Jay-Z Gives Doja Cat Her Flowers, Details “God Did” Writing Process

It’s no secret that Doja Cat’s undergone something of a transformation in recent months, impressing fans with her latest album Scarlet, and earning the praise of plenty of her high-profile peers. She recently teamed up with Jeymes Samuel, Kodak Black, and Adekunle Gold on the track “Jeezu” for the soundtrack of The Book Of Clarence. Aside from the aforementioned artists, other performers like Lil Wayne, Kid Cudi, Jorja Smith, and more also make appearances on the star-studded soundtrack. Jay-Z even hopped on a 9-minute-long song with Jeymes Samuel and D’Angelo, “I Want You Forever.”

During a recent Twitter Spaces chat Jay-Z gave Doja Cat a shoutout for her contribution. “Even with Doja [Cat] on [the soundtrack],” he began. “Her performance on [‘Jeezu’] was unlike anything that I’ve heard from her. The way she attacks that music it’s like, ‘Wow, this is a different Doja.’ And it may not be different for her. I don’t know. That’s a question for her. It may not have felt different for her, but as a listener, as someone who has consumed her music and loves what she does, I was like, ‘Man, this feels new for her.’ This feels like a new space.”

Jay-Z Recalls Writing His Lengthy “God Did” Verse

Clearly, receiving praise from the Roc Nation founder is no small feat. He’s had his own fair share of successes throughout his career, to say the least. One that doesn’t go unnoticed is his four-minute verse on “God Did.” During the same conversation, he reflected on his writing process, revealing that he didn’t expect the verse to be so long.

“You’ve just got to obey your cr*zy,” he said earlier this week. “It’s really the song dictates the vibe of what’s going on. I didn’t start out to do ‘God Did’ as a four-minute verse, that’s not how it happened…It just kept going and kept unfolding.” What do you think of Jay-Z praising Doja Cat for her verse on “Jeezu” from the Book Of Clarence soundtrack? Dee-1 Champions Meek Mill After “Gangsta” Tweet About Street Life’s Limitations

Dee-1 recently praised Meek Mill for a recent tweet that he put out concerning what being a “gangsta” really is. “Being gangsta will get you hurt put in jail or killed ……” the Philly rapper posted on the social media platform on Tuesday (January 2). “Being smart will get you out of poverty and your family and friends living better. It’s no comparison, being smart is the only solid way out the trenches… everything else is wide range life risk just to survive!” Moreover, the Christian MC posted an Instagram video reacting to this on his page. “Big Salute to @meekmill,” he captioned. “Some haters and some blogs don’t wanna see love and support, but that’s exactly what this is. Stating Big Facts that will have a domino effect. Let’s be smart and we can all win! Ya digggg. A Shift Is Happening!!! #Dee1 #MeekMill #HipHopCulture #Support #MissionVision.”

“Yeah, salute to Meek Mill for spitting these facts!” Dee-1 said in the clip in question. “And this gon’ have a domino effect in a good way, you heard me? Aye, this shift is happening right now, make sure y’all not late to it, man. And I know this ain’t that sexy for the blogs. They gon’ be like, ‘Wait, Dee-1 supporting what Meek say?’ Yes, absolutely! This man spitting facts! And if you grew up in the streets, then you know that he’s just making it real black and white. ‘Being gangsta will get you hurt, put in jail, or killed.’ Period! ‘Being smart will get you out of poverty, and your family and friends living better.’ Period!

“That’s important for people to just know it’s that simple,” Dee-1 continued. “‘It’s no comparison. Being smart is the only solid way out the trenches. Everything else is wide range life risk just to survive.’ Come on, man, that’s facts, and this shift is happening right now, man. I love this, I support this, Meek. Big love, and everybody just need to know this, man. It might be common sense to one person to see this. But there’s a lot of people that’s at that crossroads each and every day. Man, be smart. Let’s be smart, and let’s win.”

For those unaware, the New Orleans native previously called Meek and other MCs out for their glorification of violence and street life in their lyrics. Other rappers chimed in with their takes in addition to a clap-back of his own, and it prompted a lot of debate. Maybe Dee’s just compensating for this rift, but it’s still heartening to see them come together on these issues. Trina Defends Beyonce Praise, Insists She’s The “Queen Of Rap”

Earlier this week, a snippet from Trina’s interview with HipHopDX started to make its rounds, sparking quite a bit of controversy. In the clip, she gives Beyonce a shoutout for her contributions to female rap. Her claims certainly managed to raise some eyebrows, but regardless, she stands by what she said.

