s noteworthy mention of her infamously petite figure goes.

I hate it.” Clearly, she’s not a fan of Money Man’s latest project, or at least not “Saweetie.”

GloRilla is undeniably slimmer than many of her contemporaries due to her decision to forego plastic surgery. However, she’s always let her confidence shine through despite trolls making nasty comments.
