Ava DuVernay Parties With Taraji P. Henson, Samuel L. Jackson, David Oyelowo & More For “Origin” Film

While her latest film, Origin, encompasses a more somber tone, Ava DuVernay was all smiles as she celebrated the feature. Origin arrived a month ago, on December 8, but the film remains a hot topic among cinephiles. DuVernay’s illustrious filmography spans movies focusing on Black culture, community, racism, and injustice—and Origin isn’t for the weak.

Origin is based on Isabel Wilkerson’s bestseller Caste: The Origin of Our Discontents. The Pulitzer Prize winner released her much-talked-about book in 2020, which centers on her personal journey. Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor stars as Wilkerson in the biographical film that begins with the murder of Trayvon Martin in 2012. Likening racism to India’s caste system, DuVernay, through her lens and a cast of characters, weaves through cultural experiences from the Holocaust to the Slave Trade, and examines the links between Nazi Germany and American laws. Although the film may be on the heavier end of the spectrum, audiences praised DuVernay’s latest efforts.

Among the applause are celebrated actors and industry professionals who joined the filmmaker at the Sunset Tower Hotel in Hollywood, Calif., last night. Threads hosted the event and also celebrated Black actors who are contenders this award season. Guests included Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor, Samuel L. Jackson and his wife LaTayna Ricardson Jackson, The Color Purple‘s Colan Domingo, Danielle Brooks, and Taraji P. Henson; Insecure‘s Sarunas Jackson; American Fiction‘s Jeffrey Wright; David Oyelowo, Laz Alonso, Gabrielle Dennis, and legendary actor Glynn Turman, among others.

Darius Jackson Posts Baby Leodis After Seeking Keke Palmer Restraining Order

Darius Jackson and Keke Palmer began the year as a couple that fans were excited to hear more from as they navigated their journey into parenthood together. For the Chicago native, 2023 has helped her grow into the best, most confident version of herself, though we now know drama taking place with her baby daddy behind the scenes was holding her back from reaching even further greatness. The public found out about Jackon’s jealous tendencies when Palmer attended Usher’s Las Vegas residency and shared a romantic, theatrical moment with the R&B crooner.

Since then, the drama has only intensified, with cousin Keke filing a restraining order against Darius a few weeks ago. A judge granted her request after seeing evidence of the physical trainer putting his hands on his partner on numerous occasions. Interestingly, this week, Jackson hit back at his ex by accusing her of abuse in his restraining order filing, specifically noting instances of her choking and hitting him.

While waiting for his day in court with the 30-year-old, Jackson is keeping his growing following on Instagram up-to-date with his life. We also see the young father looking dapper in a suit, posing in the mirror, and proudly holding his little boy.

While Leodis’ father focuses on his mental health this holiday season, the young boy’s mother, Keke Palmer, has some concerns of her own she’s addressing on social media. Obviously, December 15 has come and gone, with no Lana in sight. This has left countless supporters disappointed, and they continue to beg the Missouri songstress to drop it. While it remains unclear when SZA plans to finally unveil Lana, she’s provided fans with a fun photo dump in the meantime. In her latest carousel, she’s seen posing in a bikini in a couple of flirty mirror selfies, flexing in some cozy airport attire, and more. “To crash out is to grow,” she captioned the post.

Plenty of fans are flooding SZA’s comments section with compliments, but others have taken the opportunity to demand the deluxe edition of SOS. So many fans have expressed outrage that she felt it was necessary to issue a disclaimer, reminding followers that she herself never claimed the project would be unveiled on December 15. “Don’t make me regret telling y’all ab sh*t lol,” she began in the comments section of her IG post. “I never said anything was coming out on the 15th . Y’all made that up n got mad at me RELAX . I love you .”

Beyonce was all legs beyond the silver shorts and completed the outfit with a matching beige fur coat. The year has been full of Beyonce stories, again due to her massive, global tour. However, one particularly sweet story came from comedian Lil Rel Howery. Howery got engaged in September to long-time girlfriend Dannella Lane. The venue he chose for this very special moment was Beyonce’s concert at SoFi Stadium on September 4. However, while speaking with TMZ, he revealed that things could have gone horribly wrong if not for the efforts of Beyonce herself. Turns out that Lil Rel was waiting for “Love On Top”. This was because Tina Knowles has suggested it is the perfect song to propose to. In fact, Knowles made the arrangements to capture the proposal on the jumbotron.

However, the song was later in the setlist than Lil Rel was expecting. And, as misfortune would have it, “Love on Top” would begin playing as soon as Lil Rel reached the men’s bathroom. After doing what he needed to do, he attempted to make it back to his seat, only to realize he had gotten lost. After several minutes, with “Love on Top” (4:27 in length) still miraculously playing, Lil Rel made it back to his seat. He found his confused girlfriend waiting along with a cameraman and a slightly annoyed Beyoncé, who had been stalling for time during the song.

Last month, Diddy’s ex Cassie filed a lawsuit accusing him of sexual assault, physical and emotional abuse, and more. They settled shortly after, however, three additional women have since come forward with similar allegations. He’s denied any wrongdoing, declaring that “enough is enough” following news of his fourth lawsuit. Though the first picture is a pretty typical pose the rest constitute a wild ride of Doja showing off her flexibility in blurry dressing room photos.

In her caption Doja Cat jokes about how things can get difficult for her. “im so unique and different and likable sometimes i get scared of how quirky i am cuz i just feel like its intimidating to people and i don’t want to make people uncomfortable cuz im extremely nice. ugh,” the caption reads. It’s the kind of joke that Doja is well versed in making and her fans seem on board. The post racked up well over 600k likes in just a few hours after it was initially posted.