“Yeah,Beyoncé cuz she’s like the number one female rapper when she does rap,” Trina told the outlet. “It’s just one of those things like of course this is the Queen’s Beyoncé but when you hear her do a song and it’s rapping involved, it’s like, ‘Oh my God,’ like it just, it’s more inspiration and, um, I don’t know it’s just a good thing man.” Now, after receiving plenty of backlash for her comments, Trina has taken to Instagram to respond.

“For the dusty crusty funky b***hes in the bacccckkkk [loudly speaking emoji] Beyoncé is the queen of rap (when she raps) and ALL other genres of music,” a post on her Instagram Story reads. “Now stay mad goofy’s I said what I said and NANN b***h gone check me. [middle finger emoji] Carry on [hot face emoji].” She didn’t stop there, however. The Miami native went on to share a grid post of Beyonce herself, accompanied by a passionate caption.

“I rlly don’t give a rats a** how anybody feel, I said what I said .. that’s the Queen Bey and I’m gonna STAN,” she wrote. “Beyonce is the Queen of rap (when she raps) and ALL genres of music when it comes to me ‼ go argue with the IRS or somebody else idc.” What do you think of Trina doubling down on her claims about Beyonce? Andrew Tate Praises Dr. Umar For Being “Ride Or Die” For The Black Community

Andrew Tate has offered praise to fellow controversial content creator Dr. Umar. “I dont care if you agree with him or not Dr Umar is ride or die for his people and I respect that,” Tate wrote on X. His statement came after Umar went viral for a scathing attack on Vanessa Bryant, the widow of Kobe Bryant. Umar accused Bryant of “not doing sh-t” to “uplift the Black community”. This was specifically in regard to the ways that she has spent her late husband’s money in recent years. Umar pointed to a “sports initiative” that Bryant recently started with “six predominantly white colleges”. Umar’s anger came as a result of Bryant not “choosing a single HBCU”. Umar was referring to the Mamba & Mambacita Sports Foundation. In September, the foundation announced partnerships with UConn, USC, Kentucky, Oregon, Duke, and LSU.

However, Umar was largely shouted down by the Joe Budden crew. One contributor argued that “there are plenty of angry Black wives who got a Black man’s money and didn’t do sh-t for the Black community”. As with many of Umar’s moments, it felt more like he was talking to be heard than actually having something to say.

Andrew Tate Says He “Misses America”

Meanwhile, Tate recently said he “misses America”, according to an early December tweet from the influencer. Tate hasn’t lived in the States since 2017, when he and his brother relocated to Romania. Tate has long stated that he made the move due to the much more lenient enforcement of laws in the Eastern European nation. However, that did not stop Romanian officials from throwing the book at the Tate brothers over alleged rape and human trafficking.

However, it’s not the first blunt, four-word tweet that Tate has spontaneously made recently. Tate simply wrote “I am a Billionaire” on X on November 23. It’s a bold claim from a man who was recently valued at a net worth of around £10 million. That figure came from the Romanian officials as part of an evaluation of Tate’s assets. This was conducted as part of his ongoing trial for rape, human trafficking, and organized crime. The lavish lifestyle portrayed by Tate over the years appears to be almost entirely fabricated. Even Tate’s own lawyers admitted that the former kickboxing world champion “plays a character online”.

Trina Praises Lil Wayne & Missy Elliott As “Greats”

Trina spoke highly of both Lil Wayne and Missy Elliott while speaking with HipHopDx at One Music Fest in Atlanta for a recently published interview. Despite their engagement falling through in the 2000s, Trina still appreciates Wayne and described him to the outlet as one of the “greats.” As for Missy Elliott, she explained that she’s among the “top tier” of female artists.

“Just way when he first started, Wayne was always a different kind of artist,” Trina said. “He was very passionate and very consistent. He had a different sound, different voice from any other artist – any other male rapper in the game. His hunger just showed, just from a very young age. I just kind of watched him grow into Lil Wayne — from baby Wayne to The Fireman to growing and growing. And that was just a good thing because he’s a great person and a great artist. He’s one of the greats.”

As who who else deserves their flowers, Trina went with Missy Elliott. “I’ma always shout out to Missy Elliott because she’s the top tier of us, of the females — our generation,” she said. “I mean, besides just being a rapper, being an artist, a writer, a producer – she’s written for some of the biggest stars in the world like Whitney Houston, Beyoncé, Mary J. Blige, Mariah Carey, the list goes on. And it’s just one of those things being a woman coming up in that time and being a super powerful woman amongst just being an artist and a pioneer. It speaks for itself. You can just watch everything she do, whether it’s music, production or concerts/shows, whatever. It’s gonna be phenomenal.”

