Polish Karaoke Competition Destroyed Online Over Kendrick Lamar Blackface Performance

Kendrick Lamar is one of the biggest artists in the entire world. Overall, he is beloved by many people, and he continues to produce some huge hits. Consequently, there are a lot of people out there who look up to him and quite frankly, would like to be him. This leads to people wanting to imitate him. As the saying goes, imitation is the greatest form of flattery. However, when it comes to what this Polish television show did recently, that turn of phrase is certainly not the case.

There is a Polish Karaoke competition called Your Face Sounds Familiar. The concept is very simple. Celebrities from the country dress up as famous musicians and perform their songs. Subsequently, the winner gets a bunch of money that they can then donate to charity. In a recent episode, Kuba Szmajkowski decided to get into full blackface in order to perform as Kendrick Lamar. Below, you can see him perform the track “HUMBLE,” which ultimately helped him win the episode.

This Man Tries To Imitate Kendrick Lamar

Overall, this performance led to a lot of backlash on social media. Fans were absolutely confused at why the TV show and its contestant would think this is okay. In the United States, no one would ever think of doing blackface in this way. However, in Europe, these types of transgressions do not carry the same stigma. The same can be said of the n-word, as the contestant also rapped the word while performing.

Social Media Reacts

Down below, you can see all sorts of reactions from Twitter. It was quite the backlash, and the Polish TV show even deleted the clip from Twitter. Although, @wowthatshiphop was able to preserve the clip on his page. This will continue to be a huge controversy for the show, and it remains to be seen how they will handle it, moving forward. Let us know what you think of all this, in the comments section below. Additionally, stay tuned to HNHH for more news from around the music world.

Lil Yachty Performs “Poland” 6x In A Row, Presented w/ Gold Plaque In Polish Sales

Lil Yachty’s “Poland” went completely viral last year after Cardi B posted a video of herself twerking to the record… only she tweaked the lyrics. Instead of the chorus where Lil Yachty repeats, “I took the Wock’ to Poland,” Cardi B’s version was: “I took the WAP to Poland.”

Most recently, the Atlanta rapper traveled to Poland for the first time, playing his international hit for fans at Open’er Festival for the first time. But he didn’t just deliver one rendition of the song, he played it six times in a row!

Footage of the insane performance was shared by Lil Boat to his nearly 11 million followers on Instagram, with the caption “LOVE 4 LYFE POLAND.” What’s hilarious is it seems Yachty gave that performance his all, as by the fifth or sixth round, his pants were nearly down to his ankles as his voice began to disappear.

In addition to the live show,  Lil Yachty was presented with the award for “Poland,” which won best US Single of The Year at the European hip-hop awards called Popkillery. Ironically, Popkillery is actually based exactly in Poland, with over 600K people partaking in the voting. They’re considered the biggest ceremony in Polish Hip-Hop and one of Europe’s largest Hip-Hop award ceremonies.

Along with this award, Yachty was presented with the Gold Plaque for Polish sales of “Poland.”

In addition to Cardi B supporting the record, “Poland” has gotten love from Drake, Wiz Khalifa, and Offset.

Lil Yachty Takes The Wock To “Poland” Six Times… In Poland

Lil Yachty’s “Poland” is probably the biggest hit he’s had in a while, coming right before his artistic evolution on Let’s Start Here. With a buzzing rage beat from none other than F1LTHY and the most woozy vocals rap has heard in a while, it’s no wonder the track became a viral sensation. Still, it was also quite interesting to see just how much success it found before Yachty switched lanes completely. While his excursions and deep immersion into the worlds of psychedelic rock, indie pop, synth-based jams, and alternative music proved excellent, “Poland” was a lucky and unorthodox strike right before his leap. With other singles coming after it like “Strike (Holster)” seeing him return to a rap bag, the style is clearly not dead.

Also, if you have a chance to perform a hit repeatedly at a show, that just proves its enduring status. Moreover, Lil Yachty recently went to Poland and performed the song six times in a row for the adoring crowd before him. Of course, you might think that it would get old after a while, but the crowd actually got louder and rowdier on some takes after the first one. What’s more is that the Atlanta MC himself also seemed to intensify each performance and get more hyped as he went on. However, the crowd sung the last one acapella, a nice send-off to thank fans in a way.

Regardless of its success, the 25-year-old had no idea it would blow up like that in the first place. Even though the song got him an invite to the country from the Polish Prime Minister, he felt odd that it hit so hard while he entered a new era. “I would’ve never dropped ‘Poland’- ever- because I wanted to pivot myself into this,” Lil Yachty told Zane Lowe. “So I was really irritated when it dropped, but I’m so grateful it did. Like I said, I really don’t know what I do next. I don’t know if I’ma do this again or do more rap.”

