Polo G Was Reportedly Arrested On Kidnapping, Robbery, And Assault With A Deadly Weapon Charges

Polo G‘s Los Angeles home was raided by police on Wednesday (August 23) for a search in connection to a robbery. The rapper’s lawyer Bradford Cohen later shared a statement saying the search was only conducted to “verify” that Polo G isn’t a convicted felon. Now, though, the story continues.

XXL reported today (August 24) that last night, Polo G and his brother, rapper Trench Baby, were arrested for kidnapping, robbery, and assault charges. He was taken into custody and booked by the Burbank, California Police Department.

A spokesperson for the Burbank Police Department told the publication, “Last night, Mr. Taurus Bartlett (Polo G) and his brother, Mr. Taurean Bartlett (Trench Baby), were arrested and booked on kidnapping, robbery, and assault with a deadly weapon charges. The charges stem from a report filed in April of this year in which Taurus and Taurean Bartlett were listed as suspects.”

The statement continued, “Once Mr. Taurus and Taurean Bartlett were released from LAPD’s custody on unrelated charges, Burbank PD investigators were standing by to take them into custody on the Burbank case. They were taken into custody without incident and have since been released on $100,000 bail. Formal charges are pending review by the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.”

Polo G’s Lawyer Has Issued A Statement After The Rapper’s Home Was Raided By Police

On Wednesday (August 23), it was reported that police raided Polo G’s Los Angeles home. The rapper, who announced his fourth album Hood Poet just last week, was ordered out of his house and handcuffed along with others while officers conducted a search.

More information about the situation is coming out. Polo G’s lawyer Bradford Cohen issued a statement with XXL, explaining the raid transpired in order to “verify” that Polo G isn’t a convicted felon.

“The incident surrounded someone staying in Polo’s home and not Polo directly,” Cohen said. “The officers have detained Polo to ‘verify’ that he is not a convicted felon, as they assert a firearm was found in the home. It is widely known that Polo is not a convicted felon and never was a convicted felon.”

“I personally got all his charges in Miami dismissed when he was in our opinion wrongfully arrested and charged,” he continued. “They have refused to allow us access to our client which is also an illegal and unethical practice and someone will have to answer for these new wrongful actions.”

A rep for Polo G also told the outlet, “We are hopeful the LAPD will handle this matter with tact and transparency.”

Authorities reportedly released Polo G and his brother from prison on bond, and got felony charges following a Wednesday (August 23) police raid on the Chicago rapper’s home. Moreover, his mother also clarified that they released his sister as well, and she announced that Polo and his sibling Taurean came home. Both had a $100,000 bail, left jail on Thursday (August 24), and have upcoming court dates on September 12 and 13, respectively. However, after officials finished the raid, police arrested them on Wednesday for several felonies, according to TMZ Hip Hop. These include kidnapping, assault with a deadly weapon, and robbery, and they bonded out the following day. In addition, on Wednesday, the Hall Of Fame MC’s lawyer Bradford Cohen spoke to XXL about these developments.

Polo G’s Mother Announces His & His Brother’s Release From Prison

Furthermore, Cohen referred to an earlier 2021 incident with this statement. Authorities arrested Polo G in Miami and faced charges of “battery on a police officer, threatening a public servant, resisting an officer with violence, resisting an officer without violence, and criminal mischief.” Regarding the robbery charges, it seems authorities were concerned that he was harboring a fugitive, and other reports suggested that the robbery fugitive in question was Taurean. “Polo, Leilani, and Baby are detained,” his mother had written on social media. “An active investigation is taking place… To my knowledge, Polo is not the object / focus of the investigation. I am hopeful that the LAPD will handle this matter with tact and transparency. I will update you all as time permits.”

Polo’s Sister Speaks Out After Prison Release

Meanwhile, this threw a wrench into the 24-year-old’s release rollout, although more clicks can’t hurt. His upcoming album Hood Poet may be his last, and it’s unclear if this legal case will impact it significantly. Polo G was handcuffed outside his Los Angeles-area home as offers executed a search warrant. During the warrant’s execution, Polo G and others inside the home were ordered out of the house individually.

According to TMZ, the warrant was in connection to a robbery, leading to four people being arrested. Reps for Polo G state he was not the subject of the investigation. “We are hopeful the LAPD will handle this matter with tact and transparency,” a rep said.