Killer Mike Believes He Has The Rap Album Of The Year

Killer Mike has had too amazing of a career for preoccupations of humility, and he knows how special his art is. Moreover, he recently spoke to HipHopDX at the ONE Music Fest about his new album MICHAEL and about how it’s the rap album of the year. Of course, the Grammys certainly agree to some extent, as they nominated the project for the Best Rap Album category alongside Her Loss, UTOPIA, King’s Disease 3, and HEROES & VILLAINS. However, the Dungeon Family MC saw past the competition and identified how his album is thematically unlike much of what we see in the genre today. That distinction is indicative of its introspection, quality of craft, and richness of perspective that he does a great job of conveying.

“If you’re a Black man and you heard MICHAEL, you’ve heard your own experience in this life,” Killer Mike expressed on Saturday (December 23). “It’s songs on there that talk about the love and solidarity of women, from your mother to your aunts to your wife. It’s songs on there that, for the first time, celebrate the junkie, and not the person that has them addicted.

MICHAEL Is The Rap Album Of The Year, Killer Mike Defends

Rap Album of the Year discussion starts at around the 5-minute mark.

“I don’t say that lightly, when I say, ‘album of the year,’” Killer Mike continued. “This album pushed the emotions of masculinity past where rap had prior. It acknowledges women– Black women– that evolved me in a different way. It acknowledges addiction in a radically different way. So when I say that, I don’t say that lightly. And I don’t say that to play. Because if I didn’t, I wouldn’t say it. If you’re a Black man, a working class man, or the women who love them, you should lay your ears on [MICHAEL].”

Mike Thanks HipHopDX

In addition, the Run The Jewels member also thanked HipHopDX for crowning the LP the Album of the Year. More than just boast about the project’s quality, it’s heartening to see him celebrate it with others as he should, and to see others celebrate his work in kind. Furthermore, with over twenty years in the game, Mike deserves nothing less. For more news and the latest updates on Killer Mike, check back in with HNHH.

Kanye West’s New Album Gets DeRay Davis’ Praise Almost 20 Years After Their Collabs

While the fate of Kanye West and Ty Dolla $ign’s new collab album Vultures is unclear, we’ve at least heard what they want to include on it. Moreover, they recently hosted a listening party in Miami for it that was unsurprisingly late, star-studded, controversial, and showed great potential in some tracks… but without a lot of polish. Still, none of these are issues for Ye’s former collaborator, actor and comedian DeRay Davis. TMZ recently caught up with him at the LAX airport, and they asked him what he thought of the show, which he was returning from.

Furthermore, Davis remarked that Kanye West and Ty Dolla $ign came through with a great project– at least, what they played during this latest “rave.” He said that his experience wasn’t like what many folks saw online, as he was much closer than many videos of it. For example, the actor posited that the black KKK hood that the Chicago rapper wore looked more like an executioner’s mask than anything else. If you thought that was the only thing he would say on his antics… then we have some bad news for you.

DeRay Davis Speaks On Kanye West’s Vultures: Watch

In addition, DeRay Davis expressed his belief that folks are making too big of a deal about Kanye West’s “Jewish b***h” bar on the album’s title track. According to him, the other songs and guest performances are too good to focus on just one bad line. Davis also identified Vultures as somewhere between “the old Kanye” with some 808s & Heartbreak thrown in there, and had heavy praise for Kodak Black, Ty Dolla $ign, and North West’s guest verses– particularly North’s surprise addition.

For those unaware, Davis worked with Kanye in the past as the voice on many of his skits on The College Dropout and Late Registration. His impression of the Chi’s own Bernie Mac and his leadership of Broke Phi Broke are among many iconic moments on these classic records. As such, this support is by no means surprising, but also ironic considering that said moments are so far removed from this album’s identity… and quality. Buffalo, New York rapper Conway the Machine has been on a torrent run. He continues to feed fans with tons of music, dropping single after single. In addition, he has three projects out right now, with a handful more on the way soon. With that in mind, it is probably hard for Conway to hear a lot of the new music that has been coming out this year. Drake rarely misses when it is a time-related title and Conway agrees. In the video clip above, he talks about the track in a very positive light. He said things like “that s*** was fire,” and even gave a shout-out to the producer, Conductor Williams. He had a huge hand in the beat crafting for the album. Conductor, of course, has tons of credits on Conway songs as well. Conway also mentioned how Drake might have taken some inspiration from him, but he does not mind one bit. He has tons of respect for him, and that is a wonderful thing to hear.

Moreover, the two podcasters have voiced their support for him for a long time now, and continue to make strides to improve his conditions and others’. However, Gillie Da Kid in particular recently caught some up-to-debate flack for praising the rapper for not snitching in his ordeal. While this is a pivotal street code with a lot of influence and weight in hip-hop, some felt that this was giving him too much credit. After all, Pooh’s protecting other criminals, some expressed in the replies of the tweet below.