Meanwhile, he explained the inspiration behind the song to popular YouTube reactors Zias and B. Lou. “I’ma tell y’all the truth,” he remarked. “I was in the studio, right, working on my new album, and I was actually just trolling. My mans was just drinking a Poland Springs water bottle. I mean obviously I had some wock, but he had a Poland Springs water bottle. I was like, ‘Damn.’ And the song was a joke! I was just trolling. It leaked, and that’s why I was like, technically it’s not finished. It’s just a verse. I never finished the song, but it went cr*zy. So I was like, ‘S**t, I might as well put it out.’” We still don’t know if he has taken the wock to Poland, but playing it six times in a row probably counts. Latto In Europe

In the video clip above, you can actually see how one fan wanted Latto to sign his butt. While some may be repulsed by such a suggestion, the “Put It On Da Floor” rapper decided to go through with it. Lil Yachty Admits He Was “Irritated” By “Poland” Success

Lil Yachty’s latest project, Let’s Start Here ushered in a new era in his career. Since he emerged, he’s constantly faced criticism for emerging in the Soundcloud era. Some, like Joe Budden, felt as though he singlehandedly ruined hip-hop. In the past few years, the “Poland” rapper made it his mission to shake off the narrative that followed his name, which explains the huge leap he took with Let’s Start Here. The project felt more inspired by psychedelic rock rather than hip-hop. He accomplished what he set out to do on Let’s Start Here, earning praise from figures like Questlove.

The album came as a shock to many, especially since he didn’t drop a single beforehand. The only piece of music that could’ve indicated the direction of his next studio album was his contributions to Her Loss, and his viral single, “Poland.” The latter felt like a refined approach to his warbly rap records and received praise across the board. Not only from TikTok but from music critics who’ve written him off over the years.

Lil Yachty Felt “Irritated” By The Success Of “Poland”

During a recent conversation with Zane Lowe, Lil Yachty explained why he didn’t necessarily appreciate the positive reception to his viral single. He admitted it was “irritating” to see fans gravitate towards that song since he recorded it on a whim while working on Let’s Start Here. “I would’ve never dropped ‘Poland’ — ever — because I wanted to pivot myself into this,” he explained during the recent interview on Apple Music.

However, he still felt grateful for the impact that it had. “So I was really irritated when it dropped, but I’m so grateful it did. Like I said, I really don’t know what I do next. I don’t know if I’ma do this again or do more rap,” he explained. With the release of Let’s Start Here, Lil Yachty basically has the freedom to pursue whatever he wants musically. However, it’s clear that he hasn’t lost his passion for rapping either. Check out the interview with Zane Lowe above and sound off with your thoughts in the comments.

Lil Yachty Was Intially ‘Irritated’ When ‘Poland’ Leaked, But Now He’s ‘Grateful’ It Did

Lil Yachty’s song “Poland” proved to be one of the biggest viral hits of 2022. Though it didn’t appear on his 2023 album Let’s Start Here, which features Yachty experimenting with more psychedelic sounds, he revealed “Poland” was made during downtime in the album’s studio sessions.

In an interview with Apple Music 1’s Zane Lowe, he said he was initially frustrated after the song leaked.

“That was irritating,” he said. “I was pissed because I made ‘Poland’ while making this album on a day when they were mixing sh*t in the other room and I was just bored with the homies, and I would’ve never dropped ‘Poland,’ ever, because I was trying to pivot myself into this. So I was really irritated when it dropped, but I’m so grateful it did. And like I said, I really don’t know what I do next. I don’t know if I’m going to do this again or do more rap sh*t… I’ll figure it out.”

Last month, Yachty announced he was assembling an all-woman band. Elsewhere in the interview with Lowe, he revealed his inspiration behind the idea.

“I just wanted to show how sick women can rap,” said Yachty. “I feel like… I was just in rehearsal yesterday. I just feel like women don’t get as much respect as men when it comes to the music industry. So I was like, ‘These songs are pretty badass, and I want to show women playing them.’ They didn’t make it, but I want to show they can do it, not better. So that was my vision.”

Lil Yachty Takes A Chance On New Album “Let’s Start Here”

Lil Yachty showcases his versatility more than ever on his latest project, Let’s Start Here.

In the last few months, the narrative surrounding Lil Yachty’s artistry has shifted exponentially. From the release of the viral single, “Poland” to his contributions on Drake and 21 Savage’s Her Loss, Yachty’s undoubtedly grown as an artist. However, even then, critics and fans considered him a part of the mumble rap pack.

Let’s Start Here is a leap in a new direction for Lil Yachty. His latest project veers away from rap entirely for a psychedelic rock-influenced effort. The project boasts 14 songs in total with an array of uncredited features. Teezo Touchdown, Baby K, Foushée, Justine Skye, and more contribute to Let’s Start Here. On the production side, Yachty claims credit on 12 out of the 14 songs. Additionally, SADPONY, Justin Raisen, and Patrick Wembley heavily contribute to the tracklist.

Last night, Lil Yachty hosted an album listening party in New Jersey with Drake and Offset in attendance. He explained that the ambitious sound was a result of people counting him out as an artist over the years.

“I think I created this just because I really wanted to be taken serious as an artist. Not just some Soundcloud rapper, not just some mumble rapper, not some guy that made one hit. You know, I wanted to be taken serious because music is like everything to me. I respect all walks of music. Not just rap and hip-hop but everything,” Lil Yachty said. “If we gon’ be honest, there’s just a lot of n***as started copying the swag. And I felt like, cool, well, if everyone can do this then that’s fine but I’m going to show you what y’all can’t do.”