An additional update states Polo G was detained in case he harbored a fugitive. That said person is Polo G’s bother, Tauren, known as Trench Baby.

“Polo is being held to under the guise that the police department needs to double check that he is not a convicted felon as there was a purported firearm found in the home,” Polo G’s attorney Bradford Cohen said. “He is not and never was a convicted felon. Any precious charges he had I got dismissed and it’s all public record. They are also denying myself and my California law partner Zoey Aron access to him while he is being illegally detained.”

A week ago, Polo G announced his fourth album, Hood Poet. At the moment, though, he’s got something else to deal with: TMZ reports that Los Angeles police raided Polo’s home today (August 23).

The publication has video and photos of the situation and notes that multiple vehicles and officers from the Los Angeles Police Department were at the rapper’s San Fernando Valley mansion (that he bought for $5 million in 2021). They were there carrying out a search warrant and they ordered multiple people (including Polo) out of the house and handcuffed them while they conducted their search.

Law enforcement sources reportedly told TMZ that the warrant was in connection to a robbery and that four suspects have been taken into custody, but have not yet been booked. A Polo G representative told the publication that the rapper has been detained as part of an active investigation, but that he is not the focus of the investigation. TMZ was reportedly told that “Polo will update his fans and supporters when the time is right.”

Hood Poet, Polo G’s first album since his No. 1 LP Hall Of Fame, is set for release on September 15. A few days after announcing the project, the rapper shared a video for “Barely Holdin’ On.”

However, ahead of the upcoming release of his new album, Hood Poet, the 24-year-old hinted to fans that he might be ready to wrap things up. Moreover, he took to Twitter to express why he could retire after this project, and to thank fans who stood by him throughout his career. “Honestly, after my HOOD POET album I’m considering retiring from music. So I appreciate everybody ridin for me 10 fold,” he remarked. “This rap s**t got so watered down it ain’t no fun in it no more.”

Of course, this is sad news for his fans, but also just an idea and a possible option that he’s weighing alongside many others. After all, retirement is difficult even for those who want it. It wouldn’t be surprising at all if the Chicago MC continues to release singles, features, and the like, as well as promo opportunities, touring, and many more things that go into being an artist. With these concerns in mind, though, all we can hope for is that he’s able to choose the path he wants and is best for him, unencumbered by external circumstances or opinions.

Polo G Suggests He Might Hang Up The Mic After Hood Poet

Furthermore, this adds even more weight to his upcoming album, or it’s just a way to get more hyped buzzed around it (both can be true). Hood Poet (which stands for “He Overcame Obstacles During Pain Or Emotional Trauma”) is his potential swan song, and follows up a long wait from his last project, 2021’s Hall Of Fame. Hopefully it’s a solid and compelling set of tracks regardless of Polo G’s future. With the lead single “Barely Holdin’ On,” fans of the “No Time Wasted” spitter have a solid indication of the greatness to expect.

Meanwhile, Polo already cemented himself as a key part of not just the Chicago drill scene, but also the contemporary hip-hop game as a whole. If he actually does retire, it will be interesting to see how his path within the genre and outside of it continues. Maybe he eschews the public limelight altogether and focuses more on his personal life. Either way, all we can do is appreciate what he gave us already and look forward to what’s on the way, because you never know if it could be his last. Polo G Shows Love To Survivors Of Struggle In His New Video, ‘Barely Holdin’ On’

Polo G is back, and this time, he’s putting his pain on display, while sending love to those who are hurting. On his new single, “Barely Holdin’ On,” Polo delivers a tear-jerking ballad over an emotional piano instrumental, as he sings of his hopes to live long and make an impact while he’s still with us.

“Barely holdin’ on / this life gets scary as it goes on / Burdens while we carry on / I ain’t perfect, spare me if I’m wrong / Hope my secrets get buried when I’m gone / starin’ at the writin’ on these headstones / They keep on tryna tear me, but I’m strong / that’s what you wanted to tell me all along,” he sings on the song’s chorus.

“Barely Holdin’ On” comes from Polo’s upcoming album, Hood Poet, which is set to arrive this fall. The accompanying visual was directed by Polo’s frequent collaborator, Araad, and sees Polo visiting fans who have been in dark places.
