Karl-Anthony Towns Says Anthony Edwards Will Be “The Next Face Of The NBA”

Karl-Anthony Edwards had high praise for his teammate Anthony Edwards this week, telling ESPN that he believed that Edwards was set to become the “next face of the NBA.” Edwards, drafted first overall in 2020, is putting up 26.3/5.2/5.3 this season as the Timberwolves dominate the Western Conference. Towns, for his part, is averaging 22.5/8.4/2.9 a game as part of the white-hot Minnesota starting five. At the time of writing, Minnesota are 39-16. Despite this, they are locked in a tight battle with the Thunder at the top of the Western Conference standings.

“It brings a smile to all of our faces. He’s one of the top players in the NBA right now. And when you mix that in with his charisma and the personality he has, that’s a huge boost,” Towns explained on First Take. Edwards is coming off the second All-Star nod of his career and is only going to get better as he continues to improve.

Anthony Edwards Gets Huge Fine For Ref Comments

Of course, not everyone is a fan of Edwards. Last month, Anthony Edwards was fined $40K for his derogatory comments aimed at the officiating crew present for the Timberwolves’ win against the Thunder earlier this week. The NBA levied the fine at the young star for “repeatedly publicly criticizing the officiating”. Edwards clearly expected it, saying that he was going to “take the fine” as he went after the refs. Despite the win, Edwards said like Wolves were playing “8-on-5” due to the lack of calls going the team’s way.

However, it’s not the first time that the NBA has gone after Edwards. Last year, he was fined $50K for throwing a chair courtside after the Wolves’ playoff elimination at the hands of the Nuggets. Despite the hefty fine, Edwards did not miss any games due to the incident. A number of staffers unsuccessfully sued Edwards over the incident, claiming to have been injured during the incident. The case was dismissed before going to trial.

Karl Anthony Towns Drops 62 in Loss, Coach Calls Out 'Immature Basketball'

Karl Anthony Towns dropped 62 points in a loss to the Charlotte Hornets on Monday Night (Jan. 22). In the postgame press conference, Minnesota Timberwolves coach Chris Finch didn’t care about the 62 points, pointing out an “absolutely disgusting performance of defense and immature basketball.”

According to ESPN, Finch believes the Wolves stopped making the right play to feed the ball to Towns, who had a great start. Towns finished 21-for-35 from the floor and 10-for-15 from three but went cold in the fourth quarter with a 2-for-10 showing that landed him on the bench.

“I mean there’s lots of times when, just because you’ve scored two or three or four points in a row, or baskets in a row … you know obviously we’re going to try to feed a hot hand, look for a hot hand, but at some point we got to get back to making the right play, we got to get back to doing the right things,” Finch said.

Towns added, “Having a night like that on a loss doesn’t feel very good or historic.”

Woods showed off the gifts on social media – name a new set of chains and a diamond-encrusted ring. Designed by Tim Da Jeweler, the ring features 15.4 cts of VVS1/VVS2 diamonds, while the pendant is 14K rose gold with 37.5 cts of VVS1/VVS2 diamonds. Both are shaped like the number 32, a nod to Woods’ jersey for the Timberwolves.

Woods and Towns first linked up in 2020 and have expressed how happy they are together on multiple occasions. “We love gift giving and … What is it? The love language? The love language is quality time. We love everything. He does so much for me. I do what I can for him. I want to say it’s a lot. So when it’s time to show that appreciation, we like to go all out,” Woods told PEOPLE in a recent interview.

The most recent episode of The Kardashians also saw Tristan Thompson mention her as he apologized to Kylie Jenner about his past infidelities. “I feel — it really bothers me because it’s like, we’ve always had such a dope relationship, and then I feel like everyone got affected differently, you know? But I think you were affected the most. By a situation with losing a sister basically, you know. Like, you lost Jordyn, who’s a big part of your life. The fact that I came with my poor decisions and being a f-cking idiot and just being young and stupid, I just want to say I’m sorry again for that. Just because life is so short, and it sucks because even though we made our mistakes, sometimes it’s hard to come back from situations like that,” Thompson said.

In respond, Jenner used the moment to hold Thompson accountable. “You do some dumb a– sh-t. Why Tristan? Why? I think you have such a good heart and good energy and, like, to know you is to love you… [so] it is confusing because some of the sh-t you do is f-cking crazy,” Jenner shot back. Furthermore, it’s unclear if Thompson also plans to apologize to Khloe in a later episode as he continues his redemption tour on the show.

Appearing on Patrick Beverley’s podcast, Towns claimed that once his career is over, people will say that he “changed the game.”
